00:00:00Removed from the hubbub of the famous Las Vegas Strip, and who says it doesn't get cold in the desert?
00:00:05Temperature here at night dropping into the 30s.
00:00:09We'll see if things heat up some more in our main event.
00:00:12Coming up next from the Dallas Event Center,
00:00:15Joel Casamayor puts his title and unbeaten record on the line against former champion Roberto Garcia,
00:00:21the WBA Super Featherweight Championship.
00:00:24Well, the story of the Cuban-born Joel Casamayor is an extraordinary one.
00:00:31A 1992 Olympic gold medalist, he was a prohibitive favorite to repeat at the 96 Atlanta Games.
00:00:37But just a few weeks prior to the opening ceremonies, he defected to the United States.
00:00:41Now a world champion, his biggest victory may have had nothing to do with boxing.
00:00:54I love boxing so much because in Cuba, I was in a poor neighborhood.
00:01:02It was a very poor neighborhood, and I fought a lot in the streets with my friends.
00:01:08We fought a lot.
00:01:10I got my head split open, and my mother said,
00:01:12Ah, you like to fight?
00:01:15Let's go to the gym.
00:01:19That was at the age of six.
00:01:20When I won the Olympic gold medal in 1992,
00:01:27for me, it was a triumph,
00:01:30and very glorious to win the Olympics.
00:01:34After I won, they said they were going to give me money, but they didn't.
00:01:38They said they were going to give me a car, but they didn't.
00:01:41They gave me a bicycle.
00:01:44How was an Olympic gold medalist supposed to be riding around on a bike?
00:01:49I got angry.
00:01:50And I sold it.
00:01:53With the bike, I traded it for a pig to eat.
00:01:58I went to the corner and told people to join me to eat.
00:02:02When I left Cuba, I did not tell anyone in my family.
00:02:06Not my mother, father, nor brother.
00:02:08I felt horrible.
00:02:14I felt bad.
00:02:16But I knew once I did this, they were going to have a better life in Cuba.
00:02:20My fans follow my career.
00:02:26And every fight I went here, I dedicate to my mom, who is in Cuba.
00:02:32She can't see me, but she hears and knows I'm doing well.
00:02:37When I got here from Cuba, I wanted to fight the best.
00:02:41I'm the world champion, and I came here to fight the best so that they can see that I'm the best.
00:02:45Yeah, compelling story.
00:02:54And despite what had to be an agonizing decision for Joel Castamayor, he says the greatest feeling in his career is that he came to America.
00:03:04And to this point, he has made the most of his boxing career.
00:03:08Back here with Bobby Chez.
00:03:10And Bobby, as mentioned, Joel Castamayor, an 11-1 favorite.
00:03:16But despite that, could this be the toughest test against a guy like Roberto Garcia?
00:03:19I clearly think it is, and I think it's by no means an 11-1 landslide type of odds.
00:03:24I think those odds are really long.
00:03:25A lot of people may be just selling Garcia short.
00:03:27But I think what Garcia does do is he brings to the table a wealth of experience,
00:03:30a former undefeated world champion himself at one time,
00:03:33some pretty good power, nice boxing skills, and he's hungry, too.
00:03:36He wants to get the respect back that he had with the title.
00:03:38And I think tonight we find out just how good Castamayor is.
00:03:41And you recall just a few weeks ago right here on Showtime, Virgil Hill, a 15-1 underdog,
00:03:47despite those odds, knocked out Fabrice Tiozzo in the first round to win the Cruiserweight title.
00:03:52So it's unlikely that that's going to happen again, but we'll see if lightning strikes twice.
00:03:57Lightning can strike twice.
00:03:58It can, it can.
00:03:59All right, let's get your keys to victory for this fight.
00:04:01Steve, this should be a case of power and pressure.
00:04:03Versus speed, elusiveness, and overall boxing skills.
00:04:06The champion, Castamayor, oh, as always, needs to use his speed.
00:04:10Feet and hands very, very quick.
00:04:13Straight left hand.
00:04:14He's accurate with it from long range and inside.
00:04:17And also, lastly, smooth boxing skills all around.
00:04:19He's hard to hit offensively.
00:04:21Defensively, he has it all in the way of moves.
00:04:23Here he's in simple jab left hand against Bradford Beasley.
00:04:27Castamayor on the right.
00:04:28Watch what happens when he gets him in trouble.
00:04:29He chases him very quickly.
00:04:32Now, even in the middle of an offensive combination, what's going to happen, Beasley's going to go to punch.
00:04:37Straight right hand, which doesn't land.
00:04:40Castamayor gets his head out of the side, back to the other side, and fires another one-two.
00:04:44And he does this on a regular basis with eerie consistency.
00:04:48Eerie consistency.
00:04:53His opponent, Roberto Garcia, has to keep the pressure on.
00:04:57He can't let Castamayor sit back and get in the rhythm.
00:04:58Also, work the body.
00:04:59Maybe he can slow those legs down.
00:05:01And he, too, has a pretty good straight punch.
00:05:02His right hand being an orthodox fighter.
00:05:05Here on the left, we see Garcia throw a light jab against Ben Tacky.
00:05:08Go to the body.
00:05:09And then he does what he's supposed to.
00:05:10Follows up with the left hook, the uppercut, and the pressure, and the combinations.
00:05:14He keeps punches in Ben Tacky's face.
00:05:15Tacky can't move, can't react, can't box, because he's getting hit.
00:05:19And there is some pretty decent power on most of these punches.
00:05:22Garcia does have some power.
00:05:23If he puts this type of power and pressure together with these combinations,
00:05:27he has a chance to beat Castamayor.
00:05:32All right, Bobby, we'll soon see if the former champion Roberto Garcia is up to the task
00:05:36against the slick southpaw, Joel Castamayor,
00:05:39as we send it up to our ring announcer, Jimmy Lennon Jr.,
00:05:41to introduce the Challengers Ring Walk.
00:05:45Ladies and gentlemen, we are ready for the main event of the evening.
00:05:54Join me in welcoming the boxers as they make their way to the ring.
00:05:58First, ladies and gentlemen, introducing the challenger.
00:06:02Please welcome Roberto Garcia.
00:06:05The challenger, Roberto Garcia, familiar face landing support,
00:06:29his buddy Fernando Vargas, also from Oxnard, California, like Garcia.
00:06:34Of course, off the loss to Felix Trinidad for the title.
00:06:37Outstanding fight.
00:06:38But to Garcia's credit, he doesn't sidestep the tough opponents,
00:06:43the easygoing, unpretentious Roberto, after losing the IMB belt to Corrales.
00:06:48He could have posted instead.
00:06:49He took on rugged Ben Tacky of Ghana.
00:06:52Was ahead going into the last round when he had a little fatigue set in.
00:06:56Carelessly traded with Tacky.
00:06:57He got knocked out tonight.
00:06:58No picnic as well, facing Casamayor.
