00:00Today, November 27th, we celebrate Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal.
00:05In France, the civil calendar also mentions Severin, Virgil, Maximus and Francis Antony.
00:13But the most well-known and revered figure in the world on that day remains the Virgin Mary of Rue du Bac.
00:20responsible for millions of conversions and healings.
00:23Paris, 1830. A young nun of 24, simple, shy, almost unknown,
00:32receives a visit in his chapel that will shake the Church to its core.
00:36The Virgin Mary herself appears to him.
00:40She shows him an image, an oval of light, rays emanating from her hands.
00:46a crushed snake at her feet and around her.
00:49O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you.
00:56Mary told him to have a medal struck, which would become one of the most widespread devotions on the planet.

01:35Catherine Labouré, a young novice, is suddenly awakened by a mysterious child who calls her
01:40"The Blessed Virgin is waiting for you."
01:44She follows the child through the corridors.
01:47The doors open silently.
01:49The chapel lights up.
01:52And then, Catherine falls to her knees.
01:55Marie is sitting in the spiritual director's chair.
02:00She speaks, at length, like a mother to her daughter.
02:03It heralds difficult times, trials for France, for the Church.
02:10But it also promises a presence, consolation, a mission.
02:17A few months later, a second appearance marked history forever.
02:22November 27, 1830.
02:24Mary appears standing, dressed in white, with open hands, from which radiant rays emanate.
02:32symbolizing the graces given to those who ask for them.
02:36The image is turned upside down.
02:38We see an M surmounted by a cross.
02:42Two hearts.
02:43That of Jesus, crowned with thorns, and that of Mary, pierced.
02:49Surrounded by twelve stars.
02:51Marie then said to Catherine.
02:53Catherine, have a medal struck according to this design.
02:57Those who wear it with confidence will receive great graces.
03:03Catherine, loyal and discreet, seeks no glory.
03:09She never puts herself forward.
03:11She will never say anything about her identity when she appeared.
03:16For forty-six years, she remained in the shadows,
03:19serving the poor, in the kitchen, the laundry, the infirmary.
03:25Meanwhile, the medal is spreading around the world.
03:30First in Paris, then throughout France.
03:33In a few years, more than a billion copies will be distributed.
03:38The medal becomes a sign of trust, of hope, a link between Mary and those who invoke her.
03:53Catherine would only achieve fame after her death in 1876.
03:59when it was discovered that she was the fortune teller of rue du Bac.
