00:00Previously on Seven Little Jostys.
00:02There we go! He went through the hole!
00:05We're having a fall gathering with friends and family.
00:07Go!
00:09It is nice having everybody together to, like, catch up, eat food, and just hang out.
00:14Do you know if Anna's showing up?
00:16We still haven't heard from her.
00:17Anna has not wanted to do anything with the family.
00:20I haven't heard nothing from her.
00:22So...
00:24Tonight, I am having dinner with Alex and Emma.
00:28What's the deal?
00:29Like, why haven't you been around, like, us and the family?
00:31Y'all have a phone.
00:32Y'all can text me.
00:32Y'all can talk to me.
00:34We're mad at you for the things you haven't been doing.
00:37To end this conversation, I'll come around.
00:40Trying to end the conversation.
00:41Because when we're going in circles as a family, it doesn't end good.
00:44Why is, like, the problem between you, mom, and dad affecting all of us?
00:49Today, we are going to show Elizabeth and Bryce the plot of land that we purchased in our neighborhood.
00:55You and Bryce can build on and be close to both sets of grandparents.
01:01The biggest advantage of taking the land is the fact that we would be saving money.
01:05Our cons are pretty much we're simply staying in the same neighborhood as our parents.
01:11Is this lot something that you guys would want to build on and live for the next 15, 20 years?
01:17If y'all want to be in the same neighborhood with your mom and dad, Bryce, and Amber and I,
01:34it would be convenient for you guys and for Layton.
01:38My parents surprised us with purchasing a lot of land in the same neighborhood as both of our parents
01:45for the possibility of Bryce and I to build our home on it.
01:49Even though Bryce and I are desperate to be in our own home,
01:53we don't necessarily imagine it being in the same neighborhood as both of our parents.
01:58Or if you guys don't want to do that,
02:00then it's something that dad and I can hold on to for a couple years and turn around and sell.
02:05Bryce and Elizabeth contemplating the decision on accepting the gift is...
02:11It's understandable.
02:12Understandable.
02:13My biggest thing is I wanted to stay here for schools.
02:15That's why we moved here for y'all's schools.
02:18Even though I am grateful for this piece of property that they wanted to gift us,
02:23I'm also a little bit on the downside to being in the same neighborhood.
02:27It's literally, we can walk to their house from here.
02:31It's got everything I want for Layton.
02:33School, family, safety.
02:35So this is ultimately where we have to simply just think about Layton
02:38when it comes to a decision like this.
02:41You know, my goal is to have her in a home by her second birthday.
02:44We know that this neighborhood is safe,
02:46and it would be a great place for Layton to be raised.
02:48I mean, I have everything off the list.
02:50So it's a done deal?
02:52So...
02:52I'm going ahead and saying, yeah.
02:58It was a tough decision, but ultimately, I think we made the right one.
03:05I appreciate it.
03:08Oh, I get the hug out or the backslap.
03:10Now that we have accepted this piece of land,
03:14now it's pretty much meeting with the builder,
03:16figuring out what kind of house plan we want,
03:18getting a good idea of how much that plan would cost,
03:20and making sure that we're financially ready for this,
03:23and ultimately just being happy with all of our decisions.
03:27Well, at least we got a short drive home.
03:29Hey, Em.
03:40Yes?
03:41Can you come here?
03:43I'm just packing up some last-minute things for Ohio.
03:47Yeah? You excited?
03:48Yeah, I'm looking forward to it.
03:49I always have a fun time up there.
03:52So right now, I'm packing up for a trip to Ohio,
03:55and I'm super excited to see Allie.
03:56Allie's parents are always surprised
03:59that I could pack this much stuff in just a carry-on.
04:02Is this all? How many days are you staying?
04:04Four.
04:05Oh, okay.
04:05Just a T-shirt for each day.
04:06I'm there, two pairs of pants,
04:08deodorant, underwear, I'm good.
04:09For a four-day trip, I packed four pairs of underwear
04:12just to be safe.
04:15I mean, I feel like that's what most people do, though.
04:16Four pairs or am I just an overpacker?
04:21If I was going on a trip for four days
04:24with underwear, amount,
04:26it would have to be probably five or six.
04:28Four to five pairs of underwear.
04:31Underwear has two sides.
04:32You only need two.
04:33I would pack probably four or five pairs of underwear.
04:37What if you fart and you accidentally
04:38that's one underwear down?
04:40It soaks through your pants.
04:42I haven't grabbed my pants in ages.
04:45My dad did it like three weeks ago.
04:47Allie excited?
04:51Yeah, she's excited to have me up there for a few days.
04:53I think we're going to go on a hayride,
04:55go out to lunch,
04:56and, of course,
04:57the main reason why I'm going there
04:59to help out their dad with harvesting crops this year.
05:01Oh.
05:02So I've been to Allie's farmer a few times,
05:04but this will be my first time
05:05helping out with the harvest.
05:07I've been interested in farming
05:08ever since I was a little kid.
05:09I just have a lot of respect for farmers
05:11because they put food on our tables,
05:13so I think it's cool that I'll have a girlfriend
05:15who's also into farming.