00:07:03Bobby Garcia, Casamayor's most experienced opponent today.
00:07:07Will it be a factor, or will it simply come down to speed?
00:07:10You know, you're not going to win a jab contest with Casamayor.
00:07:13So how do you neutralize that weapon?
00:07:14Well, Garcia needs to keep a tight defense and also keep the pressure on Casamayor.
00:07:18He'd have some punches in his face.
00:07:20He's going to neutralize that jab.
00:07:21He can't stay back.
00:07:22He can't let Casamayor get into his rhythm.
00:07:24He has to stay close, stay on him.
00:07:26Maybe he works the body and lands some of his power shot.
00:07:28He can slow him down enough, take advantage, and pull off the upset.
00:07:32Not only do we wonder how Garcia will handle Casamayor's speed,
00:07:36but how much have the wars with Corrales and Tacky taken out of him.
00:07:39Back to Jimmy Glennon Jr.
00:07:43And now, ladies and gentlemen, making his way to the ring,
00:07:46please welcome the defending world champion.
00:07:49Introducing Joel Casamayor.
00:08:12He lost a warm-up to the barrage game.
00:08:15The champion, Joel Casamayor.
00:08:17Prolific amateur career, 380 wins, gold medal at the Barcelona Olympics.
00:08:24In 92 as a bantamweight, won the title in a thorough domination of Korean Jean-Kwon Beck.
00:08:30Comes off his first defense, a fifth round TKO,
00:08:33Radford Feasley will be surgically dissected.
00:08:37As he comes in to the beat of his music.
00:08:42Bobby, we know Casamayor's lightning hand and foot speed.
00:08:45His power is on the rise.
00:08:48Do you see any weaknesses in this guy?
00:08:50Well, you know, right now, Steve, it's really hard to say because I don't think he's ever been tested the way I believe.
00:08:55Garcia's going to test him here tonight.
00:08:56He hasn't faced real tough, durable, hard-punching men in the upper echelon of his division as of yet.
00:09:02Tonight, we're going to find out.
00:09:03This is going to be a proving ground for both fighters.
00:09:05Casamayor put on a showcase that lets us know just how really good he is or maybe he's not.
00:09:10And it's hard to believe that this man actually represented Cuba at the Olympics as a replacement for an injured fighter.
00:09:17The rest, as they say, is history.
00:09:21I would love to see the guy that beat him.
00:09:25All right, let's size him up as we check out the tale of the tape.
00:09:28Casamayor checks in at four years older.
00:09:32The height is all even.
00:09:33Slight one-inch reach advantage for Casamayor.
00:09:36And yesterday's way in, you see Casamayor right at the limit.
00:09:39Garcia just under.
00:09:40Fight time waits.
00:09:41Casamayor 141.
00:09:43Garcia 138.
00:09:44And the key roles for this title fight.
00:09:46No standing eight count.
00:09:48No three knockdowns.
00:09:49A fighter cannot be saved by the bell in any round.
00:09:51If an accidental headbutt comes before the end of the fourth, it's a no contest.
00:09:56If it happens after the end of round four, they go to the scorecards.
00:09:59So here at Texas Station in Las Vegas getting ready for our main event,
00:10:03Joel Casamayor versus Roberto Garcia.

00:12:37the red corner, entering the ring, wearing silver trunks with blue and red trim, fighting
00:12:42out of Miami, Florida, by way of Guantanamo, Cuba.
00:12:46He weighed in at the limit of 130 pounds, even.
00:12:50He's a gold medalist in the 1992 Olympic Games.
00:12:54As a professional, his record is unblemished at 23 wins, no losses, 14 of his wins coming
00:13:00by way of knockout.
00:13:01Tonight, he is making the second defense of his title.
00:13:04Here is the undefeated WBA Super Featherweight Champion of the World,
00:13:10Joel El Cepillo Casamayor.
00:13:21Once again, a referee in charge, Kenny Bayless, now to give instructions, 12 rounds of championship
00:13:27boxing scheduled.
00:13:28Okay, listen up, fellas.
00:13:37I went to both of those rooms and we went over the rooms.
00:13:40I want you to obey my commands at all times and keep the fight clean at all times.
00:13:44Any area in this area is a good punch.
00:13:48Any area here is a clean punch.
00:13:49Anything below that area is low.
00:13:52Any questions from the red corner?
00:13:54Any questions from the blue corner?
00:13:56Good luck, fellas.
00:13:56Touch the line.
00:13:57A few Casamayor fans here with the crowd favoring Garcia.
00:14:03Casamayor, tricky, fast southpaw in superb condition.
00:14:07Moving and punching are his game.
00:14:09Classic stick and move, in and out, excellent boxing skills.
00:14:12The respectful Roberto Garcia who says Casamayor deserves everything in the world for his sacrifice.
00:14:18Ring-wise, not a particularly fast starter.
00:14:20Told us he hurt Casamayor, would try to take him out inside three.
00:14:24If so, he better be able to solve the champion real soon.
00:14:29Casamayor.
00:14:29I think the first two rounds are going to be very, very key for both fighters to establish themselves.
00:14:35Who's going to take the lead?
00:14:36Who's going to do exactly what?
00:14:38And any adjustments need to be made.
00:14:39Casamayor not known as a big one punch KO artist, but working on his power.
00:14:44Very accurate, crisp.
00:14:45He's a sharpshooter.
00:14:46He feels his biggest weapons are the straight left and the right jab.
00:14:50Very busy, though.
00:14:51He throws a lot of punches.
00:14:54Garcia can fight and has good skills, but it's hard to be afraid of the guy whose nickname is Grandpa.
00:14:58Yeah.
00:14:59He got that nickname when he was very young.
00:15:03Fighting since he was five.
00:15:04He said someone just started calling, calling Grandpa, and it just stuck.
00:15:08And he'll have to keep the pressure on Casamayor, who's actually four years older than him.
00:15:17He'll have to keep that pressure on, land heavy punches, slow Casamayor down.
00:15:21As Bobby said, force a brawl or he'll be eating a host of Jets.
00:15:25Garcia's been out eight times, three times against Diego Perales.
00:15:29But this kid, Casamayor, Bobby, he's not even been remotely threatened at this point.
00:15:33He's lost only a handful of rounds.
00:15:37Well, I'll tell you what, though.
00:15:37There was a combination of these chains while you were talking where Garcia did just that.
00:15:41Landed a good right hand.
00:15:42And to his credit, Casamayor came back with a sharp right hook counter in Southall.
00:15:47The speed is going to be a big factor for Garcia.
00:15:50Garcia looks to be a little heavier handed.
00:15:52So this will be interesting.
00:15:55Casamayor's sharp slashing punches, falls all kinds of problems, cut problems for his last opponent.
00:16:00The guy that you diagrammed earlier, Radford Beasley, whose face was rendered bloody and battered.
