00:00It is cold and windy, perfect for the AFC North.
00:07Our Melanie Collins moments ago with Steelers running back Jalen Warren.
00:12Well, Jalen, round two of this heated divisional matchup that got us some offensive fireworks a month ago.
00:17What was it like playing in that first game, and you think we can expect more of that today?
00:21Yes, ma'am. It was, you know, it wasn't what we expected, but, you know, they know us, we know them.
00:27We come out today for a different outcome.
00:29Yeah, going up against a Bengals defense down there, two starting edge rushers today.
00:32We've got 35-mile-an-hour wind gusts in the forecast.
00:35How can you use that to your advantage in the run game?
00:38I mean, it's all the way in our advantage.
00:40We love running the ball.
00:41When we do, it's successful, so hopefully we stick to that today.
00:44Good luck today. Thank you.
00:45Trent, there's been a lot of discussion locally about Jalen Warren getting more touches, maybe not touching the ball enough.
00:52Well, based on his comments to Melanie, I expect him to get more touches today because it seems like he's pretty dialed in on that run game.
00:59We then have the flip of the coin.
01:01The Bengals one deferring to the second half.
01:03McPherson has the ball teed up.
01:05The wind hard to predict, but it is gusty.
01:08And this will be Keyshawn Williams who will take it at the two for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
01:13Getting a block and then wrestle down on the play, coming through a defensive back, Chuck Clark, which takes us to Aaron Rodgers.
01:24He'll be 42 in December.
01:26Well, and he's still getting it done, though.
01:28That's the thing about it.
01:29You know, I know, obviously, in this game, age is a big thing with the two quarterbacks, 40 and older.
01:35But the numbers he's been able to put up, the fact that he still has the quick release, and he's going to need that today.
01:41Rodgers comes in with the fifth most touchdown passes.
01:45He has 18 coming in.
01:47And here we go, with the first play of the game and a first and ten.
01:53Rodgers back.
01:55Blocked in there, and a quick throw.
01:58D.K. Metcalf is rustled out of bounds by Oside.
02:03And he gets out to about the 26-yard line.
02:05It is a gain of five on the play.
02:07Well, Rodgers was trying to get out to his left.
02:12He had an open receiver, but because of that pressure coming from the left, he had to flush out to the right.
02:16And after this play, he's not very thrilled with how it happened.
02:20He was mad that he had to flush and take the short completion.
02:23Ciamalo is back as the left guard today after missing last week.
02:28Tenured veteran out of Oregon State.
02:30Running back is Warren.
02:32Second down and six.
02:33And Rodgers.
02:34And Warren tries to dance just a bit.
02:38Breaking a tackle.
02:39Finally brought down.
02:40You can run against this defense.
02:42It's been shown the last couple of weeks.
02:44It is a gain on the play, making it third down and one.
02:49Rookie linebackers for the Cincinnati Bengals.
02:52You know that Rodgers will be viewing them.
02:54Definitely.
02:55With Carter and Knight, second and fourth round picks.
02:57They're the guys in charge now.
03:00Logan Wilson was traded to Dallas.
03:02You mentioned the offensive line for the Steelers.
03:03He's going to get a quick snap here.
03:05It's the tush push.
03:06Connor Hayward will take it.
03:08His third rush of the season.
03:10He bulldozes past the 35.
03:12It is a first down for the Steelers.
03:14Getting a yard.
03:15And the drive continues.
03:17And this team is very good on third and short yardage.
03:20Well, they are.
03:21And an important factor coming into this is neither one of these teams are very good at time of possession.
03:25And the fact that you're able to run the ball on second down.
03:28You get the first down on third down.
03:30The clock's moving.
03:31You talk about time of possession.
03:33Getting first downs.
03:34Getting third down conversions.
03:35That's going to be an important part of this game plan today.
03:37Warren the back with a couple tied ends.
03:39And Rodgers first and tenth.
03:41And the fake to Warren.
03:46Here comes Osai.
03:47There goes the pass.
03:48DK Metcalf.
03:49Pass midfield.
03:50And a first down catch and run.
03:52They'll put him out of bounds.
03:54Hitting the chalk at the 50.
03:55A grab on the play of 18.
03:58Oren Burks chased him down.
04:00First down.
04:00Another one for the Steeler offense.
04:03Metcalf's lined up over on the left.
04:04Just a fake with the run to the left.
04:07And then with the bootleg out.
04:08He's the only one dragging across the field.
04:10He gets lost.
04:11But Rodgers is able to find him.
04:13On the outside part of that defense.
04:15To pick up the first down.
04:19Warren remains the back.
04:21Look at DK Metcalf.
04:23On a first and ten pitch.
04:25And a block out there by Anderson the lineman.
04:27And then brought down by a couple.
04:29Including Miles Murphy.
04:31Gain of three.
04:32Down to the 47 yard line.
04:35Well you look at what the defense has done here this season.
04:37And 33 points allowed.
04:39We've talked about that in the open.
04:41Just way too many points this team's given up.
04:44And then look at two straight losses.
04:46Scoring over 38 points.
04:4738 or more points.
04:50Needed a better performance today against this Steelers offense.
04:54They have allowed the Bengals defense.
04:56537 rushing yards past couple games.
05:00Coming off the bye.
05:01Pitch out second and seven.
05:03Warren.
05:03Spurs three.
05:04Cucks into the secondary.
05:06And now it's a foot race.
05:08Can they stop him there?
05:10A hit by Turner.
05:11Can't bring him down.
05:13What a run.
05:15Galloping for 35.
05:18He's to the 12.
05:19It's first and 10 Pittsburgh on the opening drive.
05:24Well this is more about the blocking up front.
05:27Great job by the Steelers.
05:29You're not going to bring him down with just an arm tackle.
