Transcript
00:00Do you feel like today's ceremony has a renewed sense of energy following the SAG-AFTRA strike from last year?
00:05My God, absolutely. I mean, you can feel it out here.
00:08Everybody is ready to celebrate.
00:10Everybody's looking forward to this next year, taking advantage of the wins
00:14and the new sense of collective energy that we've got going into this.
00:19So it's just a great night to celebrate. I'm feeling it.
00:22What does it mean to celebrate actors tonight after last year's SAG-AFTRA strike?
00:25Well, one of the big things that we talked about throughout the strike was the importance of the humanity
00:31that we bring into the room when we go to work.
00:33And tonight we celebrate the people who bring a human face to these films
00:38and bring their souls to these films.
00:41And I'm convinced that's never going to go out of style.
00:44That's never going to be replaced. So it's fun to celebrate it.
00:46Since we are celebrating actors and acting, what role got you your SAG card?
00:50My SAG card, it was a show called Snoops.
00:54And I was a college student and my line was, he's over there, professor.
01:01And you'll never forget it.
01:02I will never forget it.
01:04There have been so many amazing films released this past year.
01:07Do you have a favorite film in this award season race?
01:09I've got two. Oppenheimer, just because it's so gorgeous.
01:14It's like an exploration of humanity and science and hard choices that we face
01:22and the unknowns and life and death and big picture and what is God and what is man.
01:29I mean, it's big.
01:29And then American fiction, because it's smaller, just a smaller version of the same kind of deep questions about who we are,
01:38how do we make who we are, and how do we want to live our lives.
01:42Those two.
01:43Plus, I love Jeffrey Wright. He's an old friend, so it's great to see him having his moment.
01:48That's amazing. Is there anybody else you're excited to see here tonight at the SAG Awards?
01:51Well, and I heard Idris Elba's here, so yeah, a little bit of that would be nice.
01:57And in your role at the Guild, what are your hopes for the union in 2024, especially after the strike?
02:02Well, I was elected vice president during our last convention, October,
02:07and we got cut short to go back to the negotiating table.
02:11So I feel like I'm taking this office at the beginning of a brand new kind of restructuring,
02:18reinvigoration, reimagining of who we are and what we can be so that we are facing the future with energy that's for today.
02:28So that's part of the challenge in front of us and part of the opportunity in front of us.
02:33Looking forward to it.
