00:00:00the controversial finish coming up next here at the home of the running rebels our main event the
00:00:04wbc heavyweight championship lennox lewis versus tony tucker and as we go into the dressing room
00:00:11of the champion britain's lennox lewis closing in on the first defense of his wbc heavyweight
00:00:16crown against american tony tucker and for more on our featured event let's go back up to jim hill
00:00:22with the preliminaries concluded the crowd here at the thomas and mag center is settling into
00:00:27their seats for our main event coming up we have two heavyweights ready to stake their respected
00:00:32claims on the world championship lennox lewis the defending wbc title holder is poised to show the
00:00:38world he is the division's true champion tony tucker has waited patiently for the chance to
00:00:43shed the title of contender and win the crown of a champion our main event the wbc heavyweight
00:00:49championship of the world is next let's go to see ferdy and bobby down at ringside gentlemen
00:00:53all right thank you again jim since lennox lewis gained the wbc belt by decree is lewis to be
00:01:00considered a real champion ferdy not unless he gets through tonight no not unless he gets through in
00:01:04good fashion tonight he's been given the title so he's got to impress tonight and he's got to win
00:01:09tonight he may not win so that's the very first thing he must impress and vindicate the people who
00:01:15gave him that title why in your estimation was lewis made such a big favorite by the odds makers
00:01:19because he's had a perfect career everything he's done he's done right he trained in canada he won
00:01:24the gold by knocking knocking out riddick bow and then he had his spectacular career as a pro
00:01:29knocking out again razor rudick and has made no mistakes as opposed to his opponent tony tucker who's
00:01:36been inconsistent both in life and in his boxing career and now has to summon it all up for one night
00:01:42hope that it all ties up in one neat package brings all his talent and his size and his boxing skill
00:01:48and can overcome a young lennox lewis that's a lot to ask of a man and and that's why lennox
00:01:53lewis is a favorite in this now tony tucker has been involved in two title fights beating james
00:01:57buster douglas for the ibf championship then losing it to mike tyson just two months later but bobby does
00:02:02this experience in title work to his advantage well something about the title fights there are certain
00:02:07particulars that go along with pressure the moment the adrenaline all the crowds and that's something at
00:02:11least tony tucker's already dealt with we know how he'll react but the champion who's never been in a
00:02:15championship fight we're not sure how he'll react but lennox lewis is a disciplined and a very focused
00:02:20individual that's beaming with confidence i don't think it'll be a factor tonight what about tucker's
00:02:24more recent bouts did they prepare him properly for lewis well what his recent bouts have done is kept
00:02:29him sharp kept him in shape kept him active and they prepared him to get ready to come here but they
00:02:34haven't prepared him specifically for the event tonight because lennox lewis brings so much more talent
00:02:39than everybody he's fought in the past few years that it just couldn't matter it couldn't matter
00:02:43so here at the thomas and mac center in las vegas nevada the time for our main event is rapidly
00:02:48approaching in a moment lewis and tucker will leave their dressing rooms and write another chapter
00:02:53in heavyweight boxing history
00:02:55what's going to surprise tony tucker is the fact that lennox lewis has an arsenal filled with different
00:03:16that he can throw at any given moment i think the main thing is the fact that my speed will surprise him
00:03:23the most i know that i have more knockoffs than he has fights i'm a better better fighter and more
00:03:29experienced fighter lewis is a great fighter i can't take that from me but i think that i'm a better
00:03:33fighter than lewis it's good that tony tucker comes into the fight thinking that you know this is
00:03:38his destiny it's good to come into the fight that way because uh after the first round he's going to
00:03:44change his mind i think that when we fight i'll be right on top he's right there for him right there
00:03:51in front of me with less movement i'm trained i'm focused i'm ready to go i think tony tucker is going
00:04:00to be very surprised when he comes in against lennox lewis he talks about experience well yeah he does have a
00:04:08lot of experience but i've got a new flavor it's over 100 years since there's been a british champion
00:04:13and i intend to keep this belt for a very long time
00:04:17i feel fighting for this title yes a second time it's a blessing it's a blessing from god that i have
00:04:26a chance to fight for a title a chance at my goal a lifelong goal and i'm a winner
00:04:33and we are set now for the obligatory ring walk and the music of tony tucker
00:04:51and we've been waiting for it
00:04:54london brent is fine

00:06:20Tony TNT Tuck in question of his second world title says this fight is not for the money.
00:06:27I want the recognition, the presence, the power.
00:06:30I want the title so bad I can taste it.
00:06:33Two years ago, his life spinning out of control.
00:06:36He sought help for the drug problem, found religion, settled down, got married.
00:06:40The world championship would certainly be the icing.
00:06:46And now to the champion, undefeated Lennox Lewis,
00:06:49the first English-born heavyweight champ in nearly a century,
00:06:52but with the exception of Ken Norton,
00:06:53Lewis, the only heavyweight in the history of the WBC
00:06:56to be awarded the title without beating and beating the previous champion.
00:07:00Does the convincing win over Razor Ruddick this past October
00:07:03prove that Lewis will dominate the division for years,
00:07:07or will he disappear like so many other European heavyweights?
00:07:10We may have a better grasp in the minutes ahead.
00:07:19Yes, sir.
00:07:19Oh, there's not much the case.
00:07:31Oh, there's no section left left.
00:07:32Do you want your partner now?
00:07:37Come on, there.
00:07:38Come on.
00:07:39Come on, there.
00:07:41Come on.
00:07:41Come on.
00:07:42Come on.
00:07:42Come on.
00:07:43We're the scored.
00:07:45Come on.
00:07:46Come on.
00:08:46Lennox Lewis looking almost preoccupied.
00:08:49He makes his way into the ring.
00:08:50Four and a half to one favorite.
00:08:52Born in London's East End of Jamaican parents.
00:08:54Moved to Canada at age 12.
00:08:56Now lives in London.
00:08:57Looking to prove to the world he is not just a paper champion since he never actually earned the title in the ring.
00:09:03Will Lewis jump on Tucker from Bell One as he did against Razor Ruddock?
00:09:07Will no short.
00:09:09To the numerical breakdown, the tail of the tape.
00:09:11Lewis at 27.
00:09:12Seven years younger than Tucker.
00:09:14After that, very balanced.
00:09:15The slight half-inch height advantage to Tucker.
00:09:18Both tipped the scales at 235.
00:09:19Bit surprising for Lewis.
00:09:21Advertised to be closer to 220.
00:09:23He felt he'd come in about 238.
00:09:25And the reach was identical.
00:09:26And the WBC rules.
00:09:29Ten point must system.
00:09:31Three judges scoring the fight.
00:09:32No standing eight count.
00:09:33No three knockdown rule.
00:09:34Only the referee can stop the fight.
00:09:36A fighter cannot be saved by the bell except in the last round.

00:10:56All right, fans, here we go with the main event of the evening as we present the star-spangled glory.
00:11:06Ladies and gentlemen, it's showtime!
00:11:12The WBC Heavyweight Championship of the World scheduled for 12 rounds of boxing.
00:11:18Introducing the referee in charge of this bout, Joe Cortez.
00:11:23Introducing to you first, ladies and gentlemen, the challenger on my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
00:11:31He is wearing red, white, and blue trunks, and fighting out of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
00:11:37He weighed in at 235 pounds, or 16 stone 11 pounds.
00:11:44His record, 48 wins, only one loss.
00:11:48One no contest with 39 big wins coming by way of knockout.
00:11:53Presenting the former IBF Heavyweight Champion of the World, and the current number one contender by the WBC, known to the boxing world as the Big Oaks Thunder, the new Tony TNT Tucker!
00:12:11And his hard-hitting, defending champion opponent on my left, fighting out of the red corner.
00:12:24He is wearing red trunks with black trim, and hailing from London, England.
00:12:31He weighed in the same weight of 235 pounds, 16 stone 11 pounds.
00:12:39His unblemished record includes 22 wins, no losses, 19 wins coming by way of knockout.
00:12:47He is the 1988 Olympic Super Heavyweight Gold Medalist, and the first British Heavyweight World Champion of this century.
00:12:56Please welcome, the defending WBC Heavyweight Champion of the World, Lennox Lewis!
00:13:11Once again, here's your referee in charge, Joe Cortez.
00:13:15Well taken, okay? Watch your block. Watch your block.
00:13:20All right.
00:13:23All right, Tony. Lennox.
00:13:26All right, gentlemen. We went over the rules in a dressing room.
00:13:34I'm here to enforce those rules on the state of Nevada in conjunction with the WBC.
00:13:39Give me a good, clean fight. Protect yourselves at all times. Shake hands.
00:13:43Good luck for you.
00:13:43Want to make note of the fact right here at the start, two judges from great great racing some eyebrows, yet Tony Tucker did not complain.
00:14:01Harry Gibbs and Mickey Vann from England. Jerry Roth out of Las Vegas.
00:14:05And here we go. Round one scheduled for 12 for the WBC Heavyweight Championship.
00:14:10Tony Tucker, the challenger in the white trucks.
00:14:12Lennox Lewis, the champion in the red with the white and black trim.
00:14:16First thing he's struck with is the similarity of build and size. Looks like Tony's a little bit bigger, but they're both very big men.
00:14:24Tony, I think, is a little bigger up top. I think Lennox up to the top of his thighs is a little bit, a little bigger in the calf.
00:14:29And again, as we thought before, the chess match ensues.
00:14:32Lennox Lewis told us he intends to be patient, that he'll move in if the opportunity presents itself.
00:14:41He did not indicate to us that he'll jump on Tucker from the start as he did against Ruddock, but don't rule it out.
00:14:46And there he goes with the right hand, but it missed, and a countering shot by Tony Tucker.
00:14:51Well, Tucker is not taking the attack to Lennox, that's for sure.
00:14:54He thought at the beginning that he would try to push him back, and he has not even tried it now.
00:14:59He's just watching Lennox and seeing what he's got.
00:15:03Tony's doing the traditional, take your time, stay calm, move in easy.
