One day after U-S President Donald Trump indicated his willingness to speak with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, Maduro has responded calling for a face-to-face conversation.
Speaking on his weekly Con Maduro programme on Monday, Maduro also took aim at Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, claiming that she has mortgaged out T&T's territory to threaten Venezuela.
00:00Despite the military build-up in the Southern Caribbean, U.S. President Donald Trump has thus far held back from ordering land strikes against Venezuela,
00:09and as of Monday has stated his willingness to engage in discussions with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
00:16Maduro has now responded in an apparent acceptance of the unofficial invitation, saying,
00:22Whoever wants to talk to Venezuela, we will talk face-to-face, cara a cara, we will talk.
00:37Yes. Peace. Yes. War. No. Never, never war.
00:52As such, whoever wants to dialogue will always find people of their word here,
01:02decent people with experience to lead Venezuela, because that's another debate.
01:08Maduro says, based on reports coming out of the U.S., it appears there are certain people who want Trump to attack Venezuela,
01:16as this will mean the end of his political career.
01:19Uno es el tema de este famoso de Einstein. Sobre ese tema, nosotros no nos hemos metido ni nunca vamos a opinar.
01:28Es un tema de los Estados Unidos. Y el segundo tema es Venezuela.
01:32And they've positioned two issues. The Epstein issue. We haven't gotten involved in that issue, and we never will.
01:39And the second is Venezuela. They want Trump to commit the biggest mistake of his life and attack Venezuela,
01:46which will be the end of his leadership and his name.
01:51But while the U.S. and Venezuela appear to be leaning towards a diplomatic resolution,
01:57relations between Venezuela and Trinidad appear to be strained.
02:01All the CARICOM Prime Ministers in Jamaica to help with their recovery.
02:22And on the other hand, TNT's Prime Minister is in a situation,
02:26because she mortgaged the seas and territory of Trinidad and Tobago to host a military force
02:3215 kilometers from Venezuela, at its closest point to threaten Venezuela.
02:37And the people of Trinidad and Tobago are completely against it.
02:41The Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force is currently engaged in military exercises with the United States,
02:48which will run until November 21st.
02:51I believe that the Prime Minister is going to fare very badly for the missteps she is making
02:59against peace of her country and the region.
03:02Prime Minister Kamla Poussard-Bissess has stated that TNT will not participate in any act
03:08that will bring harm to the Venezuelan people,
03:10and has dismissed any notion that this country can be used as a launchpad for war.
