00:01It feels like a storm is coming in.
00:05The more we go into spring,
00:07the weather out here is not very predictable.
00:10I can really tell the wind's coming.
00:12I think we're going to have to hurry up, not waste time.
00:15I'm working so hard physically and mentally.
00:20Because you're not...
00:21No, your hands are on it.
00:22I don't have much time left on the trapline.
00:24I have to get everything ready to close camp.
00:27I really need to be done with this roof.
00:31This thing made out of...
00:34I got some top stuff.
00:37We got to get this tarp on now because it's raining.
00:39I really don't want to have any issues with mold.
00:44Judas.
00:46The biggest worry I have about living all this
00:48is I just don't want to be the old guy alone.
00:52It never stopped being here.
00:57There is always another project.
00:59You finish one, there is another one.
01:01I would have loved to finish this before the Black Blacks.
01:04The beginning of hell.
01:07The water feels good.
01:09I love being alone.
01:12It's a big part of my lifestyle.
01:18There is nothing around you to distract you.
01:23Here, there is just trees and mountains.
01:24But some things are too hard to do by yourself.
01:25So for sure, I'm very happy Alex is here to help me.
01:26I love being alone.
01:27I love being alone.
01:28It's a big part of my lifestyle.
01:32There is nothing around you to distract you.
01:33Here, there is just trees and mountains.
01:38But some things are too hard to do by yourself.
01:46So for sure, I'm very happy Alex is here to help me.
01:54I tucked it all under here somehow.
01:56It's all wired up white.
01:57Is it?
01:58Yeah.
01:59Yeah.
02:02The plan for today is to remove this temporary roof and start to put the new boards up.
02:12I'm happy to be back and it's pretty exciting to really finish the project now.
02:20Let's put the looking side outside.
02:24No, we can.
02:25Outside?
02:26Well, mostly when we are inside, you know, so we have the nice looking from inside.
02:34Yeah, I mean, there is no insulation with the tarp, so I lost a lot of heat from the roof.
02:39So having an actual roof on it, it's going to help to keep the heat down.
02:45Yeah, they're pretty thick boards.
02:46Those are about two inches thick, just in case some trees fall on the roof or I don't know.
02:51Hopefully it's strong enough.
02:53We mill them with an Alaskan sawmill, so we just use a chainsaw to cut along the tree and get the thickness we want.
03:03I'll just go up top and you pass them, or how do you do?
03:06What do you want to do?
03:08Yeah, I'll go on the lower beams and try to pull them up and...
03:12Or I'll try to push them up, yeah.
03:14Okay, wait for a second and I'll look if I can see if it's square.
03:21How come there's such a gap?
03:23Because nothing is straight.
03:25Move.
03:27Well, I have nowhere to move.
03:28Just your hand, thank you.
03:30Ouch! Alex, wait.
03:33Just hold it, Alex!
03:35Yes!
03:36You're working on it!
03:37Yeah, so?
03:39We're both pretty perfectionists when it comes to work.
03:43Sometimes Alex likes to talk more before doing and I like to do and less talk.
03:49We work together and of course we not always agree on things, but we love each other and that's what matters.
03:56One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven.
04:01So sometimes it's kind of a compromise for both of us to find our groove.
04:06Were you trying to be in the middle or...?
04:09What do you mean the middle?
04:11Your cat, were you trying to be in the middle?
04:15Because you're not...
04:16No, your hands are on it.
04:19Let go, left hand.
04:22Alex, I'm just saying you're not in the middle with your mark.
04:24So if that was the purpose, it's not.
04:27I'm not trying to.
04:30The problem is if we cut the...
04:33right the middle, it'll be harder to butt the other boards up, no?
04:37I don't know.
04:41There's a lot of pressure, time-wise.
04:44I'm leaving in a couple of weeks to go back guiding.
04:48I really want to get this roof down before I leave because I don't want to have to deal with that when I come back in the fall.
04:53And it could get wet inside and it would be easier for animals to get in there.
