00:00Forrest Galante
00:30Wildlife expert and conservationist
00:34And I'm here to take you on a journey
00:39To a place you've probably never heard of
00:43Because until now
00:46It has been kept a secret
00:48It is unmatched by any other place on earth
00:55For those lucky enough to make it here
00:57It is a refuge
00:59A sanctuary
01:01A place to live their lives in safety and in peace
01:05In a world that has forgotten the importance of nature
01:12A new Eden has been born
01:15A place for animals to thrive
01:20Because this isn't a zoo
01:25This is an ark
01:29This is Ventara
01:35This is the world's largest animal rescue center
01:593,500 acres and still growing
02:05The state-of-the-art facility features a wide variety of biomes
02:12From tropical forests
02:15To sub-Antarctic islands
02:19This means Ventara will have the right home for any animal in need
02:25Anywhere in the world
02:28At any time
02:30One of the world's leading rhino vets
02:51Dr. Samsool Ali
02:53Is welcoming a very young resident to Ventara tonight
02:57Hello you adorable little one
03:02Look at this
03:03Here is our baby little orphan
03:06Indian greater one-horned rhino
03:08She has just had a very stressful trip
03:11She's nervous
03:12She's tired
03:13Very, very confused
03:15But soon
03:16We'll move this little orphan
03:17Into her new home
03:18To join a herd of rhino here
03:20And live out her days
03:22In happiness
03:22Instead of in a terrible conditions
03:25Hey buddy
03:31Uh oh
03:34Looks like I'm going west
03:36You'll be okay
03:41I know it's scary
03:42But you'll be alright
03:43Let's go let him out
04:01Let's go let him out
04:11It's okay sweetie
04:23This baby Indian one-horned rhino
04:26Was just over a week old
04:28When her mother died
04:29In a nearby zoo
04:30Now
04:31Dr. Ali will make it his job
04:34To raise this orphan
04:35Into an adult
04:36Her name is Gowri
04:37Gowri means
04:39She's a
04:40Shakti goddess
04:41So this is her night self
04:43This is the night self
04:44It started in
04:47Last year
04:47When her mother died
04:49An acute death
04:49It was a very unfortunate
04:51To be leaving her
04:52Ten days old
04:52And
04:54When I hear that
04:55My heart also broke
04:56That a cough is now lonely
04:57Now
05:00Truly I can take care of her
05:02With my own hands
05:03In Vantara
05:04It's sad
05:09But instead of looking back
05:11To a dark history
05:12We're looking forward
05:14To a very bright future
05:15Since my childhood
05:17Me and my brother
05:18Always we are very interested
05:19In wildlife
05:20He took another way
05:22But I wanted to become
05:23A wildlife veterinarian
05:24Gowri will spend
05:29The next few months
05:30In a temporary
05:30Quarantine enclosure
05:31Under Dr. Ali's
05:33Close observation
05:34Hopefully
05:35Gowri now has a shot
05:37At a new life
05:38Gowri isn't the only
05:41New arrival
05:42Spending time in quarantine
05:43Most animals
05:45That arrive at Vantara
05:46Are housed here temporarily
05:47The enclosures
05:50Might not look pretty
05:51But they're specially designed
05:53For the animal's safety
05:54Comfort
05:55And health
05:56Today
05:57The head quarantine
05:58Veterinarian
05:59Is conducting a checkup
06:00On an animal
06:01That is recovering
06:02From an illness
06:03After being rescued
06:04From a closed zoo
06:05Look at this guy
06:06Sloth bear
06:07Yeah
06:08Hey buddy
06:08Hi doctor
06:14How are you doing?
06:15Yes I'm doing good
06:16Look at that tongue
06:17Going in the honey jar
06:18Yes
06:18What are you feeding him for?
