00:00Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro denounced the United States foreign policy in the region,
00:20describing it as a violation of international law and an attack against all of humanity.
00:24In Chile, the Electoral Service conducted a national voting drill with the aim of familiarizing citizens with the election process
00:35and have the general elections to be held this Sunday.
00:42The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, said Friday that the war in Sudan is a normal conflict over resources and overall materials,
00:50in which the international community must take action.
00:54Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Sophie Fernanda from the De La Sur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
01:03We'll begin with the news. Stay with us.
01:16Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro denounced the United States foreign policy in the region,
01:20describing it as a violation of international law and an attack against all of humanity.
01:26The Venezuelan leader attributed this offensive to extremist right-wing forces in power in Washington.
01:32He denounced the resurgence of imperialist and colonialist sentiments that despise the peoples and their lives.
01:39The United States emphasized that the aggression is not only against his government or against Venezuela,
01:43but that it is an offensive directed against all of Latin America and the Caribbean, and ultimately against humanity.
01:51With this denunciation, Venezuela seeks to alert the international community to what it considers as an existential threat to the public law system
01:58and peaceful coexistence among nations.
02:01During his speech at the international jurist conference, Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro called the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean
02:13to unite in the struggle against what he described as the empire of the evil.
02:17We have to cultivate the consciousness and the permanent rebelliousness of the people and of everyone.
02:25If we all rebel against the empire of evil and the Nazis, who can take us?
02:32We Christians have a saying that says that if God is with us, who is against us?
02:37And I am a revolutionary, and I say that if all of the conscious people of this Americas rebelled against imperialism
02:45and its attempt of bringing a war, who can take us?
02:51For its part, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America, People's Trade Treaty,
02:56denounced the aggressive escalation of the United States against Venezuela.
03:00In a statement, the organization denounced,
03:02The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America categorically condemns the recent offensive escalation
03:07of hostile and provocative statements issued by spokespeople throughout the United States government
03:13against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
03:15These are discredited figures without moral authority who resort to religious falsehoods and pretexts
03:22in an attempt to create a scenario that our people already know all too well.
03:27Also, the Alba TCP ruled.
03:29The alliance clearly warns,
03:31If the United States dares to take a leap from psychological and media operations
03:35to reckless military movement of aggression against Venezuela,
03:39the entire Caribbean could enter into unprecedented destabilization.
03:44No power must threaten regional peace or underestimate the conscience of our people.
03:49Finally, it retreated.
03:51The Bolivarian Alliance reaffirms its full support for the people and government of Venezuela
03:55and condemns this new media aggression and misinformation campaign,
03:59which only reflects the political decline of those who promote it.
04:03Our peoples will not be fooled by anti-threats or despicable rhetoric.
04:07Also in Venezuela, the third Turquía 2025 Expo Fair is moving forward,
04:19with its participation of more than 40 companies that are strengthening Turkish-Venezuelan cooperation.
04:25The event is being held to mark 75 years of diplomatic relations between Turquía and Venezuela,
04:30and is highlighted as a key venue for investors to meet.
04:34Also at the fair, participants have exhibited and promoted culture
04:37and projected joint development between the two nations.
04:41It is worth noting that this meeting will take place
04:44at the Simón Bolívar Park Convention Center in La Carlota, Miranda State,
04:48until next Saturday, November 15th.
04:50In a new threat against the Latin American and the Caribbean,
04:59Clinidad and Tobago has announced that U.S. Marines will be deployed
05:02to conduct military exercises as Washington increases naval positions in the Caribbean.
05:08Under the pretext of combating gang violence and gun crime,
05:11the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit will remain in the country until November 21st.
05:17The maneuvers will include night operations in urban or rural areas,
05:22raising concerns about the normalization of foreign troops in citizens' daily lives.
05:26The deployment on land is happening at the same time as the arrival of USS General R. Ford,
05:32the world's largest aircraft carrier, as part of the Pentagon's operations Southern Spear.
