00:00K! K-I-D! K-I-D-T-R-I-C-K-S! Kid Tricks!
00:27You can fool my eyes, but don't mess with my mind.
00:30Kid Tricks!
00:31You can fool my eyes, but don't mess with my mind.
00:34Kid Tricks!
00:36Kid Tricks!
00:38Kid Tricks!
00:40Kid Tricks!
00:44Now, you know what I have in my hand?
00:46I have a piece of dental floss.
00:48Yeah, this dental floss I use on my cows, on my ranch.
00:51You'll notice it has two ends, one on each.
00:53And it goes from one end to the other.
00:55It doesn't stop in the middle like the cheap ones do.
00:57Now, it's not actually a piece of dental floss.
00:59It's a piece of rope, right?
01:00And there's all kinds of neat knots you can tie with a piece of rope.
01:03This one's called the cowboy knot,
01:05because it looks like you're roping a cow.
01:07Is that pretty good? Huh?
01:09This next one is called the removable knot.
01:13The reason you call it the removable knot is anytime you want,
01:15you just remove the knot, right? Huh?
01:19The next one you've used to tie your shoes, this is called the what?
01:23Bow knot, right?
01:24But what happens when the ends slip through the loops?
01:26You get what's called the slip knot,
01:28where the rope slips down the rope,
01:30the knot slips down the rope,
01:31so it eventually becomes an evaporated knot and disappears, right?
01:35Now we come to the instant knot.
01:37We call it the instant knot,
01:38because at any time we want it's tied in an instant, right?
01:41The instant knot.
01:42Instant knot complicated version.
01:44Instant knot complicated version,
01:46because this time you get two knots at the same time.
01:52Now we'll combine the two together.
01:54Instant knot and the removable knot simultaneously.
01:57We'll put the removable knot at the bottom.
01:59Watch it at the bottom.
02:00Here it goes.
02:01One, two, three, go.
02:03And it jumps from the bottom to the top.
02:08Remember the story about William Tell?
02:10Remember William Tell?
02:11What did he do?
02:12He shot the apple off his son's head with the bow and arrow.
02:15Watch.
02:16Ding!
02:17The bow and arrow.
02:18How's that?
02:19William Tell knot.
02:21And the next one is called the figure eight knot.
02:23The reason we call it the figure eight knot is because at any time it looks like a what?
02:26A figure eight.
02:27A figure eight.
02:28Figure eight, complicated version,
02:29because this time we're going to tie it without letting go of the ends.
02:32And it looks like this.
02:33Figure eight knot, complicated version.
02:35And like the figure eight on the ice in the springtime, it melts away.
02:39Right?
02:40Now we'll add a little ring to the trick.
02:43Watch the ring.
02:44The ring is made out of metal.
02:46There's a hole, but the hole is right there.
02:48You'll notice there's no other hole around the ring.
02:50We take the ring, hold it at the bottom.
02:52One, two, three.
02:53And it instantly knots itself on the bottom of the rope.
02:56Right?
02:57Now we pull the knot to the top.
02:59Someone say go.
03:00Go.
03:01Go.
03:02And it jumps off the rope.
03:03Huh?
03:04Pretty good.
03:05Same trick, complicated version, but this time we'll throw a knot around the rope.
03:08Watch.
03:09One, two, three.
03:10Boom!
03:11And it goes right through the center of the knot without untying the knot.
03:15Is that pretty good?
03:16Whenever I do this trick, everyone says, how does he do it?
03:21My wife says, who cares how he does it?
03:24And my mother says, why does he do it?
03:27Watch.
03:28One, two, down and off.
03:31Now everyone wants to know, how are you able to get the knot to go right through the ring?
03:38And it works like this.
03:39With the rope held below the ring, there's a soft spot on the ring that's right there.
03:44Look.
03:45We hold it right there.
03:46This is what it looks like from the back.
03:48Watch the soft spot go right through the center of the rope.
03:52Just like that.
03:54Huh?
03:55Fun.
03:56And now, we're going to learn when a trick is not a trick.
04:04Right?