06:20We want to observe them
06:21On a regular basis
06:22So this particular guy
06:23He has TB
06:25TB as in tuberculosis
06:27Tuberculosis
06:28He's literally breathing
06:29On you right now
06:30Now he's literally
06:32Almost cured of TB
06:34We've been putting him
06:35On TB medications regularly
06:36So he's not contagious
06:38He's not contagious
06:38Thank goodness
06:39You guys seem very calm
06:40For being around tuberculosis
06:43Generally when you look
06:44At a bear
06:45They're very active animals
06:46They like to
06:47Play around with things
06:48They like to dig around
06:49They're very restless
06:50So when you see an animal
06:52Which is a little dull
06:53Who gets tired
06:54With doing something
06:55That is when our suspicion
06:56Starts
06:57We took the animal
06:59For a CT scan
07:00And an MRI
07:01So we get to know
07:02That his lungs
07:03Were quite infected
07:04Our work starts from there
07:06So he must have come
07:08From a captive facility
07:09Right?
07:10Yeah
07:10They didn't know
07:11That he had TB
07:12Oh
07:13So he's literally
07:14Why you bring animals
07:15Into quarantine
07:16So they didn't even know
07:17That he had tuberculosis
07:18This
07:19And you found that out
07:21When he arrived here
07:22Yeah
07:23So how long
07:24Until he's cured
07:25To the point
07:25That he
07:26He's literally slurping
07:30The honey out
07:31These guys suck the termites
07:32Out from the ground
07:33So that's what he's trying
07:34To do here
07:34That's what he's trying to do
07:35The quarantine centers
07:37Generally are very small
07:38This is main reason
07:39Because we have to
07:40Look at the animal
07:41We have to observe the animal
07:43And we need to catch
07:44If the animal is falling ill
07:46Very fast
07:46The animal also
07:48Is in a very stressful condition
07:50So to minimize the stress
07:52Of these animals
07:53We need to keep them
07:54Occupied throughout the day
07:55Otherwise they get bored
07:56Which is again
07:57A form of stress
07:58He's probably got to test
08:00Negative for several months
08:01Yeah
08:02Where is he in that journey currently?
08:04He's about two months
08:06Two to three months now
08:07Of negative?
08:08Negative
08:08So pretty soon
08:09He will actually get moved
08:10Yes
08:11And then he gets socialized
08:12That's what you do, right?
08:13Yes
08:14He just sneezed on me
08:15Well, I have tuberculosis now
08:16Well, let's give him
08:19A little more honey here
08:20If I give him much more
08:22He's going to get the runs
08:23I think
08:23Yeah
08:24So I'll give that to you
08:25Thank you
08:26And hey, big guy
08:27I hope you get better
08:28Okay?
08:29Get better
08:30Whoa, scary
08:32All right
08:33Thank you, doctor
08:34Thank you so much
08:35Thank you, honey
08:35Although this sloth bear
08:39Has tested negative for TB
08:40He will remain in quarantine
08:43A little longer
08:44Just to be sure
08:45This level of caution
08:47Might seem isolating
08:48But it serves an important purpose
08:50If an animal has an infectious disease
08:53That could cause serious problems
08:55For other animals
08:56And even humans
08:57Fortunately at Ventara
08:59Animal enrichment
09:01Is a top priority
09:02Especially for predators
09:04Big
09:05And small
09:06Let's see what she thinks of this
09:10Get it
09:13Get it
09:14Get it
09:15Get it
09:15As its name suggests
09:17This fishing cat
09:18Spends its days hunting for fish
09:20Oh, she's not so sure
09:22But boredom can take a toll
09:24On its mental health
09:25So I've come up with a plan
09:27To keep its hunting instincts occupied
09:29Come on
09:30Here she comes
09:32They're trying this silly little kid's toy
09:44This robo shark
09:45That I brought from home
09:46But for her
09:47It's enrichment
09:49Look at that
09:49She's killing it
09:51How cool is that?