05:32And it's definitely not two hand touch.
05:34They're not close enough to be able to wrap him up.
05:36And Warren takes full advantage of it with the great blocking.
05:39I think he thought he was going to go low there.
05:40So he was going to hurdle.
05:41But there was no hurdle to be made.
05:45And he's hurdled a lot.
05:47Hurdled last week.
05:48In fact in Los Angeles.
05:49Running back is Gainwell at the 12.
05:52Opening drive.
05:53First and 10.
05:54Rogers.
05:55The pitch out.
05:55Gainwell.
05:56And getting a block from his tight end.
05:59Washington.
06:00And brought down on the play.
06:02Sample and others over there to make the stop.
06:05That's the 15th explosive run.
06:09Against this Cincinnati defense.
06:11In the last three games.
06:13Well and that's why I put it in the open.
06:15Because Al Golden talked to me about it this week.
06:17Saying that we got to stop the explosive runs.
06:20We've had a good job of at the line of scrimmage.
06:22And getting some tackles in the backfield.
06:24But it's those explosive runs that keep the drive going.
06:27In big chunks of yardage.
06:28And that probably is one of the things his offense has lacked.
06:31Explosive playmakers.
06:33Second and eight.
06:34Gainwell the back.
06:35And he gets the call.
06:36A foot racer with the rookie corner.
06:38Touchdown.
06:41Aaron Rodgers.
06:46With a touchdown pass.
06:48Number 522.
06:5011 yards to his running back.
06:52On the opening drive for the Steelers.
06:55Well great job by Aaron.
06:57His eyes go to the right.
06:59And then he's able to get out to the left.
07:01And that foot race.
07:02Gainwell's going to win every time.
07:03Carter just doesn't have the speed to keep up with him.
07:05And Gainwell.
07:06He's a fast back.
07:07That's a one-on-one matchup that the Steelers will take every time.
07:11His first receiving touchdown of the season.
07:14Boswell with the extra point.
07:167-0 Pittsburgh.
07:19Bengals will now allow touchdowns on their opponent's opening drives in seven of their ten games.
07:24They had a big run of 35 by Warren.
07:27And then Gainwell will take it in.
07:30On the 11-yard catch-and-run touchdown for the Steelers.
07:33The way we go.
07:37The NFL on CBS is sponsored by Valspar Paint.
07:44Made for more.
07:47Kia.
07:48Movement that inspires.
07:52And by Kim's Healthcare.
07:54Designed for you and delivered to your door.
07:57Opening drive by the Steelers.
08:03Rodgers goes 3-3.
08:05They have scored on a game-opening possession.
08:08Seven touchdowns.
08:12And they've done it with Rodgers at the helm.
08:15So they make a mark.
08:16And here we go.
08:17A kickoff.
08:18And it will be taken by Charlie Jones.
08:21A return run a couple weeks ago.
08:2298 yards on a kickoff return.
08:24And devoured by Peyton Wilson.
08:29This takes us to 40-year-old Joe Flacco.
08:32Who has been absolutely terrific with 11 touchdowns and 2 picks.
08:37In his 4 previous games for Cincinnati.
08:40Well, like I said, it's hard to believe he's only been there a month, right?
08:43This is only his 5th start.
08:45The fact he's able to...
08:46And you see 200th career start.
08:48But the fact that he's been able to pick up this offense as quickly as he has has been pretty amazing.
08:54Flacco with the 1st and 10.
08:58Brown is the back.
09:00Flacco to the end.
09:01Harris the block.
09:03Flacco reads it well.
09:05Brings him down.
09:05They lose a couple on the play.
09:07Back to about the 28.
09:09Lost 1.
09:102nd down and 11.
09:12T.J. Watt with an alert defensive play.
09:14Well, you're going to watch Flacco as he gets this ball.
09:18He's going to start here and then works his progression all the way across the field.
09:21He gets to the 4th read.
09:25And the Steelers playing zone defense on 1st down.
09:28That's going to be something to keep an eye on.
09:30The Steelers love to play man-to-man defense.
09:32The 3rd most in the NFL.
09:33That time coming out with zone coverage.
09:35Keeping everything in front.
09:362nd down.
09:3711.
09:38Flacco to the twirling running back ground.
09:40Redwell.
09:41Pucked down.
09:41Nice play.
09:42James Pierre, who is taking the plays for the injured and concussed.
09:47Darius Slade.
09:48No game.
09:493rd down and 11.
09:52They're looking at new safeties to this afternoon.
09:553rd game.
09:56These guys have been paired back there.
09:57Well, it's a change from what Joe Flacco saw the first time in this Bengals offense.
10:01Dalen Ramsey moving from corner back to the safety position.
10:04And Kyle Duggar fought over in a trade from New England.
10:08They went to zone on 2nd down as well.
10:11Let's see if we see more of that as this game continues.
10:165 in the secondary.
10:18Flacco 3rd and 11.
10:20Here they come.
10:21There he goes.
10:22Right at the marker.
10:23And looks like they got the first down.
10:25Yosifosh.
10:26Right in front of the defense.
10:27Out to the 39.
10:29Giving the first down.
10:30And a pickup of 11.
10:31Through the air.
10:32Is that ball just knifed its way through?
10:34First down Cincinnati.
10:36Well, and they're getting up to the ball quick here to try and...
10:38I'm guessing because of the spot, they don't want to challenge.
10:42Flacco again.
10:44Very little rush.
10:45Only 3.
10:46And to the logo.
10:47An incomplete looking for Jamar Chase.
10:50And the coverage on the play by a guy you talked about early on in this one.
10:54Joey Porter.
10:552nd down and 10.
10:56Well, and you can see after Porter knocks that away, he gets up and makes sure that Chase hears what he has to say.
