00:07I'm Jasmine Harmon and for almost 20 years I've been helping house hunters find their dream homes overseas.
00:13Today I'll be using all my skills to help Jasmine and David who know exactly what they're looking for.
00:19It's absolutely bang on. It's like the complete dream.
00:23And they fall fast for the spectacular Spanish vistas.
00:27Oh my word. It's just gorgeous. So like in every direction.
00:34And there are plenty more on offer at this secret hideaway in the hills.
00:38You could have wild parties, loud music. You're not disturbing anyone.
00:42You're not disturbing anyone. You can go skinny dipping in this pool without anyone.
00:46But at the end of the day, will I find Jasmine and David's perfect place in the sun?

00:52Given us a headache, unfortunately.
00:57After visiting Spain many times, Jasmine and David's dream is to raise their children surrounded by Andalusian charm.
01:10They firmly believe the whitewashed village of Competa with its warm and welcoming community is the perfect place to provide a wonderful upbringing for their family.
01:21With their UK property already on the market, all I need to do is find them a new permanent home.

01:29Jasmine, who owns her own travel agency, and David, a fleet engineer at a haulage company, live in Warrington and have been married for eight years.
01:39We have a good relationship.
01:41We think the same things, say the same things, do the same things, like the same things.
01:48Yeah, we always are.
01:50We'll like exchange a funny look with one another because we are completely.
01:55I think it's just what happens when you live together for a long time.
01:58You become so in tune, don't you?
01:59And they're definitely on the same page about their next adventure, moving to Competa in the Axarquia region of Spain with their six-year-old and two-year-old.
02:09They have a budget of £130,000 to find their dream home.
02:13Around a two-and-a-half-hour flight from the UK into Malaga and then less than an hour's drive takes you to the Axarquia region of Andalusia in southern Spain.
02:24The area is known for its stunning whitewashed villages, charming traditional havens with narrow winding streets surrounded by mountains and unspoiled countryside.
02:35There are olive trees and vineyards are plenty here.
02:38And it's just a short drive from the beach, so it's no wonder that the region is becoming increasingly well-known.
02:45Competa is one of the most popular whitewashed villages in the Axarquia region.
02:50With average property prices around 40% lower than at the coast, this Pueblo Blanco attracts buyers from all over the globe.
03:00Three-bedroom houses with little to no work to be done typically start at around £130,000.
03:06But well-priced properties are selling quickly, so Jasmine and David might need to be ready to move fast.
03:14Before we start the search, I'm meeting my house hunters to find out exactly what they're looking for.

03:25So, what is it that attracts you to this part of Spain? Have you visited here many times?
03:30Mm-hm. Yeah, I used to come as a teenager quite a bit with my mum, but we used to stay more on the coast and it just left a bit of an impression on me, I think.
03:38We've been here on holiday. We've been to near her a couple of times, so we've not actually been up this part, but we really, really like it.
03:44We watch lots about it on the internet and things like that.
03:46You've not been here before.
03:49What's your impression?
03:50We really like it.
03:51So you could live here? Yeah.
03:51Yeah? Yeah, definitely could live here.
03:53Yeah.
03:54We really, really like it. We're really looking forward to it, aren't we?
03:56Yeah, we are looking forward to it. And the scenery's obviously absolutely gorgeous as well.
04:00And I think you probably can't anticipate how hilly it is until you get here, but that's fine.
04:06We'll have really good, strong legs at the end of it, so...

04:11So, location-wise, what would be your ideal?
04:14I have obviously done heaps of research online.
04:18I think that Compater has got a bit more of, like, a, I guess, a bit more of an authentic way of life.
04:24But are you happy to look in some of the other villages around Compater as well as in Compater itself?
04:29Yes, definitely. We'll have to have a look round, but we've got our hearts set on Compater.
04:32Have you?
04:34When you're out here, how do you anticipate spending your free time?
04:39I'm going to be learning Spanish.
04:42And Jasmine's going to do some painting, isn't it, Jasmine?
04:44Are you?
04:45I do, uh, I do watercolour at home. It's one of my main, um, switch-offs, really.
04:51What's the dream, then? Can you describe your perfect home to me?
04:56For me, it's the absolute typical, like, Andalusian townhouse, really.
05:02Like, whitewashed and, um, ideally with a blue front door, but, you know, we can...
05:07We can paint that if need to be.
05:08Um, but all of the charm, really, you know, like, beams, the, um, original tiles.
05:16We're looking outside space, at least three bedrooms, um, with a roof terraced.
05:21Walking distance from, like, the shops, um, local restaurants and school.
05:26So, I know you've got a budget of around £130,000.
05:32Is there any additional money?
05:34Yeah, we'll have a couple of thousand pounds, if it's the right property.
05:38Yeah.
05:38And, obviously, if we need to, then we don't mind.
05:40We don't want to miss out for just that little bit of money.
05:41I mean, to be honest, for the budget...
05:43It's going to be tight.
05:44Three bedrooms is...