04:05Hey, that was a lot of fun, wasn't it?
04:09Hi, I'm Danny Corum.
04:11Can anyone be tricked?
04:12You bet.
04:13Right now, you think you see me talking to you.
04:15Well, that's correct.
04:16Sort of.
04:17You see, I'm really over here.
04:19You are watching me on what is called a monitor, which is kind of like your television at home,
04:23while I was really sitting up here talking to you.
04:26So, can anyone be tricked?
04:27Sure.
04:28Now, here are a couple of important questions.
04:30First, is it okay to be tricked?
04:32And second, what is the difference between a good and a bad trick?
04:35Let's go to a friend of mine's Chinese restaurant and find out.
04:38I really like Chinese food.
04:55It's a favorite with our family.
04:57Carrie likes the egg rolls.
04:59Luke and Eric devour the wontons.
05:01And my wife, Sandy, likes anything she doesn't have to cook.
05:05It's amazing how my good friend, Kathryn Liu, who owns the restaurant, can prepare so many
05:10different kinds of Chinese food at the same time.
05:13Kathryn, if you've got a $1 bill, Danny's got a real treat for you.
05:17Yes, I have a $1 bill right here.
05:19Now, you don't mind me using it?
05:20Not at all.
05:21You have to watch real carefully.
05:23You can see there's nothing else in my hands except the $1 bill.
05:27We fold it in half once like this, fold it in half again like this, and then one more
05:33one more time like this, and then I say the magic words, tiki, tiki, and you won't believe
05:38it, but it's changed to a $100 bill.
05:42Wow!
05:43$100 bill!
05:44Can't believe that!
05:46Now, was it okay for me to trick Mrs. Liu?
05:50Sure it was.
05:51First, she knew that what I was doing was a trick, and second, I didn't do anything wrong
05:55or evil.
05:56You see, when I do a trick as a magician, it's okay because I tell everyone it's a trick.
06:00That way they know it's a trick.
06:01Well, let's imagine I use a trick for another reason when I go to pay my bill.
06:06Here's the $4 and change.
06:07$4, thank you.
06:09No, I think you made a mistake.
06:10I only have one, two, three dollars.
06:13I think you owe me one more dollar.
06:15Now, let's stop and see what really happened.
06:18When I counted the money she gave me, I secretly held back one of the dollars using what magicians
06:23call sleight of hand.
06:25See how I hold one back?
06:27Now I'm not doing a trick for fun.
06:29I'm stealing.
06:30What you've just seen was only acting.
06:33See, I didn't really steal the money from Mrs. Liu.
06:36She and I only pretended that I was paying the bill and that I was stealing a dollar from her
06:40so you could see the difference between a good and a bad trick.
06:43Now, the first trick was not only a good trick because I did it well,
06:46it was a good trick because I was doing something good for someone else and they knew it was a trick.
06:51No one can really change a dollar bill to a $100 bill and there's no such thing as magic words.
06:57It's only a trick, a good trick.
07:00The second trick though is a bad or evil trick because Mrs. Liu has tricked out of her money.
07:05So a bad trick is when you use a trick to do something that's wrong like stealing.
07:10Well, we know that there are good tricks and bad tricks.
07:13So tell me, when is a trick not a trick?
07:16Well, a trick is not a trick is when it becomes a lie.
07:19In other words, when you use a trick to do something that's wrong like looking at someone's paper during a test
07:24and tricking the teacher so she doesn't see you or tricking someone out of money which is stealing.
07:30Those are the kinds of tricks we're all supposed to stay away from because they're wrong and dishonest.
07:35Most people don't know it, but some of my favorite good tricks are those I keep in this little case.
07:40Each compartment holds cards, coins, strings, pins, and other things you can find around the house.
07:46I like to do these tricks with people right next to me.
07:49The tricks you're about to see will look exactly the same as if you are really there.
07:54There are no camera tricks used at any time.
08:01Thanks.
08:02Now, you know when a magician learns how to do tricks, the first thing you have to learn is to use your what?
08:08Fingers? Your hands, right?
08:10You have to learn how to use your hands.