05:37These actions violate international law
05:39and threaten the declaration of Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace.
05:47Also, in a statement, the network of intellectuals and artists in defense of humanity
05:58denounces the aggressions being carried out in the Caribbean Sea by the United States government.
06:03We condemn and alert the international community to a new escalation by U.S. government
06:07with the dispatch of the aircraft carrier, General R. Ford,
06:11which joins the military forces already present,
06:14announcing the implementation of the Operation Southern Spear plan,
06:18under the baseless pretext of the fight against drug trafficking.
06:22Let us denounce that this military escalation could turn into a military confrontation
06:27against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,
06:29which would bring about a massacre and geopolitical destabilization
06:33in the American continent and the world.
06:35In turn, through a communique, Casa de las Américas in Cuba denounce the military escalation
06:46by the U.S. government, which not only affects Venezuela,
06:49but also the self-determination and sovereignty of the peoples of the Americas and the Caribbean.
06:54It states that,
06:56Casa de las Américas denounce this escalation from the outset,
06:59aware that it is not only a danger to Venezuela,
07:02but also a slap in the face to the self-determination and sovereignty of our peoples.
07:07An action against any of the broader countries of the continent is a blow to all.
07:12While some focus on the images of General R. Ford as if it were a video game,
07:17those of us who have experienced imperial aggression and violence firsthand
07:21condemn the preamble to a very serious crime
07:24and call for international solidarity with the peoples of the region.
07:32And now we have a short break coming up.
07:34But first, remember to join us on TikTok and tell us what English,
07:37where you will find news in the form formats, news updates and more.
07:40We'll be right back. Stay with us.
07:41Welcome back to From the South.
07:54In Chile, the electoral service conducted a national voting trial
07:58with the aim of familiarizing citizens with the elections process
08:02and head of the general elections to be held on Sunday.
08:05Election officials unveiled the new ballot
08:07that will be used in the presidential and parliamentary elections on November 16th.
08:12They also highlighted the size of the electoral roll,
08:15the obligation to vote, the participation of Chileans abroad
08:18and the role of the armed forces in guarding the material
08:21and maintaining public order.
08:23It should be noted that during these elections,
08:26Chileans will elect the president of the nation,
08:28new senators and members of the parliament.
08:30Meanwhile, in Argentina, an explosion occurred Friday night
08:44at a chemical factory in Ezeiza Industrial Park in Buenos Aires,
08:48spreading alarm among the residents of the area
08:50and leaving more than 20 injured.
08:52The shockwave shadowed glass windows in nearby houses
08:55and even blew roofs off
08:57while the Ezeiza Cañuelas Highway was also closed
09:00as a result of the incident.
09:02At this time, there are no reports of fatalities,
09:05but many hospitals in the area are receiving people
09:07with burns and other injuries caused by the tragic explosion.
09:11Local authorities order citizens to remain indoors,
09:15as a toxic cloud could form.
09:17The cause of deep loss has not yet been determined.
09:25With 60,000 people from around the world participating in COP30,
09:48there is a growing tension between business community supporters
09:51of green capitalism and the social movements and activists
09:54who support eco-socialism as the best way to fight climate change.
09:59Our correspondent, Brian Meir, has more details.
10:03Underway and Belen are trying to rally everyone
10:06behind a common fight against the climate crisis,
10:10but there seem to be unreconcilable differences
10:13among different participants.
10:15For example, there are businesses and foundations
10:17which they financially support
10:19who argue that corporations are capable of playing a leadership role
10:23in things like the transformation to renewable energy.
10:27Many activists disagree.
10:29Large corporations are in bed with governments
10:32so that they can take over these negotiations
10:34and use climate crisis as an opportunity
10:37to create more money and profit from all the actions.
10:41And we are seeing that instead of democratizing
10:45and decolonizing the energy systems,
10:48they are trying to take over.
10:49We are seeing the same big companies
10:51who have been responsible for the climate crisis.
