00:00I want to thank the FDNY EMS Bureau of Training, our community affairs team, and the dedicated EMTs and paramedics who are here today.
00:09I also want to recognize our partners in CAMBA, in Brownsville, in violence, out, DYCD, NYCHA, the FDNY Foundation, and of course the Department of Homeland Security for helping make this program possible.
00:26Brownsville is a community that has shown extraordinary resilience and strength.
00:32Today we stand together with violence interrupters, leaders who work every day to prevent harm and save lives.
00:41Control the Bleed is a training program that is meant to offer regular New Yorkers the skills to help them help their neighbors in an emergency.
00:52It is meant to educate and empower by giving people something to do in an emergency rather than just standing around when you see someone in need.
01:02By teaching life-saving skills, we're ensuring that everyday citizens can respond with confidence when faced with life-threatening bleeding.
01:12This is critical and it reflects our mission of protecting lives by equipping communities with tools to act before help arrives.
01:24We've been trying to get this program off the ground now for several years because we recognize how important it is to provide help as soon as possible in an emergency.
01:35With the support from the FDNY Foundation and DHS and through the expertise of our CPR unit, this program demonstrates what can be achieved when the government, community organizations, and citizens work together to create change.
01:54It's necessary.
01:55It's necessary.
01:56You can imagine how many lives could have been saved after their friend or somebody in the community knew how to stop the bleeding, how to match that wound up so they won't bleed out.
02:07So, yeah, this is very important for a life to be saved in our communities.
02:12And, of course, I'm so blessed that the FDNY CAMBA came together to bring this to our people and our first initiative is to bring it to our staff and the people in the Brownfield community.