00:15:07And Lennox Lewis wants to get this fight started.
00:15:10Yeah, but Tony's problem is he's taking it too easy all his life.
00:15:13He's got to get a little salt and pepper in his life.
00:15:15If he's going to be calm and quiet, he ain't going to win this fight.
00:15:18And perhaps the most interesting revelation in our conversation with Tucker yesterday,
00:15:22when asked, what will you do if you have Lewis in trouble?
00:15:24He replied, stay patient.
00:15:28That's been his trademark problem.
00:15:30He stays too patient, he doesn't take advantage.
00:15:32He's going to finish it at the show like he should.
00:15:35But here, it's for the heavyweight title, and I think it'd be different if he gets in trouble.
00:15:39Lennox, in the meantime, is smiling, and looks like he's totally enjoying this, in control of everything.
00:15:45Well, certainly during the interview, I've never seen Tony Tucker more animated, more excited, more verbal.
00:15:50I mean, normally he's very calm, very, very, very laxing.
00:15:53Just sits back and just takes it easy.
00:15:55You almost have to pull questions, pull the answers out of him from the questions.
00:15:57He was full of words and full of things to say.
00:16:00Well, Bobby, this is the final roundup.
00:16:04Tony Tucker.
00:16:05Trying to press the attack.
00:16:10We've got two huge and good athletes fighting for the heavyweight championship.
00:16:18Once again, landing two good shots to Tony Tucker.
00:16:21Instead of falling in and trying to pummel him in the corner, let him get out.
00:16:23So, you know, again, that lack of fire.
00:16:26Just a little cautious.
00:16:28And after all, this is the last roundup, Bobby.
00:16:30If he finishes, if he doesn't win here, he's not going anywhere.
00:16:33Lennox can come back even if he loses and have a big, long career.
00:16:36So, this guy's got to let it all out here, Bobby.
00:16:38He's got to do more than this.
00:16:40Well, yeah, Lennox is only 27.
00:16:41Tony's 34.
00:16:42So, this could be the last round.
00:16:44Yeah, I mean, you might as well let it all hang out.
00:16:46You've got talent.
00:16:47You've got boxing ability.
00:16:48You're big.
00:16:49And this is your chance.
00:16:50You might as well take advantage of it.
00:16:51So, let's see if Tony does.
00:16:52Final seconds of the opening round.
00:17:00More of a feeling out process than anything.
00:17:04And that is it.
00:17:06Let's listen to the corners.
00:17:07Very indecisive first round.
00:17:09If anything, Tucker landed a couple of good shots and then falling.
00:17:12Let's listen to the corners.
00:17:13You've got to have a double jab now or a single jab.
00:17:15And when you throw the jab, step in with the right hand.
00:17:18All right?
00:17:18Then show him something different with the left hook.
00:17:21Now, let's do it right now.
00:17:22But you've got to be.
00:17:23You're going to dictate this shit to him with your left hand.
00:17:25What?
00:17:26What's that?
00:17:27Huh?
00:17:27What's that?
00:17:30Even.
00:17:30Look like even.
00:17:31You don't want to give it away.
00:17:32Look like it might have been even.
00:17:33Step it up a little more.
00:17:34Pick your face up a little more with your left hand.
00:17:35I'm going to step it.
00:17:36Pick it up a little more.
00:17:37Mouthpiece?
00:17:38Mouthpiece.
00:17:38Pick that.
00:17:39Hey.
00:17:40Make it.
00:17:40Watch in the right hand, Tony.
00:17:41Okay.
00:17:41Keep putting that right hand to the body like you're doing.
00:17:43Put the left hook behind you.
00:17:45Okay?
00:17:46All right, Tony.
00:17:46You're on a good round, son.
00:17:48Okay?
00:17:48All right.
00:17:49You're going to try to come out for me, but you guys, you got it in control.
00:17:53Okay, baby?
00:17:53Okay.
00:17:55Right off the bat, you see them between the two corners.
00:17:58One says it was an even round.
00:17:59You know he lost it if they thought it was even.
00:18:01And the other one said a great round for us.
00:18:03So Tony figures he's got one in the kip, and so he has as far as I'm concerned.
00:18:07But it wasn't much to divide the two men.
00:18:09Round two.
00:18:10Tucker said, if it goes the distance, I'll win decisively.
00:18:14But Lennox Lewis has other ideas.
00:18:20Well, I'll tell you, the round could have been an even round.
00:18:22Lennox came out using his jab, throwing a couple of right hands, pressed the attack,
00:18:26and then Tony turned tables a little bit, hit him with a couple of right hands,
00:18:29and they basically then leveled off and measured each other with no real action.
00:18:34Lewis predicted he'd knock out Tucker.
00:18:36Remember, also, we have two British judges here back there, Bobby.
00:18:41And that changes your viewpoint a little bit.
00:18:49Telling us he felt Tucker would come out weary of him,
00:18:52realizing he's a fast fighter, whereas Tucker is more methodical.
00:18:57Both men fainting, neither one going for the faint,
00:18:59but Lennox trying a little bit more exaggerated faint with his leg.
00:19:02Nothing else.
00:19:03Right now, Tony seems to be a little stronger, a little more forceful,
00:19:07and Lennox is a little tentative.
00:19:09We talked about being in the big show.
00:19:10Is the pressure getting to him?
00:19:12We're going to find out as this fight unravels.
00:19:14And how he handles the distance as he comes.
00:19:16You pointed out before the show.
00:19:18If he gets hit, how does he react?
00:19:20What happens when he starts to go in at 6, 7, and 8?
00:19:23So, interesting fight shaping up here.
00:19:25Right now, nothing much has happened again.
00:19:27Second round, and it's still two guys giving each other too much respect.
00:19:31Round two, halfway gone.
00:19:36Tony Tucker, out of Grand Rapids, Michigan, 48-1, one no contest with 39 knockouts.
00:19:44The only loss, 12-round decision to Mike Tyson at 87, losing the IBS heavyweight title.
00:19:50Now you hear some boobards here at the Thomas & Mack Center.
00:19:54They want more action.
00:19:54Tony Tucker's used to that because he fights some god-awfully dull fights,
00:19:59and he's got to pick this up if he's going to win a title or take it from Lennox Lewis.
00:20:03On the other hand, Lennox is fighting a very, very cautious, almost boring fight.
00:20:08I think one of those right hands in the first round in his corner kind of got his attention a little bit.
00:20:12He's being a little more careful than he was when he started the first round.
00:20:17Well, the start of this fight, certainly a vast difference from the Razorotic fight back in October
00:20:24when Lewis finished him off early, his second.
00:20:26Oh, on the break, Lennox Lewis with a solid right.
00:20:35And he came up underneath something that's very smart than normally a player with more experience would think of.
00:20:42Coming up to 20 seconds remaining in the second.
00:20:45Well, he certainly caught Tony's attention with that one.
00:20:49That was the only good solid punch of that round.
00:20:52The only impressive one, and he hit it on just almost on the break.
00:20:57Tucker trying to line up the right with the left jab as we head for the bell.
00:21:04Time!
00:21:04And that is it for round two.
00:21:10Right now, let's go over to Montel Williams.
00:21:12You know, I know this sounds a little crazy to come out of a fight.
00:21:15Tomorrow is Mother's Day, and here at the fight is Lennox Lewis' mother and also Tony Tucker's wife,
00:21:21who is now five months pregnant.
00:21:23Hopefully, maybe when the fight's over, one of their men are the victors.
00:21:26We'll get to talk to them a little bit later.
00:21:27We'll try.
00:21:28I'll go back to you, Steve.
00:21:29All right, and there is Lennox Lewis' mom, Montel Violet.
00:21:32Tony Tucker's wife, Kim, due in October.
00:21:35They already know it'll be a male.
00:21:37Tony told us, I would not push him to be a fighter.
00:21:40It takes too much from your life.
00:21:42But he said he wanted him to be a manager, and a promoter, he could.
00:21:45I don't care, but come back with that hook.
00:21:46Got it?
00:21:47Keep your hands a little bit higher.
00:21:48You've gotten a little too low on me, baby.
00:21:50All right?
00:21:52Yours.
00:21:53But put that pressure on his ass.
00:21:55Back him up.
00:21:55All right, second.
00:21:56Second.
00:21:56He was asking him.
00:21:58Watch his back.
00:21:58Let's go.
00:22:00Come on.
00:22:00Let's go.
00:22:01All right, Pepe Cordero, confident that he won that round because of that one good shot.
00:22:05I think he did because nothing was happening until then.
00:22:07Correa telling Lennox Lewis to knock him out.
00:22:12You're faster than him.
00:22:13Correa who guided the career of Sugar Ray Leonard for about a year.
00:22:17Something else he told us was very important.
00:22:19Back him up.
00:22:20Keep him going backwards.
00:22:21Don't let his weight come into you.
00:22:23Lennox in the attack for the first time.
00:22:25Oh, wait a minute.
00:22:27Get a little carried away here.
00:22:28Get involved, Jose.
00:22:29That was nothing for that.
00:22:31There was no reason for that.
00:22:32Joe Cortez, who refereed the Lewis Ruddock fight, having some words for Lennox.
00:22:38Well, Lennox has come to the fight.
00:22:40He woke up in the third round, and they've told him, all right, go out and knock the guy
00:22:43out.
00:22:44And he's put on the first concentrated attack we've seen of this fight.
00:22:49Tony's still maintaining that solid, quiet, classic behavior of his.
00:22:53He just doesn't get mad, and he doesn't come up with it.
00:22:57Lennox intent on landing that right hand.
00:22:59You can see it.
00:22:59You can see him measuring with it.
00:23:00He's almost telegraphed me a little bit, and Tony, he's watching him.
00:23:03He's keen on it.
00:23:05Tony is just planted on the canvas.
00:23:07He is fighting from the waist up.
00:23:10His legs are just planted.
00:23:11They're like two cement pilings.
00:23:14Tony Tucker, who did not look overly impressive his last few fights leading up to this Lennox
00:23:20Lewis bout, not showing the fire and desire so necessary.
