Jenna Ortega will no longer star in 'Scream VII'. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter Ortega informed 'Scream' studio Spyglass months ago that she did not intend to return. 00:19Sources insist that Ortega's departure has nothing to do with Barrera's firing.
00:23Barrera has made dozens of posts about the war in recent weeks.
00:26She wrote in one post on Instagram Stories,
00:28Gaza is currently being treated like a concentration camp.
00:32Cornering everyone together with nowhere to go, no electricity, no water,
00:36people have learned nothing from our histories.
00:38And just like our histories, people are still silently watching it all happen.
00:42This is genocide and ethnic cleansing.
00:44A spokesperson for Spyglass, the company behind the Scream franchise,
00:47issued a statement that read,
00:48Spyglass's stance is unequivocally clear.
00:51We have zero tolerance for anti-Semitism or the incitement of hate in any form,
00:55including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion,
00:59or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.
01:03THR has reached out to a rep for Barrera.
01:05The actress starred as Sam Carpenter in the 2022 feature Scream,
01:08which helped revitalize the franchise and earned $137.7 million globally.
01:14She also starred in Scream 6, which was released in March of this year and made $168.9 million.
01:20Filmmaker Christopher Landon is set to direct Scream 7.
01:23Following the news of Barrera's firing on Tuesday, Landon wrote on social media,
01:27This is my statement, with a heartbreak emoji.
01:29Everything sucks. Stop yelling.
01:31This was not my decision to make.
01:32He later deleted the post.
01:34Earlier on Tuesday, news broke that Susan Sarandon had been dropped by talent agency UTA
01:38following comments at a pro-Palestinian rally in New York City on November 17th.
