00:00If you want to live this lifestyle here in the north, you have to be able to hunt, to trap, to fish.
00:06Oh yeah, I got a fish!
00:09You can make your own clothes, you can eat, you can do everything if you have the skills.
00:16Tradition is an extremely important thing.
00:19Bullseye!
00:20And being on land is tradition.
00:24Living off grid, you have to find ways to make your life easier all the time.
00:30It's like making moonshine, huh?
00:33Just to live in a place where I can walk out of my front door and just build a bed, it brings me great, great happiness.
00:40This is the life I want.
00:43When in doubt, more chainsaw.
00:47Nothing is easy in this world, huh?
00:51Let's not break the area, it's your own house.
00:54Do you think this is going to be a really nice home?
00:57Yeah.
00:58It really is a dream come true.
01:00I've always wanted this.
01:23Newfoundland's island in North Atlantic.
01:25This place gets beaten by wind and snow, especially this time of year.
01:32Nothing better than being up at the cabin for a proper snowstorm.
01:36Just getting snowed in.
01:38And it is wonderful.
01:39When a big storm hits, sometimes the best thing to do is just stay inside.
01:49In this case, we stay inside and just get to work.
01:54Come around.
01:56Good.
01:58Oh, a little snowed egg.
02:00A little snowed egg.
02:01This is really the day I've been looking forward to.
02:07All that work of finishing that addition, getting that all closed in.
02:10Now it's finally time to blow a hole in the existing wall and be able to access all that
02:16new space, which is really exciting.
02:18I've got to get all this clutter out of here.
02:25This place is starting to look like my grandmother's house.
02:28I never use any of this.
02:32A couple of metal wine glasses.
02:33Never been used once.
02:35Even all the way up here, you still acquire lots of clutter.
02:39Get this ugly old thing out of here.
02:48Right now, the new addition is completely cut off.
02:52It's the only way in is through this window.
02:54I really don't want to crack one of these old girls.
02:57This window is getting reused for the new addition.
03:00You're not throwing stuff away up here.
03:02So much easier to reuse up here than it is to bring in new stuff.
03:09No herd we're a store around here.
03:15Well, we're ready to pop the window out.
03:22That's not breaking entering up your own house.
03:28That's a good-looking view.
03:32Ready for the window.
03:39It's a good priest.
03:42I think it's got some weight to it.
03:45It's a good fit.
03:51Hell yeah, boyo.
03:56Hey, Ron.
03:58Ronnie thinks there's a serving window.
04:00You ready to make your order?
04:03What do you like, sir?
04:04Two-piece fish and chips?
04:06Next thing we've got to do is create a doorway.
04:08Be able to walk from the old cabin into the new addition.
04:11This is the part you don't want to mess up.
04:12Cutting a hole in your cabin.
04:15Once you cut it, there ain't no going back.
04:18When in doubt, more chainsaw.
04:20Just like that.
04:37Anything, Ron?
04:37Come on.
04:38Come check it out.
04:40Come in.
04:42You can finally come in, Ron.
04:45Got a real bedroom now.
04:46It's going to be so good to sleep in here.
04:48It's been a lot of work.
04:50Well, it's starting to pay off.
05:04This is the first full winter that I'm trapping on my own.
05:08I have to just be careful.
05:12If I know that things can go wrong and I'm not invincible,
05:16of course, like, you have to be aware of wildlife.
05:18You're not alone.
05:20You can be a predator, but you can also be prey.
05:24You have to know that you're just part of the chain.
05:27It's very humbling.
05:28This wolf was hanging around my camp.
05:40It was really interested in us, in Kate and I.
05:43I saw his tracks, and two of the friends he was with, following everywhere we would go, getting
05:50closer and closer every day.
05:53One day, he came really close.
05:56He just kept walking towards me.
05:57So, I had to shoot it.
06:00It's a nice wolf, so I'm going to take care of the pelt for sure.
06:04It is probably around 80, 90 pounds.
06:07It's a big wolf.
06:08It's a big wolf.
06:08This wolf right now is frozen solid, so I'm just going to put it in the cache so it's safe
06:22from mice and stuff that could chew it.
06:24And I'm going to take it down in a couple of days and throw it and skin it in the cabin.
06:29Now that I have the wolf in the cache, I'm going to go out in the bush, keep opening a trail
06:39and check some snares.
06:42It's a trapping day.
06:46I like to go trapping on skis because it's a little faster than snowshoes.
06:52There's about four and a half feet of snow.
06:55So, it makes it a little more difficult to travel around here.
