00:00What was the row over the Prime Minister of Japan Takayashi's comments
00:04about a Chinese attack on Taiwan could trigger a Japanese response? How has China reacted?
00:09Well, Beijing took real exception to the Japanese Prime Minister's comments recently when she
00:18basically said that a Chinese move on Taiwan would be seen by Japan as a survival issue,
00:26right? And, you know, would prompt potentially a military response. So China did what they always
00:34do when they feel as if somebody's, in their words, meddling in their internal affairs,
00:39they have a show of force. And in this case, you know, they sailed part of their Coast Guard past
00:47what the Japanese call the Senkaku Islands, which are disputed islands that the Chinese also claim.
00:52The Chinese call them something different, the Diawe Islands. So basically, the Chinese are
01:01rattling their saber in response to those comments. They actually, you know, protested to the Japanese
01:06ambassador, they called the ambassador in. And, you know, it's not uncommon, this is kind of their
01:14pattern of behavior. But it's another indication of just how tense things are in that region.
01:20And in particular, between China and Japan.