08:12And you have to do various types of exercises.
08:14And I do what's called rallying the fingers will.
08:16Put your fingers together like this.
08:18Press them together a few times like that, right?
08:21It stretches them out and then go like this a couple times.
08:23And then shake them real hard like that a couple times.
08:26Now if you stop, it kind of tingles a little bit, doesn't it?
08:28Right?
08:29Now, Synth, you know what I have right here?
08:31I have a globe.
08:33It's a pencil sharpener, but on top is a globe.
08:36And I wonder what's inside the globe.
08:38Why don't you go ahead and take a look?
08:39What do you see in there?
08:40Four and half dollars.
08:41Four and half dollars.
08:42Would you take them out?
08:43Go ahead and pull them out.
08:44Very good.
08:45And we'll place the globe back together again and place it back on the easel like this.
08:50And leave it in front.
08:52Now, you know what we do, Will?
08:54When we learn how to do various types of what we call manipulations with coins,
08:58the first one we learn is what we call walking the coin.
09:01I was 13 when I learned this.
09:03It's walking the coin real slowly, walking the coin.
09:06This is called walking and letting him skip.
09:09That's called walking and letting him skip.
09:11Walking and letting him skip.
09:13This is called walking and letting him take the subway.
09:16See, he walks underneath.
09:17Walking and then taking the subway and walking underneath.
09:21And when you get better, you do what's called jogging the coin.
09:24You let him take off a little bit.
09:25See?
09:26That's called jogging the coin.
09:27Then you use more coins.
09:30You know, because nobody wants to see you do tricks with just one coin.
09:32So you use some more.
09:34And we have four and half dollars.
09:36And we're going to do what's called flipping the coin.
09:38This is flipping the coin.
09:40See?
09:41You just pull one over the other.
09:43Then you can flip more than one.
09:44There's three at one time.
09:46Now, one that's real difficult.
09:48This is called peeling the grape.
09:50Peeling the grape.
09:51You pull out the middle two.
09:52Let this one slide out.
09:53Come around.
09:54And we put it back together again.
09:56One more time.
09:57Peeling the grape.
09:58You pull this one out.
09:59Bring it around.
10:00And put it back together again.
10:02This next one is called spitting out the seed.
10:06Look.
10:07I'll do it one more time.
10:09Slowly.
10:10Spitting out the seed.
10:12Just like that.
10:13It comes out slowly.
10:14And finally, we call this downright outrageous.
10:19Is that pretty good?
10:20Is that good?
10:21Yeah.
10:22Good.
10:23Now, we're going to use four cards and cover the four coins.
10:28Look.
10:29We place a seven of spades here.
10:31We place a three of diamonds here.
10:33We take the king of hearts and seven of diamonds and cover those two cards.
10:36Now, watch.
10:37Here it goes.
10:38One, two, three.
10:39Hup.
10:40One more time.
10:41Ready?
10:42Hup.
10:43And the last one.
10:44We put it in the hand like this.
10:46Reach over here.
10:47Goes and appears right over there.
10:51What do you think?
10:52Is that a pretty good one?
10:55But the only problem is, see, you have how many coins?
10:58How many coins do you have?
10:59Four.
11:00You've got four coins and you've got four cards.
11:02When you're trying to watch all that with just two eyes, it gets confusing.
11:05So let's do the same thing, but we'll just use the two hands.
11:08Look.
11:09There goes the first one.
11:10Hup.
11:11There goes the next one.
11:12Hup.
11:13There's the next one.
11:14And the last one goes like this.
11:15Blow.
11:16And it goes from here to here.
11:20Isn't that pretty good?
11:22How would you like to learn how to do a trick like that?
11:25Now, these are not just ordinary half dollars.
11:27These were made in 1964 and they're all silver.
11:30Listen.
11:31Hear the pretty ring?
11:33Listen.
11:34Now, listen to this one.
11:35This was made in 1979.
11:36After 64, they started putting copper in the coin.
11:39See?
11:40Listen to the ring.
11:41Which one would you rather use, Will?
11:43The all silver one, right?
11:46We're going to use two coins now.
