00:00Thank you. I'm ranking member Robert Persia for Oversight Democrats. I'm going to make some brief statements as well, my
00:08colleagues, and then perhaps a question or two, and then we'll get back to the deposition. As a reminder, this
00:13deposition has now gone on for about two hours, two hours plus, two and a half hours, and so it
00:17will continue throughout the day.
00:19And so I'm going to be also respectful of not being specific, but we do have some overall statements to
00:26make. And a lot of this obviously ties into what the Secretary has already put out herself in her opening
00:31statement.
00:32I just want to begin by just clarifying and putting emphasis on something that's very important, and it's something the
00:39Secretary herself has said.
00:40One, Secretary Clinton never met Jeffrey Epstein. She never visited the island. She never flew on his plane.
00:49She also had no knowledge of Jeffrey Epstein's horrific crime, so zero knowledge of any wrongdoing.
00:58You've also all heard that directly from her. Secretary Clinton is also completely cooperating with the deposition and the committee.
01:10And is answering questions in full faith and in good faith.
01:16What is not acceptable is oversight Republicans breaking their own committee rules that they established with the Secretary and her
01:27team,
01:28which you've all reported and you've seen by releasing photos.
01:31Not acceptable, and it was gracious of the Secretary and her team to continue the deposition.
01:38What we also want to say at this very moment is it's becoming more clear every single day is the
01:46questions continue to build around this DOJ and the White House and the focus of the majority.
01:53We want to understand, right now, where the missing FBI files are.
02:00These are files that accuse the President of the United States about serious, serious accusations around sexual abuse and the
02:11fact that they're not in the files that have been apparently either removed or discarded is incredibly concerning.
02:21And so we're calling on Attorney General Panbani to immediately release those files.
02:27And lastly, I want to also add that this committee has now set a new precedent about talking to presidents
02:35and former presidents.
02:37And we're demanding immediately that we ask President Trump to testify in front of our committee and be deposed in
02:46front of oversight Republicans and Democrats.
02:48And that should happen immediately.
02:50He is the person that appears almost more than anyone else in the committee.
02:53And it needs to happen right now.
02:55Mr. Chairman, do you distinguish it all between a president and a former president and a sitting president?
03:01I mean, is there something in there because they will say, wait a minute, we know, I think, look, I
03:04think the court ruled on that we should we should depose the person that is mentioned in the Epstein files
03:12almost more than any other person next to Ghislaine Maxwell.
03:15And that's Donald Trump.
03:16We're going to we're going to have a couple of comments and then we're going to go ahead.
03:19I'm going to answer a couple of questions.
03:23House Republicans need to get serious about this investigation.
03:27I understand now fully why Secretary Clinton wanted to make this deposition in her hearing public, because the reality is
03:36we are talking to the wrong person today who we should be talking to instead are people who are actually
03:41mentioned in the files, people who have made misleading statements about their relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.
03:47Earlier today, Chairman Comer mentioned being open to talking to Secretary Lutnik.
03:52Well, let's get him in.
03:53Let's talk to Secretary Lutnik instead.
03:55Let's talk to someone who is neighbors, but Jeffrey Epstein, who actually associated with Jeffrey Epstein, not someone who had
04:01never, ever met Jeffrey Epstein to their knowledge.
04:04And so let's try to talk about people who will help us with our investigation.
04:07And let's release the two and a half million files so we can know who else to talk to.
04:12And so we can do right by the victims and actually bring justice.
04:18I'm Congresswoman Yasemin Ansari representing Arizona's third district.
04:22I am extremely, extremely appalled by the Republican chairman's behavior today and by the behavior of the entire committee and
04:32how unserious they are about this investigation.
04:37Let's remind the country about what we are actually talking about.
04:41Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell and a list of many rich and powerful people from around the United States and around
04:50the world abused and raped more than a thousand people who were children, many of whom were children at the
04:59time.
04:59And today we are sitting through an incredibly unserious clown show of a deposition where members of Congress and the
05:08Republican Party are more concerned about getting their photo op of Secretary Clinton than actually getting to the truth and
05:16holding anyone accountable.
