00:00There will be tears.
00:02That I guarantee.
00:03And it was surreal.
00:05It was tripped out, man.
00:06Brother, if I answered you, I am so gonna give something away.
00:10Guys, first and foremost, congratulations on five seasons of...
00:15Well, four seasons, and let's fingers cross the fifth one,
00:18of era-defining television.
00:21What sort of occasion are these kind of premieres and red carpets now for you guys?
00:25Do you kind of feel like you're at an after-party, at a wake?
00:28Do you have closure on this experience yet?
00:31I mean, right now, we were just talking to the cast last night.
00:34We love it because it allows us to be delusional that it's not ending,
00:38because we can all be together, you know?
00:40So every time we do something like this,
00:42it's just getting the gang back together,
00:44and we can all pretend like,
00:45oh, we'll see each other in a few more months and work on season six,
00:49even though we know that's not happening.
00:51So we love it, yeah.
00:52I could talk about the morning after, like the last day of the shoot,
00:56and how everything sort of sinks in.
00:58I guess for you guys, it'll be the last red carpet,
01:00or the last junket,
01:01the last flight you get away from the rest of the cast,
01:03they'll be like, wow, that's it now.
01:05We get to drag it out for a while,
01:07because all the way till New Year's Day,
01:09because the finale will be showing in some theaters on New Year's Day,
01:13so we're all going to go and experience that.
01:15So I don't know, if you ask,
01:16so we're okay up until New Year's Day.
01:18And then after that,
01:20we're getting some support.
01:21After that, we're all going to curl up in a ball and try.
01:25Talk about this season, guys.
01:28Has this felt particularly different?
01:30Because you launch something,
01:31and then there's the added pressure every year,
01:33and it's got to be just as good as the last one, et cetera.
01:36But when you can see the landing coming,
01:39do you feel like the excitement of the crescendo,
01:41or the pressure of, you know,
01:43not wanting to go out on a bum note?
01:45Well, yeah, we did feel a lot of pressure.
01:47I mean, there are obviously a lot of long-running shows
01:49that don't stick the landing.
01:51It doesn't mean any names.
01:53No, not never.
01:54But, you know, we felt,
01:56once we sort of cracked the final 10, 20 minutes of the show,
02:00once we knew what those were,
02:02then we started to feel calmer about everything else,
02:04because you could do 10 great hours of entertainment,
02:07and you mess up at the end,
02:08and no one will ever forgive you.
02:10So once we had that, we felt better going in.
02:13But you're still anxious and nervous,
02:15and, I mean, we'll see.
02:16We'll know shortly how people feel.
02:17I'm sure it's going to be absolutely fine.
02:19One thing they tell you in entertainment
02:20is never work with children or animals.
02:22You chose this cast years ago,
02:25and we don't always know that.
02:27They're all going to be great actors in a few years' time.
02:29They've developed into great people, great actors.
02:31Yes.
02:32So, so beloved around the world.
02:35How kind of proud are you guys of these guys?
02:38How's it feel to kind of let them fly off now into the world?
02:42Very proud.
02:43Very proud.
02:44I mean, they were all great kids,
02:46and they were all unbelievably talented.
02:49I mean, they were special.
02:50I mean, we knew that they were special at the time.
02:52Of course, we weren't expecting the show to become what it became
02:55in terms of how many people were watching it,
02:57and that's scary because they're very young age,
02:59and they're dealing with things that nobody else has to deal with.
03:02But so the fact that they've all made it through
03:05and become not more mature actors,
03:08but very, very good people is absolutely incredible.
03:11And no, I mean, we know how talented they are,
03:14and we're excited to see them go off and do different things.
03:19Like, we're, I was talking about this last night with some of us,
03:21like, we're stoked to see what they do next.
03:23And we know how good they are in these roles.
03:25I'm excited to see them do different things.
03:27And the really cool thing is that they all survived
03:29to the end of this, right?
03:30And no-
03:31No.
03:32Yeah, no-
03:33No, we'll see.
03:34We'll see.
03:35If anybody dies, it's only in, you know,
03:37it's in the world of Stranger Things.