11:48We're going to use the half a dollar and another coin.
11:50Now, this is made in another part of the world.
11:52This is a copper coin.
11:53This is made in England.
11:54You can see it's copper, right?
11:56And what I'm going to do is I'm going to ask you to put your hand out, right?
11:59Go ahead and put your hand out flat like this.
12:02Turn it up.
12:03We'll place the two coins in your hand.
12:05Turn your hand over.
12:06Reach in.
12:07Take one out.
12:08But don't look and see which one you take out.
12:10You got it?
12:11Now, which one did you select?
12:12The silver one.
12:13The silver one.
12:14Now, Will, if you'll put your hand out like this.
12:16And close your hand tight.
12:17Turn it over.
12:18Put your hands together.
12:19On the count of three, I want you to say the magic words,
12:22Aki, Aki.
12:23Reel out.
12:24One, two, three.
12:25Aki, Aki.
12:26Feel kind of weird, don't you, Will?
12:29Look.
12:30Slowly turn your hands over like this and open them.
12:33And now, Will, you have the copper one and you have the half a dollar.
12:37I think you deserve a big hand for that one.
12:39That was a great trick.
12:43Now, Cynthia, Cynthia, what I want you to do is to sign your initials across this label
12:48that I put on the front of this coin.
12:50Go ahead.
12:51Write your initials on the face of the coin.
12:53On the little label.
12:54You got it?
12:56So, you've written the initials CW.
12:59Right?
13:00So, you'd recognize that if you saw it again.
13:02We'll place the four coins together.
13:05Now, watch, Will.
13:06I'm going to place them in my hand like this.
13:08Ready?
13:09And then I make my move.
13:11No, Will.
13:12It's not over here.
13:14No, Cynthia.
13:15It's not over here.
13:17I wonder where in the world the coins are.
13:21Let's remove the globe from its axis.
13:24Go ahead.
13:25Remove the top.
13:26What do you find in there?
13:28What's in there?
13:29The silver dollars.
13:30The silver dollars.
13:31The half of dollars.
13:32Right, Will?
13:33Isn't that right?
13:34Take a look.
13:35Are those the half of dollars?
13:36Mm-hmm.
13:37Cynthia, would you do me a favor?
13:38Would you remove the half of dollars?
13:39Take them out.
13:40Put them on the table for us.
13:41Let's take a look and see if we can find your coin.
13:43There it is.
13:44Your coin with your initials, CW.
13:47Let's give Cynthia a big hand for that.
13:48All right.
13:49That was terrific.
13:53How do I do it?
13:54Now, that's what everyone wants to know.
13:56Dan, how do you do it?
13:57Well, in a few minutes, I'm going to teach you some great-looking tricks.
14:00But first, I want to show you some tricks that you can do for your friends that explain
14:04why we can be tricked in the first place.
14:07Each of us have five senses that help us to know what is going on around us.
14:11We have the sense of hearing to hear, sight so we can see, smell so we can smell, touch so
14:17we can feel, and taste so we can enjoy our food.
14:21Most of us never think about it, but each of our five senses can be tricked.
14:25Let's see how our sense of touch can be tricked.
14:28First, we'll use three glasses of water.
14:31One glass is filled with cold water and ice cubes.
14:33The middle glass is filled with warm water that is room temperature.
14:36And the third glass is filled with hot water.
14:39We have to test the water to be sure that no one gets burned.
14:43Now, two friends put one finger in the cold water and another in the hot water for three minutes.
14:48When the three minutes is up, they quickly put their fingers in the warm glass of water.
14:52Watch what happens.
14:54Okay, now, quick, put it in the middle glass.
14:57How does your finger feel?
14:59Hot.
15:00It feels real hot.
15:01How does yours feel?
15:02Cold.
15:03And this is room temperature water.
15:05It's the same temperature.
15:06So your sense of touch was tricked by the what?
15:09Cold water and the hot water, right?
15:11Mm-hmm.
15:12For the next trick that will fool both the sense of taste and smell, we'll use a red and
15:16a yellow apple with a slice of each that doesn't have any peel.