05:17Are you going to drive one of their...
05:18Do they have tractors?
05:19I'm probably just going to ride with Allie.
05:21No, I don't trust myself
05:22on the big tractor right now,
05:23so I'm going to let them teach me.
05:24Maybe next year I'll drive.
05:25Oh, my gosh.
05:27Alex, I mean, the kid has always,
05:30always loved tractors and farming,
05:33and it's really very fitting
05:34that this is how this has all worked out for Alex.
05:38I'll be helping them for a few days
05:39with harvesting.
05:41That's going to be fun.
05:42Yeah.
05:42It's kind of a long process,
05:44but I'm looking forward to seeing it in person
05:45for the first time.
05:47Yeah.
05:48Would you possibly, like,
05:49one day move up there with Allie?
05:51We've had this talk a few times,
05:53and she seems pretty set in stone
05:55on staying up there, so...
05:56You'll leave all of us?
05:58I'll still come and visit it, obviously,
05:59but her parents' rule is that
06:01we have to be married
06:01before we can move in together,
06:02so that's quite a long ways out.
06:05Out of Alex and Allie, Liz and Bryce,
06:08and Jonah and Ashley,
06:11the couple that will be engaged first
06:13will be Liz and Bryce.
06:14They got a jump start.
06:16Yeah, that's true.
06:17Yeah, but if Alex goes before me there,
06:20it's going to be a severe problem,
06:21and Ashley's going to be really pissed.
06:23I mean, I don't disagree with that.
06:25I agree.
06:26I at least want to get through college work,
06:29though, at college
06:29before I consider moving up there.
06:32We'll see.
06:35I can't believe it.
06:37Good Lord.
06:50It's always busy for us,
06:51and it's almost Halloween,
06:53and Alex is going to be heading up to Ohio,
06:56but before that,
06:57the family is going to be coming together
06:59to celebrate Poppy's heavenly birthday.
07:01Poppy is my father,
07:04and he passed away eight months ago.
07:06We have decided to do something special
07:08to celebrate his first heavenly birthday.
07:11Yeah.
07:11Don't say stop.
07:12Don't say stop.
07:13After Poppy passed away,
07:14we all decided that it would be
07:16a great way to remember Poppy
07:17by planting a tree in the backyard.
07:19Come on.
07:20Come on.
07:20There you go.
07:21A little bit more.
07:22Please, Lord.
07:22Come on, Poppy.
07:23Come on.
07:23It's a dream, babe.
07:24It's great.
07:25Unfortunately,
07:26that is pretty much the last time
07:27we have all seen Anna.
07:28She has not been over to the house
07:30since that day.
07:32That looks pretty cool.
07:33Yeah.
07:33Yeah.
07:34We have picked out a rock,
07:36and we decided to etch out
07:38Poppy's name on this rock
07:40to kind of place at the tree
07:42as a marker.
07:44Are we ready to start
07:45taking the thing over?
07:47It's little, but it's heavy.
07:48Yeah.
07:49Yeah.
07:50It's very dwarf.
07:51This rock weighs 150 pounds.
07:53It's not, like, super heavy,
07:54but it's like picking us up.
07:56Everybody thinks we weigh 60, 70 pounds.
07:58No, I'm 140 pounds,
07:59145 right now.
08:02God.
08:03We're very small, compact,
08:04very dense,
08:04and we feel like we weigh 200.
08:06Liz, I would move out of the way.
08:09I'm here to guide Dad.
08:10Well, the worst they can do
08:12is land in the pool
08:12and be in the bottom of the pool forever.
08:13Oh, s***.
08:15Because nobody's getting this
08:16off the bottom of the pool.
08:16Why don't you go the other way?
08:18Yeah.
08:19What about if we get on the end
08:21and push?
08:22Because you're...
08:22I don't want you to break the steps.
08:24I don't want to break the toe.
08:25Those steps aren't going to break.
08:26Yeah, that's just the fun part.
08:30Oh, God.
08:35Should that hand truck handle
08:36would have flown up
08:37and hit me in the chin.
08:38Poppy would have heard
08:39some language today
08:40that he would not have approved of.
08:45He did it.
08:47All right, Emma,
08:47you take it down the hill.
08:49Oh, my gosh.
08:50I let her go that way
08:51where it's not so steep.
08:52I was going out there
08:54and I'm like,
08:54I'm not doing all this work.
08:55So I told Emma,
08:56hey, come over here
08:57and take the rock down the hill.
08:58I would try to go slow.
09:01So who thought of this idea?
09:05Why are we, like, crab walking?
09:07Squat legs!
09:09I told you,
09:10you don't have to push it.
09:11I'm not pushing it.
09:12I think the trolley
09:13was actually pulling Emma.
09:14Yeah.
09:15It was pulling me.
09:16It's not a truck.
09:18It's a hand truck.
09:19It's a hand truck, sorry.
09:20The hand truck was pulling Emma.
09:22I just put it right
09:22outside the edge right there.
09:23Yeah, that's what,
09:24right, like, right, right there.
09:26Yeah.
09:26Right here.
