00:00We'll see where it goes here tonight in the Association.
00:02The Cavaliers and the Heat will go at 7.30 p.m. Eastern at Miami.
00:06This line sits around 6 to 5.5, depending on where you're shopping at.
00:09Cavaliers and the Heat, Joe.
00:10What are you looking at for a spread line tonight in the Association?
00:14Well, Donnie, we talked about this game a couple of nights ago.
00:16The total the other night was 248, and they almost scored 300 points
00:21with an overtime period.
00:24Now you're looking at a day later now, we're 10 points less than that
00:29in the total here, Donnie, and what has changed?
00:31They had a night off.
00:33I don't think anything changes.
00:35The over for me with these two teams.
00:38What are we going to do with the Dallas Mavericks here?
00:40And the shame of the whole thing is that the Dallas Mavericks
00:42sort of got bailed out a little bit by getting Cooper flagged.
00:44We'll see how great he is in his career.
00:46Still rookie, learning his way, but the Dallas Mavericks are not performing well.
00:49But also, what were the expectations coming in anyway?
00:53You trade Luka Doncic, and the one thing you know is,
00:56first and foremost, you're the NBA.
00:57It's a business.
00:59Your town, your city love Luka Doncic.
01:02No matter if they won championships, made deep runs into the playoffs,
01:05it didn't matter.
01:06The American Airlines arena would be sold out with tons of Luka merchandise.
01:10The fan base would be happy.
01:11Always looking for that.
01:12Hey, can we pair somebody with Luka Doncic?
01:15Can we get a better two-guard, three-guard to go along with him here?
01:18Let's build for the future.
01:19But they love Luka.
01:20And overnight, Luka was traded.
01:22And the best part about this trade was,
01:24I remember when the story started to leak out after it was done,
01:26where the Lakers couldn't even believe what they were hearing,
01:29to the point where they told the Mavericks and Nico Harrison,
01:32don't you dare tell anybody about what we're talking about until this is absolutely done,
01:39signed, sealed, and delivered.
01:40And what happened?
01:41Luka Doncic was on his way out to LA, and Anthony Davis was coming back.
01:45We still, Joe, talk about this trade and can't believe how it actually went down.
01:50Well, you know, and I love it, too, yesterday, because the Mavs are, you know,
01:56all of a sudden you look, Donnie, and this is becoming an absolute dumpster fire here.
02:01Because the owner pens a letter to the Mavs fans
02:04and basically pins everything that has gone wrong on Nika, on the GM,
02:11which is hilarious to me, given the fact that this isn't just a GM issue.
02:16This was an ownership issue as well.
02:18Like, all of you guys signed off on it and gave him the okay to make that trade.
02:24And then everyone thought it was going to be fine when you got the ping pong ball
02:28and got Cooper flagged.
02:29But guess what?
02:30Yeah, you still got Anthony Davis, who can't play more than 12 games a season.
02:35So I'm sorry, man.
02:37I think this whole thing, congratulations, Dave, move on.
02:41But I do not trust ownership.
02:43I do not trust anything about this team.
02:46And good luck bringing the next guy in,
02:48because they are a dumpster fire at the very top levels of that team right now.
02:52Like, you make the trade for Davis.
02:54He's always injured.
02:55He's been injured.
02:56Kyrie went down, got injured last year.
02:57Like, the theory of, like, okay, Kyrie's going to come back.
02:59Anthony Davis is going to come back.
03:01And then Cooper flagged is going to be there for the playoff run.
03:03It does make some sense.
03:04But now you fire Nico at this point.
03:06And it's a new regime saying, okay, well, now we might trade Anthony Davis.
03:09And, like, it's almost like, what did you do the past year itself?
03:11So if we look at Nico Harris, some of the things he actually done, you know,
03:14traded Luka Doncic after the finals run, refused an offer to Jalen Brunson.
03:18I don't know how close that Brunson deal is actually going to be,
03:20because Brunson's dad was in New York.
03:22He was probably going there anyway.
03:23But nothing has worked out.
03:25But also, you can make bad trades.
03:27But as long as you keep your talented, homegrown superstar in the building
03:31that everybody loves, you will still have a job.
03:34Like, what made him think, like, you know what?
03:36I'm going to revitalize this franchise.
03:38The fans won't mind that they'll trade Luka, who went off the charts
03:41and going nuclear every night for L.A.
03:43And my fans are going to see that.
03:45And then also understand that I'm getting back players that I don't even know
03:48will be healthy enough to be on the court.
03:50Then when I go to basketball games and I'm in the building, all these fans do
03:55is cheer, fire Nico, first quarter, second quarter, third quarter, fourth quarter.
04:00And you know how you get around that, Joe?
04:01You win basketball games.
04:02They weren't winning basketball games.
