'Beef' creator Lee Sung Jin shares what he looks for when casting a show, a possible season 2 and more at the SAG Awards.

00:00What does it mean to see the cast recognize this way at the SAG Awards?

00:03It's just the best.

00:05Steven and Ali, they're my best friends at this point.

00:09And they put their... truly they're all into the show.

00:14And to see them recognize this whole run and then to celebrate tonight,

00:19just whatever happens, just to be together, it's really wonderful.

00:23Not only are they so talented, they're just the best human, so they deserve it all.

00:28Since the SAG Awards is all about celebrating actors,

00:31when you're casting actors in a show,

00:33what's one thing that you look for that makes somebody really stand out to you

00:36and be like, oh, I want to work with them?

00:39Oh, that's a great question.

00:41I think it depends, like, case by case on the character.

00:45Ultimately, though, you're hoping to find someone

00:47that's tapping into something true and honest.

00:50And, you know, I think so much of acting is actually the removal of performance.

00:57And so, yeah, we're always trying to find collaborators who really want to go there

01:03and remove the mask when they put on the mask.

01:07Yeah.

01:08People are hungry for more beef, no pun intended.

01:13But will we get a second season?

01:15Could this become an anthology?

01:16What's the latest on that?

01:18You know, we still haven't gotten an official anything.

01:21And so, you know, this is streaming on Netflix, so maybe they'll, I don't know.

01:26But, yeah, as soon as I hear, you know, I'm definitely ready.

01:33You know, there's so many themes that I want to explore still.

01:36So, yeah, we'll see what the powers that be come back with.

01:41Can you give a little tease of some of the themes you've been thinking about

01:45or that we could maybe expect in another season?

01:48I mean, I think I'll hold off.

01:52But, you know, certainly these award shows, the trophies themselves,

01:58are good bludgeoning weapons for a TV show.

02:02So I just notice how heavy they are all the time.

02:06But that's kind of the main thing.

02:08Definitely.

02:09It takes place, you know, award season lead up.

02:11We're dreaming it up right now.

02:13Two people beefing it out for the trophy.

02:15One of them hits, I don't know where I'm going with this.

02:17No, it's a docuseries now.

02:20That'll be the headline.

02:21Beef is docuseries.

02:23No, I'm excited to dive back into it.

02:26You know, it's been a little busy at the top of this year.

02:29But I'd love to kind of get back to where I feel most comfortable,

02:33which is in front of a laptop.

02:35Do you have any dream actors that you'd love to see

02:38in a potential future season of the show?

02:40There's so many.

02:42You know, the GOAT for me is Song Kang-ho, the dad in Parasite.

02:49Memories of Murder.

02:51He's just, you know, I think the best actor of all time.

02:56And, yeah, there's just like such a long list.

02:58But, you know, it's hard to say even if it's for beef or for something else.

03:03But there's so many heroes that I look up to.

03:07And we'll have to see what kind of creatively springs up.