00:23:24Couldn't finish people off when he had them in trouble.
00:23:27Lennox Lewis appears to be looking for that one opening, that one moment, to end it all.
00:23:34But even while he's looking, he's throwing punches, he's working, he's trying to make an opening.
00:23:38And Tony's not pushing it enough.
00:23:39He's not forcing any openings.
00:23:40He's not trying to make mistakes.
00:23:42And he's not throwing enough punches.
00:23:43It's hard to turn into an aggressive fighter when you've never been an aggressive fighter.
00:23:50And that, of course, is the wrap here.
00:23:53How can he all of a sudden turn himself around and be something he's not?
00:23:56He's got to wait for rounds to go by and then hope to be wearing out and frustrate Lennox Lewis.
00:24:01He may not be there in the last rounds to find out about that hour.
00:24:04He says to Joe Cortez, I'm all right.
00:24:33Two times, with under 30 seconds remaining in round three.
00:24:37Well, that's that overhand right that got Razor Ruddock in such trouble.
00:24:41And another one landed clean in the temple.
00:24:44Lewis trying to end it here in the third.
00:24:46Oh, there he goes, there he goes, there he goes.
00:24:48He'll put these up.
00:24:49Let's go.
00:24:50Well, he's got hardly any time.
00:24:54He should make it to the corner.
00:24:56He doesn't look particularly hurt, Bobby.
00:24:58Well, what I was just going to say was they're both 6'5", and they can nullify each other's power a little bit by leading.
00:25:03But Tony's not leaning out of the way.
00:25:06And Lewis ended the round with a solid right hand.
00:25:09A zinging right hand, which put him in a little bit of trouble.
00:25:11That right hand, which did Razor Ruddock again, is apparently a lethal weapon for Lennox Lewis.
00:25:16Twice he's landed it.
00:25:17Twice he's had bad effect on Tony Tucker.
00:25:19Let's listen to him.
00:25:20Standing straight in front of this guy.
00:25:22It ain't doing nothing, all right?
00:25:23Okay.
00:25:23The guy has a counterpunch with the right hand.
00:25:26You waiting to throw one shot.
00:25:28You waiting to counter with the right hand over the top.
00:25:31All right.
00:25:32Keep an eye on that devastating right hand of Lennox Lewis.
00:25:37He's waiting.
00:25:38There it is.
00:25:38And it's, boy, it is telegraphed all the way around.
00:25:41It looked like the Brooklyn Bridge.
00:25:42It just came all the way over.
00:25:43Whoop.
00:25:44And there it went.
00:25:44Here it goes.
00:25:45You can see him leaning.
00:25:45He cleans and takes it right over the top.
00:25:47And again, Tucker isn't leaning.
00:25:48He's rolling with the punches.
00:25:49He's just standing straight up.
00:25:51You'll see Lennox regularly lean back, but not here.
00:25:53Clean.
00:25:54It wasn't the London Bridge.
00:25:56No.
00:25:57I think it's in Arizona.
00:25:59At any rate, Tucker has now felt that zinging right.
00:26:03And let's see if it spurs him to some action.
00:26:05Because he is now behind in this fight.
00:26:08And he's felt the sting of that right hand.
00:26:11Let's see if it changes the way he fights.
00:26:12He better get a little bit more aggressive is what he better get.
00:26:15Round four.
00:26:16Tony Tucker going down for the first time in his career in the previous round.
00:26:21And Lennox again on the attack.
00:26:24You can see the fire that's been ignited in Lewis.
00:26:26He wants in.
00:26:27He wants to make a war out of this right now.
00:26:32Big right missing by Lewis.
00:26:35Now you see Tony leaning a lot.
00:26:36Leaning on the rope, swinging, turning his shoulder.
00:26:38Leaning, trying to nullify the power of that right hand.
00:26:41He's fighting mostly defensive fight instead of trying to fight some kind of offense.
00:26:44What he was trying to do is keep this avalanche off of him.
00:26:47But if he doesn't fight offensively, he'll get knocked down by that avalanche.
00:26:52Stacey McKinley, Tony Tucker's trainer, told us that over the last couple of weeks,
00:26:59Tony Tucker had some surprises up his sleeve.
00:27:02Some tricks for Lennox Lewis.
00:27:04Like quicker footwork.
00:27:06But so far, we haven't seen any evidence of that.
00:27:09What's he going to do?
00:27:10Kick him?
00:27:12Quicker footwork.
00:27:12He looks like he screwed into the camels there.
00:27:14He hasn't bounced once.
00:27:15He hasn't used his feet.
00:27:17He's been fighting from the top of the body up.
00:27:18I'm just reporting the facts.
00:27:26I think pre-fight talk is just that.
00:27:28Pre-fight talk.
00:27:30There's another decent right hand at Temple.
00:27:32But again, this time, Tony World with a little bit leaned out of the way.
00:27:35Trying to take some of the stick.
00:27:36But again, not offering the offense.
00:27:38That's what's going to win him the fight.
00:27:39If he's going to win it, he has to punch.
00:27:43Because he's not moving, he throws the punch.
00:27:45And Lennox goes back.
00:27:45He doesn't follow it in.
00:27:46He just stays there, hammered into the canvas.
00:27:48He's got to follow it in.
00:27:49He's got to take the fight to Lennox Lewis.
00:27:51He just, you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
00:27:54That's the way he fights.
00:27:55That's the way he's been fighting for 10 years.
00:27:57And it ain't going to change tonight.
00:28:05Interesting with men this big, we haven't seen much body work.
00:28:07No one really won a chance going down into the big man's body either way.
00:28:10So that's something we should take a look at as the rounds progress.
00:28:13Well, let me tell you, if Tony starts going to the body, he's got to remember that's the way Razor Rudd got knocked out.
00:28:20He went to the body and got zinged with the right hand right over the top.
00:28:22The British fans in the background beginning their soccer-like singing and chanting.
00:28:27About 2,000 grits have invaded Las Vegas at about $1,500 a piece.
00:28:33That's what it cost them, or 700 pounds.
00:28:35And they are making their presence felt.
00:28:39So is Tony Tucker here in this instance.
00:28:42And he's trying to drag Lewis down with him.
00:28:44That's a slip, obviously.
00:28:51No knockdown with 10 seconds remaining in round 4.
00:28:54A little encouragement, at least, for Tony Tucker.
00:28:56He tried to go in and do something at least something.
00:28:58And that is the end of round 4.
00:29:08Crowd of about 12,000 unofficially here.
00:29:11And that includes celebrities Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.
00:29:14Taking in the action here at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
00:29:18Steve Albert, the fight doctor, Ferdinand Pacheco, and WBA Cruiserweight Champion Bobby Chez.
00:29:28On hand here at the Thomas & Mack Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
00:29:32Watching the WBC Heavyweight Championship.
00:29:35Let's take a look at that slip, which was just that.
00:29:37It was a slip, and see?
00:29:38And then the referee comes in and tries to hold him up by an arm.
00:29:42Kind of sloppy, what about it?
00:29:43Well, they tried to slip a punch and then hold it to tie him up.
00:29:45Because he was starting to get a little ahead of steam, Tony Tucker was.
00:29:48And he just cut tangles.
00:29:49That's not my problem, bro.
00:29:50Okay.
00:29:50Wipe it off, come on.
00:29:51Okay, that's fine, that's fine.
00:29:53All right, second's out.
00:29:55All right, second's out.
00:29:56I want to wipe down the next round.
00:29:59I better start telling Tony.
00:30:00You better start pressing the gas.
00:30:02You're falling way behind here.
00:30:03Let's go.
00:30:04Tony Tucker was knocked down to the third round.
00:30:06We enter round 5, scheduled for 12.
00:30:11Lennox Lewis moving forward, stalking, pounding, and pushing.
00:30:23Joe Cortez says, enough of that.
00:30:28Lewis is all business.
00:30:29He wants to take this guy out of here.
00:30:30He's not loafing, he's not loafing around.
00:30:32He's just waiting for his opening.
00:30:34He's a very smart fighter, as we have seen all the way from the Olympics.
00:30:37He just waits for his time when it's open.
00:30:39Boy, he throws that thing in there, and that's usually a right hand.
00:30:41The only time either fighter is very effective is when they're going forward.
00:30:44Neither fighter fights where going backwards.
00:30:46And right now, the battle there is being won by Lennox Lewis.
00:30:49Yep.
00:30:49He's just coming forward.
00:30:51Lewis, an excellent all-around athlete.
00:30:54A fullback in football, a power forward in basketball.
00:30:57But just found that he excelled in boxing.
00:31:00Caused himself a Jekyll and Hyde personality.
00:31:02A very mild-mannered, elegant gentleman outside the ring.
00:31:07But you can see what he's like in the ring.
00:31:10Now Lennox stepping in with a good hook to begin with.
00:31:13Now two good jabs.
00:31:14He's stepping up the firepower because he's narrowing down the distance between the two.
00:31:19And Tony should be firing off something.
00:31:21Tony should be absolutely defending his territory in there, and he's not.
00:31:24Tony's offering up a token jab, but he needs to put more together.
00:31:31Two, three jabs coming with a right hand, a hook, do something to really get the momentum to swing in his favor.
00:31:35After the jab, follow him with a right hand, a hook, move in with him.
00:31:38You know, I mean, move in.
00:31:39Get the fight going.
00:31:41Instead of stand back and look at your work.
00:31:43I mean, step in.
00:31:49There was a decent attempt at an overhand right, the same punch that had taken previously.
00:31:52It has been mostly Lennox Lewis.
00:32:00Tony Tucker just standing there.
00:32:04About a minute remaining in the fifth.
00:32:10Not much offense from Tucker, the challenger.
00:32:15Low blow warning.
00:32:17There's a right hand by Lewis.
00:32:18That left just missing.
00:32:23There were bad intentions on that hook.
00:32:27And Tony tried to slip that nice little right hand there.
00:32:29It missed, and he looked at the corner saying, well, I gave it a shot, but I missed.
