00:00Me and my friends used to play a game of like how many people would recognize me at Westfield
00:03and overnight it went from like 10 to like 100 and I was like this is weird.
00:08You're here tonight to receive an outstanding contribution.
00:11Yes.
00:11It's 15 minutes since you are.
00:13How does that feel?
00:14It feels lovely to have a moment to slow down and celebrate.
00:18I don't think we do it often enough, especially us Brits.
00:20You know, we say sorry constantly to everything and everyone.
00:25And it's nice to have a second to go, amazing, okay.
00:28We've not finished and we've not, we're not, we've not made it.
00:32We never make it.
00:33We just keep evolving and growing.
00:34But I think it's beautiful.
00:35The last 18 months especially, putting out new music for the first time in so many years
00:39and everything that we've faced as a team and personally, professionally,
00:43it's really nice to like be noticed and respected, especially here in the UK.
00:48I think my last award was like 16 years back.
00:51So it'd be nice to like just have a second and be like, okay, I'm still in this.
00:54I'm still doing it.
00:56Do you remember the debut album coming out?
00:58Do it like a dude and prize tag going around the world?
01:01Yes.
01:02How can you sum up that first year?
01:04I never forget.
01:06The day it came out, I laid on my bed.
01:07I was watching everyone respond on Twitter, I think, and just reacting on like,
01:11and just going, I like this one, I like this one, I like that one.
01:13And then leaving my house, and me and my friends used to play a game of like how many people
01:17would recognize me at Westfield.
01:19And overnight it went from like 10 to like 100 and I was like, this is weird.
01:23And then I was like on a billboard and I was on a magazine and a newspaper and it was
01:27really
01:27overwhelming, honestly.
01:29It was actually insane.
01:31I know it really teaches you how to like do that flip, but over the years I've learned
01:36to like love the good bit of it and try and enjoy the stuff that isn't great and shift
01:42the light to something that needs it more than the gossip.
01:45Yeah, exactly.
01:46And I feel like we're not in such a gossipy place as we were then.
01:50No, I totally agree.
01:51I think that because things are almost so quick to be told and shared, I feel like the people
01:57that want to make sure the truth is shared are louder than ever before.
02:01And I love that.
02:02That's cool.
02:03And you referenced it there, and you had a difficult couple of years without problems.
02:08Yeah, yeah.
02:09And we're here tonight to apply music therapy.
02:11How important was music to you during that period?
02:13I mean, I was diagnosed with breast cancer two weeks before I put out a single called
02:16No Secrets.
02:18The irony was like, and then I put a song out called Live In My Best Life and I'd written
02:21them six years prior.
02:23So it felt like they'd been kept in my phone for that moment.
02:25And that's the beauty of music.
02:27It stands the test of time and it holds your hand whenever you need it.
02:30You know, like, I can't make you love me.
02:33That song has held me in so many different moments in my life, like grief and this, and you
02:37just discover it.
02:38And it's so beautiful that music just is in a capsule and you can just, it never ends.
02:43You know.
02:43Amen.