05:46You know, they start at around £130,000.
05:49So, if you were to look at something with more bedrooms,
05:52then you're going to be looking at other compromises.

06:04We're kicking off this search in Competer, their perfect location.
06:08And, to be honest, I'm not surprised that this charming village is where they want to live.
06:13But, as they've never actually been here before,
06:15I want to stop and show them around.
06:17I hope they like it in person as much as they did online.
06:20So, to begin with, obviously, we had to come into the heart of Competer.
06:26This is Almigada Square.
06:28What do you two think of it?
06:30It's absolutely beautiful.
06:31Really nice.
06:32It's quite bustling, isn't it?
06:33Yeah.
06:33Absolutely.
06:34Very lively.
06:35Is this what you were expecting?
06:36Absolutely.
06:37I have walked through the streets online several times.
06:39Have you?
06:40So, you know your way around already.
06:41I don't need to show you around.
06:42One of the really big and very popular festivals that goes on is La Noche del Vino.
06:49The evening of wine.
06:51And they have Sevillana's flamenco and the local fandango dancing.
06:55So, that's something maybe that you would all enjoy as a family.
06:58Absolutely, yeah.
06:59I think it will be so much fun, won't it, to be involved in it.
07:02And to be able to just be five minutes from your house, hopefully, or a lot longer.
07:08As a matter of fact, the property we're going to look at is about a minute's walk from here.

07:16So, location-wise, it couldn't be more ideal, could it?

07:22It's no wonder they like it here, and they certainly aren't alone.
07:28Nearly 50% of the population aren't Spanish, and demand for two- to three-bedroom townhouses is high.
07:35But I've managed to find a bit of a quirky property in a great location, so I'm looking forward to seeing what they think.
07:41So, look, a stone's throw from the heart of the main square of Comfortur.
07:49We are looking at this townhouse.
07:52It's absolutely bang on.
07:53It's like the complete dream.

08:28I think the best feature of this townhouse is the stunning roof terrace with sea and mountain views.
08:34Inside on the ground floor is a living room, a kitchen with room for a small table and a compact shower room.
08:42Upstairs is a light and bright double bedroom with a Juliet balcony and another living room, which leads into a little conservatory.
08:51Definitely a sun trap.
08:52Up a further flight of stairs are two more good-sized double bedrooms, one of which has a door out and a staircase up to that roof terrace.

09:39I can imagine this being a nice master bedroom because that's just so perfect.
09:44The idea of, like, having it open and having it sat in bed, having a coffee is lovely.
09:50So, obviously, coming through those upper bedrooms to the roof terrace.
09:56You've got beautiful views of the mountains to this side, the village, down to the sea.

11:38I think that the upstairs is perfect, but the downstairs was, unfortunately, a bit of an anticlimax.

11:51I felt a compromise too far, unfortunately, which is a shame.
11:54So, was it a contender up until the bathroom?

12:15I'm taking them around a mile and a half away from Competer to Canillas de Alvaida, another
12:21beautiful whitewashed village, but a little smaller.
12:24Before we see the next property, I want Jasmine and David to get a bit of a feel for the area.
12:29So, this is a little bit of a departure from Competer, because we've come to a neighbouring
12:34village.
12:35It's kind of similar to Competer, but maybe on a smaller scale.
12:39Mm-hmm.
12:40So, you have about 800 residents that live here, but you've got a bank, you've got shops,
12:44you've got cafes, but it's a great spot for exploring, going hiking.
12:49Tell me what your thoughts are looking at a place in this village.
12:53It's nice, yeah, definitely worth a look around.
12:56It's really pretty.
12:57As soon as we walked into this square, it's just absolutely gorgeous.
13:01Obviously, it's very quiet.
13:02It is at the moment.
13:03Yeah.
13:04It does get busier.
13:05But I can imagine us here having a nice drink or a meal and the kids running around.
13:10So, where we're heading for this next property is about 12 minutes' walk from the square.

