00:14Atlanta has got some extra
00:15motivation to snap this four
00:16game losing streak against a
00:18team that dominated them in
00:19week three.
00:20But Michael Pennington Jr.
00:21told us that they know what to
00:22expect for him.
00:24It's about not over
00:24complicating things not getting
00:26bored with simple smart
00:27execution as the Panthers try to
00:29keep playoff hopes alive.
00:31Bryce Young's facing a team he's
00:32had the most success against in
00:34his career and since there's no
00:36carryover or change in mindset
00:38but you've got to believe there's
00:39some extra level of confidence
00:41lining up against this group in a
00:43place in a building that he's
00:45fared so well.

00:47I mean it's easy to say like
00:48forget about that first game
00:50either direction you've played in
00:53divisional game like you know
00:54it's still in there somewhere.
00:56There's no doubt it's in there
00:57but I think the other thing the
00:58takeaway from that is even though
00:59the score looked completely out
01:00of hand you know Atlanta out
01:02game Carolina in that matchup
01:04and then maybe the score wasn't
01:05quite indicative of how that
01:07game played out and how this
01:08matchup will play out today.
01:13Atlanta will get it first
01:15Carolina trying to announce
01:17itself still as a playoff
01:19contender at five and five
01:20mentioned a game and a half
01:21back at Tampa Bay for first in
01:24the NFC South and Ryan
01:26Fitzgerald Georgia native has it
01:28teed up to get ready to go and
01:30we'll see Michael Penix Jr.
01:32playoff contender the John Robinson
01:33and the offense for Atlanta first
01:43off we go week eleven in the NFL
01:46from Atlanta and it's Jamal Agnew
01:48on the return for the Falcons
01:49across the thirty yard line and
01:50Michael Penix Jr. and this
01:51offense we saw him put up twenty
01:52five in Berlin they weren't a
01:53efficient on third down what do
01:55you see on tape from Michael
01:56Penix Jr. that suggests some
01:57upturn coming.
01:58Well I think that's the hard
01:59thing is there has been the
02:00last four weeks I mean the
02:01reality is this offense has
02:02struggled a bit in particular
02:03on third down to stay on the
02:04field that didn't convert at
02:06all in Berlin and I think the
02:08biggest thing for Michael
02:09Penix is finding a way of
02:10getting into a rhythm early in
02:11games when he does so usually
02:13that translates to third down
02:14red zone touchdown so he's
02:16going to be able to get into

03:33teams are going to be pretty run
03:34heavy today that's why penalties
03:36on first down are going to be a
03:37real problem if they insert
03:39themselves into this game well
03:40that's been the formula for
03:41success look at the first five
03:42games you know Bajon Robinson goes
03:44over a hundred scrimmage yards
03:45each of those first five the
03:47offense was kind of flowing
03:48there for Atlanta that in the
03:49last four weeks held under that
03:51number and so look he's one of
03:53the most dangerous players you
03:54got to find a way of getting
03:55the football in a variety of
03:56ways and that's going to be the
03:57challenge they're often
03:58supporting her Zach Robinson
03:59today good news is Drake
04:01London is in the game he is
04:02starting you saw on the line
04:04ups there without the left
04:05guard Matthew Bergeron for the
04:07second week in a row.
04:08Penix off the motion from
04:13Sills he'll throw it down the
04:14middle and a juggle that ball
04:15is loose it's down on the
04:17ground and recovered
04:18eventually by Atlanta Mooney
04:20puts it on the deck so that
04:22was a catch and fumble and it
04:25will be third down and this has
04:27been one of the issues with

04:33catch though struggling with
04:35some drops and finding that
04:36connection.

04:40Carolina rushes for Penix wanted
04:42to load up now he dodges the
04:43rush he turns his eyes up field
04:46and throws to the sideline
04:47that's a tough grab and Mooney
04:50was at the sideline that is
04:53incomplete.

