00:00The big story in this game, though, well, two big stories in this game.
00:03One, Brock Purdy looked like trash in victory.
00:05He threw three picks, probably should have thrown at least two more,
00:08all in the first half of the game.
00:11So the Niners were able to bring the ship into the shore.
00:15They win the game.
00:15They're 8-4 on the season now.
00:18But San Francisco wide receiver Jawan Jennings, after the game,
00:24went over and struck Carolina Panthers safety Trevon Merrig twice,
00:28right after the conclusion of the game.
00:30And so at the time, it was like, man, what's Jawan Jennings' problem?
00:34Why is he starting a fight after the game?
00:36And then the replay surfaces, video surfaces, showing that during the game,
00:43Merrig delivered a low blow to Jennings with a left-hand uppercut,
00:47like a closed fist to the groin, like bammo, straight right in the schnuts.
00:53Yeah, no accident about it.
00:56It was a groin shot.
00:58Yep, zero.
00:59And Jennings said after the game, man, TV's going to tell you what happened.
01:02I was just responding to some childish behavior.
01:05That's all it was after the game.
01:07All right, so how is Trevon Merrig viewed after this by his teammates, Seth,
01:12that he's punching other guys?
01:13I guess the question would be, all right,
01:16does he have an explanation for why he went full nut shot on it?
01:20Did Jennings do something earlier?
01:21Yeah, what was there, did he say something or anything?
01:24We haven't heard anything like that that I can see as of yet.
01:27I don't know.
01:28I don't know.
01:29Is full nut shot ever an acceptable retaliation?
01:33Well, is it a retaliation?
01:35No.
01:36I think in a scramble for a football, it used to be more acceptable.
01:41Okay.
01:42Might happen, theoretically.
01:45Down there?
01:45Yeah, it might be like, hey, I don't know, lots of fists were being thrown around all
01:50over the place.
01:51That one happened to land in a groin.
01:53Yeah.
01:53But not out in the open like that.
01:55Yeah.
01:56I'm surprised.
01:57I mean, people didn't see it until a little bit later, but, yeah, the Kyle Shanahan.
02:01I mean, people were never happy about it when they got hit in the nuts in a scramble.
02:04No, no.
02:05Football.
02:05I don't think a lot of it happens at all anymore just because there's so many cameras everywhere.
02:10There used to be a lot more cheap shots that you could get away with.
02:12Nut shot.
02:13But now there's so many high-definition cameras on everything that I doubt it happens nearly
02:18as much as it used to.
02:19Nut shot feels pretty cowardly.
02:21Do you think Merrick gets punished for this?
02:23He'll get a fine for this, right?
02:24I guess this is a question.
02:26So the spit, the spitting that Jamar Chase did, that got him suspended for a game?
02:32Got him suspended for a game.
02:33It was a full game, right?
02:34Full game, man.
02:35That guy, is a groin shot equally as degrading as spitting on somebody?
02:42Oh, this is a good one.
02:43I don't feel like it is.
02:45This feels like a pender pull, I think, right?
02:47I feel like it's certainly not acceptable, but it doesn't necessarily feel as degrading
02:54as spitting on somebody.
02:56Yes.
02:57It's more degrading to the person who delivers.
03:01The person who's actually throwing the groin shot, it's more of an indication of like,
03:07all right, dude, what are you doing?
03:08This is how you choose to fight?
03:09Yep.
03:11Versus the spitting on is just, that's about as degrading as it gets.
03:15Absolutely.
03:16Disrespectful, degrading the whole thing.
03:18And Jamar Chase.
03:19I would say, I think you should get suspended for a quarter for that.
03:23Okay.
03:24All right.
03:24For the nut shot.
03:26Yeah.
03:26I think spitting, I'm all for just the full game.
03:30Can't do it.
03:31The groin shot, at the very least, is a little bit more of like actual one-on-one combat.
03:40Yeah.
03:40But it's dirty.
03:41Yes.
03:42It's dirty.
03:43It's a dirty shot.
03:44Spitting on somebody is degrading and beyond the pale.
03:48It doesn't inflict the same physical pain, but the degradation you experience is way beyond
03:54any short-term pain you get from the nut shot.
03:56Like, you just spit on me, man.
03:58Yeah.
03:58You hurl bodily fluids at me right now.
04:01When you punch somebody in the groin, at least you're treating them as a human.
04:04If you spit on them, you're treating them like they're subhuman.
04:07You're treating them like the ground, basically.
04:09I wouldn't, you wouldn't, yeah.
04:11Can you imagine, like, spitting on an animal or something?
04:13No.
04:14Even that's too much.
04:15Yes.
04:15So, and you would never do that to a, you'd never do that to a human.
04:19Right, right.
04:19Whereas I go around punching animals in the nuts all the time.
04:22Right.
04:23And he says anything.
04:23It's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a discipline is what it
04:27is.
04:27It's a discipline.
04:31Oh, PETA is going to hate our show.
04:33So, so Jamar Chase issued an apology.
04:36I'm not going to read the whole thing because it's a little lengthy for reading it on the
04:40radio.
04:41Here's what I found interesting, Seth.
04:43I'm going to read one paragraph from it here.
04:46I want to personally apologize.
04:48Now, let me back up.
04:49Jamar Chase spit on Jalen Ramsey, for those who don't know, in the Steelers-Bengals game
04:54a couple of weeks ago.