00:16:06He can surgically pick you apart.
00:16:12He told us he trained for this fight, Casamayor, as if his opponent was Felix Pineda.
00:16:17That's how hard he worked.
00:16:19He wants to set a fast pace, make Garcia work.
00:16:24Garcia known for his toughness early on.
00:16:27That's when his firepower is best, very strong the first four rounds.
00:16:31Then he kind of fizzles.
00:16:33He's not working in behind the jab.
00:16:35There's a good overhand right.
00:16:36Didn't land real clean.
00:16:37What Garcia needs to do, though, is step with the jab.
00:16:39Push Casamayor back to a corner, to the ropes.
00:16:42Keep them all bouncing.
00:16:43When he's going backwards, he can never hurt you.
00:16:45He can score, but he can't hurt you.
00:16:49Garcia still very dry.
00:16:53It looks like he hasn't even broken much of a sweat.
00:17:04Garcia out of Oxnard, California.
00:17:06Casamayor out of Cuba, originally.
00:17:10Moving to Miami.
00:17:11And now training out of Van Nuys, California.
00:17:14Well, the chess match has started, ladies and gentlemen.
00:17:17And it could be boring for a couple of rounds.
00:17:19This is Boris Spassky and Bobby Fischer here in the opening round.
00:17:24Not Casamayor versus Garcia.
00:17:35That's all right.
00:17:37What I want you to do now, more jab.
00:17:39More jab.
00:17:41All right?
00:17:41All right?
00:17:41All right?
00:17:41All right?
00:17:41All right?
00:17:41All right?
00:17:41All right?
00:17:41All right?
00:17:42All right?
00:17:42All right?
00:17:42All right?
00:17:43All right?
00:17:43All right?
00:17:44All right?
00:17:45All right?
00:17:45All right?
00:17:46All right?
00:17:46Yeah.
00:17:47It looks straight ahead.
00:17:51You got to work the jab a little more.
00:17:55Jab.
00:17:56Jab hit the body.
00:17:57Go for the body.
00:18:01And do that for the next round.
00:18:13You really got to hit him hard.
00:18:15Don't be afraid.
00:18:16Don't be afraid.
00:18:17Go for the body all the time.
00:18:20Don't be afraid.
00:18:20Come on, baby.
00:18:21Come on, baby.
00:18:22Let's go.
00:18:22John Gonzalez, our translator.
00:18:24Eduardo Garcia.
00:18:25In the corner of Roberto Garcia, that's Roberto's father.
00:18:29It's a family affair there with brother Danny as well.
00:18:33Roberto very close to his dad, Eduardo.
00:18:35And Joe Goosen, the always direct to the point,
00:18:39ebullient trainer of Joel Casemayor.
00:18:43You may recall he trained Ben Tacky in his dramatic compromise
00:18:46and win over Roberto Garcia right here on Showtime.
00:18:50You know, it's hard to give that first round to anybody,
00:18:52so I called it even.
00:18:53Very little punching was done.
00:18:54Very little scoring was done.
00:18:56And the heavier shots by Garcia, maybe a couple more jabs and counters
00:19:00by Casemayor, so nothing serious.
00:19:03Oh, look out.
00:19:06WWF tactics employed by Casemayor, who hears it from the crowd.
00:19:10You know, it's funny, Steve.
00:19:11I saw in his eyes as he did that, he swung and missed,
00:19:15and Garcia was coming.
00:19:15I saw a little bit of panic in Casemayor's eyes,
00:19:18and there he caught a tail end of a good left hook.
00:19:23He's showing a great deal of respect to Garcia's power,
00:19:26so I guess he felt something early.
00:19:27Look back clean.
00:19:28There we go.
00:19:29Watch your hands.
00:19:29Look back.
00:19:30Watch your hands.
00:19:30Grandpa's doing all right here at the outset.
00:19:36Following the standard feeling out process in round one.
00:19:44Now just a lot of posing.
00:19:52Casemayor missing with the left.
00:19:54Now he's starting to go to the body of the way
00:19:57Loosen told him to his trainer.
00:19:59Trying to back Garcia up, and now a backhand move there illegally
00:20:03by Casemayor.
00:20:04Got away with it.
00:20:06Casemayor may be a bit frustrated.
00:20:07Garcia perhaps posing a bit of an awkward problem at least up to this point.
00:20:23We'll see if Casemayor can solve it.
00:20:26I think what Garcia needs to do, too, is he's throwing one, one, two.
00:20:29I think he needs to put three, four, and five behind that,
00:20:31or he's not going to catch up with Casemayor because he's very quick,
00:20:33and that initial reaction off the first two punches, he's out of home's way.
00:20:40Casemayor 23-0 with 14 knockouts, 2-0 in world title belts.
00:20:46Left hand that was blocked by the right glove of Garcia.
00:20:50Garcia showing some good reflections and sharp defense of his own.
00:20:53Former IBF junior lightweight champion, Garcia.
00:21:00And he beat Harold Warren, two successful defenses.
00:21:06And then he lost the title to Diego Corrales.
00:21:13I'm the south of the border here, Steve.
00:21:17And Kenny Bayless has a word with Casemayor.
00:21:19Best punch to Casemayor have landed in the south of the border.
00:21:29And once again, the close foul of Roberto Garcia, Fernando Vargas,
00:21:34looking on, looking very serious and concerned.
00:21:37Comes off that great fight, what many thought was the fight of the year,
00:21:41and the loss to Felix Trinidad.
00:21:42But now he's in the cheering section for Garcia.
00:21:45The wild swing and a miss here.
00:22:04You see, Casemayor just ducks under the jab
00:22:07and picks, just picks Garcia up like it's pro wrestling.
00:22:15Maybe the best bunch has landed all night.
00:22:17He slips underneath south of the border,
00:22:19but that is way south of the border.
00:22:20It was very clean and very low.
00:22:22Well, after a little action in round one,
00:22:29Garcia started connecting,
00:22:31particularly with his right hand in round two.
00:22:33Frustrating Casemayor,
00:22:35who exhibited good speed in that round.
00:22:38That's his thing.
00:22:43She got some more punches,
00:22:45and they're a little quicker,
00:22:46and they're getting home.
00:22:47And Casemayor starting to land
00:22:50with more frequency here now.
00:22:53And Garcia getting a little wild.
00:22:56You better be careful,
00:22:57because Casemayor is a good counter puncher.
00:23:09Again, a wild swing and a miss by Garcia.
00:23:12Garcia cannot load up with Casemayor.
00:23:14He's too quick.
00:23:14His reflexes are just too good for them.
00:23:16Casemayor looking more confident here in round three.
00:23:26You can tell by the fact that he lowers his hands.
00:23:31He realizes his quickness and speed
00:23:33would be too much for Garcia.
00:23:36He feels probably, in his mind,
00:23:38that Garcia just can't catch him.
