00:00real suspects real danger i'm tom morris jr and this is fugitives caught on tape
00:25this guy has no regard for anybody else
00:39first up we're in jefferson county ohio where multiple law enforcement agencies
00:59are in pursuit of an amber alert suspect who's allegedly abducted his young daughter
01:05earlier the seven-year-old girl's maternal grandmother told police that 43-year-old
01:14charles alexander took his daughter who he does not have custody of from her house without consent
01:20and fled in a pickup truck an amber alert was issued the girl's mother who divorced alexander
01:27two years prior took to social media and the jefferson county sheriff's department began
01:33pinging the suspect's cell phone police then got a call out of medina county about 80 miles away
01:40reporting that the father and daughter were spotted in a moving truck now brunswick police
01:46officer robert dugan has tracked them down and along with fellow officers and ohio state troopers
01:52begins pursue officers attempt to pull the truck over but alexander doesn't comply
02:12officer kyle flag sets up stop sticks near a highway entrance
02:16i got sticks on you're coming up to him
02:25good stick here good stick here good stick here watch your stuff watch your stuff despite hitting the
02:29stop sticks the truck continues onto the highway but before long the effects of the sticks seem to be
02:36kicking in all right he's on a rim left rear tires on the rim we got sparks we're 26 miles an hour
02:43eventually the suspect exits the highway
02:50and makes a call to 9-1-1
02:53this is charles alexander i'm with i'm gonna stop this car i need the police to not come up do you
03:02know who i am yes sir where are you at right now i'm getting off the exit 18 i need them to not
03:08approach this car and she's still there you're keeping her safe right well stay on the line we
03:14don't need to do anything yet we don't need to make any decisions yet but let's not do anything that
03:18we can't undo okay it's too late eventually the fugitive comes to a stop stopping stopping
03:28and pursuing officers take up positions
03:37heads up heads up back back back back
03:41coming to you i got a rifle move move as the tension rises a police drone camera captures these
03:48images of the suspect as he makes another call to 9-1-1
03:539-1-1 was the address the emergency this is charles alexander i have my daughter you
04:00tell them do not approach this vehicle listen i'm not messing around do you have any weapons
04:05on you charles yes i do is it a gun charles stop tell him to back off but do you have a gun on you
04:11charles i need to know that for the officers yes i do okay with the suspect and his young daughter
04:18still in the truck officers are facing a very difficult situation everybody make sure we're
04:25disciplined on where each other's at and then shots fired shots fired 922 shots fired you got shots fired
04:38from inside the truck one shot was fired from inside the truck he's moving around he's moving
04:42around i still see movement shot fired again shot fired again 922 cleveland second shot fired we can
04:49still see them move inside the vehicle the officers attempt to find a better vantage point get to that
04:54other side see if you can get a shot you somebody's got to flank around we're going to try to move up
04:59to the garbage containers see if we can get to it from there hey go go go with him go with him go around
05:05the corner 705 can you guys see anything from your corner no really we just saw a little bit a little
05:10bit okay the chopper's about four minutes out soon an ohio highway patrol helicopter arrives on scene
05:19okay chopper can see through the windshield right now looks like the subject's more in the center
05:24of the truck uh and on the passenger side than the driver's side chopper can you see the child
05:30is the child still moving okay it looks like the child's still on the left it's on the right knee
05:35of the suspect they're right in the middle of the truck she's wearing a gray hoodie and he's kind
05:39of comforting her squeezing her she is sitting to his right he's kind of pulling her toward him okay
05:46the gun is in his left hand the gun is in his left hand and that's the hand that he's using to scroll
05:52on his phone officers try to get the fugitive to come out of the truck and end the standoff
05:58just give us an opportunity to help charles just give us a sign here throw the gun out the window
06:15we just want to talk to you let your daughter go and let us talk to you we can help you
06:20and the suspect still doesn't comply a sharpshooter from the highway patrol's special response team
06:28fires one shot
06:32and hits him officers quickly move in to extract the young girl
06:37action two move move move get her out get her out move move we're good move move back back watch
06:50the crossfire get her out get her out everybody back
06:57child's back back back but soon realized the driver is unresponsive alexander was later pronounced dead
07:24at the scene his daughter appeared unharmed but was taken for medical evaluation and eventually
07:30returned to her mother no officers were injured during the incident which ended over 100 miles from
07:38where it began next we're in bloomington minnesota where police are in pursuit of a suspect they say
07:49altered her license plate and then engaged in a gas off earlier bloomington pd dispatch received a call
07:58about a woman using black tape to change the plate on her car and then not pay for gas officer dennis
08:06kuzman was the first to arrive on the scene and spotted the vehicle leaving the gas station the officer
08:14followed the vehicle into a nearby parking lot and then pulled up to get a closer look at the plate
08:20please obstruct it's uh crazy 300 and as the suspect pulled out onto the road
08:28the officer activated his lights and siren now after the driver refuses to comply officer kuzman doesn't
08:36waste any time the officer executes a pit maneuver but it's unsuccessful and he almost crashes head-on
08:47into this railroad crossing pole while the back bumper of the suspect's vehicle is torn clean off
08:53so then as the chase continues
09:05the fugitive makes this wide turn and hits a curb damaging her vehicle off the road you see some
09:11more it's got a flat tire the chase continues down local roads until the effects of the car's damaged tire
09:21begin to slow it down and the officer moves in the pit's unsuccessful but the driver loses control
09:35and runs right into this tree kuzman and several additional officers take quick action
09:41with guns drawn show me your hands out the window with your hands if you run you will get hurt
