Transcript
00:01Tony-winning singer and actor Billy Porter has been breaking down barriers for
00:04gender-fluid style on the red carpet. The post star arrived on the carpet for the season
00:09two premiere of the FX show wearing a black and white matador-inspired ensemble
00:13by Filipino fashion designer and architect Francis Liberon. The bullfighter-inspired
00:18design took over two and a half months to make. The look consisted of a heavily beaded
00:22jacket worn over a white shirt and black trousers and topped off with a black satin
00:26skirt with a dramatic ruffle train. He accessorized the ensemble with a matching
00:30beaded choker, boots and a hat. Porter's stylist, Sam Rattel, also broke down the look
00:35for The Hollywood Reporter, saying that they felt the bullfighter ensemble was
00:38symbolic of fighting off bullies. Rattel says,
00:41"...I wanted to depict his strength and how far he's come. At the same time, I wanted to
00:45make sure it was art, because he's always telling me I want to look like wearable art."
00:49The stylist also spoke about the importance of showcasing gender-fluid style, saying,
00:53"...it's all about changing perception. We want to keep challenging the notion of what it means
00:57to dress like a man or a woman. Women have been wearing pants for decades, but you put a
01:02dude in a skirt and it's like the world falls apart. We want to keep expressing that it's
01:05okay to literally wear whatever you want." But this isn't the first time Billy has been
01:09a trailblazer for fashion. Back at the Mac Gala, he stepped out in a caped Egyptian
01:13inspired look by the blondes, accessorized with wings and a matching headdress, and dipped
01:18head-to-toe with sequins and crystals. And at the Golden Globes, the star wore an embellished
01:23caped couture suit with fuchsia lining by New York designer Randy Ra.