00:23:40Well, let's see if Garcia shows some more offense,
00:23:50or rather, Casemayor shows some offense here.
00:23:54Right now, Garcia's trying to corner him,
00:23:56and he's just not being able to find the rhythm.
00:23:59He's tried to walk into a left hook,
00:24:01tried to walk Casemayor into a left hook,
00:24:02but again, he's missing the rhythm,
00:24:04and now he's eating left hands.
00:24:05Quick little right-left combination to the head
00:24:07by a Casemayor.
00:24:08They weren't heavy punches,
00:24:09but they'll get your attention.
00:24:19That was a slip.
00:24:20That was a half a slip, half a hook.
00:24:23He pulled him with one left hook,
00:24:24and then hit him with the hook.
00:24:25Casemayor's was off-balance.
00:24:27Clean, no, it's a clean no-core.
00:24:29Garcia, jumping on Casemayor.
00:24:34Casemayor's never been down.
00:24:35He landed two good shots.
00:24:36Casemayor's holding on a lot now.
00:24:41Casemayor just seems to be waiting for something.
00:24:45There's that elucidness again of Casemayor,
00:24:47evading that wild left hook by Garcia.
00:24:51But Casemayor is missing.
00:24:53But can Garcia make him pay?
00:24:55Well, as we talked about in the open,
00:24:56we thought this would be his best test so far,
00:24:59and so far it has not been anything but a test.
00:25:02Yeah, the experience factor of Garcia
00:25:03seems to be paying off,
00:25:05but it is really.
00:25:09Casemayor averages about five rounds.
00:25:13This should be a long fight.
00:25:15Steve, I have a feeling if there's no cuts
00:25:17that this is a distance-type fight,
00:25:18especially the way the chess match has started
00:25:20and the way that the action has not started so much.
00:25:23Casemayor has been stunned only once in his career.
00:25:28That was against the Korean back.
00:25:29You've got lots of time.
00:25:40I'm going to go to the better side of the jab.
00:25:42Take your time. Use that jab.
00:25:44Don't wait on that.
00:25:45Keep your punches straight.
00:25:49Keep your punches straight.
00:25:50Start using a double jab,
00:25:51recto-scarado, okay?
00:25:53Uses a double-dose counter punch.
00:25:55You've got to find the balance and keep the pressure up.
00:26:02There's a nice left hook
00:26:03that that's sort of a pull,
00:26:05and then he just pulls him behind the ear again,
00:26:07and more of a pull than an actual knockdown.
00:26:09Just kind of pulled him,
00:26:11but then he tests to see if he's hurt.
00:26:13Lands a nice right hand on top of the head,
00:26:15and believe me, getting hit on top of the head hurts.
00:26:16That right hand went right through the gloves,
00:26:17and a nice double left hook behind it.
00:26:20Those punches were his best scores in that round.
00:26:26Garcia very aggressive there towards the end of round three.
00:26:29He said he'd considered quitting after the Ben Tacky fight,
00:26:32but then along came this bout.
00:26:34There's too much prestige and money to pass up.
00:26:36A shot at the title.
00:26:37He wants to prove those wrong.
00:26:39He feels he's an 11-1 underdog.
00:26:40He had Casamayor,
00:26:42and he's fighting like he's doing that.
00:26:47He knows this is a tough task.
00:26:54On top of that,
00:26:55Casamayor's a lefty,
00:26:56but so far he's been doing a pretty good job
00:26:59at neutralizing Casamayor's potent jack.
00:27:03Oh, big left hook off the head
00:27:04by Casamayor.
00:27:06Garcia shakes his head no,
00:27:08as if to say it didn't hurt him.
00:27:09Garcia looked at him,
00:27:11didn't even flinch,
00:27:13didn't bat an eye.
00:27:13Very rugged young man,
00:27:18Roberto Garcia.
00:27:20It was interesting at our meeting yesterday,
00:27:34Casamayor told us that
00:27:35he feels that Garcia is strong
00:27:38over the first four rounds,
00:27:39so according to the champion,
00:27:41Casamayor,
00:27:42this should be
00:27:44Garcia's last good round.
00:27:47We'll see.
00:27:48Well, I think part of that's a little deceiving, too.
00:27:50He said he only has four good rounds,
00:27:52and then he faints.
00:27:52Then he has nothing, as you put it,
00:27:54technically translated,
00:27:55but he hasn't made him work
00:27:57for this first three or four.
00:27:58He hasn't tired him out.
00:27:59He hasn't pressed him.
00:28:00He hasn't punished him,
00:28:00so he should have a lot more
00:28:02than even Casamayor would think.
00:28:05Yeah, it doesn't seem like
00:28:06Casamayor is making Garcia
00:28:07work as much as he should.
00:28:09That may have been a headbutt there.
00:28:12That was a bit of a butt,
00:28:15as you see Garcia wiping off the forehead.
00:28:18They bumped into each other,
00:28:19and then Casamayor just pushed him,
00:28:20shoved him.
00:28:23The heads came together,
00:28:24and that often does happen
00:28:27with southpaws against a conventional fighter.
00:28:30The feet get tangled,
00:28:30and the heads collide.
00:28:31the tackle is at the square of Doctor
00:28:44the headbutt of Thiago.
00:28:45Yes, I can do it.
00:28:45Yes, here we go.
00:28:46Yes, then, do it.
00:28:46No, I'm no pit but I am.
00:28:47Yes, I'm no pit but I am not
00:28:48Good job by Kenny Bayless.
00:28:50And then they clash heads at the 140 mark here of round four.
00:28:5630 seconds left in the round.
00:29:10Casemar started this round off, Steve.
00:29:12Started this round off pretty effective.
00:29:14And he's faded a little bit since.
00:29:15I see it landing in the right hand now.
00:29:17A little more regularity.
00:29:18A little more regularity.
00:29:28Well, the little men of boxing bringing out the celebrities in the crowd here tonight.
00:29:36Packed house here at Texas Station in Las Vegas.
00:29:39Little Nicky, Adam Sandler on the right.
00:29:42And former Saturday Night Live star along with Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider on the left of
00:29:47the street.
00:29:47Two funny men on hand here.
00:29:53And one of the all-time greats, five-time world champion Sugar Ray Leonard in the crowd as well.
00:29:58Use that jab.
00:29:59Use that jab.
00:30:09Use that jab.
00:30:10That's how it works for you.
00:30:11No, no, no.
00:30:12Keep it straight.
00:30:13He doesn't like that.
00:30:14Let's go on top of this.
00:30:24Just another round, brother.
00:30:25Just another round.
00:30:26All right, we begin round number five.
00:30:29We said at the outset, this could be the toughest test for Joe Casamayor.
00:30:34And so far, Roberto Garcia has looked pretty good.
00:30:39Do you think Casamayor looks confident here, Bobby?
00:30:43Well, he doesn't look as confident as he did earlier because he's just been in the first four rounds already and he's not gotten his way at all.