04:04A double compounded error there for the Dallas Mavericks,
04:08and they finally had to move on.
04:11Listen, it was inevitable because, listen, Cooper Flagg right now
04:16is not going to be in the same breath as, you know, Luka Doncic right now.
04:21So every time Luka goes out there with a double, double, triple, double,
04:24drops 40 points, every time, especially with the Lakers now,
04:28the Mavs fans are going to get real uncomfortable and real mad.
04:32So this was inevitable.
04:34Anything short of a, my goodness, they've only lost three games.
04:38They're on pace to battle OKC.
04:40This was always going to happen.
04:42But again, if I'm a Mavs fan, look higher up because this didn't happen
04:48in a vacuum.
04:49Don't forget, right around the time they traded him,
04:52it was changing ownership, right?
04:54It was, everything was changing.
04:57He was due for a Supermax contract.
04:59The timing of it was very suspect.
05:02And I don't think Nico just decided, you know what, time for Luka to go here.
05:07Something else is going on in this organization right now.
05:10By the way, put up that Hater Report tweet if we can,
05:14because I just, like, I'm looking at it,
05:16and we don't have the whole picture up there.
05:17But one is Luka I can see.
05:19One is Jalen Brunson I can see.
05:21One is Chris Stapps Porzingis.
05:23But I got to be honest, who is the Sixers guy and the Clippers guy?
05:27Who are those two guys?
05:28Is that a joke, I guess?
05:31That might be.
05:32That's a good question.
05:34Who is the Clippers guy?
05:35I guess it's a joke.
05:36I don't know.
05:37Yeah, it might be.
05:38I guess everybody.
05:39I mean, it comes from the Hater Report.
05:41He's the plan for every bad move.
05:42Yeah.
05:42I love it.
05:44Every single thing that certainly comes down the pike it is.
05:46But Nico Harrison out of a job.
05:48And it would be the ultimate troll move.
05:50And the NADA probably would have to step in.
05:52Like, if Nico Harrison gets signed to the Los Angeles Lakers,
05:55like a front office executive,
05:56like one of those guys that's just an administrator at this point,
05:59or somebody who's going to be able to check in,
06:00that would be such major trolling.
06:03It'd be worth whatever you had to pay in fines,
06:04and or whatever you paid him.
06:07Yeah.
06:08I got news for you.
06:09I just hope he writes a book.
06:10I hope he puts it out and explains to us exactly the thought process
06:15and what was going on behind the scenes
06:17when all of a sudden you decided to trade the generational talent
06:21to, of all teams, the Los Angeles Lakers.
06:25Unbelievable here.
06:26It is unbelievable.
06:27But tonight on the NBA hard court, Joe,
06:29the Golden State Warriors got pasted last night from OKC.
06:32Their starters didn't play all that much.
06:33Why?
06:34Because they got blown out.
06:34They could sit out the fourth quarter.
06:36The Spurs are on tap.
06:37The Spurs are rested and ready.
06:40That line, Joe, opened up at five.
06:41Now it's down to four and a half with 78% of the public being spent,
06:46public money being spent, I should say,
06:47on those Spurs and tickets here tonight, Joe.
06:50Kind of an interesting one down there in San Antone tonight.
06:54Well, it's interesting, too,
06:55because Draymond's already starting here after getting blown out last night,
07:00talking about he's questioning the Warriors' desire to actually want to win,
07:04and, I mean, you got a bunch of mid-30-year-old guys playing out the string here
07:10on a Warriors team, and already Draymond and Steph Curry once again are questionable tonight.
07:15All right.
07:15Let's clear out here on College Football Playhouse, Joe.
07:18You know me, and for the longest time I've said, growing up as a kid,
07:23all-star games are important.
07:25We only get to watch certain players, certain teams, and certain individuals,
07:28not 24-7 social media every single highlight.
07:31The Major League Baseball All-Star Game, so cool.
07:34The NBA All-Star Game, so cool.
07:35The NHL All-Star Game, I loved it growing up as a kid.
07:39The Pro Bowl, we all tuned into it in Hawaii to end the NFL season.
07:44Now, every single one of those games is absolutely ridiculous outside of baseball,
07:49because at least it gives you the option to say,
07:52it looks like baseball out there.
07:53No other sport does it correctly anymore because we don't need it here.
07:57Now, the NBA, get your calculator out, because now we're going to say three teams,
08:02four teams, two teams, three teams.
08:04You're an All-Star.
08:05You're not an All-Star.
08:06East Coast team, West Coast team, and then we'll go overseas and get some players.
08:10Then we'll play like 16 games on a Sunday, and voila, we have a victor.
08:14Stop the madness.
08:16End the NBA.
08:17Just have a nice, fun weekend.
08:19Bring the DJs out.
