00:00Just a Lions portion of Sunday night football, only nine points,
00:05three of them really gifted by the Eagles' decision to go for it
00:10deep into that game that they did not pick up.
00:14Jared Goff, 14 for 37 in this game, completing under 40% of his passes,
00:20had a touchdown, had an interception, sacked a couple of times here.
00:25For as bad as some of the Eagles' offense looked,
00:28it looked twice as good, all in all, really, with what we saw from Detroit,
00:33a nightmarish result for the Lions,
00:36who are currently now settled in as third place in the NFC North.
00:41How concerning was that result?
00:43Oh, very.
00:44But again, I think the Lions are a good team.
00:47I don't think they're an elite team.
00:49And that game against Philadelphia was one in the trenches.
00:53And they do not have a superior offense and defense alliance
00:57to the Philadelphia Eagles.
00:59You're looking at a gauge of potentially the best team in the NFC,
01:03I keep saying it, and everybody else.
01:06They're going to exploit the Detroit Lions nine times out of every 10 games they play.
01:12And when you look at the loss on the road,
01:14it's exactly what it is to beat the Detroit Lions.
01:17You beat them physical in the trenches,
01:19and you get pressure on Jared Goff, which is exactly what they did.
01:23And at the end of the day, Quinion Mitchell, Cooper Dugin in that secondary,
01:28can play superior man-to-man coverage and contain, for the most part,
01:32St. Brown and Jamison Williams.
01:35Now, Williams got open for the big touchdown crossing pattern.
01:38They did play that game without Sam Laporta, but it doesn't matter, Kevin.
01:42The Eagles are a better team.
01:44And yes, do I think Detroit is maybe the second-best team in the NFC?
01:48Yes, but are they built potentially to win a Super Bowl?
01:52No, because if they have to go up against the Philadelphia Eagles, in my opinion,
01:57they're losing that game every time because they can't run on that front seven.
02:01And at the end of the day, their defense can't contain that offense of Jalen Hurts
02:05no matter how pedestrian they are at times.
02:09All in all for the Lions, they are struggling as they go up in competition this year.
02:17If you look at the losses, Kansas City, Philly, Green Bay, all on the road, to be fair,
02:23this is a Lions team, though, Lee, see that last year played a lot of bully ball.
02:28And that's not happening, and the offensive line is a question.
02:32And I think Detroit will be in the mix.
02:36They're not going to be my pick.
02:37I just wonder if this team is one and done.
02:40Does that lead to some drastic change?
02:43I am not saying firing Dan Campbell.
02:44He will certainly be keeping his job.
02:46I think something, though, will come if this group, if they miss the playoffs, it's on the board.
02:52Someone's going to miss.
02:54You know, if it's Chicago, then it's, you know, everybody else is going to feel okay.
02:58If the Bears make the playoffs, someone is going to be very, very disappointed in their season.
03:03And I think that becomes a really interesting thing to watch.
03:06Now, yesterday, sorry.
03:08Go ahead, Joe.
03:08I just want to say, you know, it's similar to Cincinnati and the success they had with Joe Burrow.
03:14There is a certain window that you have to capitalize on.
03:19And let's keep in mind, Kevin, Cincinnati, Detroit, they're typically losing organizations that have never won a Super Bowl,
03:27and all of a sudden now are trying to catch lightning in a bottle.
03:31And when you lose your offensive, defensive coordinators, such the way Detroit did last year, you're trying to find that mojo.
03:39And if you can't find it, you're going to lose to better competition.
03:44Jared Goff is a good quarterback.
03:45He's not elite.
03:46He's not Jalen Hurts, a potentially MVP candidate.
03:50Now, maybe Hurts doesn't have his type of numbers.
03:53But again, when the game is on the line, Jalen Hurts is going to win more games than Jared Goff, bottom line.
04:00And their defense is going to step up, and they're more consistent and have a better foundation defensively to carry them to a championship.
04:11Nobody is outside of Hutchinson.
04:13And nobody's raving about the front seven of Detroit.
04:16They're good, but they're not like Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Zach Bond, and all of the playmakers that Philly has in the front seven.
04:25That's what's going to carry them on top of the offensive talent.
04:28That is why Detroit needs to capitalize sooner rather than later.