05:02I worked too hard to let it get wrecked.
05:04I'm not the classic old woodsman hermit you might think of out in the woods splitting wood all day long and not want to see anyone.
05:21I love people.
05:22But all in all, this is my happy place.
05:23If I had to pick one place to be stuck, it would be in the woods.
05:31Nice sunny day, we're going to start building a wharf.
05:33It's kind of like a floating patio.
05:34Newfoundland is known to have rough shorelines and just to have a designated area to launch the boat and to go swimming like a wharf just makes it that much easier to access the water.
05:44I've already started putting like a bit of a little rock landing way out here.
05:51Right now it's spring of the year so all the water is really high.
05:54But come the middle of summer when it's hot and dry and hasn't rained a whole lot, this water level is going to drop quite a bit.
05:59So that's the whole idea of building this little rock runway is to get further offshore in hopes that it doesn't run dry and end up sitting on the rocks.
06:12That's a good one.
06:13More like that.
06:17A lot of the projects I've been doing over the winter and then the fall have been projects that are necessity or projects to really improve life up here in an off-grid sense.
06:25The wharf is not that. It's purely luxury.
06:32A couple of nice chairs, a coffee just floating on the wharf. Oh, it's going to be magic.
06:40It's a high-end load of lumber right there. It's all pressure treated.
06:44This is some stuff that no matter how hard I try, I can't pull this out of the trees myself with a chainsaw.
06:49But it'll be a lifelong wharf. Please, please .
06:51A little hot water job here.
06:55Lost the keys to this thing a while back.
07:00Works every time.
07:02Don't leave your quad around me.
07:10Beauty.
07:11Looks good.
07:21Just want to get this close to the water.
07:26Oh.
07:28Yeesh.
07:29Once it's all built up and decked over, it's going to be way too heavy for one person to lift.
07:37All right.
07:39It's decent.
07:40Okay, now that's the fun part. Put the barrels in.
07:48Hopefully these actually fit.
07:50I can have access to a bunch of cheap barrels, and that's all we need to float it.
07:55She fits.
07:57It's got a bunch of old ratchet straps.
07:58It's the same to do, but I'm going to do it. I'm going to cut them off.
08:04Oh my lord.
08:06No one ever says I was the best nailer.
08:13That's it.
08:15It's ready to float.
08:28There it is. Look at that. We've got a floating wharf.
08:36So many projects come to mind seeing this.
08:38I just want to build a floating cabin now real bad, but it works.
08:42Oh yeah, baby.
08:44Just be out here just feeling the motion of the ocean.
08:48It's beautiful. It really is beautiful.
08:58When we came here, I definitely felt there was something different about this area.
09:07I remember seeing the sun shining and the way that it hits the trees.
09:12I knew I was going to love it.
09:16When we came here, there was nothing.
09:19We didn't know what size make it, what style.
09:22We had no idea. We just, okay, start digging.
09:25It's amazing to see how far we've come.
09:28The final push to the finished cabin right now, because the snow's going to melt.
09:38It's going to be really hard to get to the cabin.
09:43It's a lot of mushkeg to get there, and that gets very swampy.
09:47So we have to wait for it to melt. It could take about three to four weeks.
09:51So this one's going to go on this wall, right? The smaller one?
09:56Yeah, that would be good.
09:58Yeah. That looks good.
09:59We have to make sure that our window is in the right spot.
10:02We're going to have a loft right here for the kids to go sleep on.
10:06We have to have the loft end before the window.
10:08Or else the loft is going to go over the window, and that's just going to be weird.
10:11We really miss our kids, and I know they can't wait to see us. They can't wait to come here, because we want to teach our kids how to go hunting, trapping, harvesting, and really be in tune with the land and be in tune with yourself.
10:28That feels so much better. This is a really good idea for a window spot.
10:35When I can see Nigig sleeping.
10:36Yeah, this is a really good window.
10:38Okay, so we've got to hurry up to finish up the other window frames, because we want to have windows in for tonight. I don't want to sleep with a wind drop.
