Glove hurts, met shockingly dumped fan favorite Nimmo and deal for Simeon, a defensive whiz.
00:06
Look guys, we all know what Brendan Nimmo meant to the organization and of course the fan base,
00:11
but Amazons, I need you to get ready and get out of your feelings because I think that this is going to be
00:16
the first of many strictly business decisions that are going to be made by David Stearns this offseason.
00:22
Now we can respect a core group of players and we can fall in love with their personalities
00:28
and their personal production during the time that they're with an organization.
00:32
But the bottom line is, in professional sports, when you ain't winning, changes are going to get made.
00:38
And Brendan Nimmo is or now was a part of a core group of guys that they just ain't been getting it done lately, consistently.
00:46
We say it all the time in the locker room as players, IJB, it's just business.
00:51
First it's Nimmo, now brace yourselves for some other fan favors to be dealt.
00:55
Now, bringing in Marcus Simeon means that they're probably going to part ways with Jeff McNeil,
01:00
who plays second base, but maybe not.
01:02
He can play in the outfield.
01:04
Edwin Diaz, we love the trumpets, but if you're David Stearns,
01:07
are you going to give four or five years to a closer who turns 32 during spring training?
01:12
And of course, there's the whole Pete Alonso situation.
01:15
Now I think Alonso stays because you can't deal away all of the fan favorites,
01:20
but he is a liability on defense.
01:23
If Pete's willing to make the move to DH, maybe he stays.
01:26
When you remove all of the emotion and you sit back and you analyze this trade,
01:31
moving Brendan Nimmo was the right thing to do to not only shake up the core,
01:36
but to refresh it as well.
01:37
And it also gives you a chance to go after Cal Tucker or maybe even Cody Bellinger in free agency.
01:43
Plus, you're bringing in a guy in Marcus Simeon,
01:45
who just won his second career gold glove, recorded seven outs above average,
01:50
which placed him in the league's 92nd percentile for range.
01:53
And he's also rated among one of the game's best base runners.
01:56
No brainer.
01:57
If you woke up upset about Nimmo getting dealt,
01:59
just remember this team, this core has to be built to beat the Dodgers.
02:05
Get out your feelings.
02:06
It's just business.
