Thousands of Darwin residents were without power as the Top End cleaned up after tropical cyclone Fina. The category three system carved a path north of the NT capital on Saturday leaving a trail of debris in its wake.

00:00Back to school for some, as Darwin starts to clean up.
00:07Overnight we had crews out around the clock making sure that we got schools back online
00:13ready to get kids in classrooms.
00:15This Darwin primary school among nine closed today due to damage,
00:20with hopes all but three top-end schools will reopen for students tomorrow.
00:25We're resilient as a community, we all pull together.
00:28It's been nearly 48 hours without power for this father and son,
00:33but they're getting by with do-it-yourself know-how.
00:37You drag out all your camping gear, you drag out your camp cooker.
00:42Their biggest fear during FINA? Missing the cricket.
00:46We were scared we were going to miss out but we decided we'd do the probably not so smart decision
00:50and use the last of our phone battery to stream the ashes.
00:54They're among around 6,000 residents still without power.
00:58That important work though of restoring power to homes is incredibly critical,
01:03as people begin to tire of, of course, living in that situation.
01:07Disaster relief funding to be made available for some of those hit hard by FINA.
01:13I'm among the thousands of people who have gone without power since Cyclone FINA.
01:18While it hasn't been the worst thing in the world, we've had to lose a lot of food
01:22and it's hardly ideal sleeping without ceiling fans in the steamy Darwin conditions.
01:27But there's something about this city that people seem to be able to just pull together when times are tough.
01:33Neighbours have brought over food for us to sharing, so great community vibe in the ANT.