13:19If Jasmine and David want something with a layout that works better for their family,
13:24I'm hoping they will love what's coming up next.
13:27This three-bedroom, renovated townhouse with fantastic outside space and these magnificent views.
13:34Today, I'm in southern Spain, house hunting around the beautiful whitewashed village of Competa with Jasmine and David,
13:48who are looking for a home where they can start a new life with their two young children.
13:53And although the location of my first property was spot on, I'm going to have to work a lot harder if I want to impress them.
14:01They're looking for a family home where they can start a new chapter of their lives in the heart of a Spanish community for their maximum £130,000 and a couple more if we need it.
14:12They loved the views and character of my first house right in the heart of Competa, their dream location, but felt the kitchen and bathroom were too small.
14:20So, to try and improve on that, I've taken them around a seven-minute drive away to Canillas de Albaida.
14:26It's a much smaller village and prices here are around 5% cheaper than in Competa.
14:31So, I've lined up a house just on the outskirts with a lot more space inside.
14:35I'm intrigued to see what they think of it.
14:37We're actually looking at this house just here.
14:41It's a three-bedroom, plenty of outside space.
14:44But first of all, tell me what you're thinking about the location.
14:48I don't love the location. Sorry.
14:51Even though the facilities are within walking distance, it feels quite remote.
14:57The good thing, I think, about here is within about five minutes, you've got a restaurant.
15:01Within about seven minutes walk, you've got a supermarket.
15:05I know it's not right in the centre of the village like the last one, but that had other compromises,
15:09which I think will be resolved at this property.
15:13It's renovated inside, so there's really no work to do.
15:18It's on the market for just under £138,500.
15:23And the agent believes that there would be some room for negotiation down to basically the top end of your budget.
15:32Yeah.
15:33Price-wise, it sounds okay.
15:34And I think what you're saying about the house, it sounds like it could work.

15:42There's outdoor space on every level of this house with a cosy courtyard, a balcony and a roof terrace too, with the views improving the higher you go.
15:52The front door leads to an open hallway with a modern kitchen to the side.
15:57There's a lounge with room for dining and almost wall-to-wall windows to soak in that gorgeous view.
16:03Downstairs, there are three large bright double bedrooms, two of which have access onto the courtyard.
16:09And there's a spacious shower room too.
16:12You can see through this arch, you've got your kitchen.
16:15Oh, yeah.
16:16It's nice and modern, actually, isn't it?

16:19Probably wouldn't need much doing to it.
16:20That kitchen, I think, is way better connected, you know, to this space and to the outside space.
16:26So, you're not going to have to, you know, go up three storeys just if you've made a cup of tea or whatever.

19:55That was just done without even a second thought.
19:57You know, we met people on social media before we even moved here.
20:00We met people that wanted to help us and meet us and give us advice when we were on our
20:05viewing trip.
20:06And now we've got a whole, whole network of friends that feel like family here in Compete.
20:11It's such an amazing, beautiful community and it just welcome you in with open arms.
20:16Are there any things that you would say you've learned that you can pass on?
20:20I guess what I've learned is just to be resilient.
20:23You know, you've got an opportunity to create an amazing, amazing life for yourselves, all of you.
20:30No matter what hoops you have to jump through, whatever challenges come your way, just keep on
20:34battling and ask for help in this amazing community that we've got here.

21:11This charming townhouse in the heart of their favourite village.
21:17Today, I'm house hunting around the beautiful whitewashed village of Comforta, nestled in the Andalusian Mountains,
21:29helping Jasmine and David find their forever home full of character.
21:34My first two properties didn't quite hit the mark, but I'm feeling confident about what I've got lined up next.
21:42Jasmine and David are planning a permanent move to this area with their two young children, and have a maximum budget of £130,000, plus a smidge more if needed, to find their dream home in the heart of a Spanish community.
21:55And I'm getting closer, but not close enough.
21:58They loved this house in Canillas de Albaida, but thought the location was a bit remote.
22:04So, I've brought them back to Comforta and to a fantastic house in the upper part of the town.
22:09The location gives properties here stunning views, which I know is high on Jasmine and David's wish list.
22:15And it's still only a five-minute walk from the main square, so I'm hoping this one will fit the bill.
22:21So, obviously, you know, quite a few steep steps to come up to the property from the square and also from the school.
22:30We're looking at this place with the blue door.
22:32It's got the right colour door, hasn't it?
22:34It's got such a nice feel about it.
22:36It's got three bedrooms. So, the way it's set out at the moment, one of the bedrooms is being used as a sitting room and another one is being used as a dressing room.
22:46So, you'll have to use your imagination a little bit as we go around, but it's over two floors and you can see you've got that terrace there and you've got the one up top as well.
22:57This one's on the market for just under £130,500.
23:04So, pretty much on the money. Yeah. Brilliant. Brilliant.

23:11The townhouse has a lovely balcony with views down over Comforta and a staircase from here leads up to another roof terrace.
23:19Inside is oozing with character. There's a large entrance hall and two double bedrooms on this floor too.
23:25Upstairs is the main living area with a compact kitchen and there's a huge modern shower room.
23:32Up another flight is the third bedroom, currently set up as an extra lounge.
23:36Plus, there's also a handy storage area.