10:54The more we go into spring, the weather out here is not very predictable. I think there's definitely some weather coming. The wind is shifting from the east, and usually we know that there's a storm coming. I think we're going to have some rain, and we do not want to get a wet cabin.
11:15I can really tell the wind's coming. I think we're going to have to hurry up with that rock to not waste time.
11:30Living in the north keeps me young. I'm working so hard physically and mentally, and there is always another project. You finish one, there is another one.
11:45Well, summer is coming. It's a very tradition here in Quebec just to cook outside. Because it gets too warm inside the cabin. So what I'm planning now is to build an outdoor kitchen. Like a barbecue, kind of.
12:06That's good. It rained a lot last night. It was crazy how rainy it was last night. So today is supposed to rain again. So I just want to make sure this thing is done before it gets much rain, you know.
12:29So this will hold the cement. I can work under the rain. No big deal. But the thing is, the cement needs to dry out. If it rains too much, that's no good. I would have loved to finish this before the black flies and mosquitoes are out.
12:41Now it's just the beginning of hell. But I've got to go for it. If I'm always scared here, I won't do anything.
12:53Almost. This will help to reinforce the cement. There we go. And I want them to dry out.
13:00to be a little bit lift up. So I'm going to use maybe some small rocks that I'm going to put underneath.
13:07And I want them to be a little bit lift up. So I'm going to use maybe some small rocks that I'm going to put underneath.
13:15All right. It's going to work. Next step. The blacksmithing. Want it to be like hell. So hot. I need to put the cement on the cement.
13:22And I want them to be a little bit lift up. This will help to reinforce the cement. There we go. And I want them to be a little bit lift up.
13:28So I'm going to use maybe some small rocks that I'm going to put underneath. All right. It's going to work.
13:35Next step. La forge. The blacksmithing. Want it to be like hell. So hot.
13:43I need to put two steel rod. Okay. In order to support the grill.
14:02Woo. This is great. Good angle. Very happy with it.
14:13So now I'm ready to put this concrete.
14:20Too much water is no good. Not enough water is not good enough also. So I just need to find the right mix.
14:40You've got only one chance, huh? If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. This is, this is kind of a big job.
14:49Just want to make sure I've got concrete everywhere in the corner.
15:02That's a lot. There we go. Yeah, should be fine. No worry at all. I'm just worried about the mosquitoes. I've got bit, man, like crazy.
15:24There we go. In the concrete. The last few days it's been so hot that I wouldn't be surprised there is thunderstorms very soon.
15:33Hopefully that won't be tonight.
15:35And tomorrow it will be all dried out. I just cross my fingers.
15:47For me cities are just so many things that don't really matter. What I love most about the cabin is that I built everything from nothing and I started that project alone.
16:02But Alex spent some time with me here and he helped a lot. Wait, I'm just probably going to slide all the way down.
16:23I'm blocking you. Are you? So it's definitely our home. Thank you. For both of us.
16:36It feels like a storm is coming in. Yeah, it's getting more windy and it's kind of cooling down already.
16:44When you're in the mountains, the weather changes quick. You know, it can be sunny and a couple of hours later it's pouring rain. That's extreme.
16:56We had to put a tarp on last night because it started to rain. We couldn't finish that part. The pitch is pretty steep. So it's already slippery enough without water on it. So if it rains, it's pretty ****.
17:09And I don't want too much water to come in there because then it's, it's a mess and this plywood is already pretty old. So I don't want it to start rotting if it's get too wet and stuff. So I just need to keep it dry.
17:21We just got to finish to close those couple boards here.
17:30This gap is, I mean, it's not straight. That's why we got to trim the last board. It's pretty classic that nothing is straight and you just got to adjust.
17:48I gave up on my OCD. Just slide it up a little bit and I'll give you the better axe.
17:55Oh, wait, wait, wait.
18:00It's a good feeling to know that whatever the bush threw at you, you can figure it out.
18:09I mean, it might take a lot of sweat, tears or whatever, but we'll figure it out.