11:00And Chase is still talking on his way back to the huddle.
11:03So, these two are going to go at it all day.
11:05So, against the Steelers a couple weeks ago, he threw Flacco for 342 yards.
11:11But this is a matchup today we're going to watch.
11:13We will see a lot of this today.
11:14When they do decide to go man-to-man, the interesting thing there, you saw Jalen Ramsey come down.
11:19So, all of a sudden, you've got a guy that's one of the best cover guys now playing safety.
11:22You can bring him down in a situation like that.
11:25You end up getting a double team on Jamar.
11:27That time, Porter able to knock it away.
11:29You just saw a graphic.
11:30Our folks down in the truck put up.
11:31200th career game start today for Flacco.
11:341 of 17 NFL quarterbacks in the great history of this game.
11:39Please reset the game.
11:40Fuck the 8-1-8.
11:41Bill Vinovich is our referee with a look at 7th-year head coach Zach Taylor of the Bengals.
11:49Trying to navigate life without Joe Burrow.
11:51They make the trade with Cleveland five days later.
11:54Flacco leaves the Browns, joins the Bengals.
11:57They play Green Bay tough.
11:59They're 1-3 since he's been the starter.
12:01Their offense has been terrific.
12:032nd-10, Brown the call.
12:06Tried to submarine and hit on the play by Kyle Duggar.
12:09They're the strong safety on a gain of 4 to the 43.
12:12Well, and it's no surprise that they're last in the NFL in running the football.
12:16Because of the numbers that Joe Flacco's been able to put up.
12:19Because of the numbers that the defense has allowed.
12:21A lot of times you're chasing.
12:23You're trying to keep up with it.
12:24And the points that they've been able to score has been outstanding with Flacco at the helm.
12:29This Bengals offense starts two rookie offensive linemen.
12:35And a second-year tackle.
12:37Very young.
12:383rd-and-6.
12:38And that left tackle looked like he was moving Brown.
12:48No yellow.
12:49Here's a pass.
12:51Yosivas, who's not doubled, is left free.
12:53Gets the first down pass on 3rd-and-6.
12:56Another completion through the air by Flacco.
12:587-yard.
12:59Yosivas, first down.
13:00Bengals.
13:01Well, it was good that Flacco got rid of the ball as quickly as he did.
13:04Watch Herbic.
13:04He's going to be on a stunt.
13:05He comes around to the inside, and he gets a free hit on Flacco.
13:09He's able to stand in there.
13:14Flacco said the other day that when he talked to us that,
13:18I'm not used to having two receivers getting doubled.
13:20Yes, Yosivas is open here on 1st-and-10 Browns, swerving his way.
13:25He goes into Steeler territory.
13:28Castro is there among a couple.
13:30It is a gain of 3-and-a-2nd-7 coming up for the Bengals.
13:34Well, you can see the numbers here.
13:37These are the games that Joe Flacco has started,
13:40and what they've been able to do offensively.
13:42You've got to remember, Burrow only played a game and a half.
13:44Today, this Pittsburgh defense is without Alex Highsmith and no Darius Slay, as we mentioned.
13:54So, two starters out.
13:56Flacco, his start.
13:57Second down, seven.
13:58Off right there, Herbic.
14:00And here's the run by Brown.
14:02And then hit by Queen and others.
14:05As you can see him, Duggar again at the bottom of that pile.
14:09Offside.
14:10Defense number 51.
14:11Five-yard penalty.
14:13Repeat second out.
14:13What about this Flacco quick release?
14:15I know he's maybe lingered a little longer today, but that quick release was something very important in the first meeting a month ago.
14:21It is.
14:22You have to get those, especially against this Steelers team.
14:24As I mentioned, they're second in the NFL with 32 sacks on the season.
14:29They're going to bring, and they're able to get pressure with just rushing forward.
14:31Yes, they like to blitz and they like to play man coverage, but they've got the benefit of having T.J. Watt and Herbic rushing from the outside.
14:38Hayward pushing the pocket.
14:40You're able to get some pressure.
14:41You've got to get that ball out of your hands.
14:43Chase on the move.
14:45Chase Brown gets the call.
14:47Swerving and accelerates into the secondary.
14:49He made a miss and finally brought down to the play by Ramsey.
14:52Nice swerving run and a pickup of 15.
14:56Another bingle first down to the 28 of the Steelers.
14:59Well, Chase Brown's been really good the last three weeks, especially over 100 scrimmage yards in those three games.
15:06And it's the guys up front.
15:07He doesn't even get touched until he's a good seven yards upfield.
15:10So, great job by the offensive line that time.
15:13Good vision by Brown and able to get it up into the secondary.
15:15He had 108 yards a month ago against this Pittsburgh defense on the ground.
15:21On his only 100-yard game this season.
15:27Brooks is the running back.
15:29Flacco to the air.
15:31In time.
15:32Flag, as you see.
15:34And to the side.
15:35Caught by Higgins.
15:36He's in right now.
15:38Let's see what the flag is about.
15:39It is a hold on Pittsburgh.
15:42It'll count.
15:43It's a 28-yard touchdown pass to Higgins.
15:47Illegal use of hands.
15:49Hands to the face.
15:51Defense over 97.
15:53Penalty decline.
15:54Don't lay.
15:55Touchdown.
15:56Wow.
15:56These two terrific quarterbacks with touchdown passes with their first possession this afternoon.
16:02Well, and the thing here is, it's starting off like the last game did, right?
16:07A lot of points.
16:07Higgins is just working a drag route.
16:09But watch as this play extends.
16:11He looks.
16:11He's not supposed to wheel this.
16:12But as the play breaks down, he's like, oh, I'm just going to go up the sideline.
16:17Flacco's able to find him.