09:26Now you just got to
09:27spin it around.
09:28Spin it around.
09:28Somebody help me.
09:30I remember Poppy
09:31on his first heavenly birthday.
09:33It's not a sad time.
09:35I think, too,
09:35it's a time that it allows
09:37for everyone to really celebrate
09:41and devote time to talk about him,
09:43especially in that first few years
09:45of their passing
09:46is part of, you know,
09:49the healing process.
09:50Poppy was always someone, too,
09:51that helped others
09:54and that taught his family
09:55to always be there for your family.
09:58I definitely think
09:59there are times like this
10:01where my dad does miss
10:02having me, Jonah, Anna,
10:04Alex, and Emma all together,
10:06but I think my dad is learning
10:08that this is nothing
10:09that they can force on Anna.
10:11It's going to take her
10:12to want to make the change.
10:14We all say happy birthday, Poppy.
10:15Happy birthday, Poppy.
10:16And I'm sure any holidays,
10:18birthdays, any big celebrations
10:20is when he'll think about it,
10:22but at the end of the day,
10:23it's her decision.
10:24I made it to Ohio,
10:44and I cannot wait to see Allie.
10:48Hi.
10:49Hello.
10:49It's nice to see you again.
10:52It's good to see you.
10:54How were the flights?
10:55It was good.
10:56It was really short, as usual.
10:57That's good.
10:58Yeah.
10:58Do you want to come inside
10:59and we could just stuff away?
11:01Yeah.
11:01And get the weekend started?
11:06Tomorrow is the first day
11:07of me helping out the harvest.
11:08Part of me is a little bit nervous,
11:10so I'm going to see
11:11if I have any farmer potential.
11:13There you go.
11:13Stay on stick.
11:17What you waiting?
11:24What you waiting for?
11:26Every day there's a big white blood
11:29outside your door.
11:31So I'm visiting Allie
11:32and her family on the farm,
11:33and today is the first day
11:34of me helping out with harvest.
11:36Let's go shell some corn.
11:36There's a big white blood
11:38outside your door.
11:40I have helped
11:42with the farming in the past,
11:43but it's been like
11:43a lot of smaller jobs,
11:44like running to get parts
11:45for like the tractors.
11:47Like I haven't really helped
11:49on like this big of a scale
11:50like the harvest.
11:52Allie's family grows
11:53corn and soybeans,
11:54and today we're going to be
11:55harvesting some corn.
11:57Let's do this.
11:58You guys good?
11:59Yep.
11:59Okay.
12:00As long as she knows
12:01what she's doing.
12:02I hope so.
12:04So as we were walking up
12:05to the tractors,
12:05they were pretty big.
12:07I mean, like I'm used
12:08to my dad's small lawn doors.
12:10You ready?
12:29Uh, yep.
12:30I'm not.
12:31Allie seemed really confident
12:32with the tractors,
12:33so that made me feel confident
12:34about the whole day.
12:36All right, start her up.
12:37Ready?
12:37Yep.
12:40Tell me when.
12:43We're ready.
12:44Good.
12:46I'm Allie's father,
12:48and we're out here
12:49harvesting corn today.
12:51The way we do it
12:52is I drive the combine,
12:54and Allie drives the tractor
12:56in a grain cart
12:57that follows alongside
12:58so we can unload
13:00as we are harvesting.
13:01This is so cool.
13:02This is my first time
13:02seeing this.
13:03Like from what I've seen,
13:04like I haven't touched
13:05any of the floor pedals.
13:06So that's good.
13:08In the grain cart,
13:09we don't have any
13:10pedal extenders or anything.
13:13It's all hand controls.
13:14It's all on the iPad and stuff,
13:16so I don't have to use
13:17my foot or anything.
13:18When I first did it,
13:19it was nerve-wracking,
13:20and it still is nerve-wracking,
13:22even though I've been doing it
13:24for like two years now.
13:26If I get scared
13:26hauling a little trailer
13:27behind my truck,
13:28I can only imagine
13:29what it is like hauling that.
13:30I would say it'll take him
13:32like another year
13:33to learn for him
13:34to do it all by himself.
13:37Oh, he's ready to unload.
13:39All right.
13:40Show me what to do.
13:42This part,
13:43you have to concentrate
13:44because you don't want
13:46to go too fast
13:47or too slow.
13:48Yeah, exactly.
13:49That's my fear.
13:50So Allie needs to get
13:51this part right.
13:52Like she needs to be
13:52perfectly aligned with
13:54Adam and his combine
13:55because if she's too close
13:57or too far from the combine,
13:58the corn will spill
14:00and spill into the field,
14:01and that could be
14:02an expensive error
14:02because once that corn
14:04is spilled,
14:04it can't be used anymore.
14:08Make sure you're lined up.
14:10Oh.
14:11It's bumpy sometimes.
14:13Oh.
14:14So yeah,
14:15this is like the high-pressure
14:16part of like what we're doing.
14:18Get a little bit closer to me.
14:20Get a little closer to him.
14:23Although I probably shouldn't
14:24do anything
14:25because you know
14:25what you're doing,
14:25so I'll keep it all shut.
