00:00Allow me to analyze the Phoenix Suns' important win. Now, maybe it's because they were playing
00:05the San Antonio Spurs, but a lot of what happened in Sunday's 111-102 victory really shows the
00:12foundational progress the Suns have made. It shows their commitment to their new style of
00:17basketball. Here's the key thing. The Suns started the game shooting terribly. As a team,
00:23and their star players individually, they just couldn't get the ball to fall. But this didn't
00:28shake their confidence. They kept shooting because they believe in their system. There was also a
00:34lack of energy, especially on defense, in the first half. Their coach, Jordan Ott, even said after the
00:41game that their defense wasn't up to par. But this is what good teams do. They figure it out. They
00:47raise their level of play when it matters most. Coach Ott said the players could feel it during the
00:53game that things weren't quite right. It's a long season with 82 games. It's a Sunday afternoon.
00:59You can find excuses. But what matters is the win or loss at the end of the night. They felt it.
01:05They knew it. And they came out with the right mindset to fix it. So how did they stay in the
01:10game while shooting so poorly? They created extra opportunities. They grabbed offensive rebounds,
01:17and they took care of the basketball. At one point in the early second quarter, Phoenix had taken
01:2216 more shots than San Antonio. Because of that, they were only down by 7 points when with their
01:27poor energy, they probably should have been down by 20 or more. Devin Booker talked about this saying,
01:33we shot it terribly and we're still in a good position. It's going to be like that. Some nights,
01:38even in the playoffs, there are games where you can't make a shot and you still have to find a way to
01:43win. Eventually, their shots did start falling. In the third quarter, they shot an incredible 61%
01:50while holding the Spurs to just 30%. That's when they finally took control of the game.
01:56They went on a 16,3 run in the middle of the third and started the fourth quarter on a 10,4 run,
02:02building a lead that got as high as 12 points. Now let's look at those key margins that won them
02:07the game. They ended up taking 20 more shot attempts than the Spurs. This was huge, especially since San
02:13Antonio made 17 more free throws. They forced turnovers. With a 19,6 advantage and points off
02:19turnovers. They also had a 19,16 edge and second chance points, even though the Spurs actually
02:25grabbed more offensive rebounds, 14-11. With this win, the Suns' record is now 11,6. They've gone 10,2
02:32after starting the season 1,4, which puts them in a top-six playoff spot in the Western Conference.
02:39A big reason for this turnaround is that several players are performing at their very best right
02:43now. A major story is Jordan Goodwin. Two years ago, he looked uncomfortable here, but now he's
02:51been a revelation off the bench, with four players injured. Grayson Allen, Ryan Dunn, Jalen Green,
02:58and Rashear Fleming. Goodwin started this game. He produced 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists,
03:04while starting the game defending the Spurs star, De'Aaron Fox. He's a 6'2 guard, but back in college
03:10at St. Louis, he had the third, most double, doubles in the entire country. The coaching staff
03:14is fully encouraging him to crash the boards and create chaos, which he's done all year.
03:19Booker praised him, saying, he has a knack for the basketball. He's always in the right place at the
03:24right time. He defends at a high level. He makes the hustle plays. That we need. On the offensive end,
03:31someone besides Booker had to create shots. Dylan Brooks took on that role, and even though it took
03:37him 24 shots to score 25 points, he wasn't discouraged. After missing 7 of his first 8
03:43attempts, Booker himself started slowly, missing many shots early, but finished 7, for 18, for 24
03:50points. He also took care of the ball well, dishing out 7 assists with only 2 turnovers. Another player,
03:57Colin Gillespie, started 1 for 6 but finished 5 for 7, ending with 15 points off the bench,
04:03plus 6 assists and 0 turnovers. It's important to note that the Spurs, 11,5, were missing several
04:10key players. Victor Wembenyama, Stefan Castle, Dylan Harper, and Jordan McLaughlin. For the Spurs,
04:18De'Aaron Fox scored 26 points, but he only had 3 assists. He wasn't able to get the rest of the
04:24offense flowing, and the lack of fast break opportunities in the second half, really
04:29slowed them down. Now, looking ahead, there was an interesting strategic decision. Mark Williams
04:35played 29 minutes on Sunday, since they have a back, 2, back game on Monday. This likely means,
04:41he will sit out against the Houston Rockets. This is a tough choice. Houston is a historically great
04:47rebounding team with huge lineups, so you'd want Williams for that matchup. However, the Suns' odds,
04:53of winning that game, are slim, even if he plays, given how well Houston has been playing. On the
04:59other hand, San Antonio's smaller big men allowed Williams a chance to have a big game, so maybe the
05:04Suns felt. They could manage without him against the Spurs. Coach Ott wouldn't completely rule
05:09Williams out for Monday, saying it depends on how he recovers from Sunday's game. He also wouldn't
05:13specify how much of the decision is based on the matchup versus medical factors. Monday's game was
05:19also supposed to mark Kevin Durant's return to Phoenix. However, Durant will miss the Rockets'
05:24next two games, due to a family matter, Booker said. I hope everything is okay with his family first,
05:30but yeah, I'd love to match up with him. That meeting will now have to wait, until at least
05:35December 5th in Houston. Jalen Green will also miss the game, but Dylan Brooks will play, and is
05:41especially excited for it. Booker said with a grin. Yeah, I'm sure he will be. He's geared up for
05:47every game, though. Brooks confirmed. There's something extra about this matchup, saying,
05:52for sure, gonna get my rest, eat my Wheaties, and can't wait to see I'm tomorrow. I'm his Rockets'
05:57head coach, I'm Udoka. When asked which Rockets' teammate he was most excited to face, Brooks seemed
06:03to take a shot at Houston's defense, which is his specialty. He said, it's whoever is going to be
06:08guarding me in the beginning. I'm intrigued to see who they have guarding me. We're going to have to
06:12figure out against that zone, what to do with it, because they're not going to play man with us,
06:17so we're going to see a lot of zone. What's your prediction for how the Suns will adjust to this
06:22defensive challenge in their next game?