09:52Oh, she literally murdered it
09:54That might be my favorite bit of cat enrichment we've ever done
10:16Super fun to be able to come here
10:18Bring these weird toys from the United States
10:20And get to enrich the lives of many of these incredible cats
10:24That most people don't even know exist
10:26You enjoy that, girly
10:29Fun and games are all part of life here at Ventara
10:37But some residents
10:38Like this pair of harpy eagles
10:40Need a little recuperation before the games begin
10:43Take a look at this
10:49In here is one of the most incredible birds of prey in the world
10:52The second largest bird of prey
10:54The harpy eagle
10:56These two are juveniles
10:58But don't be fooled
10:59Their massive size
11:01Is indicative of their destructive capabilities
11:04Which is that they can swoop down
11:06And will take a full-grown sloth
11:08A giant howler monkey
11:09Anything right out of the trees
11:11But what's crazy about these two
11:13Is their backstory
11:14And the Ventara team heard about this story
11:17Of two baby harpies
11:19That had been breaking into a chicken coop
11:22And killing a woman's chickens
11:23What did she do?
11:24She took a shotgun
11:25Blasted them both
11:26But because they're such big substantial birds
11:29It didn't kill either one of them
11:30So Ajan and his team over here
11:33They scooped them up
11:34And they brought them back here
11:36But in order to see
11:37If all the extraction
11:38Of the lead
11:39And all the damage that they sustained
11:41Is working
11:42What we have to do
11:43Is get a weight on these guys
11:44Set the scale up right here
11:47It's down to zero
11:49What weight are we hoping
11:50They've gained, Ajan?
11:56What were they
11:57When they first came here
11:58To Ventara?
12:00Okay, so they were
12:01Three and a half-ish kilos
12:02When they got here
12:03And we're hoping
12:04That they've come up to five kilos
12:06How big will they be at adulthood?
12:07If everything goes well
12:09Maybe around 9.5 kilos
12:119.5 kilos
12:12That's a 20 plus pound bird
12:14With a giant wingspan
12:15And these incredible talons
12:16Let's see if we can get them
12:20On the scale, okay?
12:24So we're just gonna back out
12:26Now that we've set up the scale
12:27We've put a little rabbit on them
12:28And we're gonna hope
12:29That they come down
12:30And give us their weight
12:31And I'm actually gonna use
12:32My cameraman, James, over here
12:34You're gonna need to zoom in
12:35With your lens
12:36And tell us what that weight is, okay?
12:37Alright
12:37There we go
12:38I think he's on the bridge
13:08Oh, perfect
13:14He's on the bridge
13:15Very cute
13:15What's the weight?
13:175.5 kilos
13:195.5 kilos
13:21So that means
13:22Everything is working
13:23The treatment is kicking in
13:25He's gaining weight
13:26And now he's gonna double in size
13:28To become one of the most
13:29Magnificent birds of prey
13:30In the world
13:31So we'll let him just enjoy his meal
13:33John will go get his scale
13:34All things are looking good
13:36Anad Ambani started Ventara in 2019
13:58After a lifetime passion for animals
14:00In his words
14:03The longer it takes us to build an enclosure
14:06The longer an animal is suffering
14:08But even today
14:13Construction continues within the preserve
14:16And the staff at Ventara
14:18Have come upon
14:19One of their biggest challenges yet
14:21Building a habitat
14:23In the sweltering Indian climate
14:25For penguins
14:26Raj, it's over 100 degrees out
14:29And you have penguins coming
14:30How are you using all these chillers
14:32To keep the water cold?
14:33This is the challenge we face
14:35On all the cold water species here
14:37The temperature here
14:39In this part of the world
14:40Is, you know, always hot
14:41Then it's going to be much hotter
14:42So we're all prepared
14:43We have chillers
14:44To continuously chill the water
14:46To about 12 degrees Celsius
14:48Oh, that's cold
14:48So here what we do is
14:50We keep something in standby
14:52Yeah
14:52So we have two chillers
14:53To share the load
14:54Yeah, to share the load
14:55And also if at any point in time
14:57There is a problem with one chiller
14:59And it needs to get serviced
15:00We have a backup and a standby
15:02They said we have to get this ready
15:04In a week's time
15:05It is a very short time
15:07But yes, when you have the right team
15:09And the right people
15:09With the right mindset
15:11Okay
15:12Things are achievable
15:14Not a problem
15:14What is that mindset?