07:03It's a hard workout for sure.
07:08The trap line like this consists of having different trails to trap different species.
07:15I'm going to go check my marking traps and set some more.
07:19It's a pretty fresh marking traps.
07:26They're all over here, so I think it's a good spot to set up a set here.
07:39Trapping allows me to be self-sufficient.
07:43It's very rewarding.
07:44I'm going to wire some bait on my cone, set up the trap.
07:53All my stuff is rotten and stinky and greasy, so I'm wearing my bait gloves.
08:01This is beaver, so it's not the worst.
08:05Beaver doesn't smell too, too bad, but it's still pretty rotten, so...
08:08My bait is wired inside the cone, so when they climb up the tree and they look inside, they can see the bait.
08:18It's why there is a cross, so my trap is set on the cross and the cone is above it, so no birds can come and grab the bait.
08:26There is no snow on the trap.
08:29And it works pretty good.
08:30Now I have my safeties, unfortunately.
08:48That's when the trigger can pop you.
08:51Just handling this kind of traps, you have to be always careful to not make a mistake.
08:56This one is so sensitive.
09:00As soon as the safeties are off, I have to be careful to not put my fingers in there.
09:06It sure hurts.
09:10Now it's all set.
09:11Safeties are off.
09:13It's going to come up the tree, and as soon as it touches the trigger, the springs are released and close on them.
09:20It's a way to kill the animal right away behind the neck, so there is no suffering.
09:27I always had a good catch with it, so hopefully I catch something on this one.
09:31Right now we're taking a break from the construction on our new cabin.
09:54We're coming out here to hopefully get some fresh fish.
09:57Where we live is so far north.
10:02Almost all of our fresh food comes from hunting or fishing.
10:05And in the winter, that can be challenging.
10:09I'm going to put some holes here.
10:11Okay.
10:12All the way up to that leaning tree.
10:14It's not an option to fail.
10:17You really can't survive on just dry goods or canned food.
10:21If you want to make a life here, you need to be able to harvest food from the land.
10:25We're on a river, and we're pretty close to the cabin.
10:36So this is like a good spot when we need something right away.
10:40We usually come here by boat.
10:42I've never fished here on the ice, though.
10:45This is going to be a first.
10:46I thought you made close to 10 holes.
11:01We just love this.
11:02This is the old school ice fishing rod.
11:20You can pull up like a 50-pounder with this stick in the line.
11:24Simple and it works.
11:25Now, let's get a little secret weapon.
11:30Secret weapon is bacon.
11:33Fish have noses.
11:36Sometimes they smell before they bite.
11:44Now we wait.
11:45Sometimes they'll get fish after fish.
12:01Other times, you just get nothing at all.
12:07Nigig, you're scaring the fish away.
12:11Why is nothing biting?
12:13Maybe we're too early, but maybe two more weeks.
12:18There'll be more fish for this type of fishing.
12:22It would be nice.
12:23Even if we get one, at least, you know, we're not leaving empty-handed.
12:28Maybe I'll try bacon.
12:29Since I left the cabin 10 years ago, the place has been abandoned.
12:47So the last month, I've been working mostly around the cabin.
12:51For instance, the chimney, the woodshed, the bridge.
12:55But now, I just want to make it more homey, comfortable, to make this a place I want to be.
13:07Living off-grid, you have to find ways to make your life easier all the time.
13:12Yes, sometimes it's hard.
13:13For instance, my cabin is a dry cabin.
13:16No running water.
13:18I've got to get to the river to get my water and to warm it up on the wood stove.
13:22So, I would like to have a hot water system using the heat coming from the wood stove.
13:29So, this is my goal.
13:32The main component of the water system to make it hot, it's a copper pipe.
13:37I'm going to use the light inside the chimney piece to roll the copper pipe around this pipe.
13:53Oh, this is exciting.
13:54I don't like it.
14:10It's no good when it's pinchy like this.
14:13The goal here is to get water through it.
14:16It needs to be wide, flat, round, without any pinches here.
14:20Right now, you know, I'm just trying to figure it out a different way to do it.
14:28Okay.
14:38Very close.
14:41I like it.
14:42I like it.
14:43It looks better.
14:44Okay.
14:44Oh, man.
14:51Now we're talking.
14:54It is good to me.
14:56This is exactly what I had in mind.
14:58But is it working as a water system?
15:01That's another question.
15:12Let's make it fit.
15:13Okay.
15:14The pipe coming out, the wood stove, it doesn't exist anymore, this kind of pipe.
