00:00In a stunning, near-unanimous vote, the House of Representatives has moved to release all federal investigative materials on convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
00:10427 lawmakers voted yes on the measure, with one single Republican dissenting.
00:15That lone no vote came from Representative Clay Higgins, the Louisiana Republican and former sheriff known for his tough-on-crime rhetoric and his viral Cajun John Wayne videos.
00:28Moments after the vote was made official, Higgins fired off a series of posts on X defending his stance.
00:34He posted that the release of the Epstein files, quote, reveals and injures thousands of innocent people, and warned that the move abandons 250 years of criminal justice procedure in America.
00:47Critics, however, blasted Higgins, arguing he was using technicalities to block transparency and delay accountability for Epstein's survivors.
00:55Some also mocked his performative law-and-order persona, noting his signature tough-guy rhetoric doesn't quite align with voting against exposing a convicted pedophile's network.
01:07Higgins' social media push made him a focal point in the debate, with thousands responding to his posts, some praising his caution, but many more accusing him of siding with secrecy over justice.
01:18The victims themselves have been pleading for the release of those files. Their voices should count the most. Of course, the files should be made public. Only then can justice come.
01:29Dumping raw files without indictments means we get trial by social media instead of trial by law, and predators slip through while the internet argues.
01:37Very disappointing. No one that voted to safeguard pedophiles should be re-elected under any circumstances, regardless of what party they pretend to represent.
01:47The legislation forces the Justice Department to release federal records, emails, and investigation documents, including classified information to the maximum extent possible, connected to Jeffrey Epstein and his pedophilic network.
02:00This comes after President Trump said Sunday that House Republicans should vote to release any and all files related to late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after previously trying to dissuade the GOP from backing a measure that would force just that outcome.
02:14As I said on Friday night aboard Air Force One to the fake news media, House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files because we have nothing to hide, and it's time to move on from this Democrat hoax perpetrated by radical left lunatics in order to deflect from the great success of the Republican Party, including our recent victory on the Democrat shutdown.