04:59Mooney stays alive can't get
05:01both feet in balls too far
05:02outside.
05:03that's Corey Thornton the rookie
05:06out of Louisville in the
05:07coverage.
05:08We'll see more of him today at
05:10the nickel spot for Shaw Smith

05:19So Carolina very quickly goes three
05:21and out certainly hurt by the
05:23penalty.
05:24Etienne at the 19 has the sideline
05:29and ends up to the 27.
05:33Good to see for Atlanta some
05:34better coverage work there it's an
05:36eleven yard return only they did
05:38struggle in Berlin with kick
05:40coverage and Bryce Young who's
05:42made a mini career out of facing
05:44the Falcons he's got three of his
05:46eleven wins as a quarterback
05:47against Atlanta Brady.
05:48This has been a stadium he's had
05:49a lot of success go back to his
05:51college days used to winning SEC
05:52championships here but last
05:54week you were inconsistent
05:56performance from Bryce Young
05:58you look at two weeks prior to
05:59that getting a big win versus the
06:01Green Bay Packers and that's
06:02where this team's at.
06:03But a 500 football team who's
06:05trying to figure out what their
06:06identity is.
06:08See about Rico Dowdle today was
06:11dinged up a little bit during
06:12the week but he is ready to go
06:14he's got the opening carry and a
06:16very violent runner and how many
06:18people told us this week the
06:19word violent about Rico Dowdle.
06:22He runs that sort of
06:24physicality that you're looking
06:25for but the third leading rush
06:27coming into the weekend in the
06:28NFL and really he took over
06:31after Chuba Hubbard got injured
06:32earlier and they tried to split
06:33carries between the two and
06:34you'll see Chuba Hubbard today
06:36but Dowdle just was the more
06:37productive runner.
06:38Flat out said we tried to share
06:39both and we thought Dowdle was
06:41the more productive back and
06:42gives us the best chance of
06:43winning.
06:44Mitchell Evans in the game as an
06:46extra tight end Tommy Tremble as
06:48well Bryce Young to throw he
06:50goes to the tight end Evans who
06:52is knocked down after a gain of
06:54about two it'll be third down
06:56coming up and the Atlanta
06:58defense which has been much
07:00better against the past this
07:01year the run defense has been
07:03something of a struggle.
07:04As you look at this third down
07:06situation when he's not off the
07:08table he's staying third and
07:09short back in two weeks ago the
07:13Panthers able to beat the Packers
07:15keeping them more than third and
07:17short last week not so much the
07:18case.
07:19Atlanta's been really good on third
07:21and three or fewer sixth best in
07:24the NFL this is third and three
07:26exactly and Bryce Young scanning
07:29and throwing down the middle to
07:31midfield it's Jalen Coker back and
07:34healthy gain of 15 and a first down.
07:37This is one of the strengths of
07:39Bryce Young working through his
07:41progression he starts on the
07:42opposite side of the field goes
07:43through number one number two and
07:44finds a way back to Coker open in
07:46the middle of the field.

08:31mirror images of one another they
08:32both want to run the football
08:33they've been able to have a lot of

08:35receivers in Drake London for
08:37Atlanta obviously Ted Aroa
08:38McMillan for Carolina that are
08:40their number one go to guys get a
08:42lot of targets a lot of attention
08:43so it's figuring out a way of
08:44working in these other pieces or
08:46disguising with the looks that you
08:47present the defense to thin
08:49secondary secondary for Atlanta
08:51Mike Hughes D Alford both in
08:54active today for the Falcons.
09:00Young a little pump and he'll try
09:02to lob it that came out weird.
09:05That was Khalid Kareem who came
09:07in to hit the arm and affect that
09:09pass it'll be third down and nine.

10:41You're going to love the play

10:45the defense one direction

10:49everyone drops Xavier Leggett
10:51who just sneaks behind the

11:24Carolina has such a tough schedule
11:31on the way this is one of the
11:34games that they look at if
11:35they're going to really make
11:37themselves a playoff contender
11:38you're saying must have.

11:41Definitely is for Atlanta.

11:51Dowdle hits that hole so hard all
11:53the way down to the 15 it'll be
11:55third down and Ford coming up.