15:24It's oval.
15:25It's not round.
15:26Compared to the new pipe, it's brand new.
15:29It's round.
15:30So I really need it to get it crimped a little bit more.
15:34In order to fit it.
15:39So stiff.
15:41That's the thing, you know, using old stove to make modern material fit.
15:52Go to improvise.
15:53Go to improvise.
15:54And a lot of muscle.
15:56Almost.
15:58Two millimeters.
16:00My head is just spinning.
16:01Come on, big guy.
16:07One millimeter.
16:08One millimeter.
16:09One millimeter.
16:09And a lot of muscle.
16:10Oh, man.
16:10Oh, man.
16:12Oh, yeah.
16:13Oh, man.
16:16Oh, yeah.
16:18Oh.
16:20Oh.
16:20Oh.
16:21That's never coming off again.
16:23Oh.
16:24Oh, man, and so happy and we'll see relieved
16:30So now
16:32Let's kinetic on the water system
16:50Hey making it run you already do over here
16:52He's excited for his new space
16:55Two-bedroom house, one for you, one for me
16:58If you want to live up in a cabin like this year around wintertime
17:05You need good insulation
17:07Without insulation up here, it'd just be
17:10A bunch of cold wooden walls
17:13This is the first stud for the partition wall
17:18To separate the two bedrooms
17:20Over here, this will be the main bedroom
17:25We're all asleep
17:26And over here, we'll put a couple bunk beds
17:28It feels like a real house
17:29When I look back into the old cabin
17:31Wow, look how far away the door is now
17:34So much space
17:35We're working on pine, which is a pretty big deal
17:45The great thing with pine is you don't need to paint it or stain it
17:48You just put it up and just that raw wood look
17:52I really love it
17:53Oh yeah, looks good
18:04The only thing that can make this bedroom any better is a bed
18:09Last thing I want to do is have to go to town
18:11And try and drag a bed up over this trail
18:14Much easier and much more enjoyable
18:16Just to whip up a nice little bush log bed
18:19I need one decent sized log that I can get
18:28Maybe 10, 12 feet out of
18:31It's time to make some furniture
18:32It means a lot to me, this place
18:45I've been coming up these woods
18:47This lake
18:48Since I was 9 years old
18:50So I feel very
18:51Very much like a young boy again
18:53Coming back here and going through the same woods
18:56It's a very good feeling
18:58Building it in a bush like this
19:02It's just a whole different type of freedom
19:04As long as it works, no one cares
19:07And there's no one here to see it
19:08Alright, old girl
19:10Ready to sing?
19:13You can make a masterpiece
19:14Or you can literally duct tape it together
19:16If you can dream it up
19:21And you're willing to do the work
19:22You can build it
19:23I really want to lay it out
19:30And see how it looks
19:31Just so I can visualize it
19:35Headboard
19:38Footboard
19:40You're actually looking good, boy
19:44Putting these four posts up
19:47And putting these beams in place
19:48Really looks like
19:49It feels like a bed to me now
19:50It's going to be beautiful
19:51I'm not sure what it is about it
19:54But as soon as I take a log
19:55Or a tree
19:56And peel the bark off
19:57And have this nice, smooth
19:58Fresh log underneath
20:00This just looks so damn good
20:02It's not supposed to be perfect
20:08The real beauty comes from
20:10Your imperfection
20:11A little bit of a bow in the center
20:16But you won't notice that
20:18When you're sleeping
20:18Yeah, I'm not
20:35I'm not going to keep fishing here
20:36There's really no point
20:37Hopefully closer to the evening
20:40We'll get fish
20:41So I think for now
20:42We're going to try a little bit
20:44Of target shooting practice
20:45When I was 12
20:51I learned how to use a rifle
20:54But it's been a long time
20:56I officially got my gun license
20:59So now I can carry a gun around
21:01And that's going to be really important
21:03For my family
21:04Because I can carry a gun to protect us
21:07Because out here
21:08You never know what's going to come
21:10It could be bears
21:11Wolves
21:13Which is definitely a reality up here
21:16The more I practice
21:23The better I'll be
21:25For when the situation does come
21:26It's been easy
21:28For Emily
21:30It's been a while
21:31So she's just going to have to practice
21:34Sometimes I'm a little competitive
21:38So I'm looking forward to trying it out
21:41And I'm sure it'll come back
21:42All right
21:45Targets are up
21:47That's really far
21:49Yeah
21:50Nigig
21:51You good?