00:32:33I mean, Tony's got to get some kind of hurt on Lennox Lewis, or else it's just going to be a field day here.
00:32:37You get the feeling that it's just a matter of time, right off the top of Tucker's head there.
00:32:46As Lewis continues to measure Tucker out.
00:32:55There you go.
00:32:57There you go.
00:32:58Now he's going.
00:33:00Now Tony at least manifesting some aggression.
00:33:05The best action by Tucker at the bell of the fifth.
00:33:08Now listen, y'all be quiet.
00:33:12Listen to me.
00:33:13Turn that hook.
00:33:14Take a deep breath.
00:33:16Listen to me.
00:33:17Okay?
00:33:18You jumped up in a different rhythm, okay?
00:33:20The man can't handle rhythm.
00:33:22Keep moving your head like you're doing, and get busy with your hands.
00:33:26Okay, baby?
00:33:28See, every time you get a pressing guy going to shell, then back up.
00:33:31He can't fight back up, okay?
00:33:34Don't worry about the count of a little right hand right now, all right?
00:33:40All right, let's take a look at Lewis' action.
00:33:42The right hand on the top of the head, that was the punch that hit him before and dropped him, but it was too high.
00:33:47It was no good.
00:33:47Then, all of a sudden, Tucker comes alive, and he's just what we were saying.
00:33:51He's got to come two or three punches.
00:33:52Step forward.
00:33:53Step in there.
00:33:54Carry the action to him.
00:33:55And he did that, but just as the bell.
00:33:57And then the bell sounded.
00:33:57He got in a couple of little shots.
00:34:00Maybe it drew him to an even point in a round.
00:34:02I don't know.
00:34:03Very close.
00:34:04Very close, but he's still way behind because of the knockdown and because he's been giving these rounds away.
00:34:09Round six.
00:34:12Tony Tucker coming up with some offense in the closing seconds of round five for the time of the fight.
00:34:18This is for the WBC heavyweight title.
00:34:21In Tony's corner, they were telling him, you can't take the movement.
00:34:24When you slip and you're weaving your head, moving, he doesn't take to the angles very well.
00:34:31There's some footwork that we heard about.
00:34:32Yeah, he finally got off his planet on the ground there, and he started to move a little bit.
00:34:38If he could just carry that forward, and he was doing good at the very end there.
00:34:42He was, that was an acceptable combat at the end by Tony Tucker.
00:34:46Yeah, he picked up where he left off.
00:34:50So far not, but we're just seeing a lot of dancing around by Tupper.
00:34:54Lennox Lewis is missing a lot of right hands over the top.
00:34:57Tony's watching, they're coming over the top.
00:34:58He needs to straighten it out a little bit.
00:35:00Maybe rip it up or go to the body.
00:35:02Give him a new look.
00:35:03And the chance of Lewis from the crowd.
00:35:15Lewis looks like he's toying with Tucker.
00:35:18Has his hands down low.
00:35:19His hands are very low.
00:35:21I mean, he's almost just playing with him.
00:35:22I'm like saying, you can't get to me before I'm gone.
00:35:25See, as long as he does is step back a little bit and he's gone.
00:35:27And then he flicks out that jab that made contact to Tucker's forehead.
00:35:31Right now, Tony Tucker's not the more confident of the two.
00:35:34He's very pensive and he's not reacting extremely well when he could.
00:35:37He's got him backed up every now and then.
00:35:39He doesn't take charge and he really has opportunities.
00:35:45And now, some fancy footwork by Lewis.
00:35:52A little hip swivel movement too.
00:35:57A totally confident Lennox Lewis, the champion, having his way with Tony Tucker.
00:36:04But neither man impressing as a heavyweight champion.
00:36:07I mean, this is not an impressive performance by Lennox and certainly not by Tony Tucker.
00:36:11Right now, there's just two big heavyweights going through the motion here.
00:36:15We're not seeing a great heavyweight championship fight at all.
00:36:18I think right now, the speed that Lennox Lewis possesses is taking probably the edge for him regularly
00:36:23because he's always there first.
00:36:24He's able to out-lean Tony Tucker's slower jab.
00:36:27And, you know, he has a better attitude.
00:36:29He's coming forward more.
00:36:30He's pressing the fight.
00:36:30And that's definitely winning.
00:36:32Definitely is.
00:36:34He's winning.
00:36:35He doesn't see any reason to change.
00:36:36If the opportunity comes, he'll drop him.
00:36:38And if not, he'll go like this for 12 rounds or more.
00:36:40But right now, Lewis is the lesser of the two evils.
00:36:43Under 20 seconds remaining of the six.
00:36:45Why was that?
00:36:46And Cortez seems like he's so bored.
00:36:48He comes in every once in a while with an inappropriate warning.
00:36:50And he's like, what was that?
00:36:54Break out to me.
00:36:54Break out to me.
00:36:55Break out.
00:36:59Final second to the six.
00:37:02Five.
00:37:02Five.
00:37:03You're trying to crack this guy with your goddamn right hand in his now.
00:37:11Now, come on.
00:37:11Give me this damn double jab.
00:37:13And then you get the right hand down.
00:37:15Then you give me the whole flat right hand.
00:37:16Mix your punches up.
00:37:18Back this piece of shit up.
00:37:19Back him up, baby.
00:37:20You got me?
00:37:21You don't have to lay back on him.
00:37:23All right, now.
00:37:24I want you to lay the pilot around to stop busting that damn buddy.
00:37:29But do it off the jab.
00:37:30Do not do it off the jab.
00:37:31When you bust a buddy, get back out.
00:37:33You got to be easy first.
00:37:34You got to be easy first.
00:37:35You got to be easy first.
00:37:35You got to be easy first.
00:37:35You got to be easy first.
00:37:35You got to be easy first.
00:37:38Come on, do like I tell you.
00:37:40I always told you the right thing to do, right?
00:37:42All right, come on.
00:37:43Don't wait till you make the counter punch.
00:37:44This is not a counter punch and fight.
00:37:45Relax, relax.
00:37:46Suck it up and hold up.
00:37:48You're doing what?
00:37:49You're doing good.
00:37:50You just ain't busy enough.
00:37:51Put pressure on him.
00:37:52Okay?
00:37:52I believe that was the best assault of the night, but it was all verbal.
00:38:05And from the mouth of Pepe Correa in the Lennox Lewis corner, he said double jab, back him
00:38:11up, and the rest is not for a family show.
00:38:16No, what he said that was right is this is not a counter punching fight.
00:38:19This is not a counter punching fight.
00:38:21Don't keep waiting for him to counter.
00:38:23Take command.
00:38:24And that's exactly correct.
00:38:25Pepe Correa is 100% on the money.
00:38:28He's laying back here waiting for this guy to do something to counter punching.
00:38:31We'll be here all night.
00:38:31Well, let's see if Lewis heeds the advice and moves forward.
00:38:39And there's a good right hand by Lennox Lewis.
00:38:43I'll tell you what, that's a little bit difficult there because I think he was trying to throw
00:38:47a little hook and Tony just leaned in behind his head.
00:38:49Yeah, I don't think, as I say, Cortez getting a little bored and he gets involved too much
00:38:55in the fight.
00:38:56Lewis here looking to extend his glove and Tucker refusing to touch.
00:39:02Right hand, but a glancing blow by Lewis.
00:39:05Something Pepe Correa also said to Lewis to dig up that body, start to break that body up.
00:39:09And I'll tell you what, he's going to the head, but he's not coming to the body at all.
00:39:12Wicked right hook by Lewis is another one, but back comes Tucker with a combination.
00:39:19Finally, some fight in Tucker.
00:39:20Beautiful right uppercut by Lewis there.
00:39:22Tucker showing a good chin.
00:39:25Yes, Lewis answering back after the combination by Tucker.
00:39:32Halfway through the seventh round.
00:39:36A lot of people didn't think it would be going this long.
00:39:39Now, Tony putting his hands down, getting a little cocky.
00:39:44Or a little tired.
00:39:47Or a little crushed.
00:39:52They could all apply.
00:39:54All of the above.
00:40:02Well, the round started out good.
00:40:03We had some action.
00:40:04Tony Tucker getting hit with good shots coming right back.
00:40:07Lennox Lewis again coming in.
00:40:08But, again, it kind of moves off to a little bit of a chess game.
00:40:13Well, you're used to more of an assault when you saw the fights of Lennon, Ophiel, or Riddick Bowe.
00:40:18You see, I mean, these guys treat command.
00:40:20They're champions.
00:40:21Up to now, Lennox Lewis has done very well.
00:40:23Except in this fight, he hasn't.
00:40:24He's been looking at counterparts and making it a dull fight.
00:40:27Instead of an exciting fight where he makes himself the champion of the world, he's just going on a so-so performance here.
00:40:34And right now, the most exciting thing is the chanting from the Brits in the crowd.
00:40:39Tony Tucker, the challenger, a disappointing, for the most part, final seconds of round seven.
00:40:51More of a slip.
00:40:52I don't think that was something that anybody should be concerned about.
00:40:55No, nothing.
00:40:55That was a slip.
00:40:56As we head for the bell.
00:41:02Tony!
00:41:07Look, give me combinations, baby.
00:41:10Finish with your hook the next time.
00:41:12You've got the guy ready to go, but you've got to finish with your hook.
00:41:14Put pressure on him with combinations.
00:41:15Right?
00:41:16You are quicker than his.
00:41:17Don't you understand that you're quicker than his?
00:41:19You're much faster than his.
00:41:20Anything you want to do with the double jab, you can put the right hand here and the hook.
00:41:23You can do the double jab with the right hand here and the hook.
00:41:25And any time you let it jab, way downstairs, come across his overhand right.
00:41:29And I give you a lot, but I know you can take it.
00:41:31Give me that one.
00:41:33Next, pick your face up.
00:41:34What a little bit of action we saw there is Lewis trying to go to work.
00:41:39And there's a nice little right hand that bopped with not enough power to get him.
00:41:43But, you know, later in the round, Bobby.
00:41:46Well, later in the round, he's doing the same thing.
