00:00Today, November 26, we celebrate Delphine, a woman whose life was a constant balance between gentleness, austerity, and a burning love for God.
00:12Saint Delphine, born around 1283 in Provence, belonged to a noble family from the south of France.
00:19From a very young age, she chose to dedicate her life to God, drawn to purity, prayer and a form of radical simplicity.
00:28Married against her will to Count Elzéar de Sabran, she nevertheless convinces him to live with her in a completely chaste marriage, united in a deep spiritual friendship.
00:40Together, they become an amazing couple, rich but living like poor people, influential but always focused on the weakest.
00:50Upon Elzéar's death, Delphine renounces everything: fortune, title, comfort.
00:55She spent the rest of her life in prayer, almsgiving and penance, radiating a discreet but intense holiness.
01:05She died in 1358 as a free woman, deeply faithful to her evangelical ideal.
01:12Delphine was born in Puy-Michel, into a wealthy family from Provence.
01:16Orphaned at a very young age, she grew up under the protection of adoptive parents who made sure to give her a solid Christian education.
01:25From a very early age, she felt an attraction to the consecrated life.
01:29She fasts, prays at length, and dreams of joining a religious order.
01:33But like many young noblewomen of her time, her destiny seemed set: a marriage of convenience.
01:42She was therefore forced into marriage with Elzéar de Sabran, a young count of high lineage, renowned for his kindness and balanced character.
01:52Delphine is grieving this wedding, convinced that this voice is not her own.
01:55However, something very rare happens.
02:00Elzéar understands his soul.
02:03The couple agree to live a marriage of absolute purity, transformed into a profound spiritual brotherhood.
02:11Their union became a model.
02:13They pray together, watch over the poor, support the destitute, and practice a humility that is astonishing for their rank.
02:21Delphine is distinguished by her extreme discretion.
02:24In a noble world of pomp and ceremony, she wears simple clothes, forgoes feasts, refuses privileges, and spends her days visiting the poor.
02:36She cares for the sick, comforts the dying, and distributes her fortune.
02:41She never seeks to put herself forward.
02:44What she wants is to disappear so that God can be visible through her actions.
02:49When Elzéar died in 1323, everything changed.
02:54Delphine is broken, but she transforms her pain into an offering.
02:59She gave up all her possessions, left luxury behind for good, and adopted a life close to Franciscan poverty.
03:07She settled in Apte, then in Cabrière d'Aigues, where she lived in a small, bare house, eating almost nothing, spending her nights in prayer.
03:16His reputation for holiness spread silently throughout Provence.
03:22People come to see her to ask for advice, to implore comfort, to entrust a prayer intention.
03:30Despite the hardships of her life, Delphine remains gentle, patient, and welcoming.
03:34It is this unique combination of inner austerity and tenderness towards others that makes her a role model even today.
03:44She died peacefully in 1358, surrounded by a few Franciscan brothers.
03:51The people spontaneously venerate her, seeing in her a woman of rare purity, faithful to the end to her ideal of love and simplicity.
04:00Prayer to Saint Delphine
04:03Saint Delphine, you who chose evangelical poverty, you who transformed your life into an act of silent love,
04:12Teach us gentleness, purity of heart, and generous love towards those who suffer.
04:19Intercede for us in our struggles, enlighten our choices, calm our fears and lead us on the path of true peace.
04:28Amen
