00:00To fully appreciate what happened, we need to dissect the Phoenix Suns' incredible comeback.
00:05It was a victory that felt impossible, but this team is slowly training us to expect the
00:10unbelievable. They pulled off a miraculous 114-113 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
00:15How miraculous! They were down by 8 points with only 50 seconds left on the clock,
00:20and they did it without their star, Devin Booker, who had fouled out, and without Dylan Brooks for
00:25the final possession, Booker himself was in disbelief after the game, saying,
00:31It's crazy. I wasn't even a part of it. I kinda blacked out. I'm gonna have to watch it back to
00:36break down everything that happened that quick. Now, let's start at the very end and work our way
00:40back to see how this all happened. The Suns were down by 1 point with 12 seconds left. With Booker
00:46out, Brooks fouled out, and other players like Grayson Allen and Jalen Green injured, the coaches
00:51had to go deep into their playbook to decide who would take the final shot. The choice was Colin
00:56Gillespie. Suns head coach Jordan Ott confirmed this, stating, He was the first tonight, referring
01:01to the team's offensive options. The play worked perfectly. Gillespie got a favorable matchup,
01:07drove past his defender, and made a 9-foot, 1-footed jumper to take the lead. But the game wasn't over.
01:14With 6.4 seconds left, the Suns showed incredible teamwork on defense. Minnesota's Anthony Edwards
01:20got the ball and immediately found himself swarmed by two, and then three. Suns defenders. He passed
01:26to Julius Randle. Phoenix's Ryan Dunn smartly defended against a drive, forcing Randle to
01:31take a sidestep 3-point attempt, which missed badly, thanks in part to a late defensive help
01:36from Royce O'Neal. Game over. No one in the Suns locker room was surprised that Gillespie
01:41was the one to make the shot.
01:43I wasn't really shocked because Dylan fouled out and Book had fouled out already, Gillespie
01:48said. Booker agreed, noting, We seen that same recipe a lot this summer. No surprise.
01:54Poise. Just his whole demeanor. He's taken advantage of his opportunity to the fullest.
01:59We're all rallying behind him, and he's just a dog. So, how did the Suns even get into a
02:04position for that game winner? Let's rewind the final 68 seconds. The Suns were down by
02:098 points. Here's the sequence of events that led to their 9-0 run to finish the game.
02:13With 68 seconds left, a broken play led to a missed 3-pointer by Brooks. Fortunately,
02:20the Suns got the offensive rebound, and Royce O'Neal scored a putback with 49 seconds left,
02:25113-105. On the ensuing inbound pass, Anthony Edwards turned the ball over after a deflection
02:32by Colin Gillespie. This led to an open Jordan Goodwin 3-pointer, 113-108.
02:38Just like that, it was a one-possession game, 113-110, with 43 seconds left. Edwards then set
02:49up Julius Randle for an open 3, but Randle passed it up, drove into traffic, and had the ball stripped
02:54by Dylan Brooks. This sparked a fast-break layup for Jordan Goodwin, 113-112. Minnesota then inbounded
03:02the ball to Randle, whose pass was tipped by Goodwin. Royce O'Neal grabbed the loose ball and had a clear
03:08path to the basket, but his layup was blocked by Jaden McDaniels. However, a whistle had already
03:14been blown for an offensive foul on Brooks for clearing the lane. His sixth foul, fouling him
03:19out of the game, this was the first pause in the action after a frantic minute of play.
03:24The call was upheld. Somehow, Minnesota was still up by one point with 19 seconds left when Edwards
03:32was fouled. Shockingly, Edwards, who had been brilliant all game, missed both free throws,
03:38setting the stage for Colin Gillespie's game winner. While Minnesota's collapse was sudden,
03:42the Suns' path to that eight-point deficit was a slower, more painful process. The Suns started
03:48the game incredibly hot, shooting 20 for 32, 62, 5 percent, and leading by as many as 18 points,
03:55but a regression was coming, and it was harsh. Led by an uncharacteristically poor performance from
04:00Devin Booker, the Suns fell apart. They couldn't string together a good offensive possession,
04:05resulting in a flurry of turnovers and bad shots. Minnesota went on a 28-9 run in less than eight
04:11minutes during the second half to take a six-point lead. Anthony Edwards was on fire during this
04:16stretch and stayed hot until the mid-fourth quarter. With Minnesota up by six and just over
04:22five minutes left, Booker led an 8-0 Suns' run to take a two-point lead. He set up a Royce O'Neal
04:29three-pointer, hit a difficult mid-range shot, made a free throw, and set up a Mark Williams floater.
04:35But on the very next possession, Booker fouled out while battling for a rebound with Rudy Gobert.
04:40There was initial confusion, as the foul was mistakenly shown on the scoreboard as Brooke's
04:44sixth foul. The Suns' coaches pointed this out. The call was corrected, and Coach Ott wisely saved
04:50his time out. As he left the court, Booker received a technical foul. After Minnesota's Dante
04:55DiVincenzo made the technical free throw, he hit an open three-pointer. Brooks answered with a
05:00mid-range shot, but then Anthony Edwards was fouled on a three-point attempt and made all three free
05:05throws. He then set up a Jaden McDaniels jumper. A few more free throws eventually built the
05:10Timberwolves' lead back up to that eight-point margin with 68 seconds left. For Booker, this was
05:17arguably one of the worst games of his career when considering the stakes. He shot just four of 18
05:22from the field and tied his career high with nine turnovers. They were doing a good job keeping a
05:28body on me at all times up in pick-and-rolls and they were playing it aggressive, Booker said of
05:32his struggles. Those nine turnovers were part of a total of 28 for the Phoenix team. On the other side,
05:39Anthony Edwards scored a game-high 41 points on 14 of 24 shooting. Despite this being his first loss in
05:45his last five games at his home court, his recent scoring performances there have been 36, 40, 33,
05:5244, and now 41 points. For the Suns, Dylan Brooks led the team with 22 points. He set a physical tone
06:01from the start, determined not to let the Timberwolves push them around as they had in past
06:06matchups. That's why they made that trade because of games like this, Brooks said. We gotta find a way
06:11to have that dog, that mentality. I feel like that's why they brought me here for these type of
06:15games. Yeah, they were talking too early. And I love that. When guys get too confident, and once the
06:21pressure starts heating up, their eyes start getting big and they start getting scared. Brooks
06:25specifically mentioned seeing this fear in Julius Randle, who finished with 20 points and five
06:30turnovers. Six Suns players scored in double figures. Dylan Brooks, 22. Colin Gillespie, 20. Mark
06:37Williams, 19. Royce O'Neal, 16. Jordan Goodwin, 13. And Devin Booker. So what moment from this
06:44unbelievable comeback do you think was the most crucial?