04:55So those are the two individuals that were involved in this.
04:58And Jalen Ramsey, appropriately, went insane.
05:00I thought Mike Tomlin had a, had a great answer when a couple of days later, he was asked
05:07about the spitting incident.
05:08And he said, I don't want somebody, if one, if someone spits on one of my players, my advice
05:13to them, they asked, what would your advice be to Jalen Ramsey?
05:15You know, when you get spit on like that, and Mike Tomlin said, do what comes naturally.
05:19I thought it was a great answer.
05:21And what came naturally for Jalen Ramsey was to start beating up Jamar Chase.
05:26This, I'm going to read one paragraph out of this apology, and it's, keep in mind, this
05:31is a, an apology of roughly eight or nine short paragraphs.
05:36Yeah.
05:37I will personally apologize to everyone within the Pittsburgh Steelers organization.
05:42I let my emotions in the moment get the better of me.
05:46I can only hope and trust, you know, none of a, none of it represents who I am, not as
05:51a competitor, teammate, or person.
05:52And that is the closest he got to apologizing to the person he spit on.
05:59Jalen Ramsey's name is not mentioned one time in this apology here.
06:03Yeah.
06:03I read, I read through this.
06:05Well, I scanned through this three times.
06:07I read it.
06:07I literally, literally read it four times to make sure I wasn't getting upset about something
06:13that actually happened.
06:14Yeah.
06:15I think that's a, and that goes to speak back to, okay, why exactly did Jamar Chase feel
06:20like he had to spit on him?
06:21It's probably goes deeper than just normal in-game stuff.
06:24Uh, and we know that Jalen Ramsey can get under people's skin.
06:27Yes.
06:28So he apologized to everybody in the Pittsburgh Steelers organization, which does include
06:33Jalen Ramsey.
06:34So it's like kind of a Venn diagram apology or something.
06:37That let me, let me, let me, let me contextualize.
06:42Let me contextualize this.
06:43Yeah.
06:43Chris Boswell, the kicker, got the same apology as Jalen Ramsey.
06:47The same level of apology.
06:48The head scout for the Northeast region for the Pittsburgh Steelers got the same apology
06:56as Jalen Ramsey got from Jamar Chase.
06:59Well, plus remember, he also apologized to his own teammates and the fans and every, he basically
07:06opened it up to human beings in general.
07:09I would like to apologize to society at large, but not specifically the person that, uh, even
07:16though that person that I spit on is a member of society at large.
07:20I do not want to single him out.
07:22I need to say, I need to apologize to everybody.
07:24I'll be honest with you, Seth.
07:25I was a little upset about this.
07:26That Jalen Ramsey didn't get an apology in here.
07:28And I don't know why, cause I'm not a huge Jalen Ramsey fan, but now that you, now that
07:32you frame it that way, that you and I got an apology out of this.
07:37I consider myself a fan of Jamar Chase.
07:40It's fun to watch him play when they're not playing the Texans.
07:43I like watching Jamar Chase.
07:44He's on two of my fantasy teams.
07:46I'm a huge fan of Jamar Chase.
07:48So do you accept his apology?
07:49You know what?
07:50I think I do.
07:50You do.
07:51Okay.
07:51I think I do.
07:52Yeah.
07:52But also with a little bit of like, Hey, Jamar, you know, maybe, maybe also apologize to
07:57Jalen Ramsey.
07:57A little bit by name.
07:58I know you already, I know you already covered all the bases, but maybe, uh, maybe by name.
08:02But even more than that, try not to get suspended next time.
08:06Okay.
08:06Cause I really could have used you last week in my fantasy matchups.
08:09It's funny because other than that, he kind of goes off every item on the checklist
08:15of the steps for a good apology.
08:17Yeah.
08:18He didn't make excuses.
08:20He specifically said what I did was wrong.
08:22The circumstances don't matter.
08:24So it's not like he tried to explain away or say why it was this or that.
08:29Um, yeah, the passion for the game is no excuse.
08:32There's zero place in our sport or in life for that level of disrespect.
08:36And yet I feel no need to apologize to Jalen Ramsey himself for spitting on a little short.
08:45Now, someone says this on the text page.
08:46The fact that you are comparing the two, I'm assuming the spitting and the nut shot, is awfully pathetic.
08:54What's the fact that you, sir or ma'am, the fact that you, I think he, no, I don't think he's calling us pathetic.
09:02I think he's saying like, it's pathetic that we're in this, uh, this circumstance.
09:06That we need to be discussing this.
09:08Yeah.
09:08Okay.
09:08That's the way I'll choose to interpret it.
09:10Me too.
09:10It couldn't possibly be that that's the most annoying person on earth.
09:13Uh, that, that couldn't possibly be, there's no way that would be, cause that's the only other alternative, uh, that, okay, man, I can't believe we're in this state or whatever.
09:24Uh, listen, sir or ma'am, you're listening to a sports radio show.
09:28If we're going to find it, just show me something that can't be power.
09:33Okay.
09:33Yeah.
09:34You will get a power ranking.
09:35All right.
09:36Oh, you know, we'll go through various measures of disrespect and power rank them.
09:41I don't know what you're here for or why you're listening.
09:44If not, maybe you just stumbled onto us on your way over to smooth jazz, you little gutless punk.