00:30:50He's had a few good moments of brilliance, but not like normal.
00:30:53Normally, he goes in, does what he wants, and he walks out.
00:30:55He performs.
00:30:56He's going to either rise to the occasion here or stock may come down just a little bit.
00:31:01Well, he may be confused just a bit here by the bit of awkward style implied by Garcia.
00:31:09His corner told me that the jab is key, and I believe they're correct.
00:31:12Once he has that jab moving in Garcia's face, sets up everything else.
00:31:15No question.
00:31:16Casamayor generally with superior boxing skills in the past have been able to control the action and pick his opponents apart,
00:31:24but so far not the case here against Garcia.
00:31:28Garcia landed a nice right up the left hook.
00:31:31They were solid and they shook Casamayor just a little bit.
00:31:34And that gets the crowd going, mostly behind the Californian.
00:31:38Casamayor is consistently waiting for Garcia to come in to counter.
00:31:41He's not leading and encountering the punches that Garcia has, and he's not really being busy enough.
00:31:47And Garcia's showing more quickness than I thought he had.
00:31:50Casamayor just elbowed Garcia with his shoulder.
00:31:53Yeah, he's been using a lot of dirty tactics here I've noticed tonight.
00:31:58Used a shoulder and an elbow inside, Casamayor.
00:32:00He got away with an elbow earlier as well.
00:32:04Also a backhand, you recall, and also he tried to prop with his entire body earlier.
00:32:11A wrestling move.
00:32:15Garcia keeping his defense tight, keeping the pressure on.
00:32:18Not quite as much as I would have preferred if I were a restrainer, but doing a pretty nice job so far.
00:32:23And all of that, of course, could be signs of frustration for Casamayor.
00:32:27Nice right hand to the body by Garcia.
00:32:33Of course, much too early to tell, but that is just, that is never going to land.
00:32:40I could see that one coming.
00:32:42Telegraph that from Reno, right?
00:32:43Yeah, that was bad.
00:32:45Garcia and 11 to 100 dogs thinking major upset here.
00:32:50Round five, as we approach the final 30 seconds.
00:33:02The chance of Robert for Garcia.
00:33:07Got tremendous support here at the crowd.
00:33:13Garcia switched to a softball stance briefly there.
00:33:17But once again, he's showing the one big right hand, and that's it.
00:33:20Bang, bang.
00:33:21Now, jab right hand, jab right hand.
00:33:23More like one hook.
00:33:24Who needs to throw combinations, needs more punches than bunches.
00:33:27Casamayor making him miss, but not making him pay.
00:33:32You're going to be the new champ.
00:34:00Garcia working his way in there.
00:34:03Doing what he needs to.
00:34:04Pressing the attack.
00:34:05Trying to make Casamayor miss.
00:34:06There's a nice right hand on the left hook.
00:34:08That really staggered.
00:34:09Casamayor just briefly, but they were clean.
00:34:11The two best punches landed around.
00:34:13Now we're locked into the end tactics.
00:34:15Watch Casamayor's shoulder.
00:34:17Elbow and shoulder right in his face.
00:34:19That's straight out dirty.
00:34:21That's some nasty tactics right there.
00:34:24End of the round is a big, wild right hand.
00:34:26It was just outrageous to even throw.
00:34:27That was Telegraph.
00:34:28He could have saw that coming from the other side of the county.
00:34:33But keeping the pressure on still being pretty effective.
00:34:35I gave that round to Garcia.
00:34:37Garcia has been talking to Casamayor as Casamayor jumps all over Garcia
00:34:41to begin the sixth round.
00:34:43The left-hander, very aggressive here.
00:34:46It's as if he's saying, I've just about had enough from you.
00:34:49There's a left hand and that staggers Garcia.
00:34:52The speed and you don't see those punches.
00:34:54Another left hand.
00:34:55Here it is.
00:34:56Through the defensive club.
00:34:58And Garcia is being run.
00:35:00Casamayor wants to end it right here in round six.
00:35:04He took the point away from him because he kept hitting him behind the head and holding.
00:35:14And he said the break stopped punching.
00:35:15And he kept punching in the back of Garcia's head and he took the point.
00:35:19How interesting.
00:35:20Casamayor losing a point.
00:35:24All the dirty tactics taking their toll.
00:35:28And you know what?
00:35:29He deserved to lose the point.
00:35:31It wasn't like it was the first one of any kind.
00:35:34But what it does.
00:35:35A straight left hand.
00:35:36Right on the nose of Garcia, Bobby.
00:35:39It allows Garcia to get back in the game by scoring reasons.
00:35:43Tough break for Casamayor.
00:35:46Who's clearly...
00:35:49Oh, destroying Garcia.
00:35:51But then Casamayor walked right into a punch.
00:35:54Garcia landed good, but he's too hurt to really must up the power he needs.
00:35:57Hold it, hold it.
00:35:58Let it up.
00:35:59Let it up.
00:36:00What an assault here in round six.
00:36:03That's a barrage.
00:36:04Another straight left.
00:36:05Garcia looks like he's maybe ready to go.
00:36:07Garcia has a pretty good chin, Steve.
00:36:10But here's the problem.
00:36:11This kid is too accurate.
00:36:12Casamayor is not missing any of those left hands.
00:36:14Garcia just keeps buckling and then hangs in there.
00:36:18Casamayor smothering Garcia with punches.
00:36:23Huge left hands to the head.
00:36:29Coming up to a minute remaining in round six.
00:36:32I don't think he's...
00:36:33And it's been non-stop by Casamayor.
00:36:34I have a feeling he's not going to make the end of the round.
00:36:36It's just a feeling the look in his eyes.
00:36:38Garcia is really in trouble.
00:36:39And Casamayor unrelenting.
00:36:40Another straight left hand.
00:36:41That's been his big weapon.
00:36:42Forget the jab.
00:36:43He's just gone for the heavy lumber.
00:36:44There's another straight left hand right on the head.
00:36:46Casamayor is not a big one-punch knockout artist.
00:36:47If this was Rosalino Freitas, the fight would be over.
00:36:50But he has the speed.
00:36:51He has the numbers of punches.
00:36:52Attrition will get Garcia eventually.
00:36:53And his power has improved.
00:36:54And that's on display right here.
00:36:56Oh, oh, oh.
00:36:57Garcia trying to weather this assault.
00:36:58This storm.
00:36:59Step back.
00:37:00Step back.
00:37:01Step back.
00:37:02In round six.
00:37:03He's got 15 more seconds.
00:37:04And he may just weather it.
00:37:05I didn't think he could do it.
00:37:06He looked too hurt.
00:37:07I don't know if he punched himself up.
00:37:08Blood streaking from the right eye of Garcia.
00:37:09Come on.
00:37:10No.
00:37:11Come on.
00:37:12Let's see where it is.
00:37:13If it clouds his vision.