21:52Yeah
21:53So what am I shooting at?
21:56Aim for the cans
21:56It would help if I take the safety off
22:05Oh yeah
22:06Bullseye
22:13That's right
22:14All right
22:15Do it again
22:15Oh yeah
22:22You got it again
22:22Nice
22:26Still got it
22:29Okay
22:29I think that's good for now
22:30I'll do two rounds
22:32You didn't get it
22:40Oh no
22:41All right
22:42One more
22:42The wind got it
22:51Yeah
22:53This is a lever action
22:5630-30
22:57This thing is for a bigger game
23:02Like a moose
23:03Caribou
23:04Polar bear
23:05And wolves
23:07Aim for the box
23:10Shot right here
23:30Close to the bullseye
23:32And then the three right here
23:34Right in the plus
23:35I'm pretty happy
23:39About the target shooting
23:41Proud of myself
23:42I want to practice
23:44Some more
23:44With different guns
23:45But you know
23:46I feel very confident
23:47Knowing that
23:48I still got it
23:49Gilbert did pretty well
23:53On his own too
23:54I mean
23:54I've never doubted him
23:55He's a very sharp shooter
23:57I think it's good
24:00We make a really good team
24:01Now we fish
24:03You only take what you need
24:14Fishing, hunting
24:16It's a really important teaching
24:17In the Cree culture
24:18And in the community
24:19We just take what our family needs
24:23And everything of the animal
24:25Gets used
24:25We don't waste anything
24:27Except for my time
24:29Right here on this hole
24:30Oh yeah
24:32I got a fish
24:34Brook trout
24:35Brook trout
24:36That's about
24:3620 inch
24:38That's going to feed
24:39Our whole family
24:40One supper
24:40Yeah
24:40That's a good meal
24:41Nageg
24:42Don't think about it
24:43Oh yeah
24:47Got another one
24:50You're running with a fish
24:52Whoa
24:57That might beat the record
24:59My record
25:0023, 22
25:02Mine was 24
25:04Yeah
25:04It's so good
25:05Must have been there for a while
25:07It's not even moving anymore
25:08Oh
25:08Drown himself maybe
25:09How do you drown the fish?
25:12Being out here
25:24You have to follow your gut feeling
25:27And just your own instinct
25:29You feel like you're part of the land
25:32You're just like another animal
25:35I'm still pretty worried
25:41Because there's those two other wolves
25:42And it was a weird feeling
25:45To know that they were circling
25:46And staying that close
25:48Right after I shot the wolf at camp
25:56I followed the two other wolves tracks
26:01The next day
26:02And they all came here
26:03And I found their beds
26:04They're just 20 years from here
26:07So I put snares
26:09And a bit of bait all over it
26:10Wolves are usually pretty scared
26:15And aware of humans
26:16So they don't really come close to camp
26:18But right now it's the mating season
26:21So it's mostly a danger for dogs
26:23Okay
26:24Let's go
26:25Come on back
26:26If a male smell another male
26:29And thinks it's a competitor
26:31He's gonna come and try to get rid of him
26:35So I'm trying to catch them
26:38Before they catch Cade
26:39You can't just put a bunch of snares
26:44In the middle of the trail
26:45Hoping they'll just go through
26:47You have to find the proper spot
26:49It has to be somewhere
26:53Where it's pretty dense
26:55So it's somewhere
26:55Where it has to go through
26:57This specific path
26:58Wolves are so smart
27:01So you have to be smarter than them
27:03That's where I found their beds
27:07There are three beds
27:09Right here
27:09It's covered by the snow now
27:11But they're sleeping here
27:13That's where I dropped the bait
27:15Something has been eating
27:17It was a big pile
27:19And this fish has been dragged
27:21There was a couple big fish like this
27:22Someone is having a feast
27:24But no wolf tracks so far
27:45Okay, that's good enough
27:47One thing would be here
27:53So the water will float
27:55When I open the tap
27:58It will go all the way here
28:00The cold water will just warm up
28:03It will go up
28:04Our thermos siphon
28:05All the way up
28:06And that will get inside here
28:09And it will go like a whole circle
28:11Same water all the time
28:14So one hole here
28:16And one hole on the top
28:18Still learning a lot
28:25Because living in the woods
28:26I'm learning every day
28:29Everything you do for the first time
28:32It's hard
28:33But when you don't give up
28:35If you push your limit
28:36And you have to will
28:38To learn
28:39It opens a new world
28:42And this is why
28:44Allowed it
28:45There we go
28:49And I have to do some soldering here
28:52And here
28:52To make sure there is no leaks
28:54What the hell
29:09I have no clue why it's not working
29:19It doesn't hold
29:24Every step
29:28It's a challenge
29:29Every step
29:30It's a surprise
29:32Just making a nice little square here
29:54This is just to catch the beam
29:57I think a chisel
30:03Is probably one of the most satisfying tools
30:04It's very peaceful
30:07I think that'll do
30:10Just to live in a place
30:14Where I can walk out of my front door
30:15And just build a bed