15:19And we'll also use a piece of water chestnut.
15:22It's a nut-like fruit and usually comes in a can that looks like this.
15:26Now, watch how we have some fun.
15:28Now, for this next one, we're going to use a red and a yellow apple.
15:31And I have a couple little pieces chipped out of each one.
15:34What I'd like you to do is first take a taste of the yellow apple.
15:37Taste it.
15:38Okay.
15:39And then swallow it.
15:41Now, taste the red one.
15:42All right.
15:43So there's a little bit of difference in taste, right?
15:45Mm-hmm.
15:46Now, close your eyes and hold your nose.
15:48I'm now giving Jeremy a piece of the water chestnut instead.
15:52It crunches just like an apple.
15:54Go ahead and chew it.
15:56And then swallow it.
15:57I'm going to hide two pieces so you don't know which one it took.
16:00Okay.
16:01Now, which one do you think it was?
16:03The red or the yellow apple?
16:04You can open your eyes.
16:05Um, the yellow.
16:07The yellow apple?
16:08No, I tricked you.
16:09See, actually, I took a piece of water chestnut.
16:12The reason your sense of taste was tricked was because of why?
16:16Because I held my nose and I couldn't smell.
16:18Right, like when you get a cold, you know, you can't taste your food.
16:20That was kind of tricky, wasn't it?
16:22Yes.
16:23Now, look, real quick.
16:24Which one is longer, the top or bottom line?
16:27The top.
16:28The top one looks longer.
16:29The top one looks longer?
16:30Actually, you see they're both the same length.
16:32And if you check it out and put a ruler next to each one, you see they're absolutely the
16:36same length.
16:37The reason your sense of vision was tricked is because, see these lines on the end?
16:41They go out and these on the bottom go in so it makes this one look longer.
16:45It's an optical illusion.
16:46For our last trick that will trick the sense of hearing, I want these students to guess what
16:51musical instrument I'm playing.
16:52Without lifting your head up and looking or peeking, I want you to tell me what musical instrument
16:57is playing.
16:58Drums!
16:59Now, how many of you think I was playing the drums?
17:00Let me see your hands.
17:01Okay, you can lift your heads up now.
17:02See, I was playing the what?
17:03Guitar!
17:04The guitar!
17:05See, the reason I tricked your sense of hearing is, you see, I took one string and I pulled
17:18it over the other like that.
17:20Then I do what's called a tremolo with my pick.
17:26And it makes it sound just like a snare drum.
17:29Anyone can be tricked because our senses can be tricked.
17:32Touch, taste, smell, sight, and hearing.
17:36And we'll see how our minds can be tricked as you learn some terrific tricks you can perform
17:41for your friends.
17:42Let's learn three simple tricks.
17:44And for the first one, I've asked Eric to do walking the coin.
17:47Remember how hard that was when I did that?
17:49Eric's only five, and he started learning this when he was four.
17:52Eric, would you mind doing that for us?
17:54Go ahead.
17:55Let's see you do it.
17:56Was it hard to do when you started?
17:58Yeah.
17:59Getting it under is the toughest part, isn't it, Eric?
18:01Mm-hmm.
18:02Eric's doing that real well.
18:04I was 13 before I learned.
18:05That's how hard the trick is.
18:06And Eric's doing it, and he's only, oh, you're what, five, right?
18:09Mm-hmm.
18:11Hey, that's great.
18:14I think Eric gets a hand for that.
18:16That was terrific.
18:17Would you mind doing the coin trick for Hannaway where you make the coin vanish?
18:20No.
18:21Would that be okay?
18:22Go ahead and do it for him.
18:24Blow.
18:26Go on.
18:27Where is it?
18:29In your ear.
18:31Boy, that was great, Eric.
18:32You did terrific.
18:33How did you do that?
18:34Would you like to learn how that's done?
18:35Yeah.
18:36Now, it's real simple.
18:37All you do is you take the nickel and put it between your second and third fingers like
18:41this.
18:42And do it with both hands.
18:44Then you ask somebody to blow.
18:46Go ahead and blow.
