00:00Dave Chappelle opened up about being attacked on stage at the Hollywood Bowl during a secret comedy show with Chris Rock in Los Angeles.
00:08The comedian performed at the Comedy Store on Thursday in the club's 70-seat belly room.
00:13After taking the stage, he immediately addressed the topic of the Tuesday night attack at the Hollywood Bowl,
00:18saying he couldn't see the man's face but that he got a grip of his hair.
00:21Chappelle described being embraced immediately after the incident by his son who told him,
00:25Dad, I love you. Chappelle also shouted out the many people who reached out to him after the assault, saying,
00:31A lot of people love me, it turns out.
00:33Rock then joined Chappelle on stage and remained there for the rest of the performance,
00:37as the pair joked about the headline-making attacks they'd recently experienced,
00:41following Will Smith slapping Rock on stage at the 2022 Oscars.
00:45Later in the set, Chappelle described convincing the Los Angeles police to allow him to enter the room
00:49where his alleged assailant, 23-year-old Isaiah Lee, was being held.
00:53The comedian asked Lee what prompted the attack, to which Lee, who Chappelle said appeared to him to be mentally ill,
00:59offered a story about his grandmother from Brooklyn,
01:01who had been forced out of her neighborhood by gentrification.
01:04Chappelle said Lee told him the attack was meant to draw attention to her plight.
