Sudan’s Prime Minister Kamil Idris said his country is seeking a “realistic exit from war” as he spoke to reporters at United Nations headquarters in New York ahead of a UN Security Council meeting on Sudan.

Idris thanked U.S. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for helping advance the peace process, saying Sudan faces a choice between continued conflict or a future built on hope, peace, and justice.

The Security Council meeting is expected to focus on the conflict’s trajectory, humanitarian needs, and regional implications. Sudan’s civil war, which began in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF, has displaced millions and killed tens of thousands.