18:47And he blows.
18:48And then what you do is you open your hand, see so quick that they can't see it go behind
18:53your hand.
18:54It's like this.
18:55I'll do it a little more slowly, like that.
18:57See how it goes behind the hand?
18:59Now, when I want to pull it out of Hannaway's ear, I just reach forward and I go like this
19:06and I pull it right out of his ear.
19:09You going to have fun learning that trick?
19:11Yeah.
19:12Ah, great.
19:13Now, when I do this trick, I like to practice in front of a mirror.
19:15That way I can tell if I'm doing the trick right or not.
19:18But when Eric does the trick, he likes to go in the bathroom and look in the bathroom mirror
19:22to see if he's doing the trick right or not.
19:24Now, while Eric's in the bathroom, you know, practicing his trick, I'm going to teach you
19:27another trick with some pins.
19:29But you have to promise me two things.
19:31First, that you'll ask permission before using any large pins.
19:35And second, that you won't stick anybody with the pin.
19:38Is that a deal?
19:39You promise?
19:40Okay.
19:41Bobby, would you mind doing that trick for us?
19:42You have two pins, right?
19:43Two safety pins.
19:44Show us what that trick is.
19:45See how the pins are linked to the other pin.
19:48Now, watch.
19:50One, two, three.
19:53Boy, that was terrific, Bob.
19:54He did a great job.
19:56And Bobby's kind of a shy guy.
19:57You know, he's not real talkative.
19:59But that just shows you that anybody can learn to do a trick.
20:02You know, to show to friends or relatives or maybe somebody who's in a hospital who's
20:05kind of down.
20:06So let's learn how Bobby did that pin trick, okay?
20:08First, you hold this pin in your left hand between your forefinger and your thumb,
20:14so the opening is on top.
20:16Then you take this pin, push it through, link it on, grab the pin back in position right
20:22here.
20:23Now, all you have to do is, remember Bobby said, I'll bring the pin on top.
20:29He holds his fingers like this in the shape of an X.
20:33And then you go one, two, and on three you just pull hard.
20:39See?
20:40And it comes apart because this bar opens up and comes back up so fast that you can't
20:47see the pins on link.
20:48That's a pretty good trick, isn't it?
20:50Yeah.
20:51Now, it won't take you but a few minutes to learn how to do this trick.
20:54And now I want Jeannie to show us the best trick of all.
20:57And you're going to do the thieves and sheep for us trick, right?
21:00Right.
21:01This is the story of Farmer Brown and his six sheep.
21:05Farmer Brown had six sheep in the pin, and there were two thieves that wanted to steal
21:10Farmer Brown's sheep.
21:11So they started picking them up quickly one by one and loading them into the truck.
21:15And then all of a sudden they heard a rustling in the bushes, so they start putting them back
21:20in the pin one by one.
21:23And they turn around and they see that it's just a jackrabbit, so they start loading them
21:27back in the truck one by one.
21:29And they hear the rustling in the bushes again.
21:32And so they pick up the last one quickly and it's Farmer Brown.
21:35And Farmer Brown has a shotgun and he says, are you two thieves trying to steal my sheep?
21:41And they go, no, we're just counting on to make sure they're all in the pin.
21:44Wow.
21:45Wow.
21:46Wow.
21:47Jeannie, that was a great trick.
21:48This trick is probably the most difficult of the three, but there's really only two simple
21:52things that you have to remember.
21:53Now to make it easier to learn the trick, we're going to use eight half of dollars because
21:58they're a little bit bigger.
21:59The first thing you do is you place a thief in each hand.
22:03Then the most important thing is that you remember is to pick up the coins with the right
22:08hand and you'll begin putting them down with the left.
22:10So you pick up one coin at a time in the hand.
22:13Then when you say the thieves heard the rustling in the bushes, you begin to put the coins down
22:18with the left hand.
22:19That's the secret to the trick.
22:20You pick up with the right and you put down with the left.
22:23Because see, now you don't have anything in this hand and you have two here, but nobody
22:28knows that.