14:28Allie did the job perfectly.
14:38No corn was spilled
14:39and everything came out good.
14:40I did have a few moments
14:41of like,
14:42wow, my girlfriend
14:43can really do this.
14:44Almost like we're about done now.
14:46Okay, you guys,
14:46go put that on the Kenworth.
14:49Got it.
14:50When the cart gets full,
14:52Allie unloads into the semis
14:53and then they take the corn
14:55to the next place
14:58where they either export it
14:59or it gets sold for feed.
15:02Put the auger down.
15:05Coming from a family
15:05of all little people,
15:06like all of us proved
15:07that we can basically
15:08do anything an average
15:09nice person can.
15:10So it was really cool
15:11seeing Allie operate
15:12the heavy machinery
15:13on her farm
15:14like all the rest
15:15of her farm workers can.
15:16I definitely feel like
15:21I learned a lot today
15:22in the grain cart with Allie.
15:24She made it all look pretty easy.
15:25I think she's doing pretty good.
15:27I mean,
15:27I guess there is something
15:28pretty attractive
15:28about a woman
15:29who knows how to
15:29operate heavy machinery.
15:32All right.
15:33Good deal.
15:34How'd that go?
15:34Good.
15:35Good.
15:35Didn't spill anything.
15:36That's key.
15:37Didn't spill nothing.
15:37All right.
15:38Good job.
15:41So after a full day
15:42of harvesting today,
15:43I think I would definitely
15:44consider this as like
15:45maybe my future job
15:46because I mean,
15:47I would not mind
15:47working for Allie's dad.
15:48I think it would go
15:49pretty well
15:50with some more teaching.
15:51We would like it.
15:52We would like the help.
15:55You made it look easy.
15:56Okay.
15:57Good.
16:10Oh,
16:10so Halloween is almost here
16:21and we decided to do
16:23a cute little photo shoot
16:25with Leighton
16:25since Halloween
16:26will be her last first holiday
16:29since Leighton was born
16:31on November 3rd.
16:32So what better way to do it
16:34than sticking her in a pumpkin
16:35and hope she smiles?
16:36I put all the blame
16:39on this idea on Lolly.
16:41Lolly wanted to stick
16:42Leighton in a pumpkin
16:42after seeing some pictures.
16:45Other things that we've done
16:46for Leighton's first holidays,
16:48Boppa and Lolly brought
16:49some snow to the front yard
16:52for Leighton's first Christmas.
16:55Okay.
16:56I can't snowfall it.
16:58We attempted a Valentine's Day
17:00craft with her foot.
17:02Yeah, okay.
17:03That works.
17:04Daddy-O dressed up
17:05like a bunny for Easter.
17:08Let's see if she'll
17:08reach out at you.
17:09So we had a lot of good
17:11first holidays for Ladybug.
17:13It was fun.
17:14I stripped her out of her onesie.
17:17I know.
17:18So do I just need a light,
17:20just light leaves?
17:21In her diaper.
17:22Yeah.
17:23I'll come help you.
17:25Hey.
17:27Since Leighton has been
17:28to daycare,
17:29she has gotten quite sick
17:30a couple of times already.
17:32She's battled a couple
17:33of ear infections
17:33and we battled
17:34some respiratory infections.
17:36So me being a stay-at-home mom
17:38is definitely still on the table
17:39because we definitely
17:41don't want Leighton
17:42sick all the time
17:43because it does take a damper
17:44on her personality.
17:46We don't want that.
17:47We want the happy
17:48little ladybug
17:49that we have,
17:50pretty much.
17:51Try to stick her legs
17:52through the hole.
17:53All right, girl.
17:54Make it!
17:54Boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo.
17:57Boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo.
17:59You might help her
18:01get her feet through.
18:02Oh-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo.
18:05All right.
18:06Take her pesy out.
18:07Leighton!
18:09Oh, no, girl.
18:10Oh, this is so sad.
18:13Leighton!
18:14Hey.
18:15Yay!
18:20We have never put our kids in a pumpkin.
18:22I so wish I would have.
18:25Especially Elizabeth.
18:26Like, she would have been so damn cute.
18:28Alex, I think, would have been okay.
18:29No.
18:30I was too old for that.
18:32Anna and Emma were definitely not babies when we adopted them.
18:35They were four and a half and five and a half.
18:37They definitely would not have fit in a pumpkin.
18:39Jonah would have been...
18:41Ada thrown up in the pumpkin.
18:42Yeah, he did not like any of that.
18:44I don't think I'd ever want to sit naked in a pumpkin.
18:51All right, we're done.
18:52Good girl.
18:54You so not like it?
18:56Nope.
18:57You so not like it?
18:58That was a fail.
19:00Give her the passy.
19:01Give her the passy.
19:03Babe.
19:04I definitely feel like if she was feeling good,
19:06I feel like she would have liked it.
19:08She would have probably failed to maybe try to put her mouth in.
19:10I know, I really thought she would have been the kid to try to, like,
19:12bite the pumpkin.
19:13But since she's not really feeling the best, she...
19:17Wanted mom and dad.