15:16The mindset is
15:16Let's put the animals first
15:18Then you
15:20Very simple
15:21So you have redundancy
15:22Upon redundancy
15:23Upon redundancy
15:24Upon redundancy
15:25That's right
15:25We don't want to take a chance here at all
15:27No way
15:28And that's what we
15:29You know, try to do here
15:30For the penguins
15:31Now it is a peak summer
15:33And in India
15:35Summers are a bit higher
15:37They're used to the Pacific's cold currents
15:40And it is very important
15:42To give them the similar kind of environment
15:44So that the animal
15:45Gets the utmost care
15:46When it gets too hot here
15:49They just take a walk inside
15:51To this room
15:51We have an arctic chiller room here
15:54So in the mid-afternoons
15:57It could reach up to 40-45 degrees Celsius
15:59Okay
16:00And that is very hot for the penguins
16:02So we have air-conditioned
16:05You know
16:05It's Antarctica in here
16:07It's cold
16:07It's white
16:08It's bleak
16:09Just like penguins like
16:10They can come here
16:11They can chill
16:11And then when the temperature again goes down
16:14They take a walk
16:15And they go back to swell
16:16They can chill
16:20Rehabilitation is a long procedure
16:23It doesn't happen like that
16:25I don't know exactly the future
16:28What is going to happen
16:29I'm sure they have a bright future
16:32While Mr. Raju and his team
16:43Wait for the penguins to arrive
16:44I'm paying a visit to some old friends
16:47A mother elephant and her calf
16:51That were recently rescued
16:52From an abusive logging operation
16:54Now that they're safe
16:57The next step of their rehabilitation begins
17:00Mental stimulation
17:01So I brought some enrichment toys
17:04For both of them
17:05I know, you're cheeky, I know
17:18Whoa, so cheeky
17:20This is life now
17:22Nobody's going to hurt you here
17:24So these guys are very excited
17:28For these ball treats
17:30See if you can get it
17:33There's fruit in there
17:38So we unloaded Maya here
17:43With her mother
17:43And when she came here
17:45She was violent
17:46She was so panicky
17:47Life was tough
17:48It's nice to see how her temperament
17:50Has settled down
17:51Now that Maya isn't being abused
17:54She's starting to relax
17:55And so we've given her a toy
17:57So we brought her some balls
17:59Stuffed them with fruit
18:00I still don't trust her
18:01Which is why I need to move back
18:02No, no, no, no
18:03Go on, have a dig at it
18:07Oh, you're not going to fit in there
18:09Oh, no, mom's totally crushed that one
18:15Look at that
18:15Oops
18:17Uh-oh, oh, no, mom, no
18:23There's a GoPro in there
18:24Oh, no, no
18:28Yeah, I'm afraid
18:34That doesn't bode well for our camera
18:35Okay, I think that's the end of that in Richmond
18:41Let's try something else
18:42Come on
18:44Look, the pool's here
18:46Look, come on
18:49Look at all this fruit
18:51You can go for a nice swim
18:52Come on, come on
18:53Come on
18:54Look, here comes mama
18:56Look
18:57I know
18:58Good girl
19:00Look, right there
19:01Okay, there, right there
19:02Don't get angry at me
19:03There's a girl
19:05Look how fun this is
19:10You can have a swim in the pool
19:11Now she gets toys, balls
19:14She has a swimming pool to learn how to swim
19:16And she's definitely going to take my shoes
19:19Hi
19:20Uh-uh, my shoes
19:21My shoes
19:22Whoop
19:23Had she not come here
19:26She'd never get access to a pool like this
19:29She'd never get access to toys
19:30She would just be chained up, tied up
19:32Put into the logging industry or the circus industry
19:35And now she's just learning how to do the things that an elephant should be doing
19:40To deal with so many species of animals
19:54Ventara has brought in experts from all over the world
19:58To keep the animals healthy
20:00And to enrich their lives
20:01It's a forest
20:05Oh, God
20:07Here we have a young Papuan Taipan
20:09Dr. Ajay Kartik has spent his life working with reptiles
20:19Particularly venomous snakes
20:21Extremely rare and extremely, extremely dangerous
20:25They kill dozens of people in Papua New Guinea every year
20:28They're very quick to strike, very aggressive
20:30We have to assist feed this animal
20:32We have a few of these PNG Taipans
20:42But this particular individual is not a great feeder
20:44So in order to make sure he's got the best shot of survival
20:48We oftentimes have to assist feed this animal
20:51I'll do the pinning
20:53But I would be grateful if you could help me
20:55Certainly
20:56So it's an exercise we do with the utmost caution
20:59Certainly
21:00A Papuan Taipan is one of the most dangerous snake species in the world
21:04It's found in Papua New Guinea
21:06And it's responsible for the most snakebite deaths every year in that country
21:09The way we see it, it's not really risking our own life for the animal
21:13It's just, it's a species that could use our help and we have the skills to be able to help it
21:18Then why not?