00:41:47He's whipping that right hand around.
00:41:49And, again, I think he's taking a little power off.
00:41:51He's got to come up.
00:41:51He tries to do that probably right off that bend there.
00:41:54But, again, Tony Tucker's not offering up enough offense to combat any of the onslaught.
00:42:00Well, he's getting so far behind here.
00:42:01He's got to do something offensively.
00:42:05And it's got to be important.
00:42:06And it's got to be significant.
00:42:07Or else this guy's just going to continue.
00:42:09Lennox will eat him up all night long.
00:42:11And he will retain his championship, which he has, with no throw.
00:42:16Perhaps Pepe Correa is upset because his prediction of a fifth-round knockout has long gone.
00:42:22But urging Lewis on to throw combinations.
00:42:25You're faster than Tucker.
00:42:27Double up on the jacks.
00:42:28And he has been urging Lewis on in that fashion for the last few rounds.
00:42:35Just a few moments ago, you saw Lennox Lewis throw the jab.
00:42:38Right hand to the body and come up with a hook.
00:42:39Just what Pepe Correa asked of him.
00:42:41But, again, will he keep doing it?
00:42:43Will he fall back into this routine of knowing that he can out-jab Tucker and just lay back and hit him when he wants to?
00:42:48It just appears, I mean, it's pretty obvious, that Tucker is his for the asking.
00:42:58But he is not taking advantage of the situation.
00:43:02Well, Tucker, on his part, is not seizing the situation and trying to take this heavyweight championship, which was presented to him as a gift.
00:43:09At the end of his life, boxing life, they have given him a golden opportunity.
00:43:12And he's not fighting like he appreciates it, because he should be walking, trying to walk right through Lennox Lewis.
00:43:18It's him or me.
00:43:19When you get to this stage in your life, let it all fly.
00:43:22Maybe he's waiting for those later rounds.
00:43:24If he is, it's a bad mistake, because he's getting way back on my card.
00:43:28Lennox Lewis right now can see Tony Tucker so easy.
00:43:31And by that, I mean, he knows what he's doing.
00:43:32He can see it ahead of time.
00:43:33He's reacting to it appropriately.
00:43:34Tony Tucker valiant in defeat against Mike Tyson six years ago when he fought Tyson.
00:43:40Lost his decision, but fought it.
00:43:42With a right hand that was broken in three places.
00:43:46But right now, having his difficulty with no physical handicap against the champion Lewis.
00:43:54See, now he lands a good jab.
00:43:55He doesn't follow up with anything.
00:43:56Walks into a right hand.
00:43:58Nice right hand by Lennox Lewis.
00:43:59He walked into it because he was so lazy.
00:44:03Tony Tucker was so lazy throwing that jab.
00:44:05He got so convinced he could throw it without that right hand.
00:44:09Now he throws the right hand back, and he's fighting back.
00:44:10Maybe the best punch of the night by Tucker, that lunging right.
00:44:14Now combinations by Tucker.
00:44:16Now push him off and go right in.
00:44:18That's it.
00:44:19This is what he's got to do.
00:44:20He's got to finish him off.
00:44:22Tony Tucker unloading.
00:44:24Tony Tucker to the head of Lewis.
00:44:26And Lewis just standing there.
00:44:28But he likes that.
00:44:29That is it.
00:44:30Is he hurt or is he setting a trap for him?
00:44:33That's something we've got to know.
00:44:34I think he wanted a slug fist.
00:44:35Now he's got it.
00:44:37Lewis may have been playing passive.
00:44:39What a right hand by Lewis.
00:44:45Tucker's hurt.
00:44:46Now that's heavyweight action.
00:44:47And Tucker's holding on.
00:44:49Tucker may be ready to go.
00:44:53Hang it up.
00:44:55It's Tony Tucker.
00:44:56And he got a good elbow in the back of the head for his troubles, did Tony Tucker.
00:45:00But live, good action.
00:45:02And there's the foul.
00:45:03Tucker's out.
00:45:04Look at his legs.
00:45:05Look at his legs.
00:45:06Oh, it's he wobbly.
00:45:08He is out.
00:45:09That last shot just short-circited all those synapses in his brain.
00:45:13While he wanted action, he took it to him.
00:45:15He took his chance.
00:45:16Let's listen.
00:45:17You know what you did.
00:45:18You know what you did.
00:45:19You ran them shot.
00:45:20How are you feeling?
00:45:21He ran them shot.
00:45:22You ran them shot.
00:45:23Then you stopped in front of the guy and relaxed.
00:45:25When he starts to find at you, reach out and hold him.
00:45:30Don't let him find you.
00:45:31Got it?
00:45:32Or step around.
00:45:33Don't be there.
00:45:35All right.
00:45:35Let's take a look at where he got him in trouble now.
00:45:38Tucker's been fighting back all this time.
00:45:41Tucker was taking command and looking like he was going to take command of this whole
00:45:44and like a fox, there was Lennox just waiting.
00:45:48So here is the shot that I'm waiting for.
00:45:50I think Lennox was covering very well.
00:45:52He comes up out of that.
00:45:53And there you go again.
00:45:55He's coming up out of it.
00:45:56And this is a big right hand.
00:45:58He gets hit with an elbow in the back of the head.
00:45:59I mean, he's throwing whatever he can.
00:46:01He wants to win this.
00:46:02Well, he wants to keep this title, but win this impressively.
00:46:04And Bobby, again, while we keep saying, follow the fighter in with your punch.
00:46:07Don't just stand there.
00:46:08Round nine.
00:46:09Lewis, all over Tucker.
00:46:12And Tucker goes down.
00:46:16The second knockdown.
00:46:18Tucker looking very weary.
00:46:19More than hurt.
00:46:20He's weary.
00:46:21His legs aren't there.
00:46:23This fight is going to be very, very difficult to continue.
00:46:25Pass the round.
00:46:26Lots of time remaining in the ninth round.
00:46:30Two and a half minutes.
00:46:32Lewis trying to end it right here.
00:46:33Oh, what a left hand by Lewis.
00:46:37Tucker trying to fight back.
00:46:38Tucker trying to fight back.
00:46:40He just doesn't have it in his body to come back with.
00:46:42He's just sitting waiting for the assault.
00:46:44Boy, look at that right hand by Lennox.
00:46:46Just as Tucker in the last round started to get some offense together,
00:46:52it appeared as if Lewis set a trap, and it worked perfectly.
00:46:55Tucker may have sped himself as Lewis came back at the end of that eighth round.
00:46:59Well, now Lennox Lewis has got to worry about wearing himself up
00:47:03because this is still round nine.
00:47:05Tucker is just barely there by just a thread.
00:47:08So Lennox Lewis has tried manfully to get him down.
00:47:12Let's see if he can finish this.
00:47:13Plenty of time for Lennox Lewis to do the job.
00:47:16Lewis looking for that one punch to end it.
00:47:22Lewis now showing a few signs of fatigue,
00:47:26holding him with one hand and trying to bang him,
00:47:28but Tucker can't keep him off.
00:47:30Now taunting, smiling at Tucker.
00:47:32He's buying time.
00:47:33He hasn't got points left either.
00:47:34He's got to wait until those juices start coming back into his muscles
00:47:37so he can punch.
00:47:39Tony is just kind of waiting for the assault,
00:47:42just listening to that second stick by on the clock,
00:47:44hoping to get past.
00:47:46Oh, two nice little shots.
00:47:48Does Tucker have it in the reserve to come back?
00:47:52Nice right hand and hook, but is Lennox Lewis setting another trap?
00:47:55He is.
00:47:55You can't tell.
00:47:56He is.
00:47:57He is.
00:47:57He's going to be a very cagey, inexperienced champion.
00:48:01He's setting his trap.
00:48:02It's kind of stupid when you've got a big guy there that can bang you.
00:48:04He's just kind of letting him take a shot, which is kind of dumb.
00:48:09Of course, that's how you got him in the last time.
00:48:11Let him get brave and then punch his head off.
00:48:13Interesting because Tucker's saying he's the one with the experience.
00:48:16Tucker with the right crunch.
00:48:18There's nothing on Tucker's punches, though.
00:48:19Nothing.
00:48:20And then a low blow by Tucker.
00:48:23At least it's heating up into a good heavyweight championship fight
00:48:26with both men trying to get the advantage rather than that chess game we were watching.
00:48:30Lennox Lewis is looking to load up on one right hand.
00:48:33That's it.
00:48:34Here's the hook.
00:48:35That's what he's looking for, Bobby.
00:48:36Just that one zipping punch that'll change him around, turn his legs to jelly.
00:48:40He's setting on it, too.
00:48:41You can see him.
00:48:42He's starting to lean back, starting to cock it.
00:48:44He's looking to take that right over the top.
00:48:45And right now, he's risking right hands.
00:48:50Back comes Tucker.
00:48:52But Lewis again talking.
00:48:57That is it for the ninth round.
00:49:00Give Tucker credit for guts.
00:49:08Now, listen.
00:49:09Listen.
00:49:10This whole round, you're going to stay outside and use the jab.
00:49:13Nothing but the jab.
00:49:14Jab, jab, jab.
00:49:15All right?
00:49:15Get your shit right together.
00:49:16Give me that cup, I want you.
00:49:18This round, you'll stay outside and you'll use the jab.
00:49:21You got me?
00:49:22Use the jab on me.
00:49:23Come on.
00:49:25Give me the jab this round.
00:49:26Give me the jab.
00:49:28Look at that, man.
00:49:29Stay with the left hand.
00:49:30Got his hands down.
00:49:31Get your shoulder.
00:49:32Cow.
00:49:34Look at him.
00:49:35I told you, if he's starting to work at the top, man, do that.
00:49:38Don't be macho, man.
00:49:40Now, sit him back up again with the jab.
00:49:41Go back to your arm.
00:49:42Yeah, yeah.
00:49:42Great.
00:49:42Go ahead.
00:49:42All right, let's watch these two rallies.