19:18That's it.
19:19Pretty much.
19:19He hailed at mom and dad.
19:21Layton, you want to look at your photos?
19:24The pictures didn't turn out the best.
19:28Oh, you're too nice.
19:29They were awful.
19:30Sad.
19:31Melt your heart.
19:31She's probably even going to laugh at her own pictures.
19:37You know, we're definitely going to do a first birthday party.
19:39Mm-hmm.
19:40Yeah.
19:40Do your family, my family.
19:42Yes, you're turning one.
19:45You want me to go?
19:46Oh!
19:47You can try.
19:48She's just not having it.
19:49I got to figure out what's wrong.
19:51Come here, girl.
19:52It flew by for letting to be already one years old.
19:56I mean, like everybody says, when you have a kid, they grow up so quick, time flies.
20:01It really does.
20:02Because we'll look at pictures and we're like, wow.
20:05Like the baby pictures where the pacifier is bigger than her face, or she's smaller than
20:09the stroller.
20:10And now we're about to start walking and we're trying to form words and it's nuts.
20:15No, I'm sorry.
20:18That pump can just make you so unhappy, girl.
20:26Ooh, that's good.
20:28Okay, take me that.
20:29So after a long day of work with Harpist today, everybody on the farm crew is having dinner
20:34together tonight.
20:37But I have a complaint to make.
20:39Do you have a complaint?
20:40If you'll ever park the truck, do not do a very good job.
20:45So it's hard to unload, isn't it?
20:46Not hard, but challenging.
20:49Yeah.
20:50We have three daughters.
20:52Emma's our oldest daughter.
20:53She's 21.
20:54Allie's 18 and a senior in high school.
20:56And Megan is 15.
20:58And I'm really proud of our girls for knowing the agriculture and being able to run the equipment
21:02and showing their friends and boyfriends how to do it.
21:06Yeah.
21:07So Allie wouldn't let you drive?
21:09I guess not since it's my first time.
21:13Emma used to drive till Allie got to do it.
21:15No.
21:16I don't think she's let you back in, has she?
21:18No.
21:19She's taken over.
21:20I'm really proud of watching Allie because I did that a few years ago.
21:24So watching her take over.
21:25And obviously she's a little person.
21:27So she's really good at adapting to her surroundings.
21:29Like I don't have to help her really anymore with anything.
21:32She's good to do everything on her own and all that.
21:36It makes me a proud sister moment for sure.
21:38What did you get to do today, Alex?
21:41I just rode along with Allie as she taught me some of the features of the tracker and
21:46how to do the auger on the green card.
21:49Did you like it?
21:49Mm-hmm.
21:51I really enjoyed it.
21:52When we first heard that Allie was going to have dwarfism, it was scary.
21:57We didn't know what to expect and what to do.
21:59And we didn't know anybody.
22:01Come to find out, there was about eight babies born in the Cincinnati area.
22:05The year Allie was born that also had achondroplasia.
22:07It was important for us for Allie to know other little people and have that support.
22:13But then we kept hearing about National Conference and how amazing that was.
22:16So we went to Spokane and Adam was sitting in the lobby talking to Trent.
22:22And then Amber came in and she took Allie and took him down and introduced her to Alex
22:27and Emma.
22:28That was about the last time we saw her all week.
22:30She said that's the one week a year she feels normal.
22:34Mm-hmm.
22:35Yeah.
22:35I'm going to take over here soon.
22:39For my surgery?
22:40Yeah, for your surgery, I'm going to have to take over.
22:41In a few weeks, Allie will be having leg surgery to kind of help straighten her legs out.
22:45So we were coming down to Atlanta to have that done.
22:48Leg surgery for individuals with achondroplasia is simply to correct the bowing in the lower leg.
22:57Allie's family decided to do her leg surgery in Georgia because they met with the surgeon
23:03that we used and they were very impressed and I think felt very confident and comfortable
23:09with him.
23:10So Allie's grown up in a family of all average height people.
23:14Mm-hmm.
23:14And you've grown up in a family of all little people.
23:16So thinking of your house, like, you guys have the accommodations.
23:20Like, is it harder for you to come up here?
23:21No, I mean, I mean...
23:23We've got the stools, but we don't have things lowered.
23:25Yeah, you have the stools and that makes it just as easy.
23:27I mean, just extra step.
23:28But, I mean, it's not any more challenging being here than it is at my house.
23:31Yeah.
23:33We've always tried to make accommodations, but you have to be able to function out in society
23:37also.
23:38Yeah, we have to start to learn just to adapt to the society that's not made for us.
23:41That's right.
23:41Yeah.
23:42That's right.
23:42I figured I've learned some ways to adapt and to use my surroundings.
23:48Correct.
23:49You know, for your kids, you always want to try and make life better for them and easier,
23:53but also don't make it too easy because she will have to go out into the world that's
23:58not made for her size.
23:59So she needs to learn at home how to adapt and figure things out.
24:04She's really grown to advocate for herself and tell us what she needs.
24:07I just need Allie or Jeremy to teach me how to use the algor on the green card.
24:11That's pretty much it.