21:19We're happy to do this for any animal that needs it
21:22So I'll try and see if I can get a quick hold on the back of our friend's head here
21:26A snake typically wouldn't eat normally for one of several reasons
21:34One could be just the stress of transit
21:37Or maybe the snake's not in the appropriate environmental conditions
21:42And finally, of course, it might be an indication of some larger illness that the animal has
21:47Just gonna take our little pinky here
21:50Wow, I see why you have to force feed them
21:54I mean, this is crazy
21:55Yeah, sometimes they're just extremely stubborn
21:57Yeah, like that
21:59Right from the front and then pinch it on both sides
22:02Further down?
22:03Further down
22:04Look at that
22:05Split them out, pull them out a little bit
22:09And yes
22:10Gently down the sides again and push it in
22:13Further
22:14Should I put my finger in there or no?
22:20Depends on how bored of life you are
22:22Yeah
22:23So another thing we generally do is squeeze it down the throat
22:26Just so it gets to a point where the snake can't regurgitate anymore
22:29You do the massaging, right, to bring it all the way down
22:31Yes
22:32And even though it's a dangerous snake
22:34This exercise is something that's absolutely essential to keep the snake healthy and happy
22:39From when I was a child I was weirdly obsessed with reptiles
22:43Always had a soft spot for snakes and lizards and crocodiles
22:46Because, you know, most people didn't like them
22:49But, you know, it's a childhood thing
22:51I've always loved reptiles, always will
22:53So over time after this is done about a few times
22:56We are quite sure that this chap will start feeding on its own
22:59Any idea where this one came from?
23:00I believe this one was seized from a private collection
23:03In India?
23:04No, from overseas
23:06Overseas, wow
23:07Crazy
23:08Beautiful snake, can I touch him?
23:09Yes
23:10Never touched a Papua and Taipan before
23:11Wow, look at the coloration
23:12Woo!
23:13It's very beautiful
23:14Deadly but very, very beautiful
23:16It's always humbling to be inches away from one of the deadliest snakes on the planet
23:27But sometimes it's nice to visit an animal that's more frolic than fangs
23:32Today at Ventara we're going to be trying something really interesting
23:35We're taking a look at these beautiful rescued South American tapirs that came all the way from Venezuela
23:41But these guys are young and they love to play
23:44And at dusk they like to head out into their paddock and have a swim and have a romp around
23:48So today I'm going to try and get a dog harness on one of these juvenile tapirs
23:54And then let them out and see if we can get a really unique look and perspective at giant tapir play
24:01Hi you beautiful little thing, you're so sweet
24:03Okay, so that goes like that
24:09Well that was easier than expected
24:14You really like my beard
24:17This is a very funny thing
24:21There we go, look at that
24:23These guys are closely related to rhinos
24:26They're basically South America's version of a rhinoceros
24:29Which is crazy because if you think about eating a rhino
24:32It seems like an absolutely insane proposition
24:34But they're heavily hunted for meat markets
24:37And this is a whole herd of just beautiful friendly babies that I adore
24:42Alright, you ready to go have some fun?
24:44I love you, yes I do
24:47Come on guys, come on, come on, come on
24:51There she goes
24:55Whoops
24:56Go play
24:57Go play, go play, go on
24:59Look at them all
25:01Look at them all
25:02They're so much fun
25:04You want to go in the water with your friends?
