00:00According to multiple NFL insiders, the Giants are firing defensive coordinator Shane Bowen after another defensive implosion.
00:08Bowen's defense was considered a liability and statistically one of the worst defenses in the NFL.
00:15Sunday's 34-27 overtime loss to the Detroit Lions, the Giants held a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter,
00:21but they still ended up losing, and that was pretty much on par with how this season has gone to this point.
00:29The Giants' defense gave up 17 unanswered points, including an 81-yard touchdown drive capped by a Jameer Gibbs 49-yard score.
00:39Now, Gibbs then scored on a 69-yard overtime touchdown run, and that was with star nose tackle Dexter Lawrence not even on the field for the play.
00:48The Lions' loss marked the fourth time this season Bowen's group blew a fourth quarter lead, and the fifth time they blew a two-score lead on the road.
00:57The loss also officially eliminated the Giants from the playoffs as the NFL's first team out.
01:04Now, statistically, the Giants' defense ranks 22nd in passing yards allowed, 31st in total yards,
01:11and is the last in the NFL in run defense, giving up 5.5 yards per attempt.
01:17Interim head coach Mike Kafka is going to speak to the media about the loss and, of course, the firing.
