Teo Yoo shares his reaction to being nominated for 'Past Lives' at the Film Independent Spirit Awards. Plus, he dishes on filming season 2 for Netflix's 'The Recruit.'
00:02Great. Humble. I feel everything. I feel grateful, humbled, thankful.
00:08A little bit arrogant, but also a little bit of imposter syndrome.
00:12How do you balance that? And wait, first of all, tell me why arrogant?
00:16Because I'm, I guess, the first Korean Korean who has been nominated for an Independent Spirit Award.
00:24Yeah. So that's something. I mean, it's coming from Korean culture and being like a trailblazer, that's like the most important thing.
00:34When you go home, do you hear a lot about that, about these records and the paths you're blazing, the trails you're blazing?
00:42Well, the funny thing is I haven't been able to go back home yet because I've been working in Canada at the moment on my newest project.
00:49So we'll see. I'm going back next week.
00:51Remind me what the new project is.
00:53Okay. I'm working on a show called The Recruit for Netflix and it's season two that I joined them.
00:59And it's more Korean centric, spy, action, thriller, comedy. So it's a lot of fun.
01:05What, and how are you, are you done on it now?
01:08I'm done by the end of April.
01:10That's amazing. And then you go home for a little bit and then what, you know?
01:14And then, I mean, my reps are dealing with, the deals are not done yet, but it's a feature film, which will be a lot of fun.
01:22I cannot talk about it right now, but once, I hope, you know, it's going to be set in stone pretty soon.
01:28Sworn in secrecy. Well, when you're ready to talk, we can talk about it. And then in the meantime, you know, the love for this movie has just gone on for months and deservingly so.
01:38But is there, is there a performance you want to give a little love to another, another peer of yours or a performance that you saw the past year that, that really meant something to you?
01:46Yeah, I loved two of my more experienced fellas who I hope will get the award. I love, I love Jeffrey Wright in American fiction.
01:56I loved him ever since Basquiat and then Angels of America, like his cadence, the way he works technically with his breath and his body language.
02:05I'm a student of his work and I also love Cillian Murphy. I got the chance to talk to both of them and be like a fanboy. So that has been special to me.
02:14Well, you're pretty special yourself. Enjoy the day.