25:18Awesome
25:21Awesome
25:27Yes
25:28Yes, that's all I wanted
25:30This is so cool
25:35This is so cool
25:47So I believe that our tapir vision cameras were a success
25:50I think this is the first time in history
25:52Anybody has ever put a dog harness on a juvenile tapir
25:55Look, that's what was on your back
25:58Isn't that funny? Look, we'll get a selfie
26:00Tapir selfie
26:01No, no, you're not done
26:04What?
26:05You've got to get those other two
26:06I'm not getting those cameras
26:08Oh yeah
26:09You made it
26:10Look at the amount of poop in there
26:12Tapirs tend to defecate in the water to mask their scent from predators
26:17And while these pools are cleaned daily, they haven't started cleaning this one yet
26:21Alright, I'm doing it
26:22We've got to get our cameras back
26:24Oh, this is...
26:27This is...
26:28Uh...
26:29This was not on the schedule for today
26:39Oh boy, these guys are laughing at me
26:42Three, two, one
26:46I didn't need to go all the way under, why did I do that?
26:56Alright, I think we're done for today
27:03Come on
27:04Big, big day here at Ventara because the penguins have finally arrived
27:24Seven beautiful, humble penguins rescued from Dubai
27:27Yeah, guys, everybody's come out to see them
27:29It's really exciting because there have never before been penguins here at Ventara
27:34So nobody's even seen them yet except for the rescue team
27:37And going inside, releasing these guys into their brand new forever home
27:42Is going to be so awesome
27:44Come on, little guy
27:45Here we go
27:46Hello
27:47Welcome home
27:48Come on
27:49There he is
27:50Woohoo
27:51Look at that, everybody's so excited
28:05We were all excited, so excited that we're getting penguins
28:10They're the first batch of penguins that are coming to Ventara
28:13They were rescued from pet trade
28:16Let's get the other ones, okay, guys?
28:18Let's bring more boxes
28:19So they have gone through things that they have never expected in their lifetimes
28:24But then when you give them the right things they need
28:27They come out of it, they feel, oh, this is something different
28:31This is how I want them
28:32And we can see that in the behavior of the animals
28:35Let's just back off and give them a little space
28:38Yay, there he goes
28:41There he goes
28:42All right
28:43Go find your buddy
28:44That'll work right there
28:45There you go, come on out
28:49Come on
28:50There you go
28:51Come on
28:52There you go
28:53Come on
28:54Come on
28:55There you go
28:56Rehabilitation of any animal, rescue and rehabilitation is a milestone, you know, achieved
29:07When you get a distressed animal under your car and then they're doing well
29:12Each day is, you know, their progress gives you so much happiness
29:16So here we go, the very last of seven humble penguins heading out into his new home
29:32Come on
29:33Come on, buddy
29:34Come on
29:35It's okay
29:36And look at that
29:38There he goes
29:39Heading off to join his friends
29:41Potentially the first time in his life getting to see proper chilled salt water in a proper enclosure where they can be happy
29:50Let's see
29:51Yep, typical penguins straight into feeding, happy as can be and what an amazing story it is to see these guys go through what they've been through and come here and have this entire thing built for them in under a week and now just like that they're playing, they're feeding and they are happy. See you guys.
30:13It is natural for humans to keep pets
30:31After all, we have evolved alongside and domesticated several species
30:36The rise in social media, however, has started to change our relationship
30:41Wild, undomesticated animals are often used as status symbols and that can cause problems
30:49Oh, I've got a head right by my hand. I hope he doesn't bite me through the bag
30:56One, two, three, one
30:58Let's see what we've got here
31:02Is that big?
31:03Oh, it's pretty big
31:04The weight I can see, that's a big one
31:06That's a big snake
31:07Watch your hands, I don't know where his head is
31:09I don't know about their temperament
31:11Let's see
31:13Okay
31:14So this is a big beautiful
31:16Oh wow, what a color
31:17Did you know it was an albino?
