White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt forcefully denied that Donald Trump was calling for executions after he accused six Democratic lawmakers of "sedition," a crime "punishable by death." Trump reposted clips labeling the lawmakers "traitors," including one saying "HANG THEM." When reporter asked if Trump wanted members of Congress executed, Leavitt rejected the claim. The lawmakers’ video urged U.S. service members to "refuse illegal orders," prompting Trump’s reaction.

00:00President Trump accused six Democratic lawmakers of seditious behavior
00:05punishable by death just to be clear does the president want to execute
00:10members of Congress no let's be clear about what the president is responding
00:15to because many in this room want to talk about the president's response but
00:19not what brought the president to responding in this way you have sitting
00:25members of the United States Congress who conspired together to orchestrate a
00:31video message to members of the United States military to active duty service
00:36members to members of the national security apparatus encouraging them to
00:41defy the president's lawful orders the sanctity of our military rests on the
00:48chain of command and if that chain of command is broken it can lead to people
00:52getting killed it can lead to chaos and that's what these members of Congress
00:57who swore an oath to to abide by the Constitution are essentially encouraging
01:02we have 1.3 active duty service members in this country and if they hear this
01:07radical message from sitting members of Congress that could inspire chaos and it
01:12could incite violence and it certainly could disrupt the chain of command these
01:17three members of Congress I will also add knew exactly what they were doing you
01:20look at Alyssa Slotkin she's a former member of the CIA Mark Kelly was a
01:25captain in the US Navy Maggie Goodlander was a naval officer and notably she was
01:30also she is also the wife of Joe Biden's national security former advisor Jake
01:35Sullivan and so these members knew what they were doing they were leading into
01:39their credentials as former members of our military as veterans as former
01:43members of the national security apparatus to signal to people serving under this
01:48commander-in-chief Donald Trump that you can defy him and you can betray your
01:53oath of office that is a very very dangerous message message and it perhaps is
01:58punishable by law I'm not a lawyer I'll leave that to the Department of Justice
02:02and the Department of War to decide but the president has frequently but Caroline can I just
02:06follow up the president and the vice president for that matter have accused the
02:10other side of encouraging political violence isn't that exactly what the
02:14president is doing when he says that members of Congress should be killed why
02:18aren't you talking about what these members of Congress are doing to
02:21encourage it incite violence they are literally saying to 1.3 million active
02:26duty service members not to defy the chain of command not to follow lawful orders
02:32every single illegal order but they are saying but they're suggesting they're
02:37suggesting Nancy that the president has given illegal orders which he has not every
02:43single order that is given to this United States military by this commander in
02:47chief and through this command chain of command through the secretary of war is
02:50lawful and the courts have proven that this administration has an unparalleled
02:55record at the Supreme Court because we are following the laws we don't defy court
03:00orders we do things by the books and to suggest and encourage that active duty
03:06service members defy the chain of command is a very dangerous thing for
03:10sitting members of Congress to do subscribe to one India and never miss an update