18:16Well, that's it.
18:19Except that **** custom board. The rest looks pretty good.
18:23Just got to put the tar paper, bake the barrier and moss and that's it.
18:28You're done.
18:31We better get this done with the rain coming.
18:38Just one more layer and then it's going to be waterproof for the night.
18:44The rain has been pretty intense the last couple of days.
18:47I'm happy we got that done before another storm was coming in.
18:50We can start putting stuff back inside and to know how we finish it.
19:09Last board, baby.
19:14That's it. She's down.
19:17Look at that. Proper little floating dance floor.
19:21Woo-hoo.
19:23Pass the test. Ronnie loves it.
19:25We got the seal of approval for Ronnie.
19:28All right, Ronnie. Let's go build our gangway.
19:32Life's just better in the woods with a dog and he's my ride or die.
19:39But the biggest worry I have about living all this is I just don't want to be the old guy alone.
19:46I want to have, you know, family. I do.
19:50So it's a very sweet and sour thing because I absolutely love being in nature.
19:55I love being out here.
19:57And that's why I am alone.
19:59I don't have a wife because I haven't found a person that won't make me trade that.
20:11I should stand back and look at it.
20:13Now once this thing starts floating, I push it out.
20:16It's going to be really, really nice.
20:20So this is exactly why you don't throw any old gunk.
20:24Looks like a heap of garbage, but it's all a bunch of usable scrap steel, good rubber.
20:28This is going to be a perfect bumper where the main platform and the floating gangway come together.
20:34We want something so it's not wood on wood.
20:36I think I can just jerry-rig it off there.
20:38Is this thing made out of?
20:48I got out of there some tough stuff.
20:54Look at this knife in through there.
20:58Oh wow, that's doing it.
21:00I don't think a cabin in the woods is for everyone.
21:04This is my happy place.
21:06Some people's happy place is sitting in a coffee shop reading a book and that's fine.
21:10Oh, it's so close.
21:12Try to re-sip some once more.
21:14Just for a little bit.
21:16It's not for everyone.
21:18But the ones that it is for, they get it.
21:26Here it is.
21:30And I'm very, very grateful and thankful to have this place.
21:33And I hope to have this cabin in this land for the rest of my life.
21:43Recycling and reuse nose comes with a little bit of sweat equity.
21:47Yeah, that's it right there.
21:50That'll go flat.
21:53And wood, just like that.
21:55That'll be our bumper.
22:00Oh, nippers.
22:03Oh, the black flies.
22:06Got me killed.
22:08Alright.
22:10Let's go put it on.
22:17Yesterday, when I looked at the sun, there was a ring around the sun.
22:23So when you have the ring around the sun, or sometimes you have it around the moon as well,
22:28there's a lot of moisture in the air.
22:30And that means that it's going to snow or rain.
22:33I learned that here when I came to Pihuanic.
22:36And I learned that from elders in the community.
22:41We need to hurry up, put this on, put the windows and doors,
22:44and then put the tarp back on before it rains inside our cabin.
22:54Like that?
22:55Right.
22:59You think my kids are going to want to draw on this?
23:01Yeah.
23:04You know what it says on this thing?
23:05Nope.
23:07It says that it's made for Canadian weather.
23:09Oh yeah?
23:10At minus 10.
23:12I don't know what kind of Canadian that is.
23:14What kind of Canadian that is?
23:15City that is.
23:17So we got to get this tarp on now because it's raining.
23:20I really don't want to have any issues with mold.
23:22So we got to get this covered now until we're able to do our roof.
23:25Okay, I'm just going to use the trees because I don't want to put more nails in the, in the wall.
23:40Oh no.
23:41I can't believe I'm, like, I don't think I've ever been excited about having a window.
23:56Oh yeah?
23:57Oh wow.
23:58Looks good.
23:59Is it in?
24:00It's in, I think.
24:01Oh, almost chopped it.
24:02There you go, it's in.
24:03Awesome, okay.
24:04Is the door itself rotten?