31:18No
31:22Oh wow, that's a big one
31:23Watch his head there
31:24Just pull, pull, pull
31:25That's a big snake
31:26That's a big boy
31:27Oh, beautiful
31:29Oh wow
31:30Why is it a problem to keep a wild animal as a pet?
31:34You see the name itself indicates wild animals
31:37Wild animals play a very important role in the ecosystem
31:40It's all complete chain, they are a part of food cycle
31:44No matter how big it is or how small it is
31:46Even a small fly can play an important part in maintaining the whole ecosystem
31:51But if you disturb that thing, the whole ecosystem might collapse
31:55Pet red is the biggest black market in the world after drugs
32:00So this is causing a lot of animals getting extinct from the wild
32:04But sitting at somebody's home
32:07We have two snakes
32:09There's one more
32:10Oh my goodness
32:12This is awesome
32:13Let's see what this one is
32:14This one also
32:17Oh cool
32:18This is like a tiger
32:19Don't they call it like a tiger or something?
32:21This is what the regular mops look like
32:24You can't make this color in the wild?
32:25Not at all
32:26No
32:27And they would not even survive in the wild
32:28So do you think they're being smuggled or sold illegally or who knows?
32:32Reptals are the easiest thing in the pet trade to smuggle
32:35Yeah, true
32:37You can see for us the head to body ratio is very messed up
32:42It tells us about that these animals will power fit
32:45So the breeders in order to get high value of these animals, they power feed them
32:50Power feeding means giving them less space to move and feeding them more and more time to time
32:56In order to get the snake bulkier and heavier
32:59So the more bulkier the animal, the more heavier, the more bigger the animal is, the more money you can get
33:05These animals had a lot of trauma and we have received a lot of animals with respiratory infections
33:11And intestinal issues as well
33:14Alright, you hold that one
33:15Yep
33:16It seems alright
33:17I'm gonna get this one over here, this huge one
33:20How's he look?
33:21Wow
33:22Also power fed?
33:23Yeah?
33:24Yeah
33:25You see how wide the head is?
33:26Yeah
33:27And you see how wide the body is?
33:28Yeah
33:29Vantara plays a crucial role in all the rescued animals' life
33:33We want to give them the best life we can
33:36They need proper temperature, they need proper humidity, they need proper grow lights
33:40If they feel too hot, they have given water pools as well
33:43So it's all about provisions, it's all about how can you enrich their life
33:46But in particular to these Burmese Phythons, for sure they'll get a better life in Vantara
33:53Gives a feeling of accomplishment, completeness, inner peace, tranquility, relaxation
33:59Any good feeling present in this world is felt by us when we rehabilitate these animals
34:05And so now they go from probably living in a tiny little box in somebody's house or collection
34:11To having this huge enclosure
34:13Definitely
34:14I don't necessarily think that snakes experience happiness the way that we do
34:19But I think they know the difference between being able to stretch out their bodies and be free roaming
34:25Versus spending their life stuck in a box
34:27I don't care what being you are, I don't even care if you're a house plant
34:30If you spend your life stuck in a tiny box, you're confined, you're restricted, your muscles atrophy, your mental health declines
34:37When you get to stretch out and be a snake, smell new smells, climb, dig, all the things that snakes do in the wild
34:43You're a happier snake
34:46They've really hit the jackpot
34:48I love them
34:49Good stuff man, that's awesome, that's awesome buddy
34:51That's great
34:52That's super cool
34:53Let's leave them
34:54Alright
34:55Let them enjoy
35:07Many of the animals that make it to Ventara have led lives of abuse and misery
35:13Some have been kept in such awful conditions that their feet have never even touched grass before
35:23Loki and Luna were rescued from a circus in Mexico, where they were expected to perform
35:28It might have looked fun to the audience who came to see them, but the reality for intelligent animals like brown bears is often a life of physical and mental abuse
35:42Which leaves them with both behavioral and medical problems
35:46And while circus bears cannot be returned to the wild, Ventara can offer the next closest thing
35:52You see that? I just got tasted
35:54Yeah
35:55So this is a male-female pair
35:57Yeah
35:58And did they come here together? Were they rescued?