22:29And the second most important part of the trick is that when you put this last coin down,
22:34don't open your hand up like this or they'll know that you don't have another coin in your
22:38hand.
22:39Make sure and just drop that one coin out and pretend that you have one coin left in this
22:43hand.
22:44Then you go back to the story.
22:45They didn't hear Farmer Brown in the bushes, so then you begin picking up the coins one
22:49at a time again, starting with your right hand.
22:52And then when you say they heard the rustling in the bushes again, real quickly the right hand
22:56picks up the last coin.
22:58Then you say, Farmer Brown came out with a shotgun and he said, what are you two thieves
23:03doing here?
23:04Are you trying to steal my sheep?
23:06And they said, no, we're not trying to steal your sheep.
23:09We're just making sure that they're in the pen.
23:11The thieves and sheep trick is a great trick that will even fool adults.
23:15If you need help learning this trick, be sure and ask a parent or teacher to help you.
23:19This trick also shows us the difference between a good and a bad trick.
23:23Now the trick with the coins is a good trick, but if you were one of the thieves tricking
23:27Farmer Brown out of his sheep, well, now that would be a bad trick.
23:30Now let's go out to the park and listen to a couple of stories.
23:37So let's think about it.
23:38When is a trick not a trick?
23:40Barrett, when would you think a trick is not a trick?
23:42When it's a lie.
23:44When it's a lie.
23:45That's very good.
23:46Now what was the first evil lie, evil trick that took place?
23:50Do you remember where it might have taken place?
23:52Anybody have any ideas?
23:53Brian, do you have an idea?
23:54Yeah, the Garden of Eden.
23:56At the Garden of Eden.
23:57That's very good.
23:58And what happened?
23:59Remember, Satan went up to Eve and he said, look, do you mean God told you that you couldn't
24:04eat of the tree of life that's in the center of the garden?
24:07And she says, yeah, but I could eat from any of the other trees.
24:10He says, yeah, but the reason that God doesn't want you to eat from that tree is because it'll
24:14make you smart and wise just like God.
24:17Well, what was he doing?
24:18He was tricking her, wasn't it?
24:19But when he was tricking her, it wasn't just a regular trick.
24:22It became a bad trick because it became a lie.
24:25Isn't that right?
24:26So a trick is not a trick is when it's a lie.
24:28But there are good tricks.
24:29There are times it's okay to trick people.
24:31Let me give you an example.
24:32Do you remember the story about Rahab in the Bible?
24:35Joshua, he took over after Moses died and he was taking care of the Hebrews to get him
24:40into Israel.
24:41And he sent out two spies.
24:43Eric, do you know what spies are?
24:44People who look around to see how many soldiers there are.
24:47You know, that's very good.
24:48And so what they'll do is they'll look around.
24:50They'll try to find out how many soldiers there are, maybe how many bows and arrows they
24:54use.
24:55And there was one woman in the city of Jericho and her name was Rahab.
24:58And what she did was she took the spies into her house.
25:01She hid them up in the top of her house.
25:03So when some soldiers came from Jericho to look for where the spies might be, she says,
25:08oh, I think they've gone.
25:09And when they searched her house, they couldn't find them.
25:11So what did she do?
25:13She tricked them, didn't she?
25:15Now, was that a good trick or a bad trick?
25:17It was a good trick.
25:18It was a good trick.
25:19As a matter of fact, during World War II, that was a big war that took place over 40
25:23years ago.
25:24There was a magician.
25:25His name was Jasper Maskelyne.
25:27He was an Englishman.
25:28And you know what he did?
25:30He took and found ways, because he was a magician, to make tanks look like trucks.
25:36He would disguise them.
25:37And he was able to help win the war.
25:39So that was also a good trick, wasn't it?
25:41Now, the worst evil trick that there is, is when Satan will try and trick us into believing
25:46that we don't have to believe in Jesus in order to go to heaven.
25:49So we know there's what?
25:50There are good tricks, and there are bad tricks.
25:52And a trick is not a trick, is when it's a what?
25:55LIE
25:56Well, we've learned quite a bit.
25:58We've learned the difference between good and bad tricks.