05:18I also want to talk about the reporting from this week and the fact that we now know that the
05:24Department of Justice in their ongoing cover up, the most egregious cover up in American history, intentionally seem to have
05:33redacted more or withheld more than 50 pages of allegations from a minor against President Trump.
05:39Do not forget that Kash Patel went in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee and said under oath that the
05:48FBI had no credible allegations of any other people being involved in this child sex trafficking operation.
05:56These documents that the Department of Justice intentionally has withheld from the American public in regard to the allegations against
06:04President Trump came from the FBI.
06:06The FBI had interviewed this witness four times.
06:11You do not do that if it is not serious.
06:14So Kash Patel needs to be immediately brought back before the Oversight Committee.
06:18He needs to answer these questions again, and we need answers immediately.
06:22Again, America is watching, young people in this country are watching to see if powerful people will continue to protect
06:29other powerful people and whether or not Congress will actually hold these perpetrators accountable.
06:38Wesley Bell, Missouri's first congressional district.
06:42And as a former prosecutor, I've been involved in leading investigations and serious offenses.
06:49And this ain't it.
06:51What we're seeing is political theater.
06:54What we're seeing is folks that are looking for headlines and tweets as opposed to doing the business of going
07:02about getting justice for the victims in this case and survivors in this case, I should say, as well.
07:11And I think that that's what I think some of our friends on the other side are losing sight of
07:15is that we are here to to to to make certain that justice is served.
07:21And and it's important for us.
07:24And as oversight members to do our job to ensure that all the evidence, any information is heard and that
07:33any victims, any survivors, voices are heard as well.
07:38And that's what we're supposed to be doing.
07:40And so what we're seeing today is a we have not learned one new thing.
07:46The secretary is here.
07:48The secretary is here.
07:48She is more than happy to have all of you come in there and into this deposition and hear her
07:54out.
07:55But there are there are those on the other side of the aisle who do not want that for whatever
08:00reason.
08:00And so we're going to continue to push for justice.
08:02We're going to continue to work to make certain that the victims and survivors are given their due and their
08:08voices are heard.
08:09And that justice is ultimately served.
08:14I'm James Walkinshaw from Virginia's 11th district.
08:17The Trump administration's treatment of the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein's crimes has been a callous disregard.
08:26We've seen that in his refusal to release the files.
08:30We saw that this week at the State of the Union was his with his refusal to acknowledge the survivors
08:36who were in the chamber.
08:38However, one of the things that's been confirmed today is that in addition to having no relationship with Jeffrey Epstein,
08:47Secretary Clinton had has no relationship with Ghislaine Maxwell.
08:52But there are important questions we should be asking the Trump administration about Ghislaine Maxwell.
08:59And I hope that our Republican colleagues will join us in asking these questions.
09:04Why is it that Donald Trump has refused to rule out the pardon, the clemency, that Ghislaine Maxwell is campaigning
09:13for?
09:15We held a deposition in this committee with Ghislaine Maxwell.
09:18She used that deposition as an opportunity to campaign for a pardon.
09:22Chairman Comer then walked out before many of you and gave her talking points as to why she should get
09:29a pardon.
09:30Donald Trump needs to direct Attorney General Bondi to release all the files, to unredact the illegal redactions,
09:39and he needs to unequivocally rule out a pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell, who is a monster, convicted of child sex
09:50trafficking.
09:50Why has he not ruled out pardoning her?
09:54Why did the Deputy Attorney General spend hours with her?
09:57And then why was she transferred to a cushy, lower security prison?
10:02Those are important questions we should be asking about Ghislaine Maxwell.
10:06We no longer have to ask whether there's any relationship between Secretary Clinton and Ghislaine Maxwell.
10:12There was not.
10:13I'm going to answer a couple of questions.
10:16I'm going to answer a question.
10:17One statement, then one question.
10:18The last thing I'm going to say, and I'm going to begin with a question, is we want to make
10:22a very clear demand right now,
10:24which is that the full transcript, unedited, of the Secretary's questions and the answers need to be released by the
10:34majority in the next 24 hours.
10:37The public and the American people have a right to know exactly what she said, what questions were asked of
10:44her, and how she responded.
10:46That's transparency.
