00:00here's the story developing in detroit the tigers have now successfully brought back a second key

00:06player from their 2025 playoff team all within two weeks this new one-year contract is with

00:11second baseman glaber torres and his acceptance marks a franchise first no tiger had ever before

00:18accepted a qualifying offer now let's talk about the deal itself it's a one-year contract worth

00:2522 000 and 25 000 what's interesting here is that this is actually a raise from the one-year

00:3215 million dollar contract he signed with detroit just last december it's not the long-term security

00:38he was probably hoping for after having such a great rebound season but it does bring the soon

00:43to be 29 year old back to the team where he put together an all-star campaign you'll remember that

00:49campaign was slowed down the stretch by a mid-summer sports hernia injury he did have surgery last month

00:54but the good news is he's expected to be fully ready for spring training when he was healthy

00:59torres really became the spark plug at the top of the tigers batting order and a quiet leader in the

02:13offseason he could decline the offer if he was confident he could get a lucrative long-term contract on the

02:18open market or he could accept this nice salary bump if the multi-year offers from other teams

02:28once in their career so this means torres will have another chance to go back into free agency