00:37:14Go on.
00:37:15No.
00:37:16And he's gone.
00:37:17And he's on display right here.
00:37:18Oh, oh.
00:37:19Garcia trying to weather this assault.
00:37:20This storm.
00:37:21In round six.
00:37:22He's got 15 more seconds.
00:37:23And he may just weather it.
00:37:24I didn't think he could do it.
00:37:25He looked too hurt.
00:37:26But now we have to find out Casamayor has punched himself out.
00:37:27Blood streaking from the right eye of Garcia.
00:37:29Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
00:37:31Oh, oh, oh, oh.
00:37:32Oh, oh.
00:37:33oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
00:37:34Let's see where it is, if it clouds his vision around by Casamayla.
00:37:47Listen up.
00:37:49If you're not doing what you do right now, but you've got to take a deep breath.
00:37:58You've got to try to walk around this.
00:38:04Let's go.
00:38:08Early on, Casamayla came out, and he came out this round with a vengeance.
00:38:12And he lands that left hand, and that's what started everything.
00:38:15Garcia walks right into it.
00:38:16I don't believe he ever saw it, Steve.
00:38:17You see the look in his eyes as if he couldn't focus, and it started.
00:38:24Now, here he won't clinch.
00:38:25He starts hitting him behind the head.
00:38:26There you see one of them.
00:38:28I didn't see the other two, but I know Kenny Bales had warned him and warned him,
00:38:32and eventually the point could be done.
00:38:37The cut looks to be on the side near the top.
00:38:42The eyebrow of the right eye.
00:38:44And that could pose some problems.
00:38:46Now, for the first seconds of round six, Casamayla threw straight left after straight left.
00:38:51It was a painful three minutes for Garcia.
00:38:54But Casamayla docked one point for holding and hitting.
00:38:57No, so the round, instead of being a 10-8 or even a 10-7 round,
00:39:01it becomes like a 9-8 round, which keeps, at least scoring-wise, keeps Garcia in the flight.
00:39:05And he's landing a nice right hand.
00:39:06Nice right hand, indeed, by Garcia.
00:39:16Well, the fans at home have Garcia ahead convincingly.
00:39:19I didn't have him up like that, and after the last round, he moved a whole lot closer.
00:39:23But I had Garcia winning the fight, and I think that Casamayla also recognized that he was having a problem,
00:39:29and he came out in the last round like an animal with a purpose.
00:39:32The blood doesn't seem to be bothering Garcia, not affecting him adversely.
00:39:39He seems to be outside the eye, on the right of the eye.
00:39:43He's very aggressive here in round seven.
00:39:46Turned into a very interesting fight here now.
00:39:50I had a 3-2 and 1 even, but the fact that a matter of the point was deducted from Casamayla,
00:39:57Casamayla plus the knockdown, the jocks around, but Casamayla still won the last round,
00:40:01so it winds up being one of those fights which 3-2 won't even,
00:40:04but even those 3-2 rounds, I have a draw and scoring.
00:40:07The gritty game, Garcia continues to eat a lot of blood.
00:40:12Straight left hands, landing almost at will by Casamayla.
00:40:17That right hand was blocked by the left bar, Joel Casamayla.
00:40:22Casamayla has come alive, he got his wake-up call.
00:40:25And round six, and there's the blood.
00:40:28He's bleeding profusely down the right side of his face, Garcia.
00:40:32But he doesn't seem to be going into his eye.
00:40:38Thus blurring the vision.
00:40:40He's doing a lot of box, he's sitting back.
00:40:41He's not stepping too, Garcia, the way he works.
00:40:44They look at the eye now.
00:40:48It's not hurting his vision, so we'll go ahead.
00:40:50They can hear the ringside position say what, uh, what I just said.
00:40:53It's not hurting his vision, so go ahead.
00:40:59Round seven continues.
00:41:01Andy Bayless warning Casamayla, watch the head.
00:41:03Now, nothing wrong with Casamayla confidence now.
00:41:17Oh, holy, let him up, let him up, let him up, let him up, let him up.
00:41:29As we hit the final seconds of round seven.
00:41:32Another effective one for the champion.
00:41:34But I'm not sure why the champion has laid back so much in this round.
00:41:37The last round was, he was so dominant on the attack.
00:41:39Why not do it again?
00:41:43Not as consistent as he usually is, correct.
00:41:50It is a family affair with Garcia, as we mentioned, his father and brother in the corner.
00:41:55But Garcia's mom, Virginia, can't bear to watch her son fight.
00:41:58So while Roberto's in the ring, she stays back at the hotel with Roberto's sons, Roberto Five and Eduardo Two.
00:42:04There they are in the room.
00:42:06Not unusual, of course, in this sport.
00:42:07Very difficult for certain relatives, particularly mothers, to watch.
00:42:11Who wants to see their loved ones get beat up?
00:42:13As we take you back to the corner, and there's dad, Eduardo working on his son, Roberto.
00:42:22You hear what they're saying there, listen to me, you gotta go.
00:42:43Round number eight.
00:42:56Let's get it over to Jim Gray for a report on Garcia's eye.
00:42:59Jim?
00:43:00All right, Steve.
00:43:01I talked to Dr. James Game.
00:43:02He looked at the eye of Garcia during the stoppage in the last round.
00:43:05He said the cut is not very deep, and it is not affecting his vision at all.
00:43:09And he is in no peril at this time of stopping the fight because of the current condition of the eye.
00:43:14Steve?
00:43:15All right, Jim.
00:43:16That's what we thought from here at our vantage point.
00:43:19As round eight continues, what is turning into, what has turned into a stirring bout.
00:43:26Well, you know, I'm really still surprised.
00:43:28The round that he came forward, round six, he almost annihilated Garcia.
00:43:32And Garcia, I said before, couldn't win the fight going backwards.
00:43:36And I don't understand why now he's moving.
00:43:38I mean, maybe his arms are top.
00:43:39Maybe he's punched and killed out a little bit.
00:43:40Maybe he's just deserving energy.
00:43:41But this isn't a statement he wants to make coming off such a resounding, terrific round.
00:43:51Well, let's see if Casemiro does have it in him to end this in dramatic fashion.
00:43:55After struggling a bit early on against Roberto Garcia, and then coming on real strong in round six.
00:44:03But not able to put Garcia away in the seventh.
00:44:06And this is round eight.
00:44:10Well, the point to Dutton once again from Casemiro neutralized the knockdown, took away the events.
00:44:15That gives him the scoring.
00:44:16But he did win the round either way.
00:44:18And he won the last one.
00:44:19So now he's made this fight in a different direction.
00:44:24Well, if this were to be stopped, it could be very interesting on the judges' scorecards.
00:44:30Fans at home only give Casemiro round six and two.
00:44:33Hold on.
00:44:34Hold on.
00:44:35Sit back here, fellas.
00:44:36There we go.
