00:00The Detroit Tigers recently unveiled new alternate jerseys, but the design process started long
00:06before fans ever saw them. It was nearly two years of research, surveys and testing, and one of the
00:11most important groups they asked, the players themselves. After all, they are the ones wearing
00:16them on the field every single day. Catcher Jake Rogers explained that they knew a new uniform was
00:21coming for a while, they just didn't know if it would be one jersey or two, the team showed them
00:26different examples. And, there was a lot of thought that went into it. The players picked
00:30their options and took a close look. For some, the testing focused on performance. Outfielder
00:36Riley Green was part of the group that tried them on early to give feedback. He admitted
00:41he doesn't really care what he wears as long as it's comfortable. The main thing for him
00:45is making sure it doesn't interfere with his swing. He thinks they look pretty cool though.
00:50For other players, the look of the jersey matters just as much as how it fits.
00:56Wensil Perez, for example, loves incorporating bright colors into his style. Last year, he wore
01:02different colored cleats, and this season, he has a pair of bright orange ones on the way.
01:07His new outfield glove is orange too. Perez said the team asked for feedback on what kind of jersey
01:12they'd want and what it should mean to the city. He thinks the Tigers did a pretty good job, saying,
01:17they look awesome and will fit well. Kerry Carpenter put himself in the middle. He said he's fine with
01:22whatever they give him, but he definitely likes cool stuff. A recurring theme in the feedback was
01:27tradition. Several players emphasize the importance of keeping the classic Tigers identity. Whether it's
01:33the old English D on the home orange alternates or the script Detroit on the road navy version,
01:39they wanted to honor the original. Rogers considers himself an old school guy. He loves the iconic originals,
01:45but he acknowledges that this era is all about different colors, from batting gloves to jerseys.
01:50He thinks the new ones are awesome. He likes the orange and the blue, even though he's still an
01:55advocate for the original look. When it comes to favorite colors, the team is split. Perez is a fan
02:01of the orange. Green, however, is more of a navy guy, though he admits the orange will look good on
02:05the field. Earlier in January, during the Tigers offseason hitting Summit in Detroit,
02:10some players got a special preview. Kerry Carpenter and Spencer Torkelson ended up serving as fashion
02:16models for the New Jerseys. During a photo shoot at the Fox Theater, it took about two hours.
02:20Torkelson kept it simple, describing the look as clean and saying the team did it right. So,
02:25with two years of planning, player input on everything from comfort to city pride,
02:29and a photo shoot at a historic theater, the jerseys are finally here. The big question for all of you
02:35is,
02:36which one are you adding to your collection? The orange or the navy?
