Taiwan President Lai Ching-te showed his support for Japan on Nov 20 with Japanese-sourced sushi lunch after China indicated it would ban all Japanese seafood imports in an escalating dispute over the Chinese-claimed island.
Tensions between China and Japan ignited after Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said that a Chinese attack on Taiwan threatening Japan's survival could trigger a military response.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry responded to Lai's antics by saying that the show that he put on does not change the fact that Taiwan is part of China.