00:44:37As we come up to the final minute of round eight.
00:44:38Scheduled for 12 for the WBA Super Featherweight title.
00:44:42Garcia in the white trunks.
00:44:47The former champion, Casemiro.
00:44:50The champion making his second defense.
00:44:52Oh, a heavy body punch by Garcia.
00:44:56And Kenny Bayless is saying it was south of the border.
00:45:00I thought it was on the belt line, Steve.
00:45:02I didn't see that to be luck.
00:45:04And the belt line, as we all know, is legal.
00:45:06Well, it was borderline.
00:45:11Kenny Bayless being very cautious.
00:45:14Garcia has a little bit of fire back in his eyes.
00:45:16He's got a clear head now.
00:45:19You really get a good look at that eye right now with less than 30 seconds left in round eight.
00:45:24Mark Ratner, the executive director of the Nevada Athletic Commission,
00:45:27and one of the best in the business.
00:45:29Look out.
00:45:30That was a slip.
00:45:31Signaled to us that the cut by Garcia's eye was caused by a punch, not a head punch.
00:45:35It was a slip.
00:45:36It was one of Garcia's best combinations right before he slipped connecting against Casemiro.
00:45:47Much better round for Garcia, Steve.
00:45:49Well, it's been an awkward fight here tonight.
00:45:58Let's go inside the ropes with Bobby Chex.
00:46:01South Portland and Gustav Stiles can sometimes do this.
00:46:04Watch here.
00:46:05There's one that's kind of a half a left hook and a throw to the ground.
00:46:08Then a little later on, the little push is shoved.
00:46:11Look out.
00:46:12Look out.
00:46:13Look out.
00:46:14Look out.
00:46:15Look out.
00:46:16Look out.
00:46:17Look out.
00:46:18Look out.
00:46:19The shoulder bang right to the jaw.
00:46:20He's seen enough.
00:46:21Here's a little bit of punching behind the head and holding any of him behind the head.
00:46:23And he's not going to let this fight get out of control.
00:46:25He takes the point away.
00:46:26And they're fighting a little more cleanly now.
00:46:31And another low blow took place in this last round.
00:46:35Now, see, that was on the belt line.
00:46:36That was not low.
00:46:37That was a legal blow.
00:46:38I agree.
00:46:39By the rule.
00:46:40Let's go, go, go.
00:46:41Let's go.
00:46:42That was on the belt line.
00:46:43Kenny Bayless, who earlier deducted a point from Joel Casemiro for a low blow,
00:46:47cautioning Roberto Garcia.
00:46:49Round nine.
00:47:02Look out.
00:47:03Step back clean, guys.
00:47:04There we go.
00:47:05Although we've come close, there have been no official knockdowns thus far in the fight.
00:47:09But there has, there was some official staggering.
00:47:12Yes.
00:47:14A bunch of official staggering mistakes, man.
00:47:16Oh, stop.
00:47:17Step back.
00:47:18Watch it.
00:47:19Watch it.
00:47:20New category we just came up with.
00:47:24Oh!
00:47:25Garcia's down!
00:47:28Speaking of knockdowns.
00:47:29Just like that, sort of a delayed reaction as he went down to the seat of his pants.
00:47:33He goes down for the ninth time in his career.
00:47:35First time of this fight.
00:47:42I think it was a little bit of a flash knockdown.
00:47:44It wasn't a big hurtful knockdown.
00:47:45He just walked into a shot and it just stopped him.
00:47:48And he got up quickly.
00:47:49He's got two minutes to get through this round.
00:47:52And again, he's being pummeled on top of the head.
00:47:56He takes it.
00:47:57He goes down.
00:47:58Down goes the ref too.
00:47:59And he's stopping the fight.
00:48:00Kenny Bayless stops the fight here at round nine.
00:48:03He's seen enough, Steve.
00:48:04And the sportsmanship here as the two embrace.
00:48:06Casamayor hugging Roberto Garcia.
00:48:07Tremendous respect.
00:48:08That big left hand of Joe Casamayor coming through here tonight.
00:48:09You know, sometimes it's a funny sport.
00:48:10The two men are trying to beat each other in depth in the first, wherever amount of rounds
00:48:11the fight goes.
00:48:12And then immediately upon hearing the bell ends the fight, they hug.
00:48:14Very strange sport.
00:48:15It is a different breed.
00:48:16There's a brouhaha in the stands right now.
00:48:19I guess between the two factions, those supporting Garcia and those behind Casamayor, this is
00:48:36very unfortunate.
00:48:37It's off to our right across the way over there.
00:48:44he's okay it's off to our right across the way over there and let's hope they're able to control
00:48:50that action in the stands right now as things really get ugly around us but a terrific fight
00:48:56in the ring between joe casemayor and roberto garcia who hung in there as long as he could
00:49:03casemayor an 11-1 favorite able to prevail and remain undefeated and keep his title
00:49:09he retains his wba super featherweight crown his second successful defense now 24-0
00:49:16and add another knockout to his belt 15 i was impressed with the way he fought and when he
00:49:22fought he did a little too much running and moving for my taste i know that was part of their strategy
00:49:26to get garcia tired but they didn't really get garcia that tired they had to make him work
00:49:30when he came out in the sixth round he looked terrific but i still don't believe he beats
00:49:35garcia being consoled by fernando vargas now congratulating joel casemayor as they worked
00:49:40on that right eye of garcia first knockdown is a simple straight left hand right here
00:49:47he didn't see it he was a little off bound his feet were squared up and down he went
00:49:53look at it again watch his feet well you can't really see his feet here but he's squared up
00:49:59and he gets hit right in the butt and he just goes down and you can see he's not really glassy-eyed
00:50:04he shaking his head he's basically okay but at the end of the fight he was not okay that you
00:50:08see his legs come out front of him he doesn't stand up well and he gets hit with a shot on top
00:50:13of the head right there that really rocks him look at his legs that shot on top of the temple
00:50:18unbelievable not quite the left hook that bentaki gave him but an overhand left
00:50:24nonetheless it did the job look at his reaction after that left hand
00:50:28you talk about being wobbled and having that one right there in the temple
00:50:34you see him his legs are never the same and his eyes roll back in his head to a degree
00:50:38probably a very very good call to stop the fight to prevent any more harm
00:50:42from possibly happening to garcia
00:50:43so garcia has now lost three of his last four
00:50:47the former ibm junior lightweight champ drops to 33 and 3
00:50:55no shame to lose to a champion the caliber of joel casemayor
00:51:00i'm not sure that his powers increased any from the last time out
00:51:07although garcia does have a pretty good gym
00:51:09i think the speed factor and i've always said i've said it many times speed times mass
00:51:13equals destructive power the fact that garcia didn't see a lot of the shots
00:51:17helped to hurt him more he's still not a big puncher
00:51:20casemayor but he's dangerous because he's very quick and froze
00:51:23very accurately good numbers
00:51:25all right let's go up to the end of the ring and jimmy lennon jr
00:51:30with the official word
00:51:31ladies and gentlemen we have a time of one minute fourteen seconds
00:51:37in round number nine a referee in charge kenny bayless stops the contest the winner by way of
00:51:44technical knockout he is still undefeated and still the wba super featherweight champion of the world
00:51:52coel
00:51:53el cepillo casemayor
00:51:57we'll give you the particulars later but interestingly i gotta point this out because we get it so quickly