00:49:45You know, I think Lennox made a mistake in letting this, this is the knockdown, wasn't a mistake.
00:49:51But the rest of that round, he just let him come on, let him come on, let him come on for no reason long.
00:49:56Well, he used a lot of energy, and he may very well have used up more than he needed to.
00:50:00And again, we have a big man, 35 pounds, hard to get out of there.
00:50:04Well, Peppich apparently has his worries because he said, this round, just jab him.
00:50:07Instead of saying, hey, go in there and finish this guy off, you just let him off the hook.
00:50:11He just said, just keep jabbing him.
00:50:13Apparently, he's very happy that he's way ahead and happy to take a decision.
00:50:17Lennox Lewis has ventured into the 10th round only once in his career.
00:50:24So these are somewhat uncharted waters for the man in the ring, the champion.
00:50:29We've been waiting for Tucker to make his move, his do-or-die move he said he was going to make.
00:50:34And he sure made it that last round.
00:50:35He sucked it up from someplace, was in deep trouble.
00:50:38And he came on, and he was punishing the champion toward the end of that round.
00:50:42So you've got to give Tony a lot of credit for that round.
00:50:45Lennox Lewis right now does not appear to be the fresher of the two, believe it or not.
00:50:48He seems to be a little weak, a little tentative himself.
00:50:51And Tucker knows he's so far behind he has to close now.
00:50:54Has Lennox Lewis let this one out of his grasp?
00:50:58This is apparently a very disciplined fighter.
00:51:08He does what the corner tells him.
00:51:09That's exactly what he's doing.
00:51:11Move and jab.
00:51:11That's all he told him to do.
00:51:13That's what he's doing.
00:51:13I wouldn't agree with that.
00:51:15But, hey, I mean, maybe he's willing to waste a round that way.
00:51:19There's a right hand by Tucker.
00:51:21That's what I meant.
00:51:23Lewis in danger.
00:51:24At times of going down, in the heavyweight division more than any other, one punch can
00:51:30do it.
00:51:32Yeah, I don't think you want to change what got you there.
00:51:34I mean, once you're already beating the other guy and you're beating him well, you start
00:51:37being cautious.
00:51:38Look at the attack by Tony Tucker.
00:51:40That's what I'm talking about.
00:51:41Once again, you see Lennox Lewis now getting hit much more than he had earlier.
00:51:45Maybe that energy is real important at this point.
00:51:47Again, uncharted territories after this round.
00:51:50Backing Lewis up.
00:51:51Lewis comes back with a right.
00:51:52Tony Tucker with more confidence.
00:51:56Something we talked about earlier with experience.
00:51:59He hasn't been in the late rounds and he loaded up with every shot when he had Tucker hurt
00:52:02instead of some combinations and landing the big one late.
00:52:05Tucker feels that at times Lewis makes amateur mistakes.
00:52:10The inexperience really works against Lennox Lewis.
00:52:13Let's see if it comes to fruition.
00:52:16Well, Tony is sucking it up.
00:52:18He wants his championship.
00:52:19He's coming after it.
00:52:20He's taking a good little beating and he's still there and he's still dangerous is Tony Tucker.
00:52:27Notice who's going forward now and who's going backwards.
00:52:30Momentum swung a little bit.
00:52:32Tony Tucker on the attack.
00:52:34We approach 20 seconds left in the 10th round.
00:52:42The crowd getting behind the underdog, Tony Tucker.
00:52:47It'll be interesting to see what Cardero has to tell him now.
00:52:50That advice cost him a round.
00:52:51Final seconds of round number 10.
00:52:58He's in deep water.
00:53:08He's in deep water.
00:53:09He's in deep water.
00:53:11Take it to him.
00:53:13Just like you're doing.
00:53:14Listen to me, the guy that cut all the way off, okay?
00:53:19He's out in deep water.
00:53:21He's in deep water.
00:53:23Take it to him, just like you're doing.
00:53:27Keep backing him up.
00:53:29You won that round, Bieber, baby.
00:53:30We got to win some more rounds.
00:53:33That man has shot his water.
00:53:34All right, let's take this rally by Tucker,
00:53:37this tired old man that's out there trying to win a heavyweight championship.
00:53:40Boy, he's giving it a go now.
00:53:42You can't take back everything you said in those first four or five rounds or six rounds
00:53:46because he's summing up every little bit of courage he's got.
00:53:49He's coming forward, Bobby.
00:53:50I admire Tony Tucker for his fight.
00:53:52Had he done more of that earlier, he might have had a closer fight.
00:53:55It may be too late.
00:53:56It's too late according to points, but it's never too late in boxing.
00:53:59As you well know, Bobby, it's never too late.
00:54:02If he gets cautious, if Lennox Lewis gets cautious, try to coast, boy, it's big problems.
00:54:07He's got to take command again.
00:54:09But it's pretty obvious what Tony Tucker needs here.
00:54:12He's been to the canvas on two occasions.
00:54:16Knocked out for the first time in his career.
00:54:19But Tony Tucker coming on stronger later here in the fight.
00:54:24Running into a right hand and a left hook.
00:54:26Again, he's coming in, but Lennox Lewis seems to be slightly revived.
00:54:29Well, I think that's what they did.
00:54:30They took that round off.
00:54:31And they said, okay, go back to the attack.
00:54:33Because he was getting weary.
00:54:35And he blew that round, but he rested.
00:54:38Yeah, Lewis might have a second win here now in the 11th.
00:54:42Whatever it is, Tony Tucker's made it a fight all of a sudden.
00:54:44Instead of that waltz we were watching.
00:54:46And that's the excitement that we're seeing here.
00:54:48Tony's crying with all his heart to get this championship off Lennox Lewis.
00:54:51Lennox Lewis has never been to the 11th round.
00:54:59So you talk about uncharted waters.
00:55:01And again, we harken back to the two judges from Great Britain.
00:55:04It just goes to the cards.
00:55:06That's what Tony Tucker should have been doing.
00:55:08They didn't land much before.
00:55:10The breeze from was hurting Lennox Lewis at least is punching four and five at a time.
00:55:15That's what he's got to do.
00:55:16He's got to take command.
00:55:17This title is there.
00:55:17Maybe Tony thought about putting on a late comeback because, again, this man, the champion,
00:55:23had not been in championship rounds.
00:55:25And Tony has.
00:55:25Yeah, but Tony's getting old too, Bobby.
00:55:27And he hasn't had a peaceful life.
00:55:29He's had a pretty strange and wild life.
00:55:32So you don't figure he's going to be strong at the end.
00:55:34You figure the young man's going to be strong at the end.
00:55:36Tucker's been to the 11th round four times with a record of three and one.
00:55:42But Tucker bouncing back after the drug problems, managerial problems,
00:55:46all kinds of personal problems, two-year layoff, 14-0, 10 knockouts since the layoff.
00:55:53He did question the caliber of opponents, though, during that comeback.
00:55:58But this is his chance to redeem himself, to win the title.
00:56:01Lennox boxing well, boxing well this time.
00:56:04He's gotten his shots.
00:56:05He's made Tony Tucker miss because he's trying so hard.
00:56:08He's just not in the land.
00:56:09He's just not following in like he did before.
00:56:13Lewis slipping.
00:56:15His foot went right out of the ring, down to a knee.
00:56:18No punches, laying it, just one of those things.
00:56:20But that, again, is something you can also attribute to fatigue,
00:56:23not paying attention, not being sharp about where his feet are.
00:56:26Final 30 seconds of round 11.
00:56:37Aswin Tony's got to take him in.
00:56:39If he's going to take this round, he's got to come in close.
00:56:42He's got to try it.
00:56:43He's only got 30 seconds.
00:56:45Burst of energy here would do it.
00:56:47Can he summon up the energy?
00:56:51Well, apparently not.
00:56:53Not coming up with what he needs.
00:56:55No, no, no, you gave it away.
00:57:09Look here, let me tell you what you're doing.
00:57:10You can win this by pop, pop and step into your left.
00:57:13Pop, pop, step into your left.
00:57:14Pop, pop, bam, and step over.
00:57:16But damn it, you can't wait for him to get off.
00:57:17Now, you're giving him back in the goddamn fight now.
00:57:20Come on.
00:57:20Wait, if Don Cain's touched me.
00:57:21Listen to me.
00:57:23Listen to me.
00:57:23Want to be champ?
00:57:24Listen to me.
00:57:25Shoot the right hand to the body.
00:57:27Tony, it's the final round.
00:57:28We turn close, all right?
00:57:29Come back with the left hook and put the right hand.
00:57:31Tony, we fight against the right hand.
00:57:33You need to dominate this round big, okay?
00:57:41Here's a slip.
00:57:42That was just Bobby.
00:57:44His foot, like you said, went right out of the ring.
00:57:47They've been pouring a lot of water on the bodies.
00:57:49And the ring apron's not that big.
00:57:51You know, like a foot.
00:57:52Ladies and gentlemen, we're approaching the 12th and 5th.
00:57:53He's never been this far in a fight in his life.
00:57:55The fatigue factor has to be playing some part in that.
00:57:58Round 12.
00:57:59And Pepe Correa launching the Newt Rockne speech at Lennox Lewis.
00:58:05He said, you've led him back to the fight.
00:58:07Don't forget, this is Don King country.
00:58:10Round 12 as they touch gloves.
00:58:12That's not as clean as it can be.
00:58:13It's Don King country with two English judges.
00:58:15I think that's a neutral.
00:58:17I mean, neutralize each other.
00:58:19It's sure that Tony Tucker said at the outset that that doesn't trouble him.
00:58:22Isn't that somewhat of an oxy-worn?
00:58:24What's it called?
00:58:26Lennox Lewis trying to hold on to the championship.
00:58:30Tony Tucker trying to take it away.
00:58:33Tucker needing a knockout.
00:58:37It's that fighting with a great deal of authority as Lennox.
00:58:40I mean, his punches aren't hard.
00:58:42They're first, and they're landing some, but not what he did before.
00:58:46And Tucker coming forward, not deciding this is the last round.