08:21Have a dunk competition.
08:22Shoot some threes.
08:23Get the boys back in the building for a game on Monday night after All-Star weekend.
08:27The All-Star game is atrocious, and it must end, Joe.
08:32It must.
08:34It's they're making it way more complicated than it needs to be here, Donnie.
08:38And I'll tell you what this all stems from.
08:40It stems from what the NHL did with the Four Nations face-off last year instead of the All-Star game,
08:46where that was incredible, right?
08:48Yeah, you had North America.
08:50It was absolutely phenomenal.
08:52But you're not going to recreate that in the NBA, and that's exactly what they think they're doing here
08:57by making, what, a world All-Star team?
09:00And it doesn't work like that.
09:03I mean, kudos to the NHL for trying something different, and they nailed it.
09:08But the NBA, you're not going to have that same kind of feel here with the All-Star game
09:13by trying to make it, you know, Team USA versus the world.
09:17It's not going to work.
09:17You can't, and every year, too.
09:20Like, the NBA All-Star game rating dropped there when they tried a new format.
09:23Stop trying new formats.
09:24Do you know what the best format of all time was for the NBA All-Star game?
09:28East best players, West best players, and they somewhat care about the basketball game.
09:33We don't need to, you don't need to reinvent the wheel.
09:37Just say, guys, this is our league here.
09:39Show some respect.
09:41Play a pretty intense pickup game.
09:42It doesn't have to be game seven of the finals here.
09:45Have fun.
09:45That's what the people want to see.
09:47But make it be competitive.
09:48Is that too hard to ask for, for players to just play basketball?
09:54Yeah, or have the players put up their own money, Donnie.
09:58That's what I would do.
10:00Ridiculous, man.
10:00The NBA, oh, my goodness.
10:02Don't get me started.
10:03But we're going to get started with hour number two next.
10:05Bang, bang, bang, people.
10:14Bang on the drums.
10:15Joe went in the action-action and came away with a victory yesterday.
10:18My question to you, Joe, is where are we going and what winner are we picking out tonight?
10:23Let's go to the association here tonight, Donnie.
10:26Oh, okay.
10:26I am going to take a look at a team that is, well, they are rolling.
10:32And you've got to love it.
10:33I love the effort.
10:34And, of course, it is led by a former Oklahoma State standout, Cade Cunningham.
10:40I'm talking about the Detroit Pistons tonight at home taking on the Chicago Bulls, who, you
10:46may recall, started the season with a win at the United Center over this Detroit team after
10:53being down 23 points.
10:54They almost came back and won that game.
10:56They are on a seven-game winning streak right now.
10:59Wild comeback in overtime on Monday against the lowly Washington Wizards.
11:05Cade Cunningham had 46 in that game.
11:07But he's been downgraded to questionable right now for this game with a hip contusion.
11:13Keep an eye if he's available or not available.
11:16If he is cleared, this line is going to go up right now at two and a half, Donnie.
11:20They are at home.
11:22I like them.
11:23And the Chicago's on a three-game skid right now.
11:25And Josh Giddey, very questionable here tonight after that Monday loss against the Spurs.
11:33I'll take the home team.
11:34At a bucket, absolutely.
11:36I'll back Detroit here to keep it rolling.
11:38Giddy up.
11:39Pistons here.
11:40One of the best starts they've had in the franchise history over the past 20 years.
11:43We'll see if they continue that tonight.
11:44Just have to basically win.
11:45Win by three.
11:46And you cash in a ticket.
11:47For me, I'm going to go to a public fade.
11:49Last night, the Golden State Warriors were on the road against the reigning champions, OKC.
11:53They got hammered last night.
11:55So much to the point where they got to rest their starters late in that game.
11:58And also, Draymond Green going like, yeah, we got beat down.
12:01We got to answer some questions.
12:03Well, that answered questions need to be done tonight.
12:06Which means the Warriors are going to be on the road once again to take on the Spurs.
12:09The young athletic Spurs who are resting and ready against the aging veterans here.
12:13Understand this, Joe.
12:14The FanDuel Sportsbook opened up this line at 5.
12:16It's dropped to 4.5 at just about every outlet across the board with a total of 229.5.
12:22But the San Antonio Spurs getting over 75% of the ticket count coming in and the line dropping a bit.
12:28Golden State Warriors.
12:30Nobody wants them tonight.
12:31You know who does?
12:32It's your boy DRS getting the 4.5 points from the Warriors as your public fade of the night.
12:36And it looks like we're on the precipice of a 2-0 sweep tonight on a hump day Wednesday to get the people into Thursday, Joe.
12:43What do you think?
12:45I like the idea.
12:46That's how you do it in the NBA.
12:48Zig and zag, Daddy.
12:49Zig and zag.