16:18And with that matchup, it's an easy pitch and catch for a touchdown.
16:22Flacco with his 12th touchdown pass.
16:25Here is McPherson to try to tie the game in what has been a terrific start with a lot
16:31of wind and cold, blustery weather.
16:33It is good.
16:34Tied at 7.
16:35Flag has been thrown.
16:37That is the first opening drive touchdown by the Bengals since week 1 against the Browns.
16:45And by the way, the quarterback for Cleveland that day was Joe Flacco.
16:49Personal foul.
16:50Roughing the snapper.
16:51Defense number 94.
16:54Cincinnati, they'd like to take it from the 2 to the 1 and try for 2.
16:57Lye Black, and that is going to change this a little bit now.
17:00They're going to go for 2, as you heard.
17:02And Flacco is back out there.
17:05Super Bowl MVP in his 11 years with Baltimore.
17:10So it's roughing on the holder.
17:15Let's see.
17:17Oh, on the snapper, not the holder.
17:18Okay.
17:19And the snapper is William Wagner.
17:21He took it.
17:21Now the offense back out there to drive for 2.
17:24And the Bengals, who converted 3rd and 11 and 3rd and 6 on that game-opening drive for them,
17:34will drive for 2 to take the lead.
17:36Well, and you mentioned that Brooks was in on that last snap.
17:38There's no Samaze Pirine, who's inactive today.
17:42Chase Brown in there right behind Flacco.
17:44Two-point try.
17:46Flacco has started 5 of 6.
17:48And look at the direct snap.
17:49The Wildcat.
17:50Brown can't puncture.
17:51The last stop block was there.
17:53Big stop, and Cincinnati comes up short on the two-point try.
18:02Each quarterback with touchdown passes, Steelers by 1.
18:06Higgins with his seventh touchdown reception of the season.
18:16Flacco, who said, when I saw Drew Brees and Tom Brady play into their 40s, I thought maybe I could do it too, and he is.
18:24Yeah, he said it completely changed the framework, right?
18:27When you're starting out, you're first starting out, you're like, I want to be a starter.
18:30I want to play 5 years.
18:31I want to play 10 years.
18:32Whatever that may be.
18:33But then all of a sudden, he saw two guys doing it in their 40s.
18:35He's like, well, maybe that's something I could do too, and he's having success.
18:38Here's Jamison, who brings it up.
18:40He was just elevated, and he was brought down on the play by P.J. Jewels, who makes the stop.
18:46Deshaun Jamison with the return.
18:48Keep an eye on Flacco right here.
18:49And as this play goes, they're going to run this direction.
18:52They're going to run this direction, but watch the collapse of the corner out here.
18:56Nobody stays in the back.
18:58So just setting this up for later, if you all of a sudden get this similar type of situation, you can run the same type of motion.
19:04I don't know if Chase Brown can throw or not, but all of a sudden, you've got an opportunity to get an easy one back there
19:09if they're able to see what the reaction was of the Steelers' defense.
19:14Second possession for the Steelers.
19:16Jalen Warren is the back.
19:17We've got hot dog wrappers and all kinds of stuff blowing across this field today.
19:24Tumbleweed probably is next.
19:2519-yard line.
19:27It is first and 10.
19:28Great start for Rodgers and for Flacco.
19:30With Warren in the back and Aaron under center, it'll be first and 10.
19:35This is the number 29 offense.
19:37In motion there was the lineman Anderson, and the tackle is made on the play by Cam Sample.
19:43Mel?
19:44Yeah, Kev, the wind is whipping and swirling in all directions down here at field level.
19:48It's especially heavy in the south end of the stadium.
19:51There was actually a college game here yesterday on this field between Pitt and Notre Dame,
19:55but the field conditions are better than expected with no rain overnight.
19:58There are some sections of it that are better than others, but not a bunch of dig-up props to the grounds crew
20:04who was hard at work following that game making necessary repairs.
20:07A lot of guys wearing those seven studs crew in cleats today, though.
20:10Well, you answered my question.
20:11I was going to throw it back down to you for that.
20:13Here comes Gein.
20:14Well, in motion on a second down and eight.
20:16He gets the pass, a one-handed grab, a block by Metcalf,
20:19and then tackled out of bounds by Oren Burks,
20:22who played last year for the champion Eagles out to about the 29 on a pickup of eight
20:28and very close to a steal at first down, and they're going to move it.
20:33First down, another one.
20:34Boy, they're moving the chains well today.
20:36Yeah, they are, and all these are quick throws.
20:38Rodgers is four for four for 40 yards.
20:40Everything's been really quick out of his hands, slant, drag on the bootleg, a couple of swings.
20:45It's a good job by the Steelers, and the run game's been working.
20:49So good combination right now for the Steelers' offense.
20:55Jalen Warren, undrafted, but really emerging with hard work.
21:00First and ten, the fake there.
21:02Jones, the block at the left tackle.
21:04The pump fake, the chase, and the incompletion looking for the tied in Washington.
21:08Coverage on the play by the rookie, Knight.
21:11Second down and ten.
21:14Had a great visit with Aaron Rodgers, and you asked him the other day about, you know,
21:20when he breaks the huddle, what's the first thing he's looking at as we watch Metcalf,
21:25and maybe he had a little bit of space.
21:26Well, at the hard play fake there to the right, he's trying to get the deep.
21:29What's with the play fake there?
21:30He's trying to draw the safety, but the safety doesn't bite on it.
21:33So he wanted to throw that deep to Metcalf, but with the safety not falling for it.
21:39But back to your question, Kevin.
21:40He said he breaks the huddle.
21:41He starts low to high.
21:42It starts with the front.
21:43The front tells you.
21:45As Murphy jumps off sides there.