23:43So, coming in to this, like, entrance hall, you can see you've got two bedrooms on this level.
23:49And I think this has potential to make a bit more of it down here. What do you two think of it?
23:54Yes, it's lovely. First impression is great. Got lots of charm, you can tell already. Good start, I think, for me.
24:01I've noticed it's got air-con. It's got a nice view out the window. Nice tiles.
24:05So, coming up to this level, you've got this cute little area here, little sitting area.
24:14It's really gorgeous. As soon as we were, like, coming upstairs and obviously it's a really, like, it's a silly little room, really.
24:22It's got, it's very quirky, isn't it, but really cute and to be honest, exactly how I would probably do it up as well.
24:29I like the tiles on the little windowsill there. I like the tiles in the kitchen.
24:33The shutters on the windows. Yeah, it's really nice.
24:38Have a look at this. Not a bad view, is it? Not at all.
24:43Really nice. Wow. And you've got another terrace up top, but if you felt that you needed more space subject to planning permission,
24:52you could potentially extend out to here and create a really nice room with lovely views.
24:58So, this could become the sitting room, which would then potentially solve some of the space issues inside.

26:32With one very firmly in the bag, I'm going to try something a bit different.
26:36As Jasmine and David haven't been to this area at all before, I've taken them 45 minutes' drive away to Benamokara, which I think is a hidden gem.
26:44So, this is a bit of a new location, a bit of a departure from Competa. It's called Benamokara. It's also got everything that Competa has got in terms of amenities.

27:24Yeah, I think it's a great location. You've said about the schools and a secondary school. That would be good for our children.
27:29The property that we're going to have a look at is really close to this. It's about two minutes' walk in this direction.

27:38I really think Benamokara would be a great alternative location for Jasmine and David to move to.
27:43And further from Competa, I can get them a lot more house for their budget too.
27:47So, I've managed to line up a house with almost everything on their wish list.

31:25Today, I'm house hunting around the whitewashed Andalusian village of Compita with Jasmine and David, who are looking for the perfect home where they can build their happy ever after with their children.
31:37But with only one of my properties in the running, I'm going to have to pull out all the stops.
31:41They have a budget of just over £130,000 and are looking for a house with charm and views right in the centre of things.
31:50Despite showing them what other villages have to offer, it's clear to me their hearts lie in Compita and they've fallen for this character townhouse.
31:57But I think my final property with a bit more space inside could be exactly what they've been dreaming of.
32:05Before that though, I'm heading off to visit a beautiful property hidden away with complete privacy up in the mountains around Compita.
32:14On the market for just under £1.2 million, this four bedroom, five bathroom home has been designed to make the most of the panoramic views at every turn.

33:55Before I take them to the final property, though, there's somewhere else I want to show them that I think art enthusiast Jasmine will particularly love.
34:02I feel like we're kind of getting to know Compita really well. Do you two?
34:07Yeah, definitely.
34:08It's only quite a small place and we've quickly got a feel for it.
34:11One thing we haven't tapped into yet is the art scene here. And I know you said you quite like painting.
34:16Yes, I do. I do watercolour weekly.
34:19Where we are now is actually in the garden of a lovely little local arts gallery run by an artist called Luca Lott.
34:28And all these lovely laser cut sculptures. This mermaid are pieces of her work.
34:34And one of the things that they do is a monthly art walk. And there are seven different venues. So you can go around, look at the art, talk to the artists, as well as creative workshops.
34:47Is that something that you and maybe the kids might do?
34:50Absolutely. It's exactly up my street. And really, it gives me a lot of reassurance as well that moving somewhere that, you know, there's going to be things that I've got that I'm interested in and that I'd like to kind of explore a bit further.
35:01The property that we're going to look at is about a 10 minute walk from the gallery. Oh, wow. OK, brilliant.

35:30In the right location. I think it looks great. What struck me as soon as you walk up here, it's got the feel that we wanted to pedestrianise street and feels very peaceful.
35:40It's listed as a three bedroom, two bathroom. And to top it all off, right up stairs, you've got a little sort of self contained one bedroom apartment.
35:52Wow. Oh my word. I know. You've done it. I hope so, but that is obviously one of the bedrooms. Yes, yeah.
35:59I like the balcony. If you can come out on there, that would be nice. And obviously the views, looking at La Crosse, I think that would be really good.
36:06It's on the market for just over £152,000. Wow, okay. So I know that's massively over your budget.
36:14The agent thinks that there is some negotiation and that the owners who are Danish would be willing to come down to somewhere around £131,000, £132,000. Wow.