12:01games left with Tampa Bay at the
12:03very end of the year the win
12:05percentage above 560 it's the
12:08toughest remaining schedule in the
12:09NFL.
12:10If you're looking at the number you
12:11need to probably make it into the
12:13playoffs even as a wild card team
12:15let's just think about the division
12:17you probably you're going to have
12:18to assure yourself of five more
12:19wins with that schedule the rest of
12:20the way.
12:22I'll say all starts here today.
12:24McMillan in the slot at the bottom of
12:30your screen part of that trips
12:31closest to the formation Bryce
12:33Young looking that direction.
12:34He's got McMillan inside the five
12:37and a first and goal for Carolina
12:39but that's his first target it's
12:42been a more multiple offense so
12:44far when they move him around a
12:46bit in this case they put him
12:47inside all the way in the slot to
12:49find a soft spot in the zone
12:50coverage to get the conversion.
12:53You see all the focus and
12:54attention for the Atlanta Falcons
12:55defense will be on McMillan
12:57especially in this portion of the
12:58field.
12:59He's going up against one of the
13:00best in the league to do an A.J.
13:01Terrell.
13:08Donald the tailback play action
13:10that way.
13:11And Young is wrangled and dropped
13:13he's sacked all the way back at
13:15the 13 yard line by the rookie
13:17out of Tennessee James Pierce Jr.
13:19He and Walker have been menacing
13:22together recently.
13:23They were just what the doctor
13:24ordered when the draft came
13:26around they needed some pass

14:35really get after.
14:36It's one of the reasons why
14:37the Falcons one of the best
14:38pass rush teams in the NFL.
14:42I know you get choked up by
14:43the pass rush.

14:50Slings it into traffic right
14:52at the goal line.
14:53And McMillan is in.

15:03And this is an area where
15:04Bryce Young excels almost like
15:06a point guard out there on
15:07the field.
15:08He just has this uncanny
15:09ability to kind of see the
15:10soft spots in zone coverage
15:13and watch McMillan turns
15:14around gets big.
15:16There's the power and
15:17strength to get in the end
15:18zone but it's the timing the
15:19accuracy and obviously again
15:20McMillan the connection
15:21they've got finding a way in
15:23the end zone.
15:27Carolina has the opening

15:37half of the quarter.
15:39And the extra point is good.
15:43A couple key spots in the

21:17on this offense that it's
21:18ability to push the ball

28:13execution is up and you're
28:14doing different things to help

29:19And you know one of the things
29:20you see often is B. John
29:21Robinson behind him in the
29:22shotgun.
29:23That's called pistol.
29:24And that's something that
29:25they've worked to a lot
29:26purely because the comfort of
29:27Michael Penix playing for
29:28me.
29:29About half the time they're in
29:30that pistol set as Penix
29:32unloads for London who is very
29:34close to the line to gain.
29:36And there's been some
29:37criticism sort of you know
29:38saying that hey that's more of
29:39a college style system or
29:40offense to put the running
29:41back that far back but they do
29:43feel like they want to feed to
29:44the confidence of Michael
29:45Penix what he feels comfortable
29:46doing.
29:47And they built their offense out
29:48of it.
29:49And it actually helps in some of
29:50the outside zone running
29:51getting the ball into B. John
29:52Robinson's hand soon.

44:46helps allow Robinson again to get
44:48to get to the second level and
44:50that's where he becomes special
44:51just 84 on the ground last week
44:53for it to John Robinson who again
44:55early in the year was mammoth for
44:56this offense teams have been
44:57loading the box more against him
44:58they're five to go in this first half
45:12right back there right up the zipper
45:13and he's got four to set up second
45:15down why change I mean if you go
45:20And he's got four to set up second down.

45:25I mean, if you go back to the struggles of the Falcons on third down,
45:28a lot of it's been, they've been third and long.
45:30And that really comes back to lack of success on first and second down.

46:59In that case, unfortunately, Chris Lindstrom ends up being the one called for.

47:06these are the sorts of things that add up.
47:07People want to know what's been their struggle during the four-game losing streak.
47:10But third down's been a big piece of it.
47:12There's been drops.
47:13There's been lack of protection.
47:15There's been poor play, lack of, you know, penics delivering.
47:19Penalties as well.
47:20But now you're in one of those third and long situations,
47:23and it completely changes the playbook as London was in motion.
47:26It'll go to Drake London, and with a soft opportunity in front of him,
47:31he ends up getting the first down to the 37.
47:36He took a big hit from Sheryliss and Roseboom,
47:39but, man, soft coverage from Carolina
47:41who plays as much zone as anybody in the league.
47:44We still have to respect Mooney,
47:47who's caught a couple of balls now in the deeper zone coverage,
47:50and London finds a soft spot.
47:52Man, his leg got bent up there.
47:56He's already dealing with some back issues this week.