03:39Absolutely.
03:40Well, congratulations, guys.
03:41Thank you so much for the entertainment over the years.
03:43Looking forward to the boroughs next year.
03:45Let's, uh, we'll catch you down the line.
03:46Yeah, thank you, man.
03:47Thanks so much.
03:48Mate, congratulations.
03:49Thank you so much.
03:50On four, and what I'm sure will be five.
03:51Yes.
03:52Amazing series of era-defining television.
03:55Every interview, every date, every set you sit on,
03:59meal you have, chat you have, probably until the day you die,
04:03someone is going to ask you about this show.
04:05How does that sit with you?
04:06I love it.
04:07It's, I put my life into this show for the past ten years of my existence.
04:12And, um, and I, and the reward is wonderful.
04:16Being here at this premiere with the fans,
04:18uh, I couldn't ask for anything better, honestly.
04:21It's a great, great opportunity.
04:23I'm super grateful, super humbled to just be, to know the cast,
04:27to know the Duffers, to be able to have the opportunity to audition
04:31and, uh, represent Lucas the, uh, the, the utmost, at the utmost.
04:35So, um, honestly, I'll talk about it forever.
04:38I'm, I'm happy.
04:39Glad to hear it, man.
04:40How different is that this season felt?
04:42Because having that kind of end game there, that end date,
04:45counting down the days, I've got one more day of playing this character
04:48and then he's gone from me forever.
04:50Yeah.
04:51Has that been kind of like a bit of an emotional weight on you guys?
04:54Is it just like the excitement of the crescendo of something coming to the end?
04:58A hundred percent.
04:59I think it's, um, it's something that I'm still trying to understand and fully fathom.
05:05Um, I've been a part of the show half my life and it's,
05:10it's part of something I've known more than not.
05:13And, um, it's, it's just like, it's just like,
05:18we finished last year and then, then I was told, okay,
05:22then we have to do press and then we're going to be around the cast.
05:24It's like, all right, cool.
05:25And then the show hasn't come out yet.
05:26And then there's the, there's the after, uh,
05:28the aftermath effect with the show being out.
05:31And, um, it's-
05:32So you guys got closer yet or are you kind of feeling like-
05:34It's weird.
05:35When the party, last party ends, that's it.
05:37Yeah.
05:38I think it's, I think I won't realize it maybe till like two years from now
05:41because it's been, it was 10 years of my life.
05:44It's not like it's gonna, yeah, it's just one of those things I don't really understand yet,
05:49but I, but I understand why it's ending.
05:51I feel like we wouldn't cherish the moment if it didn't end.
05:54Hmm.
05:55You know?
05:56Just wait till people start re-watching it every Christmas like Harry Potter and then-
05:58Oh, literally.
05:59Hole of the train.
06:00Hole of the train together, man.
06:01It's gonna be great.
06:02It's gonna go, it's gonna be trending one year and talked about, yeah.
06:05Okay, let's go.
06:06Congratulations, man.
06:07I've been thoroughly entertained for many years now.
06:08Please give it up.
06:09It's great to see it.
06:11I cannot wait to see what you guys have in store.
06:12I appreciate you.
06:13Yes, sir.
06:14Already.
06:15I sense my excitement from afar, I feel.
06:17Please give it up.
06:18I cannot tell you how many times I watched and re-watched Terminator 2 as I grew up.
06:24Like the last scene when you're at the gas station and you drive off into the sunset and the music descends is one of the most iconic scenes of all cinema.
06:32It is in my mind forever until the day I leave the surf.
06:37So for that, thank you very much.
06:38Oh, sweet.
06:39You have just joined for the crescendo of undoubtedly the biggest TV show in the world.
06:46How does that, how does that feel?
06:48I guess someone who's been around the box, you don't feel the same sort of pressure that these guys might be under to be like, we gotta get this right.
06:55In a way you feel more pressure, I think, as a fan and to make sure that I can insert myself seamlessly into it.
07:08It really did have a bit of a stress to it.
07:12Plus it went on forever before we started.
07:14It was like months before I could tell anyone and then months more because of the strikes and all that tension just builds up.
