00:14Welcome to Scroll Patrol.
00:16We're gonna be looking at some of my old photos.
00:20Going through my phone and seeing what
00:22I should have deleted.
00:25Here's some real old photos from the 1900s.
00:29Let's get to my origin story, y'all.
00:32This picture is February 22nd, 1995.
00:35The first time I ever performed,
00:37which is when I say Nicole was born.
00:40And I was Nicole Paige.
00:41Nicole was a girl from high school
00:43and Paige is Betty Paige.
00:45And actually it's P-A-G-E is how she spells it.
00:48So I've been spelling my name wrong for
00:50about 20 years now.
00:54This was a pageant for people who'd never done drag before.
00:57And it was a little AIDS charity fundraiser.
01:00So during the pageant, whoever reads the most tips
01:03ended up being the winner.
01:04So I was a very social person already.
01:06So I knew everybody.
01:07And they're like, you should do this pageant.
01:09So I did that and I won it.
01:11And then I ended up doing all the charity events.
01:13But this was baby Nicole.
01:16And then I left Oklahoma City and went to Memphis
01:19and stopped kind of doing drag.
01:21And then when I moved from Memphis to Atlanta,
01:27and when I was single, I started doing drag again
01:29because I saw Shawna at Backstreet.
01:34I became obsessed with her.
01:35I started following her everywhere.
01:37Like every gig she had, she was like,
01:39she makes fun of me.
01:40She tells a story about how,
01:41yeah, you were there with your little penny loafers
01:43in your haircut.
01:45Because I would come straight from work
01:46when I was managing Rich's China Crystal Silver Department.
01:49I was like, I was straight from work to the show.
01:51I had to go see Shawna.
01:52This is probably maybe 99.
01:57This is right when I first started hanging out with Shawna.
01:59And I first started back doing drag.
02:01And I used to paint a little heart on my cheek
02:04for my friend John Tate.
02:05Look how little and young I am.
02:07That baby, that child is a baby.
02:09Oh, brings a little tear to my eye.
02:13This is before I was really performing in Atlanta.
02:15But in 2000, me and Lauren LeMasters,
02:18we were going to Miss USA for Heather Daniels.
02:21And we're like, we're quitting our day jobs together.
02:23And yet I haven't had a day job since the 1900s.
02:26Not really a full-time one, you know what I mean?
02:28I say Nicole, I'm a kept man.
02:30Nicole has paid all my bills.
02:32And Brian does Nicole's schedule
02:33and makes her costumes and does her hair.
02:35And then Nicole pays all the bills.
02:38And then I started performing.
02:40That was Nicole Paige.
02:41And Shawna took me under her wing.
02:43And then for her birthday one year, I added Brooks.
02:46She's like, well, if you're my daughter,
02:47why don't you have my last name?
02:48And I was like, I was just starting to get in print
02:50as Nicole Paige in print.
02:51I was like, I don't want to confuse people.

02:59performed at Starlight Cabaret.

03:11We all did Wednesday night at Backstreet with Juan Cesar.

03:17We were backstage making those outfits.
03:19Because Chloe didn't bring anything.
03:22So we were cutting up scraps and making her outfit.
03:25It was crazy.
03:26Charlie Brown, when she booked me for Backstreet,
03:28I kept that voice message on my answer machine for like years.
03:32I used to play it at parties.
03:34When I got booked at Backstreet with Shawna in them.
03:36She's like, Nicole, can you work?
03:39It was so, girl.
03:41And I was like, oh my God.
03:42Charlie Brown called me and booked me.
03:45I used to play it at parties, girl.
03:47I mean, yeah.
03:48So it was before cell phones.
03:50Or before I had one anyway.
03:52When did I even?
03:53I don't remember when I got my first cell phone.

04:02Ladies and gentlemen, this is your contestant number two.
04:04Compete for the title of Best Gay Cop County.
04:07And we're now with Nicole, Miss Brooks.
04:11This is me winning the only patent I ever won,

04:16This was actually in my audition video for Drag Race.
04:19The clip that they show, the girls that almost made it onto
04:23season one, they played this clip.
04:26And my name is Nicole.

04:33I'm a fairly normal gay man with a two-year-old son,
04:37living in Atlanta, Georgia, and wearing women's clothing for a living.
04:40I don't really see a big deal this.
04:41I was at brunch at Joe's on Juniper right there in Atlanta.
04:48And my friend was like, RuPaul's having a contest.
04:52I've already got it all filled out.
04:53I just need you to come approve these pictures.
04:55I put your bio up there.
04:56He's like, you're going to do it.
04:57This is going to be so sickening.
04:58They got to vote you up to the top, blah, blah, blah.
05:00And I was like, okay.
05:01So then after like, you know, brunch, who knows what happened during that.
05:05I went over there and I said, yeah, approve the photos.
05:07And they went live.
05:08And then they voted, Atlanta voted me up, you know, to the top.
05:12I just wanted to say thank you to everybody that's helped vote me to the top of RuPaul's Drag Race's for Logo.
05:17And they were all like, we're erasing our cookies and voting for you and all.
05:22I don't know, didn't know what that meant until way after.
05:26And didn't make it.
05:29Ghosted by Drag Race.
05:34But then I think there was a conversation where you all just send us another tape for season two.
05:38Hey bitches, how y'all doing?
05:39My name is Brian Christopher Pryor and I am your next Drag Superstar.
05:44And so I think we revamped the original one with a few more things that they added to.
05:50And it was like nothing compared to the audition tapes now.

07:50I was doing the drag cons, going to the finales, just, you know,
07:54maintaining my legacy with Drag Race is what I was like really trying to do.
07:58And I was really thinking about figuring out a way to phase Nicole out
08:01to just charity work before All Stars 10.
08:04So now we have to figure something else out, I guess.
08:08My drag aesthetic is a female impersonator.
08:11And that's not really where the pendulum has swung.
08:15So I'm glad that to be welcomed back, you know,
08:18and people are enjoying my vibe, you know,
08:21because I was kind of thinking that this was, yeah,
08:24I was going to be phasing Nicole out in my 50s.
08:27But now it looks like it might be my 70s or 80s.
08:31Here's to Nicole's origin story and to another successful 30 years.