00:52:07and these guys do such a great job here our stage manager joel farfstein
00:52:11how about this
00:52:13two of the three judges had garcia ahead
00:52:15and another one had it even but we'll give you the exact numbers a little bit later after we give you the online scoring as well
00:52:23i only had casemayor ahead by a point so i understand it is just one round swings a two-point change so
00:52:28okay so we're standing by for post-fight interviews let's get it up to jim gray jim
00:52:34all right thank you very much
00:52:36joel congratulations to you luis luis we need you to interpret right now
00:52:41was this more trouble than you had expected tonight
00:52:44he says you know he was doing exactly what his corner was telling him don't hurry up
00:53:00take your time four or five rounds box them keep them moving make them catch flies and you know
00:53:06after that just take over and that's exactly what he did he came out in the six and had him hurt
00:53:10but luis as joel told us before the fight you thought that this would be over by the fourth
00:53:14round it wasn't what happened
00:53:17he says that's a little cuban trick tell him we're going to go get him after four because we know he's only a four-round fighter
00:53:34and after that we take over so we just told him we're going to get him inside of four
00:53:38just to get the guy thinking and then we took we took over a little cuban trick
00:53:41he's been hanging around his buddies over here robbing at him
00:53:44as he gets his gloves back joel let me ask you
00:53:47did you feel as though you were at your best tonight was this your best performance
00:53:52yeah definitely was you know it was a good night because he was an experienced guy but
00:54:06this proves tonight one more time i'm the best 130 ponder in the world i got a couple of people
00:54:10who are standing here in this interview rob schneider and adam sandler of course you know
00:54:14them from all of their great entertainment you guys are peering in here do you have any questions
00:54:17you want to ask joel uh just uh very happy uh to be in the ring and not being uh hit right now
00:54:22robbie of course you were one of the great fighters weren't you uh back in the day this belt
00:54:26was mine but i'm glad to give it over uh grande grande i just it's big it was big he just hits big
00:54:33he is big and uh we're just happy to be outside the ring you know what i'm saying baby what happened
00:54:39he says he had all his friends in miami garbay or toddle all his friends in cuba he'll be back on monday
00:54:55well wait one second couple more fights a couple more questions about the fight in the sixth round
00:54:59you lost a point you didn't agree with the referee kenny bayless what happened
00:55:03he was very very unhappy but you know he was the shot wasn't underneath he was the one that was
00:55:18holding okay because he was getting knocked out and they took a point away from me so he was kind
00:55:22of upset about that okay free test next correct what about that he's ready for anybody in the
00:55:31world he is the best 130 pound in the world let's get it on fredas roberto duran of the year 2000
00:55:37against joel casemar right this is next though correct 2000 let's make it happen baby
00:55:41hold on a second hold on a second one more thought here mayweather against corrales how do you see
00:55:49that fight he says you know it's a hard fight you know for both guys but you know he'll take on
00:55:58either room doesn't matter he says he wants to say hi to his family in california and everybody in
00:56:08miami all his family in miami too all right congratulations to you joel guys good to see
00:56:13you thank you louis back to you steve all right jim thanks very much louis to cuba is getting a
00:56:18little psyched up there the manager of casa mayor as we check the online scoring results from our
00:56:24main event the fans at home had it garcia six and casa mayor three and how about the uh the judges
00:56:34here at ringside as uh we gave you a little bit of a preview dwayne ford 77-74 casa mayor las vegas
00:56:43judge montreal's guise utras had it even at 76 apiece and another local judge from vegas dave
00:56:51moretti had garcia ahead 76-74 how did you have it again i had a very very slight edge going into
00:56:58that ninth round for casa mayor but see some of the early some of the early rounds were so close
00:57:03and one point difference neither judge in some of the early rounds it was a real chess match
00:57:07a one point difference for me the judge is a two-point swing and scoring what were the elements that
00:57:12made it that close well there wasn't a lot of punching in the early rounds there's a lot of
00:57:15chess match a lot of cat and mouse that smell was really jabbing but not really being effective
00:57:19and landing the punches and coming forward effective aggressiveness was all garcia so
00:57:23early on garcia did have a lead but it vanished pretty quick well it all became academic though
00:57:28with that it did just a couple of punches to the head and down went to garcia and a knockout
00:57:32victory for joel casemayor freitas is next the brazilian powerhouse the wbo uh super featherweight
00:57:38champion uh now he's 28 and 0 with 28 knockouts but despite that is he ready for casemayor i'm not
00:57:45sure he's quite ready for the boxing skills and speed and evasiveness of a casemayor he hasn't
00:57:49really eased up in quality of opponents he's beaten he's beat them all he's knocked them all out
00:57:53but not all of them have this kind of quality actually none of them have had this kind of
00:57:57quality i think casemayor wins a decision i don't think that fight though i really don't think that
00:58:02fight goes uh in any short distance i think there's a real long hard fight for both fighters
00:58:06a lot of cat and mouse early for both of them too freighters trying to land the big bomb
00:58:09casemayor trying to stay out of harm's way bobby just for argument's sake say casemayor defeats
00:58:14freitas and corrales defeats mayweather in their upcoming showdown later this month can casemayor
00:58:21beat corrales your guy at 130 i don't think anybody can beat corrales keep saying he's six feet tall
00:58:26he has great range natural assets good durability also an innate factor that he has he has the speed he
00:58:32has the power he has shown focus great focus and incredible endurance he brings those to the table
00:58:37with all the other natural assets he has and his boxing skills i just believe it's impossible to
00:58:41beat at 130 also uh corrales uh hoping to beat the legal system right now as he looks to extricate
00:58:47himself from some illegal problems as well all right so that's the story on the ongoing saga of
00:58:52the 130 pound division let's take a final look at tonight's results from las vegas here in our
00:58:58co-feature augie sanchez with a big hometown victory over two-time world champion luisito
00:59:04espinoza putting sanchez in contention for the title augie sanchez made a statement he needed to
00:59:09make a statement to the division after the terrible loss i met he made a resounding statement here tonight
00:59:14against espinoza he's back and he's ready for everybody and at our main event joel casemayor
00:59:19remained undefeated continued his reign as wba super featherweight champion another man who needed to
00:59:25make a statement in probably the most jam-packed with talent division there is he made a statement
00:59:29to the other champions by beating garcia the way he did that was very important i think if he didn't
00:59:33do it that way the statement would have been less