24:12Okay.
24:13Everybody spills.
24:14So if you do, you've just joined a really not good club of people because it happens to
24:18everybody.
24:19Seems like about every field we have to do it.
24:21I love watching Allie and Alex get to know each other.
24:24It's just been really awesome to watch them.
24:27It's been fun.
24:28Yeah.
24:28Have their relationship and see it blossom.
24:32And a lot of times farms are passed down generation and generation.
24:35You know, your kids get into it.
24:36Allie loves this so much and Alex.
24:39Gosh, that'd be our dream come true if they could keep this going.
24:43Right.
24:43Just sitting out there driving back and forth.
24:45That's all you do all day.
24:46Drive back and forth in a tractor.
24:47That's right.
24:48Or a combine.
24:49It's not that hard.
24:50Anyone can do it.
24:51Anybody can do it.
24:52I did it.
24:54Honestly, I think tonight is, like, I would say like a little trial run on what our lives
24:58could be like in a few years.
25:00Like, if I do commit to the farm, like, this is what it could look like.
25:03And it's very exciting.
25:04I'm okay with that.
25:05Maybe I can major in farming and a minor in broadcasting.
25:08I know that I can do a little bit of both.
25:09You can do that.
25:10I would like to enjoy the meeting.
25:12There you go.
25:13Very good.
25:14Very nice.
25:14Yay.
25:15I'm facial.
25:15I've got a mind of my own, so if you can leave it alone.
25:29Are you going to go help me pick up sticks?
25:31Yes.
25:32Today I am doing some cleanup down at the pavilion.
25:35I need to burn this pile of sticks before it gets too big.
25:39And then I've still got that whole side over there that needs to...
25:46God.
25:48It's cold, mama.
25:50Yeah.
25:51We couldn't have done this last week.
25:53Since it was cold, it's the perfect time to burn some branches and have some alone time.
26:00There we go.
26:00We're cooking with grease now.
26:05So have you talked to Emma and Alex about their talk with Ana?
26:11Not happy.
26:12Alex was not happy.
26:13They were quite stressed.
26:15Hey.
26:16Hey.
26:17Hi.
26:17Alex and Emma reached out to Ana to meet and have dinner.
26:22Since you missed Emma's graduation, I guess you've been real busy.
26:26I am very sorry about that.
26:29There was no communication with the family.
26:31And I know I could have just...
26:32I mean, but you could have been the one to reach out to us.
26:35It's always looked out.
26:36I'm the bad person.
26:37I'm the bad person.
26:40She made the decision to not attend the graduation.
26:44And all Emma and Alex were asking for is just an apology.
26:48Just say you're sorry.
26:49Oh, she never did say sorry?
26:51I mean, I think she said she's sorry, but it was, you know, followed up with,
26:56but I don't want family drama, blah, blah, blah.
27:00I apologized to Alex and Emma about missing their graduation.
27:04And I feel like they accepted it, but I wish all of them understood that, like,
27:11me pulling back from family events.
27:12Honestly, it's mom and dad.
27:15I didn't feel welcome being around them.
27:17Because we're approaching the holidays, we're in the holiday season.
27:23I mean, obviously this year, we're not even, like,
27:26our Christmas card is not going to be our whole family because of this.
27:30I have not seen anybody since that dinner with Alex and Emma.
27:34It definitely makes me sad because I want to see, like, my siblings.
27:37I want to hang out with my siblings.
27:38Um, but I don't want to come to mom and dad's house if I am not welcomed by them.
27:45You know, Anna missed, obviously, Poppy's heavenly birthday.
27:49She missed the fall fest.
27:50And next is Leighton's first birthday and Thanksgiving.
27:53It's incredibly sad.
27:55I think you and I should try once more and we'll meet at a neutral ground, like a coffee shop.
28:04Not her living room.
28:04Not her living room.
28:05Not our house.
28:07And, I mean, come to an agreement with Anna to see if she'll come around.
28:16I would like for her to.
28:19I think it's important for Amber and I to try once again to have a sit-down conversation with Anna.
28:23As parents, we really would like to resolve this.
28:27On the basis that she's actually going to...
28:31Not just show up and sit there.
28:32...and sit in the chair.
28:33She's going to participate.
28:35She's going to conversate.
28:37Everybody makes mistakes.
28:38But when you don't take ownership for yourself, what you have done, it's truly impossible to move forward.
28:48Anna needs to figure out how Anna is going to move forward with her family.
29:00Saddle up.
29:03We're getting to the stagecoach in the night.
29:06Are you ready?
29:09Yeah, I'm ready.
29:10Allie and I decided to take a break from the farm, so we decided to visit a little pumpkin patch.
29:14And later tonight, I'm taking her out to dinner.
29:17Oh, look at that little mini tractor over there.
29:20Oh, yeah.
29:20Oh, I think it's for sale, too.
29:22No, we don't need it at our house.
29:24Since both of us still live with our parents, it is kind of hard for us to find some alone time.
29:28So whenever we can get it, we always take it.
29:31For sure.
29:32I should have gotten a...
29:35...strawl.
29:36Yeah, I'll get you one.
