00:00I think I should start with congratulations. This is not an administration that has sought to
00:05run a lot of its foreign policy through the United Nations, but you did seek and obtain
00:11a UN Security Council resolution supporting the Gaza peace deal this week. Can you just tell us
00:19a little bit about why you wanted the UN's backing for this and the concrete next steps
00:25you're looking for from here? Well, yeah, thank you. It was quite a vote. I think history will look
00:33back on it as one of the most consequential votes the United Nations has taken in quite some time,
00:39and essentially what it did was endorse and welcome the Board of Peace chaired by the United
00:48States. And underneath that, you will have essentially an international fund largely managed
00:55by the World Bank to which countries can contribute for the reconstruction, rebuilding, even supporting
01:03the stabilization of Gaza. So that's one. Number two, there will be a technocratic administration
01:11of Palestinians, apolitical, largely overseen by the board. But these will be technocrats responsible
01:21for electricity, sewage, water, really getting basic government services back in place. And then
01:28importantly, and to answer your question most directly, many countries wanted and needed the
01:34UN's blessing to send troops in for the stabilization of Gaza, countries that were having quite positive
01:41conversations with like Azerbaijan, Indonesia and others. And all of this stemmed from the historic
01:48gathering that we had at Sharm el-Sheikh, which led to the ceasefire in Gaza so many had been crying
01:58for for so long, and also the release of the hostages. We still have three remains that are being brutally
02:05held and used as negotiating chips by the terrorist group Hamas. But, you know, again, we've had two
02:13years of devastating war. And our argument to the United Nations was, you know, everyone can find flaws
02:21in this plan, I'm sure. But it's either this moving forward, or a return to war between Israel and
02:28Hamas, and certainly no one wants that.