24:05Man, this is, like, falling apart.
24:06The person that gave it to us, they told us it was temporary.
24:10I could see why.
24:11A little bit higher.
24:12Yeah.
24:13Can I blow your hands?
24:14Over your fingers.
24:16I can't believe we made it work with this door.
24:19The rotten door, yeah.
24:20Yeah.
24:21Oh, almost chopped it.
24:22There you go, it's in.
24:23Awesome, okay.
24:24Is the door itself rotten?
24:25Oh man, this is, like, falling apart.
24:26The person that gave it to us, they told us it was temporary.
24:29I could see why.
24:30A little bit higher.
24:31Yeah.
24:32Careful your hands.
24:33Careful your fingers.
24:35I can't believe we made it work with this door.
24:37This rotten door, yeah.
24:38Yeah.
24:39Okay, let's see if it closes well.
24:43Yeah.
24:44Nice.
24:45Nice.
24:46So the next step is to put in the loft.
24:49It's going to be for the kids to go up there, have fun, put their stuff up there, sleep,
24:55and then our bed's going to be down here.
24:57Gilbert's going to cut one of his logs.
25:00This piece of wood, I got it in the river 15 years ago.
25:06So we're going to use this as a beam for the loft in here.
25:09One year I was like, oh, I'm going to try making a cabin.
25:13So I went over and chopped some of these white spruce down, but I never got time to make it.
25:19And then it sat there for 15 years, and then finally Emily was like, hey, grab one of those for a post.
25:25Okay.
25:26I really think it's important to put it in here because it just shows, you know, something that Gilbert worked really hard at.
25:34It's heavy.
25:35Oh, my goodness.
25:36Looks like a tree grew through a cabin.
25:37I love it.
25:38Yeah.
25:39That looks nice.
25:40You think maybe the loft will start right here?
25:55Yeah.
25:56Yeah.
25:57Is it too low?
25:58Should we put it just a tiny bit?
26:00Let me sit.
26:01I'll go grab the other one.
26:06Next step is we just slap the plywood on top and then make the steps.
26:15I think it'd be good to take a break.
26:17Take a little break and dream on it and tomorrow.
26:34Well, it rained a bit last night.
26:38I'm kind of worried about it, but, well, we'll see.
26:43Oh, man, that was good.
26:45Oh, it dries.
26:50It's a race against modern nature here.
26:54But she's been good to me, modern nature.
26:57She's been good.
27:00This kind of project, I'm going to use it every day.
27:07It makes my life easier and happier.
27:12The fire will burn and there will be embers here.
27:19So I'll be able to do some cooking right over the embers.
27:25Next step, put some bricks here to make sure the embers won't fall over and the wind stop the wind.
27:35Whoops.
27:36It doesn't fit.
27:41I'm surprised.
27:42So I'll need to cut it off a bit here.
27:44Oh, too much.
27:50This is one of the key of living off-grid.
27:54You try, you fail.
27:57You just, you know, do it again until you succeed.
28:02There is always a solution, you know.
28:04I'm just going to fight it.
28:06There we go.
28:11It's so important never giving up here.
28:18Just want to make it nice, to look nice.
28:21And when I'm going to cook, I'm going to look at it and I say to myself,
28:25that was a good job.
28:37This project I really enjoy because there is a good reward at the end.
28:41Huge steak.
28:42I can't wait to add them.
28:46There we go.
28:47There's a lot, big bunch here.
28:50There we go.
28:53It's so great, you know, to have a place outside to cook.
29:01It's perfect.
29:02It's just perfect.
29:05What is the future?
29:07There is so many other projects that I've got in mind, you know.
29:10It's like more you put time into this land, more you have projects.
29:15I can spend the next 40 years here, you know.
29:18But what I would like to most, I would say, is just to share more this place.
29:24This is great.
29:29It's heaven.
29:31Because it's a great way, you know, to feel that there is a meaning.
29:36Your life is worth living here.
29:38Look at that.
29:39I love it when it's blue.