00:58:49He's going to end up on the canvas, or he's going to end up champion.
00:58:52He's not deciding that.
00:58:53He's still cautious.
00:58:54Even though Lennox Lewis is the champion, and by most expert opinions,
00:58:57obviously by the odds, the better fighter,
00:58:59that experience that Tony Tucker's had earlier in his career
00:59:01may be helping him right now.
00:59:03Well, he's certainly got this huge record.
00:59:05I mean, he's got talent.
00:59:06He's got size.
00:59:07And all he lacked was the aggressiveness.
00:59:09And from time to time, he showed the aggressiveness
00:59:12that would have made him a good champion
00:59:13had he had it with consistency.
00:59:15He's been inconsistent.
00:59:17That's the word for his life.
00:59:18If only he fought earlier in this fight the way he did later on.
00:59:22Tony Tucker could have been a different story.
00:59:25Well, right now, Lennox Lewis is looking like
00:59:27he's already folded up the tent,
00:59:29and he's headed back to England with the title.
00:59:31He's certainly not anxious about the crowd
00:59:34as reflecting the inactivity of the round.
00:59:38How could this be with a heavyweight championship in the air?
00:59:41How could a guy not be fighting like crazy with Tony Tucker?
00:59:45Why isn't he coming for it?
00:59:46Fatigue?
00:59:47Well, I think Lewis also thinks he's got this fight wrapped up
00:59:49because he made a comment to Pepe Correa,
00:59:52like, what are you talking about?
00:59:53I let him back in the fight in the corner.
00:59:54and Pepe Correa wanted him to stay on target,
00:59:57stay in line with what he's doing,
00:59:58stay focused,
00:59:59and Rick Riesin figuring he's got to lock up.
01:00:00And no matter what happens,
01:00:02somewhat of a moral victory,
01:00:04a personal victory for Tony Tucker,
01:00:05just hanging around here for 12.
01:00:07Bobby, I wasn't talking about Lennox Lewis,
01:00:09not funny.
01:00:09I was talking about GMT Tucker, not funny.
01:00:11If he's that far behind,
01:00:13he should be running across,
01:00:14like he did before,
01:00:15and mixing it up,
01:00:16and getting it going
01:00:17because this is the last round
01:00:18and he's saving it for nothing here.
01:00:21Well, he's been on the floor
01:00:22and he should know he's behind.
01:00:23I can't see him doing anything
01:00:24but hanging all up.
01:00:25I agree with you.
01:00:25We got clean, we got clean,
01:00:26let him out.
01:00:28Get back, get back.
01:00:29Lennox Lewis glances over at his corner.
01:00:32He justified his title shot,
01:00:34I'll say that.
01:00:34He fought hard,
01:00:35down twice,
01:00:36he got up fighting,
01:00:37but he is not exhibiting what you need
01:00:39to be the heavyweight champion,
01:00:41which is aggressivism,
01:00:42the desire to get in there
01:00:43and get it no matter what.
01:00:44Against Riddick Bowe,
01:00:47you're saying this wouldn't cut it?
01:00:49Oh, it would not with Riddick Bowe.
01:00:51Off of this,
01:00:52I don't think Lennox
01:00:52increased his popularity,
01:00:54a great deal.
01:00:55Or his stock.
01:00:56No.
01:00:57Final seconds of the fight.
01:01:01There it is.
01:01:02That is it.
01:01:05Lennox Lewis raising his hands in triumph.
01:01:10He put Tucker to the camps two times.
01:01:14Tucker came back,
01:01:16but perhaps too late.
01:01:20So now,
01:01:22it goes to the judges' scorecards.
01:01:24You heard Pepe Correa
01:01:25saying to Lennox Lewis,
01:01:27you let Tony Tucker
01:01:30back in the fight.
01:01:31This is Don King country,
01:01:32but as we pointed out,
01:01:34perhaps to offset the situation,
01:01:37the two judges from England,
01:01:40Harry Gibbs and Mickey Vann.
01:01:42The other judge from Las Vegas
01:01:43is Jerry Rohr.
01:01:46I just noticed in the corner,
01:01:48Tony Tucker went back to the corner
01:01:49and said,
01:01:49I lost it, huh?
01:01:50I lost it.
01:01:51He feels in his heart
01:01:52that he didn't give quite enough.
01:01:53He didn't have quite enough
01:01:54to close it.
01:01:55And Lennox Lewis,
01:01:55again,
01:01:56an inexperienced champion
01:01:57in his first championship fight,
01:01:58showing that even late,
01:02:00he too is having trouble.
01:02:01And disappointing
01:02:03because if Tony Tucker
01:02:06had opened it up a little more
01:02:07and shown more offense
01:02:08in the earlier rounds, Bobby,
01:02:10he would have had a better shot here
01:02:12for the decision.
01:02:13Yeah,
01:02:14but the flip side of that coin
01:02:15is if he opened up there
01:02:16and Lennox Lewis was able to withstand,
01:02:17would he have enough
01:02:18to then stay in the fight
01:02:19while Lennox Lewis came on?
01:02:21So,
01:02:21it's very difficult to say,
01:02:23but Monday morning quarterbacks
01:02:24are always 100% on the money.
01:02:25That's why we're here.
01:02:26And Lennox Lewis
01:02:29showing the British flag.
01:02:34Let's take a look
01:02:35at the knockdowns in the fight.
01:02:37We pick it up
01:02:37in round number three.
01:02:40Lennox Lewis
01:02:41lowering the boom
01:02:42on Tony Tucker.
01:02:43Well,
01:02:43this set the pace
01:02:44for Lennox Lewis
01:02:45and what he was going to use
01:02:45for the rest of the fight.
01:02:46The right hand,
01:02:47that was his key.
01:02:48That was what he wanted to do.
01:02:49He wanted to land
01:02:50that right hand
01:02:51and here when he knows he can,
01:02:53he forces it
01:02:54and at some points in time
01:02:55he forced it
01:02:56so much that Pepe Correa
01:02:57got mad at him.
01:02:57He was going right hand crazy.
01:03:02There's another look
01:03:03at it from a different angle.
01:03:05It was very quick
01:03:06and on the money.
01:03:06He probably never saw it.
01:03:09And then in round nine, Bob.
01:03:11Well, in round nine,
01:03:12you know,
01:03:12they're both tired.
01:03:13He's coming off
01:03:14being pummeled a little bit
01:03:15in round eight.
01:03:15He's a little more fatigued
01:03:17as is Lennox Lewis,
01:03:18but the punches now
01:03:19are landing solid.
01:03:20He's just trying to hold him off,
01:03:21putting his hands out,
01:03:22but he's getting hit.
01:03:23Gets one on top of the head,
01:03:24down to the knees.
01:03:26And a frustrated look
01:03:28on the face
01:03:29of Tony Tucker.
01:03:35One more time,
01:03:36you see him
01:03:36who's working forward,
01:03:37being the aggressor.
01:03:38He's got him in trouble,
01:03:39whipping big shots,
01:03:40and part of the thing
01:03:40that got him tired
01:03:41was each one of these shots
01:03:42was trying to send him
01:03:43to the building
01:03:43on top of the head,
01:03:44finally down to his knees.
01:03:46We are set for the official decision.
01:03:51Our ring announcer,
01:03:52Jimmy Lennon Jr.
01:03:58Ladies and gentlemen,
01:04:00after 12 rounds of boxing,
01:04:02we have a unanimous decision.
01:04:04Here are the score totals.
01:04:05Judge at ringside,
01:04:07Mickey Vann,
01:04:07scores the bat 118-111.
01:04:10Jerry Roth scores the bat 117-111.
01:04:14Judge Harry Gibbs scores
01:04:16about 116-112.
01:04:19All three in favor of the winner
01:04:22and still heavyweight champion
01:04:24of the world,
01:04:26Lennox Lewis.
01:04:28Lennox Lewis.
01:04:45So there you have it,
01:04:47Lennox Lewis in his first defense.
01:04:51Unanimous decision over Tony Tucker-Lewis,
01:04:53now 23-0.
01:04:55And Tony Tucker falls to 48-2.
01:05:01A couple of knockdowns
01:05:02by Lennox Lewis,
01:05:04contributing to the loss
01:05:05for Tony Tucker.
01:05:07Our fight doctor,
01:05:08Ferdy Pacheco,
01:05:09standing by in the ring
01:05:10with post-fight reaction.
01:05:12Doc?
01:05:13All right.
01:05:14A little confusing up here
01:05:15because there's a lot of people,
01:05:16but the fight,
01:05:18was it as exciting
01:05:20as you thought it was going to be?
01:05:21I tell you,
01:05:21I give Tony Tucker enough respect
01:05:24because he's got a great chin,
01:05:25he's got guts.
01:05:26If that was Riddick Bowe,
01:05:27Riddick Bowe would have been down
01:05:28on the ground.
01:05:29But Tony Tucker,
01:05:30he realized that this was his last chance
01:05:31and I have to give more of the credit
01:05:32in the world.
01:05:33And you think it could have been
01:05:34a lot more action
01:05:35after you got him down?
01:05:36It seemed like you took a round off.
01:05:38You just jabbed.
01:05:38I heard your corner say,
01:05:39just jab,
01:05:40and that's what you did.
01:05:40No, the funny thing,
01:05:41I got a cramp like in the fifth round
01:05:42and I was trying to work it out
01:05:43before I started combinations.
01:05:45But, you know,
01:05:46I just sparked a smart fight
01:05:48and just came out with it.
01:05:49You were satisfied
01:05:50with your performance?
01:05:51I wasn't satisfied.
01:05:52I can always do better.
01:05:53But I did it for my mother
01:05:54for Mother's Day.
01:05:55Happy Mother's Day, Mom.
01:05:57You can say happy Mother's Day.
01:05:58Yeah, happy Mother's Day, Mom.
01:06:00All right.
01:06:01Tony, you did very well.
01:06:02This is your last hurrah,
01:06:04apparently,
01:06:04because you sucked it up.
01:06:06You almost pulled it off there
01:06:07in one round,
01:06:08but you went down twice.
