00:08Sony's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is kicking things off for its opening weekend
00:12with a box office bang. Quentin Tarantino's star-studded film took in an impressive
00:16$5.8 million in Thursday night previews alone. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,
00:21strong Thursday night ticket sales are right on par with bigger franchise titles that
00:25dropped this summer, including Dark Phoenix, which had $5 million, Detective
00:29Pikachu with $5.7 million and John Wick 3 with $6 million. Sony is predicting a domestic
00:36opening in the $30 million range, but box office analysts believe it could come in closer
00:40to $40 million plus. And if analysts are correct, Tarantino's ninth film could end up
00:45earning the director his biggest opening weekend ever, even beating out his current
00:49record holder in Glorious Bastards, which brought in $38 million at the box office.
00:53Once Upon a Time in Hollywood stars Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie.
00:58The film showcases Hollywood in the summer of 1969 and follows Rick Dalton, played by
01:02DiCaprio, the former star of a western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff
01:07Booth, played by Pitt, who are struggling to make it into Hollywood they don't recognize
01:11anymore. Robbie plays Sharon Tate, Rick's very famous next-door neighbor, and the actress
01:16and wife of Roman Polanski, who was tragically murdered by Manson followers.
01:19The film is likely Tarantino's most expensive movie to date, costing a reported $90 million
01:24before marketing, and also marks the filmmaker's first film without the aid of Harvey Weinstein.