30:16It brings me great
30:18Great happiness
30:19Really do feel free out here
30:21The big thing is though
30:24With this bed
30:24All green wood
30:26So I'm building all this
30:27It's all nice and tight now
30:28But as it dries out
30:30In a nice warm cabin
30:30Over the next couple months
30:31It's all going to shrink a lot
30:33Classic case of shrinkage
30:36It's coming to the territory
30:37You live in a cold place
30:54This is where the glue comes in
30:56All right
31:00Ooh, that's a solid bed
31:05Ooh, it's heavier than a piece of lumber
31:09Oh, God
31:16I'm going to have so many good sleeps
31:18In this thing
31:18I've got a real bedroom now
31:21It really is a dream come true
31:23I've always wanted this
31:24Just a pile of logs
31:26That's all this was
31:27Let's look at the old
31:29Chainsaw shavings on her
31:31So much more space
31:37That's the guest room
31:39Right now it's watertight
31:42Insulated
31:43I mean, that's all I really care about
31:45There's so much work
31:46And now it's almost time to kick back
31:49And just enjoy it
31:51Come around
31:52Oh, yeah
31:54This life definitely isn't for everyone
31:56But at the end of the day
31:58It's a very simple
31:59And very fulfilling life
32:00Let me show you a bit
32:02Legally, you have to check your traps
32:17Every couple days
32:18And reset them if you need to
32:20It doesn't matter if the weather is the storm
32:24Or if it's minus 50
32:26If you have traps out
32:28You have to go and check it
32:29It's a nice martin
32:39It's a really nice collar
32:41And it's a good strike
32:43Right on the neck
32:44It's good
32:45This area is pretty good
32:48So far I've got a couple catch on this trail
32:50I'm going to bring it back
32:52Just keep it for myself
32:54I can use the fur to make an insert for my big mitts
32:59Or even for trimming on a coat or on a hat
33:02It's a nice fur
33:04It's pretty warm
33:05So it will be useful for sure
33:07Sometimes people think like trappers
33:15Just want to kill animals
33:16And doesn't give a about lives
33:18Yeah, you have to kill animals
33:21To be here
33:22But it's not just because we want to kill, kill, kill
33:29We appreciate that lifestyle
33:33I've been thawing this wolf for a little more than three days now
33:52He was completely frozen
33:55It takes a while
33:56Yeah, I love skinning animals
33:59Actually, it sounds weird
34:01But it's kind of a meditation for me
34:03You're also thanking the animal
34:05And taking care of the pelt
34:07You want to do a good job
34:10First of all
34:10For the respect of the animal
34:12Because you took his life
34:14So you have to take great care
34:16And maybe you have to do a good job until the end
34:19It's a long process
34:22Four or five hours of work
34:24You've got to be careful to not catch yourself
34:27I'm going to keep it for now
34:31As a full pelt
34:33If you want to live this lifestyle here in the north
34:38You have to be able to hunt
34:40To trap
34:40To fish
34:41You can make your own clothes
34:43You can eat
34:44You can do everything
34:45If you have the skills
34:47That's the life I want
34:50I have no clue why soldering doesn't stick well
35:12Everything is so cold
35:15Like crazy cold
35:16Maybe if I warm up the copper pipe
35:20The solder will hold better
35:22All right, I got it
35:31I need to warm it up a little bit more
35:33It's working great
35:35It's not the nicest looking
35:37But it's working
35:40People think living in nature is suffering
35:50But for me, it's not
35:53With time and knowledge and experience
35:56You learn how to live
35:58And have an easier life in the woods
36:00It's like I'm making moonshine
36:22I don't know if it's going to work
36:25I'm feeling again a bit, you know, worried
36:29But now it's the test time
36:31Very stressful
36:34I'm just going to turn on the tap
36:38Cold water will float all the way here
36:41And of course
36:43I need another one
36:44The other water hose
36:48At the other hand
36:49It will just go up
36:51And back into the tank
36:53All the heat is coming from this wood stove
36:57This is the plan
36:58Moment of truth
37:00Yeah, it's working
37:08It's going up
37:10It's going up
37:11And it's warm
37:12Very warm
37:13There is some leaks here
37:16Even small, tiny leaks
37:19That I can do it later
37:20I wanted hot water
37:22I'm going to get hot water
37:24Oh my god
37:27Woohoo
37:28It's going up so fast
37:30Woohoo
37:32That's a lot of power
37:38It's working great
37:40This is now actually a hot water system
37:43No more cold water
37:46No more cold feet
37:48This is the end result
37:57I have hot water on tap
38:00I'm so happy
38:01I've gotten ready to go
38:03To wash the dishes
38:04You know, wash my hands
38:06My face
38:07And I'm good at least for two days
38:10I will say
38:10It's a great improvement
38:12To my homestead
38:14Making your life easier
38:18In the woods
38:18Is not a bad thing
38:21It's a goal
38:22Is that so nice?