21:49Nutrizo infraction.
21:51Defense number nine.
21:52Five-yard penalty.
21:54So both starting defensive ends are out today for this Cincinnati defense, Hendrickson and Stewart.
22:01And they're going to have to kind of mix and match with the rotation of edge rushers this afternoon.
22:07Well, the former first-round pick, Murphy, there, that first series, I thought he was very disruptive.
22:12Got into the backfield a couple different times.
22:14He's the one that flushed Aaron Reiser's out of the pocket.
22:17That caused him to get frustrated and throw the ball out to his right.
22:21In the run game, he was in the backfield.
22:22But that time, just too eager jumping off sides.
22:25Second down, five.
22:26War in the back and the calls.
22:28Samalo trying to get a block and a tackle by the guy you just talked about, Miles Murphy.
22:32He was the number one pick out of Clemson a couple years ago.
22:36It is a gain of three out to the 37.
22:38Well, and back to your question a few plays ago with Rodgers.
22:40You know, I always love talking to the quarterbacks to see what their thought process is when they come out of the huddle.
22:45Because so much is done at the line of scrimmage now.
22:47Are you looking for nickel?
22:48Are you looking for dime defense?
22:50And so you're looking for rotation of safeties.
22:52And he said, you know, Tom Clemens, who was teaching him at Green Bay when he first came into the league,
22:57says you start with the front and work your way back.
22:59And that will tell you a lot about what you need to get to or what gives you the best advantage as an offense.
23:04Kenneth Gainwell is the back.
23:06Third down in two.
23:09With the handoff here, he drives his submarine.
23:11He'll be short and hit by a couple.
23:13You saw T.J. Slayton, an ex-packer in there.
23:16Burks also combining on the stop to the 38.
23:20Now it's fourth and one.
23:21Boy, this team is usually money on third and three, third and two, third and one.
23:24Now it's fourth and one.
23:26Offense is going to stay out there.
23:29Yeah, and bringing in their bigger personnel groups.
23:32Got Friarmuth and Washington and Skronic.
23:34They're running, run-blocking wide receiver.
23:36Three tight ends right now.
23:45Tomlin was telling us how physical that group can be.
23:48Connor Hayward, the tush push.
23:50And he looked like he was stoned at the line.
23:54I don't think he got it.
23:56Looks to be short.
23:57And if he is, look where the Bengals will take over.
24:00Oh, they give him it.
24:01They gave it to him without even the measurement.
24:03The official waved it forward.
24:05There must have been something else going on down there.
24:09Much of the surprise is at Taylor and us.
24:11Well, watch the sideline for the Bengals.
24:13They go crazy when it's waved.
24:15You see the official at the top.
24:17Well, there's no waved.
24:18He's the one that's calling it.
24:20The entire sideline is going crazy on the Bengals thinking they've got it.
24:26And the challenge.
24:27There goes the red flag thrown by Taylor.
24:31You're right.
24:32The far official ran in and was signaling, no, he did not get it.
24:36And I don't know if off a replay there's going to be enough to overturn it.
24:39The ball is on that side.
24:40So the official that comes running in, that's the side that the sneak goes to
24:45and can see the ball.
24:46Ruling on the field, a ruling of a first down.
24:49Time out.
24:53Minute and a half to play in the first quarter.
24:56Each quarterback with a touchdown pass.
24:58They're going to look at this again.
25:00A challenge by the Bengals on a first down run, perhaps.
25:06The NFL on CBS is sponsored by Swiffer.
25:11Stop cleaning.
25:13Start Swiffering.
25:14And by Chili's 3 for me.
25:18The best $10.99 you can eat.
25:21Well, the challenge unsuccessful, surprising many.
25:27We're going to bring in Gene Steratore here in just a second after this first play.
25:32Let's bring him in right now.
25:34Gene, what did you see on this?
25:35We thought he didn't make it.
25:37I'm with you, Kev.
25:38I don't think Carter Hayward made it there.
25:40Now, we see a little bit of a second effort after it appeared to me that the official on the top of the screen is starting to run in.
25:47I thought he was held up there short.
25:48You do see him kind of move forward there, but that was well after I believe the play was blown dead.
25:54It may be the situation, Trent said, where you just don't have something clear and obvious to overturn the ruling on the field.
25:59Well, Gainwell, the bat, first and 10.
26:01Gene, we thank you.
26:02He tries to take it inside.
26:03Hit by that rookie.
26:05Barrett Carter taking the place of the trained Logan Wilson and trying to gain it, too.
26:10Yeah, I mean, that's going to be disputed for a long time.
26:13The problem is, did you have enough to overturn it?
26:15Was it clear and obvious that Gene said?
26:16You know, the official on the far side of the field is the one that had the angle to the ball with the snap.
26:21This would be the best, but you're at a different angle up in the air.
26:26So the ball appeared.
26:27I mean, this is the ball right here, and there's where you've got to get to the 39.
26:30So you can understand why the Bengals were upset about it, but not enough to overturn it and keeps it dry alive for the Steelers.
26:38Second down, eighth.
26:39Fake to Warren.
26:40Blocked by Washington.
26:42An incomplete downfield for Metcalf.
26:45And the coverage by Dax Hill.
26:46Third and eight.
26:51Well, they're trying to get Metcalf down the field, and it looks like, Watts here in the slot.
26:55It looks like they're going to have, he's going to have his right arm hooked around the waist as he comes out of it.
26:59Watts as he reaches up there, see that right arm on the hip.
27:03They didn't determine, that's what Rodgers was looking for.
27:07They didn't determine that it was enough of an influence to warrant the flag.
27:11In well, the back.
27:16It's third down and eight for Pittsburgh.
27:18Each quarterback put the touchdown pass in this one.
27:24Into the nickel.
