00:00So J.D. Vance once again is insisting that the C-Star remains intact and yet we have seen these

00:05strikes out of the IDF once again on Gaza overnight. What is the justification for those

00:10strikes? Good morning Jermaine. Well yes indeed this truce is just about two and a half weeks

00:15old. This was the second big test, the second surge of bloodshed. It emerges this morning,

00:21the Israeli military saying one of its soldiers was killed yesterday morning in an attack

00:26in the southern Gaza Strip that it blamed on Hamas. That appears to have drawn that lethal

00:32Israeli response. This is something the Israelis are very unhappy with. They thought they put

00:38major warfare behind them. They still have thousands if not tens of thousands of troops

00:42patrolling the Israeli controlled side of the Gaza Strip as part of the Trump plan, as part of the

00:48ceasefire deal. And that bloodshed comes against the backdrop of growing rancor in Israel, in the

00:54United States. Hamas's failure to deliver all of the hostage bodies to Israel as required of it

01:01by that ceasefire. There was video yesterday suggesting strongly that Hamas had basically

01:06dressed up a recovery of body parts as if they were found underground, whereas in fact Hamas had

01:13been keeping them in a building. There is a sense that Hamas is drawing out this phase in order to avoid

01:18the difficult questions of the later stages of the Trump plan. But as you noted, when it comes to the

01:24major stakeholder, the major foreign stakeholder here, the United States, the guarantor of this deal,

01:30they believe, the Trump administration believes, that this ceasefire is still intact. That would

01:34suggest everyone is drawing a line under this exchange of fire yesterday. However, it's certainly

01:40been jarring for Palestinians, for Israelis, and observers hoping to see the ceasefire evolve into a lasting peace.