38:37Does that look good?
38:42Yeah
38:42Go check it out
38:44There's no door yet
38:47It's going to be right here
38:48Do you think this is going to be a really nice home?
38:51Yeah
38:52I think the kids are happy to see what we've been up to
38:55Working on building our new home
38:58They seem to really enjoy being here
39:01Can't wait to show it to them once it's all done
39:03Who wants snowshoes on?
39:09Me
39:10We're going to go make the snow flat
39:13So we can build our teepee
39:14Mikael, come put your foot on
39:17Other foot
39:18Let's go pack down some snow
39:24You guys ready?
39:27Alright, let's walk around
39:28Stomp the snow
39:31Try to stomp the snow with your snowshoes
39:33Brooke's doing good
39:36Annie, you're doing really good
39:37Come on Mikael
39:38Gotta make it flat
39:39You guys did a really good job
39:44We're going to build a teepee
39:46That is part of my culture
39:48And I'm going to share it with Mikael
39:50And Brooke
39:50And Annie
39:51They're going to see how it's done
39:53It's very important for my children
39:57To learn the old ways
39:59And use the land
40:00Traditions is an extremely important thing
40:03And being on the land is a tradition
40:06Alright
40:09Yeah, keep holding it, Annie
40:11You're doing really good
40:12Yeah, pick it up and smack it down
40:17Yeah, see?
40:20Come here, Mikael
40:21I need your help
40:21Come hold it
40:23Or not
40:26They're kids, you know
40:29For now
40:30They might somewhat be interested
40:33But their attention's a little bit short
40:35And that's okay
40:37As long as they kind of see us doing it
40:38And they're seeing how it's made
40:40Eventually, though
40:41They'll want to help
40:42How is it?
40:45It's good
40:45And once we put the spruce branches down
40:49They'll be really nice and cozy
40:50And it'll smell like Christmas
40:51I'm embracing my French culture
40:55And Gilbert's Cree culture
40:57And we're blending it together for our kids
40:59We call them the French Cree
41:01I want to make it cozy for the kids
41:04It's warmer this way
41:06Can't even feel the cold
41:08This doesn't gross me out
41:14Being a nurse, I did the OR a little bit
41:18The operating room
41:19I saw a lot
41:20I think this is good
41:22But we have to clean it first, though
41:24Is that yellow snow?
41:28No
41:29If we were closer to the river
41:32We'd just be using river water
41:33When you're out here and it's the winter
41:35Just use what you have, which is snow
41:38And it does a really good job
41:40It's always exciting when we get fresh brook trout
41:44We cook everything, even the head
41:45And that's Gilbert's favorite part
41:47The cheeks, yeah, it's really tender
41:49Even the eyeballs he eats
41:51This is just a tail
41:53And it gets really crispy
41:55Eat it like a chip
41:56Gilbert and Annie fight over it
41:58Look at this one
42:05Oh, wow
42:08It's so good
42:09They're gonna love it
42:14Fish
42:16You want fish?
42:17Yeah, I want fish eyes
42:18Can I?
42:20And it's gonna get fish eyes
42:21It's so good, isn't it?
42:25Mealtime for our family
42:27Whether it's at a table
42:29Or whether it's outside in a teepee
42:32It's always my favorite part of the day
42:34Because we get to sit down, eat food, and talk
42:38What do you guys think about the new place here?
42:41Good!
42:42It's really calm and I like going camping
42:46Me too
42:47I'm really looking forward to doing this more often
42:50We're doing this for the kids
42:54Being together and being outside
42:57This is what life's all about
43:00This is what life's all about