29:41You know, you work so hard and at the end the reward is just, oh wow, I love life.
29:51This is paradise.
29:54I've been working so hard the last few months on this homestead.
29:58I'm so proud, you know.
30:00Woo!
30:02Oh!
30:07I've done so much.
30:11It's perfect.
30:12It's perfect.
30:14It's just, you know, simple life.
30:17It's easy to be satisfied.
30:19This is the best place on earth.
30:23What else do you want?
30:25I don't think I could have a partner that is not as much into this lifestyle that I am.
30:44In this case with Alex, we're just starting to build a life together.
30:48So there's many more adventures to come.
30:54I'm a bit exhausted right now.
30:57It's almost done.
30:59Moss is the last layer putting on the roof.
31:02It's going to keep the roof waterproof and it's going to be good insulation.
31:06Yeah, I mean it's everywhere around here.
31:09There's tons.
31:10For the roof I'm cutting big pieces, like big square like this.
31:15So it's one piece, one big piece at a time.
31:18It's easier to put on and it's pretty heavy though.
31:22It's another example that you can gather a lot of things around and nature gives you everything you need here.
31:28I'm very proud of Margot.
31:38There's not many people that can do this.
31:41I'm just being careful because I don't want to slide it around here because I have a nail in here already, okay?
31:47Okay, so you hold and I'm going to walk on it.
31:50Sure.
31:55Honey, what did you have for breakfast?
31:57Well, this one's probably already going on the side.
32:04If it's good?
32:05Just wanted to see if it's holding.
32:08It is holding.
32:09It's holding good?
32:10Yeah.
32:11Get a hold of it?
32:13Yeah.
32:17Every year, I spend in the bush, I can see me kind of sliding away from the rest of the world.
32:24It's harder and harder to connect with people that are not part of this lifestyle.
32:30So the fact that we can share everything and it's just perfect.
32:36Good job.
32:37Good job.
32:38Good job.
32:39Good job.
32:40It's done.
32:44It looks great.
32:45I didn't think it would look that great, so it's amazing.
32:47It's a huge relief that it's done before I have to leave.
32:49i have to leave yeah now i can go back getting and be confident that the cabin is going to stand
32:54and i know i'm going to miss it so much this summer but uh i'll be back this was just a piece
33:02of forest a couple months ago it took a lot of work just from finding the spot cutting the logs down
33:08and build all the walls and you know cut the door windows kitchen
33:19hey it was very special to be able to spare to share that with alex it's the first time we do
33:23something that big it's awesome i mean we will remember that forever and it's good memories i'm
33:28sure we'll spend a lot of time here together so it's pretty special it's a house it does feel
33:39like a home now with all the all the energy putting in all the sweat and all the adventures around it
33:46and it's not just a house i bought somewhere it's uh you know i built it from nothing it's definitely
33:54a home now i'm gonna come back in the fall and uh start trapping pretty much right away
34:02probably do some improvement on the cabin
34:07there's always tons of projects to do anyway so i know i'm gonna miss it this summer and i'm
34:12already looking forward to come back and spend another winter here
34:29it's such a blessing just to be out here wake up every morning and just open the door into a
34:35world full of freedom and full of opportunities to just do whatever you want have whatever kind of day
34:40that you want to have you know i almost think i measure this thing so fits fits damn near perfectly
34:58that's it that's our bumper next thing now is anchors
35:01i don't know how heavy it is but i want to say a good 200 pounds
35:15oh no no no she's going
35:20out here challenges are a good thing
35:21bye baby back to daddy get her done there's no plan just straight from the hip and just
35:31see what happens hope for the best still better spend the money on the store about anchors i'll tell
35:34you it might look like fun but i'm having a great time
35:44judas i mean that's all part of it it makes me that's what makes me get up in the morning to just
35:50get out there and start figuring out the next project okay that's one of the smaller ones
36:00rock anchor is pretty much as simple as it sounds it's just the heaviest rock you can get
36:06kind of just weave a bunch of rope around it something they've been doing since beginning of
36:10time as far as i know before they had steel anchors it would have been rocks sure they had a lot better
36:16rope technique to me but it wouldn't have been that far that much different