36:00No, when they came here we kept them separately
36:03We completed their quarantine period
36:05And we tried to socialize them step by step and now they are together
36:10So they come in, they go into quarantine
36:13Yes
36:14But with any animal, it doesn't matter if you're a bear or an elephant or a mouse, you can't just shove them together
36:20No
36:21So what happens after quarantine?
36:22So they're the step by step
36:24First of all, what we do, we try to keep them in the two different night cells so that they can see each other
36:29This one wants to French kiss me over here
36:31Then second step is what we do, we try to interchange their fecal and urine matter slightly to change so that the smell
36:37What you're saying is, I take bear poop from here and I put it with this guy and I take bear pee from here and I mix it with this girl
36:44That's what you're saying
36:45Yeah, slightly
36:46That's what you're saying
36:47Exactly
36:48And the third step is we bring them together adjacent to two night cells
36:51So from there they can sniff very easily and that is a safe place to interact
36:56Because those two animals can take smell off each other and from that we go ahead
37:03I'm fortunate enough to be here on the day when the former circus bears, Loki and Luna, are officially introduced to their new home
37:25Okay bears, here we go
37:28There they come, there they come
37:33Look at that, they get bolting out
37:36The main idea behind creating this enclosure is to provide ample amount of space to animals where they can do their natural activity
37:47We do four to five different types of enrichment so that animal can show his natural behaviour in the open environment
37:54I thought they will sniff and they will come slowly and what's going on, but they are happy
37:59They want to explore everything, you see
38:01Yeah, it's all new
38:06Look at her
38:07Yeah
38:08Our cultures tell us to love animals
38:10You should take care of your surrounding like you take care of yourself
38:13Because you're the part of nature
38:15If you take care of surrounding, if you take care of those living creatures nearby you, then nature will take care of yourself
38:29Everyone needs food care and shelter
38:32Whenever they are happy, they are healthy, I am happy
38:35It really moves me to see those bears finally get to feel the grass beneath their feet
38:49And although it's not the freedom they deserve as wild animals
38:54It will allow them to live out their days feeling safe and being well looked after
38:59Oh, and let's not forget Gori
39:13She's finally settled in
39:15And I have the very special privilege of getting the chance to feed her
39:19It's been a few days since Gori came to us here at Ventara and she has settled in just beautifully
39:33She's loving life now, she's enjoying milk at an unbelievable rate
39:47And you can see the stress has gone and her life has improved massively
39:51Which is, it's just a beautiful thing to see, she's so much happier now
39:55She's so much happier now
40:01Good girl
40:03Good girl
40:05Good girl
40:06Good girl
40:07Good girl
40:08Good girl
40:09Good girl
40:10Good girl
40:11Good girl
40:12Good girl
40:14What makes facilities at Vantara so special is the intent
40:19It's a teamwork where we come together, we discuss together
40:24We ask each other, can we do something better?
40:27This is the place that makes things happen. That's all I can say
40:30As a human being, I think it is our moral responsibility to keep animals very happy and as much comfortable as they can.
40:40I think Gvantara is doing justice for all these animals.
40:43I've not seen this kind of care, special care, anywhere else in the world.
40:49And I'm, you know, I'm proud I'm here.
40:53I would describe this place as to be heaven.
40:56It is filled with everything that an animal can imagine about.
41:00This feeling, trust me, this will give you goosebumps.
41:04The animals we rescue, the number of species that are rescued here, it's all staggering.
41:09And I'm very grateful to be a part of all of the good work that the organization does.
41:14All the crazy ideas our team has, has implemented on ground.
41:19Anything which is beneficial for the animals gets done.
41:22And results are in front of us.
41:26I will never forget.
41:28It was a beautiful living book from the ages of legislatures there.
41:32You found希望, whether or not animals are contracted,
41:34It happens in a desert, that Keira said,
41:41to leaves us a totally positive reputation.
41:42So it helps a lot of those who are pake in the way.
41:46For that to go all the best future,
41:48that has been done.
41:50You have won the best Apollo program to seid.