27:25Jones the block at the left tackle underneath.
27:27And it was caught by Austin.
27:30He's just beyond the 45.
27:32Shy of the first by four.
27:34And they're going to bring out the punting unit, and they cannot convert.
27:39On the Bengals that time, able to collapse the pocket, just rushing four.
27:44And that's why nearly knocked that ball loose, but it's not enough for a first down.
27:48But the Bengals, I thought, did a great job of the pass rush, closing that pocket in and collapsing it around.
27:55Rodgers forcing him to get rid of the ball.
27:58Waidman will punt, and his personal protector, Skoronik.
28:02It is windy.
28:03We don't even have any idea what these balls are going to do in the air.
28:07And it's fair caught, probably wise, by Charlie Jones.
28:11Hang time of 4-3, and well placed.
28:13We'll be back in 30 seconds to Pittsburgh after this on CBS.
28:20Lucas, when two people love each other very much, right?
28:25Um, ah, okay.
28:28Imagine me and your mom.
28:29Uh, don't do that.
28:31Imagine a magic hug that animals do.
28:35Hey, Chris, you're out.
28:36Huntley, you're in.
28:38Tyler Huntley, backup parent.
28:40If only there were backups in real life.
28:42What's up, little man?
28:43When two people love each other.
28:45But at least there's progressive to protect your home and auto.
28:48Wow, I feel really prepared for life now.
28:55Hunt by Pittsburgh since he's got it.
28:57On that defensive line for the Steelers today is Cameron Hayward.
29:02He is playing in his 221st game.
29:06He passes the legendary Hall of Fame center Mike Webster.
29:09Second most in Steelers history.
29:13Ben Roethlisberger at 249.
29:15Here we go.
29:16End of the first quarter with the first and ten and swerving as Brown.
29:19And brought down on the play by Queen,
29:21who is the second leading tackler for Tara Austin's Steelers defense.
29:26That is the end of the first quarter.
29:27Each quarterback with a touchdown pass.
29:30A two-point fail by Cincy.
29:32One-point lead for Pittsburgh.
29:33Let's go to the second.
29:41Starting the second quarter, Bengals at three and six.
29:44Steelers five and four in first place.
29:46Numbers from the first quarter.
29:49Jamar Chase said this is a must win for our Bengals.
29:52A critical game.
29:53And if they lose, they would be three games out.
29:56So it's all in front of them right now.
29:58Flacco with a touchdown pass earlier on.
30:01First and ten.
30:02And a handoff here to Chase Brown,
30:05who takes it up the middle and belts it on the play.
30:08Brandon Echols and a couple others there limiting him to a gain of two to the 15.
30:14Well, I know we made a lot about Jamar Chase
30:17and the numbers he had in this first matchup.
30:19And that first quarter only targeted one time and no receptions.
30:25And that's because the Steelers possessed the ball so much of that first quarter.
30:28Not a lot of opportunities.
30:29Just the one drive.
30:31Third down and four.
30:34Flacco is five of six.
30:39Tight end was back there as a back.
30:41A crossing pad and chase.
30:43He's being chased on the play by Pierre.
30:46And Wilson gets the first down, swerving near the 23.
30:51Picks up nine on third and four.
30:53It's a Bengal first down.
30:55Well, they were going to him the whole way.
30:56They cleared out on the inside.
30:58Watch.
30:58They're going to clear out.
30:59He's coming outside crossing.
31:01He's going to have three defenders.
31:03He's got here, here, and then you see 41 dropping out here.
31:06And he's able to catch it underneath and work his way around and get the first down
31:10and protect himself before taking a big hit.
31:1477th reception of the season.
31:15Chase Brown is the back.
31:19And a block by Brown.
31:21The left tackle.
31:22An incomplete looking for Jamar Chase.
31:24And shadowed down that sideline by Joey Porter.
31:27That is what you talked about.
31:29Chase called him a little bit handsy in the press this week.
31:33He was covering.
31:34He was trying to point out what happened the first time
31:37and the amount of penalties that Porter's been called on.
31:39And Porter was just reminding him all the way back to the huddle
31:42how the outcome of that play went.
31:44You'll see him at the top of the screen there,
31:45just one-on-one up the sideline, just trying to take a shot.
31:52And there he's reminding him what the result of the play was.
31:55So it's true.
31:55Yes.
31:56We'll see that all day.
31:57Bango offense coming off of consecutive games, averaging 40 points.
32:01Second down, 10.
32:03Chase Brown the back.
32:04Messy pocket.
32:06And he got the pass off.
32:07Yosevac, his third reception.
32:09Malik Harrison makes the stop, limiting him to a gain of two just beyond the 25.
32:16Well, it's just going to be a twist up front.
32:18And they're able to get somebody clean.
32:21Flacco able to get rid of the ball before taking the hit once again.
32:25Right up the middle.
32:26Nowhere to step into.
32:27Remember that right AC joint of his right shoulder is the one that's been bothering him now for a couple of weeks.
32:34He's wearing an extra pad in there, right?
32:36Wearing like a donut pad, which is what you do over the top of that collarbone,
32:39just to try and protect it as much as you can.
32:42Flacco on third down today.
32:43Three of three on third down.
32:45It's third and eight right now.
32:47They need the 34.
32:48Hit once.
32:49Got away.
32:50Here comes Watt.
32:51There goes the ball.
32:52It's incomplete.
32:54Wow.
32:54They're going to get Watt, though.
32:55They're going to get Watt with a penalty.
32:57They threw it in there late.
32:59And he's not happy about it.
33:04He was able to avoid the sack with the first two guys, but then Watt cleans it up at the end.
33:11Here's the call.
33:13Personal foul.
33:14Rough for the passer.
33:16Defense number 90.
