00:00Alright, let me break down what's happening with the Phoenix Suns this season.
00:04The vibe around the team is really positive, and a key player, Jordan Goodwin, just explained why.
00:09He was on the Arizona Sports Wolf and Luke show, and he stressed something crucial.
00:14The team's strong chemistry off the court is a huge reason they've won 8 of their first 13 games.
00:21Here's what Goodwin said,
00:22We're definitely clicking, and we definitely have a good chemistry.
00:26I think how well we treat each other off the court is making a really big difference on how we play on the court.
00:32He described the team as a good group, where everybody genuinely likes each other, and is excited to come to work.
00:38Now, let's look at Goodwin's own performance.
00:41In the 10 games he's played, he's been averaging 5.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2 assists per game, while shooting 38.9% from the field.
00:50He also talked about their defensive strategy.
00:52Goodwin said the Suns are focused on being aggressive on defense, which makes them a much tougher team to face, especially when their offensive players are also making their shots.
01:02He put it this way,
01:03I think our goal every game is to go out there and cause chaos.
01:07On the other side, we've got a lot of players that can make shots, so you kind of get the best of both worlds.
01:13So, where does this new culture come from?
01:15Goodwin credits the team's leadership.
01:17He says it starts with everyone, but he specifically highlighted two people, Devin Booker and Dylan Brooks.
01:24Goodwin called Booker the snake, which is a term of endearment and respect for him, saying, that's our guy.
01:30Then he said the leadership trickles down to Dylan Brooks, who he described as the team's passionate leader, who gets everybody going with his energy on the court.
01:40Goodwin also gave a lot of credit to the coach, Jordan Ott.
01:43What does he like about him, his fairness, Goodwin explained, he holds everybody accountable, he treats Book the same way he treats me, he's not afraid to call people out, and he also listens to us.
01:55He pointed out that Coach Ott is open to player feedback, which is a standout quality for a head coach, and this cultural shift isn't going unnoticed.
02:03The team's owner, Matt Ishbia, also spoke up on Arizona Sports Burns and Gambo.
02:09He said the team's effort and mentality have drastically changed.
02:12From last season, Ishbia stated, we've set our identity, vision, and the culture, and the guys are executing.
02:19He praised Dylan Brooks for bringing that new mentality, and Booker for being great.
02:23But then he gave a specific shout-out to Jordan Goodwin, using a powerful example.
02:27He said that even when the team is up by 45 points, you'll see a guy like Goodwin, diving on the floor for a loose ball, and making unselfish plays.
02:35Like throwing the ball to Isaiah Livers for a dunk, the owner's final point was this.
02:40We're diving, we're competing, and hustling.
02:42We are not going to win every game, but we are out there playing hard.
02:46We are fun to watch, and that's what the Valley deserves.
02:49Do you believe this level of team chemistry is the key to winning a championship?
