00:00Here are today's top stories. First, Johnny Depp has been forced out of the Fantastic Beasts film
00:05franchise by studio Warner Brothers. The actor made the announcement in an Instagram post on
00:15Friday. He wrote, in part, I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner
00:20Brothers from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts, and I have respected and agreed to that
00:25request. Depp's firing comes after the actor lost a libel suit in the UK against News Group
00:30Newspapers, publisher of The Sun. Depp sued the UK-based publisher for defamation over an April
00:3517, 2018 article headlined, How Can J.K. Rowling Be Genuinely Happy Casting Wife-Beater Johnny Depp
00:42in the new Fantastic Beasts film? After a contentious summer trial that made global headlines for weeks
00:47and put the relationship between Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard under a microscope, a judge
00:52dismissed the suit on Monday, finding that what the paper published was, quote, substantially
00:57true. Stephen Colbert is blasting President Donald Trump for trying to, quote, poison American
01:02democracy with his false election claims and pleading for Republicans to speak up. Colbert's
01:07The Late Show came after Trump made a speech Thursday in which he repeated claims that the
01:11election was rigged. If you did not know that Joe Biden was getting close to 270, Donald Trump just
01:19provided all the proof you will ever need. Though Colbert says Trump's behavior is predictable,
01:23he argued that the president needs to, quote, get a new act. According to the host, we all knew he
01:28would do this. But then an emotional Colbert paused while at a loss for words. What I didn't know is that
01:34it would hurt so much. I didn't expect this to break my heart. The late night host then pleaded for
01:41Republicans to speak up and reject what Trump did in that speech. He just attacked the thing that makes
01:47us most great. And it is time for you all to mean what your hats have been yelling.
01:52And Warner Brothers is speaking out after its recent release, The Witches, suffered online
01:56backlash from the disability community. THR's Neha Joy has more.
02:00In the Robert Zemeckis-directed adaptation of Raul Dahl's children's classic, the villainous
02:05witches, including the coven leader, played by Anne Hathaway, are seen as having only three fingers.
02:10The design looks similar to ectrodactyly, also known as split or cleft hand, which is a limb
02:15disability that is the absence of one or more fingers. A studio spokesperson says,
02:20We the filmmakers and Warner Brothers Pictures are deeply saddened to learn that our depiction
02:24of the fictional characters in The Witches could upset people with disabilities and regret
02:28any offense caused. For more on all these stories, head to THR.com. For The Hollywood Reporter