33:1815-yard penalty.
33:19Automatic first down.
33:20Well, it's because he drives him into the ground.
33:22You can tackle him.
33:24It's just the rules now are you can't drive him into the ground.
33:27That's the old day.
33:28In the old day, that was a perfect technique.
33:30But now, as you're going to the ground, you've got to put your arms out and try and absorb some of that weight.
33:36You can't land with all your weight on top of the quarterback.
33:39Gene Steratore just radioed in and said he does not agree with the call.
33:43So, that means he's 0 for 2 with the calls in this game so far.
33:50It's first and 10.
33:51The penalties on the Steelers early on.
33:56The running back is Taj Brooks.
33:58He's out of Texas Tech.
34:00A record setter.
34:02First and 10.
34:03Brooks the call.
34:04Pirine is injured.
34:05Tackle made by Derek Harmon.
34:07Jumps out there and Genie gets to the 45 with a gain of 5.
34:11Let's talk about what you just saw a moment ago on Watt.
34:15Yeah, Kevin, what I was looking at is when you're watching T.J. Watt make that tackle on Joe Flacco.
34:20Flacco's kind of contorted sideways.
34:22So, the fall is not a normal fall.
34:24And to me, it doesn't look like his entire body weight falls on Joe Flacco.
34:29You see it from that other angle.
34:30You can see part of T.J. Watt landing to the side of Flacco.
34:34That's why I didn't feel like that was a traditional body weight foul.
34:38Gene, we thank you.
34:39Second and 5.
34:40Chase Brown back in.
34:42With a whistle.
34:43And it's against Cincinnati.
34:45False start.
34:46False start.
34:47Off at their 63.
34:495-year-old penalty.
34:50The second half.
34:51That's on the rookie in the third round pick out of Georgia.
34:54Dylan Fairchild.
34:59He landed on his left shoulder.
35:01They landed on the left with a hit by Watt.
35:03That's going to continue to be an issue.
35:05Yep.
35:05Well, and you've got to remember, that's where Watt landed.
35:07Was on top of the right.
35:08Yes.
35:08So, I mean, even though it didn't get driven into the ground,
35:11you still have the body weight of T.J. Watt landing on that injured right shoulder.
35:16Well, they're coming off a bye, but he didn't start practice throwing until Thursday.
35:19Until Thursday.
35:20Yeah.
35:20And he just wanted to try just to get a feeling of it.
35:25And he said it felt pretty good.
35:26Chase Brown, second and 10.
35:28He finds a sliver, then is grabbed on the play by Peyton Wilson.
35:32He's the leading tackler for this number 28 Pittsburgh defense.
35:37First trip to New York in Adam Schein.
35:40Kevin Treks with Jordan Love in the locker room with the left shoulder.
35:44It's Malik Willis to Christian Watson for an unlikely pairing of a score.
35:49Extra points.
35:50No good.
35:51Seven-six giants back to you.
35:52So, the Packer kicker is injured.
35:56Malik Willis was acquired in a trade before last season.
35:58And when Love was injured with the thumb, he came in and won a couple games.
36:03And that trade with the Tennessee Titans.
36:05It's third down and six.
36:08A chip right there by Chase Brown going deep.
36:11And it is knocked away.
36:12What a play by Pierre.
36:14Replacing Slay.
36:16Comes up with a terrific defensive play.
36:19It's fourth and six.
36:20And here comes the Cincy punting unit.
36:22Pierre times this out perfectly.
36:25He's able to get up and get that left hand in there and knock it away.
36:28There's no safety help back there.
36:31I know Bengals fans are going to say you can see the right hand wrapped around the waist,
36:35which prevents Chase from going for it.
36:36But doesn't appear to be enough to affect that.
36:42Here comes the Bengals.
36:43Maybe the best putter in the league is Ryan Rico.
36:47And he's punting here to Calvin Austin.
36:49And into the end zone.
36:54Rico with the touchback.
36:55Only the eighth touchback on 39 punts this season.
36:59A lot of win to deal with.
37:01Steelers by one.
37:02Here comes Aaron Rodgers.
37:03Mid-30s with the wind chill here.
37:10Landman is back starring Billy Bob Thornton and Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, and Sam Elliott.
37:17Don't miss Landman Season 2, streaming now only on Paramount+.
37:23Kevin Harlan, Trent Green, Melanie Collins staying warm on that sideline, we think.
37:29Wind is gusting at times over 35 miles an hour.
37:33Another possession.
37:34The third for the Steelers.
37:36Hayward in motion.
37:38Rodgers to the air.
37:39Warren in the backfield will get the call.
37:41Blocked by Hayward.
37:42Into the secondary.
37:44Tackle made by Miles Murphy.
37:47Out to about the 27.
37:48And a gain of 6.
37:49We've got two old quarterbacks here.
37:51They call this the Unkball, Mel.
37:53And I can see why.
37:55Yeah, these two have been in the league a long time, Kev.
37:58Joe has attended Aaron's charity event.
38:00Aaron was on the pregame broadcast the year Flacco won the Super Bowl with Baltimore in 2013.
38:05And Rodgers told us as he gets older, he finds himself pulling for the older guys in sports.
38:09Steph Curry, the three guys on the Penguins here.
38:11Crosby, Malkin, and Letang.
38:12He said it's incredible.
38:13And it's inspiring what they're doing.
38:14Oh, good stuff.
38:16At the 26.
38:17Second down, four.
38:19It's a pitch out.
38:20Jalen Warren.
38:22Broke one tackle.
38:23And this defense misses a lot of tackles.
38:26Finally brought down by the rookie, Barrett Carter.
38:28And Mel, you know, he was talking about his career.
38:30He said when he first got in Green Bay and draft, he said, if I could play five years, great.