07:23You're like, when are we going to do this thing?
07:26And then it took a year to shoot.
07:28So I've been in for a while now.
07:30I guess it also, I guess there would be a lot of pressure because you feel like a gift to the audience.
07:36Because this show, a lot of the popularity is based on kind of that nostalgia of a decade that you kind of straddled.
07:43You sort of defined for a lot of people.
07:45Right.
07:46So I suppose it is feeling like, well, I hope they don't ruin Linda Hamilton because she's going to be great in this.
07:51What was it like to step into this family?
07:54Because these guys have really grown up together.
07:55Yes.
07:56Well, for one, they're a very beautiful family.
08:00You don't know that going in.
08:02But I was so welcomed and within a couple of days it felt like I'd been there forever.
08:09Yeah.
08:10Because that's how comfortable and the writing was good and, you know, it just, it was smooth.
08:18What was it like to kind of step back into that decade in a way?
08:23Because the detail of the sets and the clothes and the music, which is such a huge part of this.
08:28It must kind of feel like going through a time machine in a way, apart from all the monsters.
08:33But then again, your 80s had monsters in as well.
08:36I've always had monsters, that's for sure.
08:39I didn't, you know, looking back two decades later, I wasn't a big fan of the 80s.
08:46You know, I mean, I have pictures of myself looking so ridiculous with hair this big and, you know, I'm not a fan of the 80s, the vibe, the look.
08:59The vibe maybe, but, so, you know, I'm not the one to say, oh, the 80s, I'm glorifying them.
09:07Do you think it's one of those that we, you know, we listen to the music and we get a little bit roasted into spectacles.
09:12Everyone looks back at when they were younger or like their pictures of holidays growing up and they're like, oh, that was amazing.
09:17But you actually put them back there, they'd be like, wow, this sucks, where's the internet?
09:21Yeah, I don't get the charm with the 80s, but I guess I was in my prime then.
09:27You're still in your prime, Linda, don't worry about that.
09:29Thanks, man.
09:30Finally, we've been hearing a lot from the kind of fans in the audience here tonight of what they're hoping from this series.
09:35And most of them just say, I really hope this person doesn't die. I hope that person doesn't die.
09:39Can we expect a bloodbath? Are we going to be tears by New Year's Eve or what? What can you share?
09:46There will be tears. That I guarantee. That's all I can say.
09:52Linda Hamilton!
09:53Linda Hamilton, everybody!
09:55How can we even do an interview with Linda Hamilton talking?
09:58It feels frankly disrespectful. Sean, you're the busiest man in Hollywood at the moment. Do you have time to be here?
10:04I thought you were knee deep in the galaxy far away?
10:06No, I am indeed. I literally shot Starfighter all day, put on a suit, put some shit in my hair, and raced here to be with you.
10:17So, yeah, I mean, to be shooting Star Wars in the day and celebrating Stranger Things at night, it is beyond any version of a career that I ever could have dreamed of.
10:27How are things going over there at the moment?
10:31Well, I'm happy to say it's going really well. We're now over halfway through the shoot, and Ryan Gosling is every bit as dreamy as I expected, but also just a dream of a collaborator.
10:45And the rest of the cast is just dope as hell, and we feel that we're really sort of doing something in a tone that is so loving of this legacy, but also very much a new story, new timeline, new characters, new adventure.
11:03I can't wait for it, man. It feels like the right amount of time has passed now where that kind of enthusiasm, that interest in other stories in that world is starting to peak once again.
11:12But let's not detract away from why we're here, Stranger Things.
11:15Talk me through kind of the experience of this feud, because for a lot of these guys, a lot of these kids into adults, this has been their youth. This is growing up.
11:24But you've had all these huge projects on the side, outside of this world. Do you feel the same kind of the loss that these guys must be going through now when it comes to an end?
11:34I mean, look, there were none of us at that final table read who weren't tear-soaked. It has been a huge part of our lives. It's been 10 years. Now, for the kids, it's been the defining, formative influence of their still very new life. It's been half their lives. For myself, for the Duffers, you know, it's maybe not half our lives, but it is the defining chapter of our careers.