36:24an decent rope job it should last a while
36:30here you go
36:37four anchor rocks around there i mean they look good look how you really tell how heavy those anchors are
36:42but how low we're sitting in the water now i'd say it's about 800 maybe a thousand pounds on there
36:46right now once we kick these things in the water the things that move anywhere
36:51now it's just a matter of connecting all together and put in place
37:03this is a real juggling act trying to get this thing out here in the wind and trying to deal with
37:07all the different ropes but just to knock it out and just crawling through and punch it all the way
37:11to 100 percent and first shot feels amazing here it is i mean that's what a floating wharf looks like
37:19and damn i gotta say it looks pretty pretty good living in the woods full time like this is very
37:24important not to always just be the blinders on and just working so hard always chasing the nut it's
37:30good just to kick back and enjoy life
37:48that everyone gets the opportunity just to dream up projects and go and build it so i'm just very
37:53thankful for the whole thing and just to be blessed with living in the woods having a good dog a nice
37:59cabin it chainsaw that starts up every time just the simple things out here but god it's good
38:20once we have the loft the beds everything made we'll be able to bring the kids and we're
38:25good to start staying in there okay so now we're cutting the log oh cutting like what are you
38:37deciding gilbert i thought we were cutting the log a little bit you told me the log is gonna go into
38:42one of these beams yeah yeah is it going into the beam are you cutting it and i feel like you need to
38:47visually see it all right to know what i'm talking about all right there's been a lot of stress and tough
38:55you know tough things we had to figure out together but he's been very patient with me
38:59do you see how it doesn't work uh explain again okay option number one is it goes on the outside of
39:06the log but it's not going to look very nice it's going to look it's going to look like a
39:12like it doesn't belong there yeah or if you want to go inside of the log it's going to look professional
39:17then we would have to make our own posts so we'll do that one and we have to measure the line here
39:25so where i can cut yeah this is a challenging cut
39:32this is a one-shot deal if it doesn't work it doesn't work
39:35okay just twist it
39:48oh yeah you're really good at that yeah that's really really good gilbert yeah i'm really impressed
39:55the kids are gonna run all up and down hang off this swing and
40:00swinging and jumping climb up the pole yeah it's good okay let's finish this
40:11i think it's so excited it's starting to look really good like i lost
40:15let's see oh yeah tough enough for the kids the kids are gonna be really excited i don't think
40:33they realize that it's completed in there yeah i'm looking forward to that reaction because we worked so
40:39hard now this is going to be like their gift
40:55all right you guys excited yeah you like how it looks
41:01wow eh took a long time but we did it
41:05it's so cool
41:15what do you guys think
41:16yeah hey i'm going up there you're gonna go up there
41:25i love this place it's so cool do you like our house
41:29yeah this is like the coolest thing i have ever seen i want to go in this spot all right
41:38oh i knew they were gonna do that
41:42i think they like it it's to hold up the loft hey do you guys love it here
41:48do you guys think you're gonna enjoy sleeping here yeah
41:52makes me really happy to see how much they love it
41:55why don't we do any first i need you okay
42:03every year we're gonna mark how tall they're getting and
42:06for the years to come i'm gonna be able to see the progress
42:09we can see next year how tall you are and how much you've grown
42:13then we're gonna look back one day and say remember when you were this little and
42:16you came to check this place out for the first time you know it'll be good memories
42:20and brooke you want more marshmallows i got more definition of good life is just sitting around
42:27and having a feast with your family and then chatting it up and having a laugh
42:32i think we're gonna have wine tonight yeah
42:35wine tonight we've built this together and it's ours it's ours to stay we've really turned this place
42:42into a family home yeah my confidence is like boom up there i'm a house builder now i look forward to
42:52living here and having memories here for the kids and eventually building more because it's
42:58not going to end here it's a place to grow
