UN humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher visited displacement camps in Tawila, Korma, and Darfur on November 14–16, meeting survivors who fled al-Fashir after months of siege, shelling, and reported mass atrocities.

Women who escaped described drones overhead, blocked water and food routes, and widespread violence: “If you went to the market, your child would not come back.”

Fletcher called the conditions “desperate, desperate” and urged the international community to respond immediately. He also met RSF representatives and demanded full accountability for atrocities reported in al-Fashir.

According to the UN 82,000+ people have fled al-Fashir since October 26, up to 200,000 remain trapped, and Tawila alone hosts more than 600,000 displaced persons.

00:35so we are expecting it to be certified
00:42we don't have any food to walk or to get out
00:48we are looking for a very open cell
00:50we are also working on the world
00:52we are working on the flood
00:53we are working on the street
00:56We don't know how many people are aware of that.
01:03The authorities are aware of our own, and any of our own.
01:08We have to get out of here, and we are not allowed to get out of here.
01:26Here is fashion fashion, it's about 26, 37.
01:39Yeah.
01:40Yeah.
01:41Yeah.
01:42Yeah.
01:56So here in Korma, in Darfur, we're very close now to Al-Fasha, which has been the epicenter
02:06of inhumanity in this conflict.
02:09And we're meeting survivors of that conflict who have had to fight so hard just to get here,
02:16moving along that road where there's extortion, there's brutality, there are mass executions,
02:21there are mass rapes, and then they get here and they're in desperate need of help.
02:25And I do not want the teams responding to that to be responding empty handed.
02:30I'm hearing too often that people have nothing, that there is no food, there's no water, there's
02:35no medicine.
02:36This is a desperate, desperate situation and the world must respond.
02:40We live in fear.
02:41My eldest son was dead from 16 September.
02:55So she was, he was, say, 23 years.

02:58Absolutely.
02:59Your voice is powerful now.
03:00Yes.
03:01And we'll make your people hear the answer.
03:05We want to go to Tavira to see the doctor and get the operation.
03:19It's very brave of you to be willing to speak to us.
03:22Yeah.
03:23Yeah.
03:24We're fortunate to find someone who speaks such good English you can tell the world what
03:26the situation is here.
03:27Yeah.
03:28In Korma, I also met with RSF representatives to make clear that we demand full accountability
03:45for the atrocities that have taken place in Al-Fasha, that we insist on full civilian protection
03:52and that we will be vigilant in protecting civilians.
03:55And we demand that of all the parties on the ground.