12:02You guys feel like proud parents, in a way, to see what kind of actors and people these guys have grown up.
12:06Yeah, and not just proud parents of these kids and these young actors, but proud parents of this show. Like, we took something that the world did not expect, did not know what to make of it. When I read the Duffers script, I didn't know that it would be a hit. I didn't sign up for any strategic reasons. I just needed to be a part of it, because I knew it was special, and I wanted to help get it into the world.
12:31And finally, it's been a bit of pandemonium here. There have been a lot of interviews with, you know, the people who've just come and want to see you guys and kind of celebrate the end of the series.
12:40And every time there's been an interview, all I've said is, I hope this person doesn't die. I hope this person doesn't die. How disappointed are we going to be in this season? Are we expecting a bloodbath?
12:49Brother, if I answered you, I am so going to give something away, so you're getting nothing from me on that one. But thanks for asking.
12:56I'm looking forward to it anyway, man. Take care yourself.
12:58Thanks chatting.
12:59Brett, scene-stealing son-of-a-gun here.
13:03Oh my God, you're too kind and two.
13:06How do you go two for two? You've absolutely defined the last ten years of quality broadcast.
13:12Yes, thank you so much. Thank you. I feel very lucky to have been in the two of the greatest shows ever made.
13:19Yeah, absolutely.
13:21Talk me through your journey this last few years, because you've been involved in a lot of great projects, one of those included, but you could have never imagined what transpired with this, how it grabbed people's imaginations, how it really took over the world.
13:36It feels like a horror version of Friends in a way, in a way that it kind of grits and touches everybody.
13:41Nobody's ever, I've never, but that's absolutely true, yeah.
13:43Yeah, it's an amazing thing to be a part of that is so massive.
13:47I don't know if I've consciously wrapped my head around it still.
13:50I think, I don't know if I ever will.
13:52It's just one of those things that's larger than me, larger than everybody involved, except maybe the Duffer brothers.
13:59And I'm just so grateful to them.
14:02I mean, this character came into season two.
14:04I was not supposed to be what he became, but I'm so grateful to them that they believed in me and felt, you know, liked what I was doing enough to keep me going.
14:16Do you think it's about to say your character might be the most fun to play?
14:20Because when you play larger than life characters, there must be a bit of a kind of a catharsis of like, oh, I'd love to just act like this.
14:26Yeah, I really felt like I was given the gift of this character because as they are so influenced by 80s filmmakers, I'm very influenced by the 80s comedic actors of that time.
14:38We were like either Saturday Night Live or Saturday Night Live adjacent, you know, talking like Bill Murray, John Candy, Eddie Murphy, Dan Aykroyd.
14:46Yeah, exactly. Yeah, not to mention Monty Python. So it was like this chance Gene Wilder, all the Mel Brooks actors.
14:54So it was it was a great way to meld those two influences because I'm so influenced by those films, too.
15:00And he was very much like a character that I wanted to play growing up, which was essentially the comedic relief in an action sci-fi movie.
15:10And in this pouring rain, I won't give you too long, but what's it been like to watch these guys grow up into the kind of the people and the adults and the actors that they become?
15:17Because you've been there at such a kind of pivotal moment in their young lives and careers.
15:21It's very surreal. I mean, you know, recently my wife and I were watching. We started watching the series from the beginning and it was surreal.
15:30It was tripped out, man. Like, wow, look how young they are. They grow and you don't notice it, you know, maybe in between seasons.
15:39But it's just wild how much they've changed. And I'm really just in awe of them of how they not only kept it together, which is hard to do in this business in general,
15:48let alone when you grow up in this business, and just cultivated their craft to just, you know, make sure that their quality remained the same throughout.
15:57So it was, yeah, I'm really, I'm so happy for all of them.
16:01Well, I can't wait to see this series, man. I'm sure it'll stick the landing. Looking forward to seeing what you guys do next.
16:06Thanks, man. I'm hoping like a Fleabag movie. A Fleabag movie might be something.
16:10That'd be cool. I'd love that. I'm down.