29:38You're a bad dish.
29:40When Alex got the straw for me, it was cute because he's a good person and he pulls me out with stuff.
29:49I would say that he's a good man.
29:51I enjoy having him.
29:53Oh, you want to get a picture at the Browns farm side?
29:56Oh, yes.
29:57Something I love about Allie is just I love her personality.
30:01She is really caring and, like, always checks up on me.
30:04She's just a great person overall, and she's beautiful.
30:06I like this area a lot.
30:09I would not mind moving up here.
30:10I think you should.
30:11You seem pretty dead set on staying here, so I don't think I have much choice.
30:14I'm really excited about my future with Allie, and, like, my ideal plan is that once I'm through with college,
30:21I think that's when I'll start looking at moving up there with her.
30:23I feel like my family that I've talked to, like, everybody's saying, like, Georgia has a really good broadcasting program since that's what I want to go into.
30:30Oh, yeah.
30:31But then again, they've also said broadcasting is also a thing I can do from, like, virtually at home.
30:35So I could be here and still farm and still do, like, broadcasting stuff, too, like, on the side.
30:39Yeah.
30:40Alex loves the farm life.
30:42If you asked me now, I think both of us, we would say Alex would be the first one to really commit to relocating and moving to Ohio.
30:49And I have no problem with that.
30:50There's a wonderful family out there that has accepted Alex.
30:52I'm going to stay at my college for right now, just to at least get my core classes done.
30:56But maybe once I get those finished up, I may consider transferring.
31:00Speaking of college, I need to find where I'm going.
31:03Since I'm almost finished with high school, I will go to, like, a local college to do ag business.
31:10Since Alex is doing online college, I might do that as well.
31:14If you're doing classes like I am, now you'll have a lot more free time.
31:17I'll find free time to come visit you.
31:19I'll always find free time.
31:20Yeah, the same for you.
31:22No.
31:23Do you want to go look around now?
31:25Yes.
31:26Just watch your step, though, getting out.
31:44Hello.
31:45Hey, guys.
31:46How are you?
31:47Doing well.
31:47How are you?
31:48So we were just gifted some land from my parents.
31:51They gave us a lot in the same neighborhood that they live in.
31:55And so now we are going to meet with a builder to give us estimates on, you know, the home that we would like to have to build on this lot.
32:04So tell me what y'all are thinking about doing.
32:05So there has been land that has been purchased, coincidentally, in our parents' neighborhood.
32:11And it is a one-acre lot, and there's a pond.
32:15But from the looks of the land, it slopes down.
32:19And we had a potential blueprint, but we're not really sure if this blueprint will suit the land.
32:24And we're really just trying to figure out if barnuminiums are obviously the biggest trend right now.
32:32A barnuminium, you really can think of it like a giant shed.
32:35And it's something that Bryce and I have looked into because it is a little bit more affordable.
32:39And you can kind of customize it to any way that you want within a reasonable price.
32:45We do have some in-house plans that we build all the time that are very popular.
32:50But for your situation, you're going to probably want something a little more customized than those.
32:56A little bit.
32:56A little bit with my intricate family.
33:00So I definitely want a walk-in shower simply because it is more accessible for me.
33:05Really, there's no other LP accommodations that I would want in my home right now.
33:09Just because since we do have an average size daughter, I cannot raise her in a home where everything is my height.
33:16If I was building a house from scratch, I mean, there would be some things that were tailored to me.
33:22But nothing more than kitchen stools and, like, maybe some lowered light fixtures.
33:29Lower the kitchen cabinets, stuff like that, just to make it a little bit more accessible.
33:32Having maybe an elevator in a house would be cool instead of stairs.
33:38That would make it more fun.
33:40Okay, well, we don't think of that, but still.
33:42It'd be just like the fridge messing up.
33:44You'd just call the maintenance guy.
33:45Yeah.
33:46On a typical barn dominium plan, most of them are on a slab foundation.
33:50Okay.
33:51Of course, that we'd have to see.
33:54We may be able to do some grading on your lot to get it to where we can accommodate a slab.
33:58A lot with a slope like that is typically going to be either a basement or a crawl space, depending on how steep the slope is.
34:06There have been multiple lots that we have looked at with my dad, with the land being not super flat.
34:12We are aware that grading and tree removals can be quite pricey.
34:16For a typical, we're going to say, four-bedroom, two-bathroom house, so probably about 2,200 square feet, how long does that typically take for you guys to build?
34:26Six to nine months.
34:28Six to nine months.
34:28It's important to me to have mine and her own space with Leighton.
34:35With the time frame of the builder giving us six to nine months to build the house, me and her are a little pressured to get that done before her second birthday.
34:46So the shorter we have to wait, the better, because I would way much rather it be us three on our own and just enjoying it.
34:55And then the only other thing that we might run into that would be a concern is if we were doing a basement foundation, of course, we have to dig into the ground.
35:06There may be some rock or something that could be a challenge to dig through.
35:10With the added expenses of needing to grade and remove trees and add a basement foundation, we've realized that this is definitely going to require more money and more time to be able to build this home.