10:47She herself requested that the press and the public be allowed into the deposition.
10:54That was denied.
10:55And so at a very minimum, they need to immediately release the full transcript.
11:00And we're hopeful that tomorrow, for the former president, that the press would be allowed in and the public as
11:04well.
11:04That's been the request.
11:05Thank you, Mr. Ranking Member.
11:06How did that leaked photo get out, and do you believe there should be any repercussions?
11:10Well, the repercussions should come from the majority and from Chairman Comer.
11:13I mean, it was very clear that that leaked photo was sent out by a member.
11:18I think it's not hard to figure out what member that was by looking at the photo.
11:21And the fact that it was not just one photo, it was one photo and then a second post that
11:26also included a photo as well.
11:28And so that was completely against the rules.
11:31I think we're grateful that the Secretary continued the deposition, but not acceptable.
11:36The Secretary's been clear that she has no relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.
11:42She's never met Jeffrey Epstein.
11:43She said a few times that she has had encounters with Ghislaine Maxwell.
11:46She clarified what those meetings were like.
11:49Did she talk about Ghislaine Maxwell attending her daughter's wedding?
11:52Did you get any new insight into those interactions?
11:54I think, obviously, we can't get into specifics about the answers, but we will get all those as soon as
12:01the video is released.
12:02And so we have to be very careful about giving specifics about what was actually said in the deposition per
12:07committee rules,
12:08which is why we're demanding right now that James Comer and the Republicans release the full transcript
12:13where all the questions that were asked will be fully answered by Secretary Clinton.
12:16What I can say is that she, again, never met Jeffrey Epstein, never went to the island, never went to
12:22the plane,
12:22and had no knowledge of any of his crimes.
12:24This is completely unacceptable.
12:26When I asked him to Howard Lutnick, when Comer went in, he said it's a possibility.
12:29When I asked him if Lutnick could be subpoenaed, Mace then said she had an email printed out that she
12:33wanted to ask Clinton about.
12:35What was that line of questioning like in the room, and was there any discussion about moving forward on a
12:40request or a subpoena for Lutnick?
12:42We've made the request of Howard Lutnick.
12:44It is unacceptable that we have the Commerce Secretary who has lied and lied and lied about his relationships with
12:52Jeffrey Epstein,
12:52the fact that he went to the island, he went on the plane, he went into business with Jeffrey Epstein,
12:57and yet sat there in a chair with a reporter and lied to the American people.
13:01He should resign today, he should be removed from office, and at minimum should come before the committee.
13:06I think everyone's been clear that we need to hear from Howard Lutnick.
13:08Can you give us a line in the room, the questioning in the room?
13:10I want all of the Secretary's responses to be released immediately, or I want the press to be allowed in
13:18to get details on that.
13:19Can you give us a sense of what it was like in the room?
13:20Is this a very tense deposition?
13:22And also, can you give a little bit more color of what exactly happened when this moment on social media
13:27is shared?
13:28Was there back and forth about letting the press inside the room?
13:32What I can say is, obviously, everybody was very taken aback by the committee rules being essentially not enforced and
13:40certainly just broken immediately.
13:41That is not acceptable, especially when the Secretary said from day one that she wanted the press in the room.
13:48When the incident happened, I think this is something that can be reported,
13:51the Secretary's team continued to demand, even after the incident, to let the press into the room,
13:57because what was important for her is that her answers to the questions not be edited, that the video not
14:04be edited.
14:04And so we understand that, and we're committed to getting this video transcript out immediately.
14:09To be clear, she's answering every question.
14:11To be clear, she's answering all the questions.
14:14To be clear, she's answering all the questions.
14:16I think I can safely say that she's not taking the fifth.
14:18Mr. Garcia, in terms of her understanding of her husband's relationship with Jeffrey Epstein,
14:26is that something that she's been asked about?
14:27I want the full transcripts to be released immediately,
14:29and I think everything that she said in her testimony will be cleared.
14:32Thank you all very much.
14:41What message does the video will be out?
14:45I don't know when the transcript will be out.
14:47We've asked that they be out as quickly as possible, and then you can see everything.
14:51Madam Secretary, what was your reaction to your express vote in the hot tub?