26:01We've learned that a trick isn't a trick when it becomes a lie.
26:04And we've seen how all of us can be fooled, because our senses and our mind can be tricked.
26:09In real life, it's sometimes okay to trick someone, like Rahab did to save the lives of
26:14Joshua's spies, or like when I do my tricks.
26:17But I never want you to be tricked by Satan, like he tricked Eve.
26:20He'll try and make us think that we can get to heaven after we die without asking Jesus in our heart.
26:25But you know, there just isn't any other way of getting there without loving and trusting Jesus.
26:31And Jesus will never trick you.
26:33He said, I am the way, the truth, and the life.
26:36Nobody can get to the Father in heaven unless they go through him.
26:40That's something to think about.
26:42Now, let's watch one of my favorite tricks, the ball and cone.
26:46And then I'll see you again in Kid Tricks Part 2.
26:51Go ahead and put the little table down like that.
26:55Is that kind of neat?
26:56And we're going to use a little piece of lint and a speck of dust.
27:00You know what you get when you combine the two together?
27:02A little red rubber ball.
27:03Now, it doesn't mean anything, but it does help to keep the show going.
27:06We also have a little green cone.
27:08You'll notice there's a hole at the top.
27:09The ball can't go through the hole at the top, and it can't go through the hole at the bottom.
27:12However, if I was to take the ball, squeeze it down to the size of a BB, drop it through the top of the cone,
27:17and of course, peer back underneath the cone, which isn't a bad trick.
27:19Huh?
27:20Is that pretty good?
27:21We'll do it again.
27:23Take the ball in the hand.
27:24Take the ball.
27:25When he does that, you do this.
27:28And if I do it again, the applause should be simultaneous.
27:33Of course, any time you want, you merely take the ball, squeeze it down to the size of a BB, drop it through the top of the cone,
27:39and of course, peer's back underneath the cone, right?
27:41Now, I had one gal.
27:42She says, I know you did that.
27:43She says, what you did was, she says, you reached in your pocket, got magic dust, toss it on the ball,
27:46and that's how you made the ball disappear.
27:48I said, lady, you're nuts.
27:49I said, all you have to do is take the ball, drop it in the hand, wait about three seconds,
27:53and then it'll drop through the top of the cone.
27:55She says, ah, Mr. Quorum, it's not in the cone.
27:58It's in the other hand.
27:59I said, like I said at the top, lady, it's not in the other hand.
28:01It's underneath the cone.
28:03Huh?
28:04She said, she said, do it again.
28:07I said, okay, one more time.
28:08We'll go ahead and do it one more time.
28:10This time we squeeze it through the top.
28:12She said, do it again.
28:13I said, all right.
28:14And we, what the?
28:15Oh, you know what happened?
28:16It appeared back inside the pocket.
28:17She says, now I know how you did it.
28:19You didn't get the ball underneath the cone.
28:21You just talked me to be leaving the ball was underneath the cone.
28:23I said, okay, lady, I'll quit talking and swallow the ball.
28:29Uh-oh.
28:39And the ball, of course, appeared back underneath the cone.
28:41Hey, was that a pretty good trick?
28:42Is that all right?
28:43Now, I did that once.
28:45I did that once.
28:46The ball never came back.
28:47They laid me out on a table.
28:48They cut me here, here, and here.
28:49And I said, doc, what are you doing?
28:50He says, man, that's where the ball bounces.
28:52Okay, I'll quit talking and swallow the ball.
28:54You think I was going to swallow the ball, did you?
29:09He says, man.
29:12All right.
29:13Well wait, here.
29:14He did not withdraw the ball.
29:15That's all it did.
29:16Oh.
29:17Oh.
29:18Oh.
29:19Well.
29:20Oh.
29:22Oh.
29:23Oh.
29:23I think that's enough, don't you?
29:45What do you think, huh?
29:46Is that a pretty good trick, huh?
29:49K.
29:51K-I-D.
29:53K-I-D-T-R-I-C-K-S.
29:55Kittrichs!
29:59Kittrichs!
30:03Kittrichs!
30:05Kittrichs!
