Ellen DeGeneres received backlash on social media after sitting next to former President George Bush at Sunday's Dallas Cowboys-Green Bay Packers. She now has responded to the criticism.

00:06Ellen DeGeneres is speaking out against backlash the host received for sitting next to

00:09former President George W. Bush at Sunday's NFL matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and

00:14Green Bay Packers. Social media was quick to criticize the host and her wife Portia

00:18DeRossi after pictures revealed the two socializing with the former president and

00:22former first lady Laura Bush at Cowboy Stadium. Many pointed out Bush's conservative

00:26politics that were anti-LGBTQ as well as the countless deaths from the wars under his

00:31administration and suggested the host was helping to rehabilitate his image.

00:35DeGeneres addressed the social media backlash on a taping of Ellen, which airs Tuesday,

00:39saying that she is in fact friends with George W. Bush. The host first explained the

00:44lead-up to the event, saying that she was invited to the game by Charlotte Jones,

00:47daughter of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, and noted that she was well aware that they would

00:51be surrounded by people with different views and beliefs.

00:55People were upset. They thought, why is a gay Hollywood liberal sitting next to a

00:59conservative Republican president?

01:01Ellen then pulled up one positive tweet that read,

01:03Ellen and George Bush together makes me have faith in America again.

01:06Ellen then echoed that same sentiment.

01:08Here's the thing, I'm friends with George Bush. In fact, I'm friends with a lot of

01:12people who don't share the same beliefs that I have. We're all different and I think

01:16that we've forgotten that that's okay that we're all different.