01:06:09What went through your mind
01:06:11when you were down?
01:06:12You think you could get up
01:06:12and finish?
01:06:13Oh, I knew I wasn't going
01:06:14to get up and finish, you know.
01:06:15I just, you know,
01:06:16fell asleep, got in there
01:06:17and got lazy.
01:06:19And he caught me with a good shot.
01:06:21Liz is a good fighter, you know.
01:06:22But I can't make no excuses,
01:06:24you know.
01:06:24But I would say that,
01:06:26you know,
01:06:26I had some mishaps
01:06:28during my training
01:06:29and I got sick, you know,
01:06:31and I had to put out
01:06:32for a few days.
01:06:33I think that might have, you know,
01:06:34pulled me back a little bit.
01:06:35But Liz is a good fighter,
01:06:37you know,
01:06:37but this ain't over for me.
01:06:38I ain't lost but twice.
01:06:40I lost to a good fighter,
01:06:41but I'll be back
01:06:42and it ain't over for me yet.
01:06:43Tony, we kept saying,
01:06:44what's holding him back
01:06:45the last round?
01:06:46The last round looked like
01:06:47you two guys were in a waltz contest
01:06:48when you had it in your hands
01:06:49if you wanted to go get it.
01:06:50Why didn't you go get it
01:06:51in that last round?
01:06:53Well, you know,
01:06:54I was, you know,
01:06:55coming at him,
01:06:55but, you know,
01:06:56I was just off.
01:06:57I was off to, you know,
01:06:58today.
01:06:59You know,
01:06:59I just couldn't put it together.
01:07:01You know,
01:07:02I just couldn't put it together.
01:07:03You know,
01:07:04you know,
01:07:04sometimes, you know,
01:07:05I asked the Lord
01:07:06to give me this victory,
01:07:07but sometimes, you know,
01:07:08he pulled back and said,
01:07:09man,
01:07:09just wait a little bit.
01:07:09You know,
01:07:10and so, you know,
01:07:11I'm not taking this
01:07:12in a downfall
01:07:13and say,
01:07:14you know,
01:07:14my career is over
01:07:15because I still got
01:07:15to promise a career.
01:07:16I think I put on a great fight.
01:07:18I could have put on
01:07:19a better fight,
01:07:20but you win some,
01:07:22you lose some.
01:07:23I have to lose this time.
01:07:24You know,
01:07:24Linus was a better man today.
01:07:26All right.
01:07:27There was no problem
01:07:27with who won the fight.
01:07:28It was how he won the fight.
01:07:30I thought we had
01:07:30a great night of fighting today.
01:07:31Don Cap,
01:07:32Julian Jackson,
01:07:33went down for the first time
01:07:34in his life
01:07:35in a blazing fight
01:07:36and Julius Cesar Chavez
01:07:38proved what he is,
01:07:39the best pound for pound
01:07:40and this wasn't
01:07:41the greatest heavyweight
01:07:42fight of all time,
01:07:43but it did not prove
01:07:44that Lennox
01:07:45is the best heavyweight
01:07:45around.
01:07:46It certainly didn't.
01:07:46I think the judges ruled
01:07:47and I accepted
01:07:49that Lennox did
01:07:50a great fight.
01:07:51He fought very good.
01:07:52Tony was lazy.
01:07:53He wasn't getting off.
01:07:54If he got off,
01:07:55it may have been different.
01:07:56I thought Tony
01:07:56would win hands down,
01:07:57so they certainly
01:07:58proved me wrong.
01:07:59So congratulations
01:08:00to Lennox Lewis,
01:08:01a great champion.
01:08:02I'm very happy to see him
01:08:02do his job
01:08:03like he did his job
01:08:04and that's what makes
01:08:05a great night of boxing.
01:08:06Now to put on
01:08:06a promoter's hat,
01:08:08we had an excellent show.
01:08:09We got a show
01:08:10that's so much different
01:08:11from all the other shows
01:08:12that the people
01:08:12pay their money to see.
01:08:13We guarantee
01:08:14customer satisfaction.
01:08:15We give them
01:08:15four other prices
01:08:16and we give them
01:08:17three for one.
01:08:18That's a bang for the buck.
01:08:19So I'm very happy
01:08:20about the show.
01:08:21Julian Jackson
01:08:22and Gerald McClellan
01:08:23proved to be
01:08:24just what we said
01:08:24it would be,
01:08:25a bond burner
01:08:26and it was really
01:08:27an exciting show
01:08:28and as you said,
01:08:29Julio Cesar Chavez,
01:08:30the inimitable
01:08:30and incomparable
01:08:31Chavez
01:08:32is moving on
01:08:33toward Cornell Whitaker
01:08:34and San Antonio
01:08:35will set them in a fair.
01:08:36I think that's what
01:08:37makes audience appeal
01:08:38that you continue
01:08:38to build fighters
01:08:39and that you continue
01:08:40to build toward
01:08:41a very major fight
01:08:42with Cornell Whitaker.
01:08:43Maybe the best fight
01:08:44of the year
01:08:44building up here.
01:08:45That could be
01:08:46the end of Julio Cesar Chavez.
01:08:47It could be
01:08:47he's the best that there is.
01:08:48We won't know
01:08:49until that takes place.
01:08:50That's a great one
01:08:51to come up with.
01:08:52Let's go to Steve Albert
01:08:53at ringside
01:08:53for a wrap.
01:08:55All right,
01:08:55in just a moment,
01:08:56Bobby Chez
01:08:57and I will review
01:08:58the night's bounce
01:08:58capped by the
01:08:59heavyweight championship
01:09:00we just witnessed.
01:09:01But first,
01:09:01let's go back over
01:09:02to Montel Williams.
01:09:06You know,
01:09:06I'm standing by
01:09:07in the ring
01:09:07and I've got
01:09:08Lennox Lewis'
01:09:09mother here,
01:09:10Violet Lewis.
01:09:11Mother's Day
01:09:12is tomorrow.
01:09:13I don't think
01:09:14your son could have
01:09:14brought you
01:09:14a better Mother's Day
01:09:15present, huh?
01:09:16No,
01:09:16I have the best
01:09:17Mother's Day
01:09:17present any mother's
01:09:18could have.
01:09:19Well,
01:09:19you know,
01:09:19he said,
01:09:20happy Mother's Day
01:09:21to you.
01:09:21I know it must
01:09:22make you feel good.
01:09:23Yes,
01:09:23feel good.
01:09:24Now,
01:09:24you know,
01:09:25Riddick Bowe
01:09:26says that he
01:09:27wants to fight him
01:09:28and Lewis wants
01:09:29to fight Riddick Bowe.
01:09:30What's the mother
01:09:30say if her son
01:09:31meets Riddick Bowe
01:09:32in the next six months
01:09:34or so?
01:09:36Get it done
01:09:36for my son.
01:09:37Get it done
01:09:37for your son?
01:09:38Yes.
01:09:38Is Mama going to say
01:09:39knock him out?
01:09:40Yes,
01:09:41knock out him.
01:09:42The same way
01:09:43he did it in the Olympics.
01:09:45He did it in the...
01:09:46You got it.
01:09:47Okay,
01:09:47I'm going to go back
01:09:48to you, Steve.
01:09:49Thank you,
01:09:49Montel,
01:09:50as we recap
01:09:51this boxing triple header
01:09:52with Bobby Chess.
01:09:54What does this victory
01:09:54prove for Lennox Lewis?
01:09:56Well,
01:09:56it certainly does
01:09:57a lot for solidifying
01:09:58his claim to part
01:09:59of that world title,
01:10:00having beaten Riddick Bowe
01:10:01in the amateurs,
01:10:01but he's still going to
01:10:02have a little identity
01:10:03crisis because of
01:10:04Boyfield was the one
01:10:06who beat the man
01:10:07who beat the man.
01:10:08And with Riddick Bowe
01:10:09beating him,
01:10:09he's going to get
01:10:10all the attention.
01:10:10Until he beats Bowe,
01:10:11is he still considered
01:10:12the other champion?
01:10:13It's going to happen
01:10:14a lot that way,
01:10:14unfortunately,
01:10:15but right now
01:10:15he's fighting
01:10:15the better opponents
01:10:16with Razor Ruddick
01:10:17and now Tony Tucker
01:10:18fighting men,
01:10:19beating big men.
01:10:20Riddick Bowe hasn't
01:10:21beaten big men
01:10:21of this caliber,
01:10:22so it could cause
01:10:23a problem.
01:10:23Same old song
01:10:24for Chavez,
01:10:2587-0.
01:10:26Perfect.
01:10:26What can you say
01:10:27about the man?
01:10:27And the upset
01:10:28of the night,
01:10:28Gerald McClellan,
01:10:29impressive.
01:10:29Which we knew
01:10:30was very possible.
01:10:31Two terrific punchers,
01:10:32a puncher's nightmare
01:10:32but a fan's dream.
01:10:33All right,
01:10:34more pay-per-view action
01:10:35coming up in the fall
01:10:36and mark this one down.

01:10:47from ringside.

01:10:49to Jim Hill.
01:10:50Okay, Steve,

01:10:53tonight.

01:11:02result in our main event
01:11:03will affect the future
01:11:04of the heavyweight division
01:11:05but one thing is for certain,
01:11:07it should begin
01:11:08to be very, very interesting.
01:11:10But before we go,
01:11:11let's recap one more time.
01:11:12The three world titles
01:11:13that were on display
01:11:15tonight in the WBC

01:11:17An upset 25-year-old
01:11:19Gerald McClellan

01:11:21Middleweight Champion
01:11:22as he upset Julian Jackson
01:11:23with a fifth-round TKO.
01:11:25Then in the WBC
01:11:26super-lightweight title fight,
01:11:28it was Julio Cesar Chavez
01:11:29retaining his title
01:11:31against Terrence Ali
01:11:32when referee
01:11:33Carlos Padilla
01:11:33stopped the fight
01:11:34in the sixth round.
01:11:36And then in the main event,