10:54The big oil, they are now trying to turn green
10:57and take over these sectors.
10:59And that's something which is not acceptable.
11:01They are coming after our natural resources,
11:04our citric minerals,
11:05and they are trying to promote green capitalism.
11:07And that's what we need to fight against.
11:08For many of the estimated 30,000 members
11:11of the social movements, indigenous nations,
11:14and forest-dweller communities
11:15participating in the Alternative People's Summit
11:18underway at Pará Federal University across town,
11:22the most effective way to end environmental devastation
11:25is through the transformation to socialism.
11:28The environmental crisis is an expression
11:33of the destructive and predatory mode
11:35of production of capitalism.
11:38And, in our perspective,
11:40our perspective is that the fight against
11:42the environmental crisis
11:43and the fight for another project for society
11:46demands a radical transformation
11:51in the mode of production
11:52and distribution of wealth in our country.
11:54So, we defend the socialization of our wealth
12:00and we defend another form of the production
12:03and reproduction of life.
12:04It's another form of production and reproduction of life.
12:07If there's one thing that most participants
12:09of COP30 and the People's Summit
12:12seem to agree on, however,
12:13it's that the climate change crisis is a reality
12:16and huge changes will be needed to curtail it.
12:20Brian Muir, TELASUR, Belen.
12:23In Sao Paulo, Brazil,
12:26an explosion occurred
12:27at an illegal fireworks storage facility
12:29east of the city.
12:30The accident took place
12:31in Tatuaba, a neighborhood,
12:33with at least one fatality
12:34and nearly 10 injured.
12:36Fire departments, police
12:37and emergency services report
12:39that the explosion caused
12:40residential buildings to collapse
12:42and vehicles were also damaged,
12:44leading to the temporary closure of roads.
12:47Authorities indicate
12:48that the stored fireworks
12:49were intended for the manufacturing
12:52of balloons
12:53and an investigation has been launched
12:55to determine the causes of the accident.
13:06In other news,
13:07over 13.9 billion voters in Ecuador
13:10are called to vote in the referendum
13:11to be held next Sunday, November 16th.
13:14President Daniel Noah's referendum
13:16asked a way to vote
13:17on the establishment of a constituent assembly
13:20to draft a new constitution
13:21to replace the one approved
13:23during the term of former president
13:24Rafael Correa
13:25from 2007 to 2017.
13:28The other three questions
13:30are about the reinstatement
13:31of foreign military bases,
13:33the elimination of public funding
13:34for political organizations,
13:35and the reduction of assembly members
13:38from 151 to 73.
13:41The referendum follows
13:42the initial strike
13:43from September to October 2025.
13:46The government heavily repressed this strike,
13:49leaving at least three dead,
13:50over 470 injured
13:52and hundreds of reports
13:53of human rights violations
13:54by security forces.
13:55Moving now to Cuba,
14:07President Miguel Díaz-Canel
14:08personally oversaw recovery efforts
14:10in Granma province,
14:11one of the areas
14:12hardest hit by the hurricane Melissa.
14:14The Cuban president
14:15visited the municipality of Rio Cauto
14:17in the eastern province of Granma
14:19to assess damage caused
14:20by hurricane Melissa
14:21after the severe flooding
14:23left by the weather phenomenon
14:24as it passed over the island.
14:26This is the third visit
14:27by the head of state
14:28to the region
14:29to assess the progress
14:30made in the rehabilitation
14:32of housing,
14:34infrastructure
14:35and basic services.
14:37During his tour,
14:38Díaz-Canel spoke
14:39with affected families
14:40and instructed local authorities
14:41to speed up the delivery
14:43of resources
14:43to ensure the vitality of the area.

16:20is an armed conflict
16:22over resources
16:23and raw materials
16:24in which the international community
16:26must take action.
16:27This time was made
16:28at a special session

17:46a concrete wall
17:48in the area
17:48and is threatening

18:58The resolution comes