38:35But then he thought, no, it's every year.
38:37It's a calendar turn.
38:38I can play more.
38:42He said, I could go maybe eight years.
38:45Then he got to eight, and I said, maybe I could go to 12 years.
38:51What?
38:53Third down and three.
38:5527-yard line.
38:58Rodgers, a touchdown pass.
39:00And Gainwell was in the backfield going deep and looking for Metcalf.
39:06That incomplete with the coverage by D.J. Turner, who's number one in the NFL and passes defended.
39:14Well, he had four down.
39:15And he had great coverage here.
39:16Watch, it's just going to be a corner route by Metcalf.
39:18He's the inside slot there.
39:21Turner's going to get to the outside, and I understand why they were going for that attack.
39:27When you see that coverage there, and he's not happy, thought he had one there, hitting it into the zone.
39:32Second consecutive punt by the Steelers, who will have Whitman out there now.
39:40And deep back is Charlie Jones.
39:42The wind again, grabbing that ball, bouncing at the 25, and picked up and touchdown right there by Roman Wilson.
39:51So it's the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals.
39:59The AFC North.
40:01Great rivalry on CBS.
40:03The NFL on CBS is sponsored by Papa John's.
40:12Better ingredients, better pizza.
40:15Papa John's.
40:16Capital One.
40:18What's in your wallet?
40:21And by LLB.
40:23Invited to the holidays since 1912.
40:26Windy day here in downtown Pittsburgh in the banks of the Allegheny at Grishire Stadium.
40:37Joe Burrow told him, or Joe Burrow, Joe, we'll talk about Joe Burrow in a second.
40:40Joe Flacco said last night that in his 18 years in the NFL, he's never had an AC joint sprain before in his shoulder.
40:48Well, it is.
40:48I've had him in both shoulders, non-throwing and throwing shoulder.
40:51And it's especially in your throwing shoulder, it's a difficult thing in terms of your range of motion and your strength.
40:57Flacco to the air.
40:59Blocked by Karras.
41:00Incomplete for Chase.
41:03And in the vicinity was Jalen Ramsey, who was playing just his third game at safety after a career playing outside.
41:11And when he joined the Steelers, he was the nickel.
41:13Well, and I think Ramsey's really lucky right here to get away with it.
41:16It almost appears that this is a little bit late.
41:19He comes up on the hit.
41:21The ball goes off of Chase's hand and then watch the hit.
41:26Oof.
41:28I thought a flag would come on that.
41:30It didn't come flying in, and I know Jamar was looking for one.
41:35The decorated Jalen Ramsey.
41:39The back is Chase Brown.
41:42And Flacco's second down and ten.
41:44Play clock at zero.
41:45Delay a game.
41:46It would appear.
41:47Delay a game.
41:49Officer 16.
41:50Five-yard penalty.
41:52Still second down.
41:57A lot of hits on Flacco so far.
41:59Well, this one lands on that right shoulder, the one that's injured.
42:02Here's the hit.
42:03It called roughing the passer.
42:04He lands, but that right, he lands on the left shoulder, but the right shoulder was up in the air when Watt landed on top of him.
42:10And you could see him kind of grimacing and checking that shoulder out.
42:14So, as this game moves forward, that's just something we'll have to keep an eye on.
42:18On the back.
42:19And now he goes wide, blocked by Mims, incomplete for Fant, with Ramsey in the vicinity, fronting him on that shallow cross, and it's third and 15.
42:32Mims, a little hobbled after that play.
42:39Well, it's Herbig that's going against Brown on the left side or the back side of Joe Flacco that's going to cause this to happen.
42:46We'll look at the coverage on Jamar Chase.
42:49They're trying to wall him off, but the reason that ball goes in the ground is Herbig's able to affect him and get a hand on Flacco and turn his body because that ball is just yanking to the ground.
43:00Flacco, 7 to 12.
43:03And gently to Fant, the tight end, shy of the first by a ton, and boy, was he leveled on the play by Wilson.
43:11Former first-round pick by the Broncos, Noah Fant, Wilson the hit, fourth and eight, punting unit out there for Cincy.
43:19Well, and that's how you have to do it, Kevin.
43:20When it's third and extra long like that, drop back, especially this part of the game, this early in the first half, you know you're just going to rally up and make a tackle, and they were firm with the tackle that time.
43:31Rico, who is the number one cross punter in the NFL, number eight in net, and deep back is Calvin Austin.
43:44And looks like he's going to return it on the backpedal at about the 12.
43:47Hang time of 4-5.
43:49He escapes one grasp and then is brought down on the play, hit there by Giles Harris.
43:58It was a 59-yard punt with 8.14 to go here in the first half.
44:03Rodgers a touchdown pass, Flacco a touchdown pass.
44:07One-point lead Pittsburgh on CBS.
44:09Sideline heaters were invented in Green Bay.
44:16You can always count on Sundays with the NFL on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
44:21Did you just drop some heater knowledge on us there?
44:24Yeah.
44:24Yeah, they were developed in Green Bay in the mid-50s.
44:28Oh, man.
44:29And now you see them all over these sides.
44:31Stay back.
44:32Because it is hot.
44:33I've been on a side where one of those big drape coats, those big coats have caught fire, right?
44:38You get too close to it.
44:39After the punt, on the 23, it's Jalen Warren.
44:44Nice play coming through like a torpedo.
44:46Dax Hill makes the stop and throws him for a loss of about a yard, second down and 11.
44:52When Rodgers was taking a look, Trent, at where he should go on his next stop in the NFL,
44:58Mike Tomlin clearly was on his radar.
45:01And Rodgers said about Tomlin, he knows guys' stories.
45:04He connects with them.
45:05He relates with them.
45:06He brings a freshness.