35:25I'm just nervous about whenever we go to the land, if like we're not able to build in the spot that we want to build or we're just going to have to rethink a whole different blueprint.
35:35So this meeting with the builder definitely may change our view on the land, whether we want it or not.
35:43There could be a chance where it could be more closer to Leighton's third birthday instead, and we don't want that.
35:50So should we continue with, you know, keeping the land and building, or should we go back to looking and just simply buying a house off the market?
35:58We definitely need to think about it.
36:00Thank you so much.
36:01It was nice officially meeting you again.
36:03Good to meet you.
36:14You ready?
36:15Yeah, I'm hungry.
36:16To get some Cincinnati chili?
36:17Yeah, I'm hungry.
36:19Me too.
36:21So tonight is my last night in Ohio, and I figured I would treat Allie out to a dinner with some Cincinnati chili.
36:27I'm not sure what I want.
36:29There's a lot of options.
36:33A good way to describe Cincinnati chili is like a more runny, that sounds gross, but kind of like a less thick chili with like cinnamon in it.
36:41It's usually served like on a big plate of noodles or like hot dogs or fries, so it's kind of versatile on anything really.
36:48Can I have chili cheese fries, please?
36:52And I'll do two cheese ponies.
36:54I stuttered too, so you're good.
36:58I stuttered all the freaking time.
37:01So Allie and I both have a stutter when we get nervous.
37:05That is something we have in common.
37:06We both like to be very organized, and we both like to know what's coming up ahead.
37:10So, yeah, we're both pretty similar in those fields.
37:14And she's even about to have the same leg surgery that I had quite a few years ago now.
37:17So, are you nervous for your leg surgery, honey?
37:21I'm nervous to put under.
37:24From like all the surgeries I've had, going under is like the easiest part.
37:27Just read it in a few breaths and you're out.
37:28Yeah, I'm just telling myself that it's a deep sleep.
37:32It is.
37:33It really is.
37:34So, I'm having surgery in two weeks, which will make my legs straight and so I can walk
37:41proper and I don't have, and I don't walk on my ankles anymore, which I am really excited
37:46for.
37:46I've been looking forward to this day for a long time, and I can't wait.
37:51Alex had his surgery very young because his bowing was so extreme, he could not pull his
38:10pants up and down by himself.
38:11Elizabeth had the surgery post-puberty when she was 13 because during puberty, the growth
38:19rate is higher and therefore the dwarf bones stayed dwarf and the non-dwarf bones, you
38:25know, continued to grow and we ended up with bowing that also was creating back problems
38:31and things like that.
38:32Dad wanted me to mention this to you.
38:33You're probably going to have to get like a piece of wood, as you can tell, like with
38:37Liz underneath her legs just so they can stay upright so they don't like fall down like this
38:41and they'll stay straight.
38:42I will tell my dad that.
38:44And Liz actually had to get her hair washed outside because she couldn't like go in the shower
38:47with a bow.
38:48That is one thing that I'm going to figure out.
38:51Since Alex has already had surgery, I'm not too worried about it.
38:57Like, I already know what to expect.
38:59He's told me and I know that it's going to be okay.
39:02Mom, dad and I will be there at the hospital on your surgery day, so we'll be there when
39:06you wake up.
39:10So in a way, the surgery is kind of a plus for me too because I'll get to see Allie more
39:16often and she'll be a lot closer.
39:18Yeah, like an hour away instead of eight hours away.
39:20Yeah, now we're in way instead of eight hours.
39:22Yeah, exactly.
39:22It's nice.
39:23Thanks for having me up here these past few days.
39:26I've really enjoyed it.
39:27When are we going to see each other again besides my surgery?
39:29My best bet is like New Year's trip I always make or I've made the past two years.
39:35So not too much longer actually.
39:38Yeah, like a month.
39:40Just a month, two months.
39:41Yeah, not bad.
39:42Yeah.
39:42And as if we're seeing each other halfway through it, it'll make it go by faster.
39:46Yeah.
39:47It's kind of nice that we're at the point of a relationship where we have like traditions
39:50now.
39:50Like I always make that trip at the end of the year and it's been the last part of the
39:54holidays with Allie and her family and like spending New Year's with them.
39:57But yeah, I'm going to miss you.
39:58I'm going to fight home tomorrow.
40:00Yeah, it's going to be sad.
40:01It is hard waiting to be really close with Allie because I love being up there whenever
40:06I get the chance.
40:07I've met the woman I'm going to marry and I just can't wait to count down the days and
40:12we'll eventually be together for the rest of our lives.
40:17Take one.
40:18Thank you, you too.
40:19Yeah.
40:22Next time on Seven Little Johnstons.
40:25Are you the birthday girl?
40:26Today is officially Layton's first birthday.
40:29I don't know why.
40:30There's only one person she absolutely despises and it's Heidi.
40:34The goal for the first birthday party for me today was just not to make her cry.
40:37Oh, dude.
40:38Look, it's a pretty gay.
40:39Yeah.
40:43Heidi.
40:46That was Ashley.
40:48Good.
40:48Getting to the point where there's a, you know, ring talking.
