00:01Alright Suns fans, let's talk about that tough one on Thursday. The first game back from the
00:05All-Star break is always a tricky spot, and honestly, the 121-94 loss to the San Antonio
00:11Spurs was about as rough as it could get. Coming into the night, the hope was that we'd finally
00:15see the full group on the floor together. A rare sight this season, with Dylan Brooks serving his
00:20one-game suspension, the rest of the regular rotation was projected to be available. But then,
00:25the injury bug that has plagued this season struck again even before tip-off.
00:28Grayson Allen sprained his right ankle during the morning shoot-around. Then,
00:32just a few minutes into the game, we saw Devin Booker head to the locker room after aggravating
00:37his right hip. It happened with just under six minutes left in the first quarter. He was working
00:42around a screen, and after a turnover, it was clear he couldn't move right. He called for a sub and
00:48headed to the back. He did return briefly in the second quarter, trying to give it a go,
00:53but he was moving at a fraction of his normal speed and just wasn't himself.
00:57After another quick trip to the locker room, the team officially ruled him out just after halftime.
01:03Despite all that chaos, the Suns were only down by five after the first quarter,
01:09showing some real fight. But without their two starting guards and Allen, the offense inevitably
01:14struggled. More concerning, though, was the defensive effort. Since mid-January, we've seen the defense
01:21slip a bit. We were 19th in defensive rating since January 19th, and that number has dropped to 25th
01:27in February. Now, teams can coast a little heading into the break. But this is the time of year where
01:32good defense is non-negotiable for wins. This team's success has been built on that end of the floor.
01:37Thursday, the Spurs just out-physicled us, their guards. De'Aaron Fox finished with 15 points and
01:448 assists, and Stephon Castle had 20 points, constantly got downhill, and without a reliable
01:50rim protector behind them, we had no answer. Even with the strategy to put a smaller defender on
01:55Victor Wembenyama, who still put up 17 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks, San Antonio's guards
02:03dictated everything. The only real positive was Josh Green. He started and played 26 minutes,
02:09looking more like himself than he has. Since his son's debut, he finished with a team-high 26 points,
02:15with 11 of those coming in that gritty first quarter. It's also another tough break for Grayson
02:20Allen. This marks his fifth separate stint out due to injury this season. He's dealt with a quad
02:25contusion, an illness, and recurring issues with that right knee. Just when he was finally off the
02:31injury report, a tweaked right ankle at shoot-around sidelines him again. Dylan Brooks will be back for
02:36the next game. But it's worth noting his situation. He's now one technical foul away from another
02:41suspension for every pair he gets, and he's also two flagrant foul points away from a potential
02:45suspension as well. So, looking at the bigger picture, it feels like this team just can't catch
02:51a break. With so many key pieces in and out of the lineup, the offense hasn't had the consistent
02:56time it needs to build chemistry. We've relied on our defense to carry us. But if that slips and the
03:01offense is still finding its rhythm, what do you think is the biggest key for this group to finally
03:06find some consistency down this final stretch of the season?