09:49the suspect exits her vehicle get on the ground get on the ground down to the ground
09:56and officers notice that she's holding on to something and won't let it go
10:00eventually the suspect drops her phone and complies with the officers orders face away from me back up
10:26back up back up face away back up get on your knees port two she's out of the car compliance
10:34forgiving her commands put your hands on your back do not move an officer moves in and cuffs the suspect
10:41while the others clear the vehicle the vehicle is cleared and the suspect is id'd as 19 year old
10:54nadira abdillahi when she's placed in the back of a cruiser the reality of her situation seems to sink in
11:02this is bad oh my god am i going to jail oh yeah why why because you fled from offices and we try to
11:14initiate this traffic stop oh my god so is that jail time like how long are you talking because i don't
11:24know i'm not i'm not a judge okay and then can i get picked up uh nope you're being held in custody
11:32for how long i have no idea um i have work okay i don't think you're making work today i'm gonna be
11:37honest yeah um do you know where my phone is yeah i have your phone okay okay okay let's have it on me
11:45no absolutely not
11:50abdillahi was charged with felony fleeing police in a motor vehicle she later pled guilty to the reduced
11:56misdemeanor charge of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and was sentenced to 364 days
12:03at a correctional facility but the sentence was stayed for two years supervised probation
12:09meaning if abdillahi completes the probation without incident the charge will be dismissed
12:15per court records she was released from probation after 14 months and the case is now closed
12:22abdillahi was not charged with a gas off or altering her license plate
12:27next we're in idaho falls idaho where police officer joshua giddings is in pursuit of a suspect
12:37for fleeing and eluding just after 11 pm officer giddings was on patrol when he spotted the vehicle
12:45driving without its lights on when he attempted a traffic stop the suspect slowed down and seemed to be
12:53pulling over but he never came to a complete stop and then he took off 48 vehicles non-stop and they're
13:03continuing on east lincoln road into county they're speeding up i'll be following for now
13:11now as officer giddings pursues the suspect speeds through a 35 mile an hour zone but as the fugitive
13:17pulls out of the officer's sight he crashes on a concrete median 48 they just wrecked at the roundabout
13:26on north amon and east lincoln lincoln can i get county units out here expedite after giddings calls
13:32in for backup he pulls up the road and sees the suspect fleeing the crash scene he's running on foot
13:38right now on north amon road headed south but the suspect sees the officer and reverses course so
13:45giddings flips a u-turn and follows him into a gas station parking lot i'll be in the parking lot of
13:51maverick following the mail right now but giddings is too late as the suspect runs through this opening in
13:59the fence stop stop around the same time bonneville county sergeant randy flagel is pulling up in the
14:08distance just beyond the fence he's around this residence there he is stop stop
14:22giddings and flagel chase the fugitive to the front steps of a resident
14:29and when he fails to comply with their orders
14:31a taser is deployed the sergeant then rolls the suspect over and gets him in cuffs put your hands
14:48behind your back as backup arrives on the scene
14:51right we have one male detained the suspect 28 year old austin robert kelly was already wanted for
15:03probation violation and has prior convictions for theft resisting obstructing and fleeing eluding
15:09well you fled from a traffic stop and then you fled after you crashed your vehicle i turned my lights
15:20i turned my lights on you pulled off to the side of the road and then you just took off
15:27well you got to go to jail man you got an eye doc warrant for one
15:31officers walked kelly to an ambulance that's just arrived on scene he was taken to the hospital and
15:37treated for minor injuries before being booked into the county jail kelly was charged with dui
15:44resisting obstructing and fleeing or attempting to elude but he took a deal pleading guilty to
15:51resisting obstructing and fleeing eluding the dui charge was dismissed kelly was sentenced to 150 days in
15:59jail with credit for 87 days served and 18 months of unsupervised probation he was also
16:07ordered to pay fines and court costs next we're in columbus ohio where officers are in pursuit of two
16:18alleged car thieves who fled from police and are now driving dangerously earlier columbus pd received
16:26a hit from a flop camera about a stolen car and before long two units spotted the vehicle and attempted to
16:33stop it he could slow it up but after getting past one cruiser the driver attempted to speed past a second one
16:46the impact of the crash caused significant damage including setting off the airbags on the suspect's
16:52passenger side but the fugitives managed to recover even avoiding contact with two additional officers who
17:02who arrived on scene as additional officers joined the pursuit the suspects continue speeding and
17:11driving recklessly on local roads
17:15after cutting through the parking lot this officer slams his cruiser into the rear of the fugitive's vehicle
17:39knocking the back bumper off but still failing to stop them moments later the same officer attempts a pit maneuver
17:49sending the suspects into this police car and knocking off their other bumper
18:01another officer then slams into the suspects
18:06but despite getting hit a fourth time they somehow managed to escape again
18:17after the suspects enter a construction zone conditions become even more difficult for pursuing officers
18:23eventually the officers safely clear the construction zone and are able to catch up to the suspects again
18:40and when the now badly damaged vehicle turns off the main road and onto this quiet street the officers
18:47make their move
19:05the second pit is a success
19:07as the suspects crash into a tree
19:17the suspects exit the vehicle
19:23and are immediately detained officers soon discover that the fugitives they've been chasing
19:29are both teenagers neither of them old enough to legally drive
19:35both were treated for minor injuries and then turned over to juvenile authorities
19:40they were both charged with two counts of receiving stolen property
19:44the driver was also charged with two counts of failure to comply
19:49a judge adjudicated them both guilty for their charges
19:53and the juvenile court placed the teens on probation
19:56they were also ordered to pay restitution
