Showtime has given a straight-to-series order for a drama called 'Rust,' with Jeff Daniels attached to star and executive produce.

00:00Jeff Daniels is set to star in and executive produce the new Showtime drama, Rust.
00:04The premium cable network has given a straight-to-series order to the show based on the novel
00:08American Rust. The series will center on Daniels' character Del Harris, the complicated and
00:13compromised police chief of a town in southwestern Pennsylvania. When the son of the woman he loves
00:18is accused of murder, Harris must decide what he's willing to do to protect the young man.
00:22Now, this is actually the second series order for a project based on the book by Philip Meyer.
00:26USA gave a straight-to-series pick-up to American Rust in 2017, but later scrapped the project
00:32after being unable to find a lead actor. As for Daniels, the star is a two-time Emmy winner.
00:37He took home the trophy for best lead actor in a drama series in 2013 for his work on HBO's
00:42The Newsroom, and he won best supporting actor in a limited series in 2018 for Netflix's
